View Full Version : [May 4 2008] WM6.1 - 3.0 XDA Live Tilt A(lpha)1 Rom Release!

Here is the WM6.1 XDA Live Rom!

This Rom is intended for Tilt Owners who want a light version of the Tilt WM6.1 ROM. The default Keyboard will be CWSLayout (Tilt), you are free to change it.

The Base ROM is at&t 3.51.502.0(AKU 1.0.2) Windows Mobile 6.1 Rom.

The initial releases included the first at&t WM6.1 Radio (1.65.14.06).

Starting with Release 3.0 A2 I will not package the Radio so you will need to flash a WM6.1 compatable Radio Rom if you don't already have one installed.

Note that some WM6.1 Radios might not work with this Rom as AT&T has a habit of tying their Radios to their OS Roms since the release of their 1.60 WM6.0 Rom.

It is debranded cosmetically

I have purchased a second Tilt to dedicate to this project.

This release includes:

Registry Tweaks:
* Disable Security Warning for Unsigned Apps & Cabs
* SDK Certificates have been installed
* Enable Assisted GPS
* Disable Sent SMS Notification
* Long Press of RED End Key locks device

Fixes:
* Support UC (User Customization)
* Button 6 & Button 6 (Hold) defined
* Button 6 assigned to MS Voice Command
* Hold Button 6 assigned to Comm Manager

Removed:
* at&t MediaNet & WAP Data Connections
* MS Office Mobile
* WM6 Default Games
* at&t Push To Talk (v3.00 b408.812)
* HTC Quick GPS (v1.00 b220.821)

* ALL at&t bloatware

Registry Tweaks:
* TCP-IP Tweaks
* Enable GPS Data in Photo Data
* Disable In-Call Fast Sleep
* Hide SIM Contacts (yes it sticks!)
* Glyph (GDI/Font) Cache set to Large
* Enabled File System Cache
* Enabled File System Filter Cache
* Disable TouchFLO
* Support Simultaneous BBC & MediaNet Connections

Fixes:
* Camera.exe replaced with a “No Camera Message.exe”.
* ReplaceMe.ini file in the windows folder so you can easily make a cab file that causes soft reset by simply overwriting it.
* Adjust PagePool

Remove:
* Error Reporting
* Following Control Panel Applets (at least hide them)
----> Domain Enroll
----> Managed Programs
* MS Voice Command (v1.6.19209)

Reported Issues:
If you enable the clear type in landscape mode then when viewing Phone Menu in Landscape the text on the tabs does not show.

Cool.

Do you have the cab for the MS voice command you removed?

kyphur
27th April 2008, 04:34 AM
Voice Command is still in the Rom. I won't remove it until I can include a seperate Cab to put it back in (which will be once a carrier has released a Rom with VC in it)

Cool.

1.64.08.21 It does not work with this rom,I did not try it all the WM 6.1 radios with the rom,I prefer 1.64.08.21 radio for good signal reception and battery.Rom is nice and fast...

Thanks again

I like this ROM the way it is now. Nice, Clean & Fast. No offense to all the cooks. But, most seem to try and cook to much in. I just rather add items in with a cab.

As for the reg hacks. These can also be added with Advanced Config and KaiserTweak.

Great job!

Kyphur,

Just flashed and looking good so far. I did notice that the AT&T Connection settings were not there upon flash completion (and a Hard Reset after). Not a biggie, but thought you should know.

Thanks.

Kyphur, as you may remember, I used and liked your hermes ROMs. I did a flash of this to test and as previous member wrote, I expected the ATT settings to be there. I was also surprised that after flashing with nothing else added, the free program memory was only 56.21 MB. I expected 70+ in free memory.
Not complaining as so far all else is working.
Looking forward to many ROMs from you.
Thanks,

Thanks.

Just use a HTC Network Wizard to find your settings.

Since your an AT&T guy might I suggest you use the ATT Settings.cab below.

Man, while waiting for my battery to get to 50% so I can flash the latest HyperDragon, I stumble upon this.

One thing though, has anyone tried Sakajati's page pool changers?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2131301&postcount=3

They're based on Dutty's fix, might just make it extra easy to change, or play around with different PPs.

Thanks!

Thanks ATW, that is exactly what I did (thus my "no biggie" comment). I guess I should have mentioned that in my post ;)

I think I even found the cab in either your (or P1Tater's) downloads.

Thanks much.

That will get adjusted once I start messing with the PagePool. I've got the info and will do it this week (as soon as my Development Tilt arrives)

That's by design as not all Tilts are used with AT&T.

This looks like one worth giving a shot.

I have uploaded the File to my 4Shared (http://www.4shared.com/file/45690557/b9198149/RUU_Tilt_XDA-Live-20a_WWE_3515020_2581_4002H_1651406_UC.html)of anyone else wants to grab it. However, there are a lot of options for downloading it.

For Pagepool, if it is default, sakajati has created a tool to easily change the PP. But it will only work if the PP is the default size. It is Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2131301&highlight=kais_pp_18.exe#post2131301

ALSO!!! You've included this radio, have you found a way to allow it to be overwritten? Or am I mistaken & this is a different radio?

Yes I also got this error. When I used KaiserTweak or Schap's Advanced config to use cleartype in landscape the menu items would do the same thing. Had to re-flash the rom to correct the problem.

I also have another question. When I look at my available memory it says I have 85.57 available memory showing. Is this how it supposed to be? I remember the default PP would give you 101.XX mb of free memory. Anybody else seeing this as well.

this thing make me throw away any new Dutty's rom.....it's sucks for me and i don't like it at all :mad:

i don't like that my kaiser after cold boot has only 52 to 55mb only free available ram....

i'm trying now ""hyper draggon IIs"" rom and is a little (but very little)slower than xda's live 2.0 and after cold boot has 73mb free ram...

and no tweaks in cash or glyph to work faster but only in default values ...
the same exactly and in claudyfa's sv4 soft bank rom...(this rom is a bit slower from hyper dragon but still is stable and fast)

i'll give a shot again in xda's live 2.0 because is the faster rom i've ever try in my kaiser ;)

kyphur

See my chart a few posts up. Looks like we're short about 16mb of RAM which would be something allocated either my MS or HTC prior to us getting our hands on it.

So yes you're right I don't didn't look at this with any of the other WM6.1 Roms though.

Here are the Registry Tweaks that are coming in v2.0a1 as a Cab File.

Imagine this Rom, these Tweaks and a 18mb PagePool (Program Memory starts at 79.30mb)... That's what you'll have is a few days!

and no tweaks in cash or glyph to work faster but only in default values ...

i'll give a shot again in xda's live 2.0 because is the faster rom i've ever try in my kaiser ;)

i noticed that this rom was quite zippy graphics wise, and one thing that caught my attention was that s2u2 was running in directdraw mode. so i did some graphics benchmark......

http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/8910/spblz9.jpg

i can only find benchmarks to dutty's apr 1st rom here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2068100&postcount=1). Comparing the results, the DIB BitBit and GAPI BitBit are almost similar (40.5 and 625 fps), but the DDB BitBit is more than 3 times from dutty's rom. So i thought maybe because this is a light rom and that's why its doing so well, so i install all my usual apps and one hour later ran the benchmarks again, and this is what i got

http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/7682/spb2mw0.jpg

just about the same. Could this AT&T rom have the "fix" that HTC promised us?

Wow Excellent comparison.

I noticed this ROM to be very fast as well. Programs open and close so fast. The device is really responsive. Liking the lite version, but as you said even after loading all my apps I did not see a reduction in performance. Since I am stuck with this radio (1.65.17.10) at least for a while, it's not such a horrible thing that it works on this ROM. With this only being the alpha version, I can't wait to see the finished product. I wait for with much anticipation. Great job Kyphur.

kyphur i have an answer..

can i install any netcf 3.5 in this rom?

in your first xad live i had issues with this....and some apps doesn't work with no compact framework installed ...:confused:

kyphur
29th April 2008, 03:03 PM
I have .Net CF 3.5 installed, remember that some programs might need earlier versions of .Net. You cna have multiple versions installed.

Also, regarding the memory, with 18mb pp you start with just shy of 80mb program memory but only 50mb is free. Either MS or HTC has taken 16mb and allocated it for other uses (system level). That could be part of the speed increase over the other WM6.1 Base Roms.

I'm not really sure we need to mess with the pp on this one but I don't mind spending 6mb (like we realy need more than 50mb of program memory anyway) to get an additional boost.

Anyone using UC to move links in their Start Menu?

I can't seem to get it working right. Now I've never used UC before this Rom but so far I'm installing 40 Cabs and adding folders to my Start Menu.

If I add xml to move links it doesn't work.

I did notice that now when you manually move links on the start menu you get a system warning message (as if it's a system file).

Slight problem - reboots to a "you must sync" screen and non-responsive buttons (and non-responsive sync!).

BUT, it is being caused by the HTC home version I use, probably the wrong one (hermes 2.0a or something like that).

I need a HTC home version that I can easily customize the cities for. My last rom was Duttys 4/19, but the home there would not let me add any cities the way I used to.

Any recommendation as to the version of home I need?

I think the easiest way is to move the existing links in your start menu first with a provxml since 6 items is max. I think the ones there by default are

Calendar.lnk
Contacts.lnk
Messaging.lnk
Phone.lnk
Tasks.lnk
Winows Media.lnk

You would need something like:

<wap-provisioningdoc>
<characteristic type="FileOperation">
<characteristic type="%CE17%\Windows Media.lnk" translation="install">
<characteristic type="Delete">
<parm name="ForceDelete"/>
</characteristic>
</characteristic>

Freakin' Sweet! Just flashed this ROM with 18MB PP and my mem stats are:

Storage:
total 167.90
In Use 19.68
Free 148.22

Program:
Total 79.30
In Use 37.05
Free 42.25

And this is after I loaded approx. 9 apps. This ROM is BLAZING!!! xtremely fast screen/proggy load times. I haven't had the opportunity to do extensive testing but I will tonight and post tomorrow my own XP

UPDATE: I'm having problems with the camera not being found, and I can't find it in the /windows folder. I'm assuming its a radio problem so I will try that and go from there.

So if it gives you a System Warning, You'll need to Respond to that. So before the Move Try...

Over the past week I have flashed at least eight Roms. Almost all of them had issues of some sort. I was really looking for something lite so I could add only the proggies I want. This XDA Live Rom is awesome. Thank you very much Kyphur. Looking forward to future work from you.

Okay guys, I know I need to finish cleaning-up the registry files but can anyone see where I've left some useless files in the Rom?

I also will spend time hunting down removing the stupid control panel applets for "Managed Programs" & "Domain Enroll".

Finally I might go ahead and chanse down the dll I'll need to give everyone the "Band Selection" tab in Phone Settings.

So what is left?

spb Backup can't read the *.vol databases in the root of the device, weird...

I've noticed that Card Export II doesn't work with this build of WM6.1, was going to contact the guys at softick about that before wasting my own time to chase down their problem.

Oh yeah, anyone else notice that CorePlayer QTV support doesn't work with this Base? Between that & the fact that Direct Draw seems to actually work I'd say they did something to the Video System in this build.

As soon as there is a Shipped WM6.1 Device with Voice Command on it then VC will become a Cab (already got it ready to go thanks to adaDonny).

Is there any other software removed that you guys need as Cab files?

Almost feels like I wasted $$ getting a "Development Tilt", this is going to fast!

Yes. I see the same. However, 320x240 H.264 podcasts (NBC Nightly News for example) play OK with the latest Coreplayer using DirectDraw on this ROM. Average speed is benchmarking below 100% but dropped frames aren't really that noticeable. These vids won't play via DirectDraw on anything I've ever used prior to this ROM (video is a slow slideshow). Coreplayer with QTV support was the only solution (and a good one!)

On a second tilt with one of dutty's April builds, I could not get meaningful Coreplayer benchmarking scores using DirectDraw and the same H.264 content. No video output and the benchmark seems to be audio only.

Anyway, this appears to be a remarkable improvement for DirectDraw! Too bad the QTV support is missing. It would be nice to get that back as well!

IDK if anyone has had this pob, but I've been running this ROM for about 24 hrs now, and the Today screen has locked up on me 3 times. Is this a problem that is isolated to me or are there others that are having this problem as well.

I have done several hard resets with no improvement on this issue. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to why its locking up, and the only way to get out of it is to soft reset. Any help would be appreciated, this rom is fast and slick, and I would hate to have to give it up, but if I can't resolve the issue I just might have to.

I've been very happy with this ROM thus far.

I've used XDA live 1 since the day it was released and never looked back... Until now that is lol

I was working on cooking my own ROM, but that fell off once I found out you were making XDA live 2.0. I wanted to say THANKS!

Thus far, I've only seen issues again with the QTV video in CorePlayer, Using DirectDraw seems sub-par compaired to WM6.0 and the QTV Driver.
DirectDraw on this build has produced alot fo tearing, latency and over all choppyness lol.

I've found the QTV Display Driver still provides the best video in terms of latency, though I do get alot of Vertical Tearing. I'll have to play with some of the other settings and see if I can't resolve it inside CorePlayer.

Aside from that, the only other issue I'm having is with the Camera.
I've installed .net CF 3.5 as well as 5.0.4.2915 of the Camera app. I've created a link to the camera in my \Windows\Start Menu\Programs directory.
But when I hit tha camera button (linked to Camera in the Button menu) it fails saying the link does not exist, and when I manually load the camera app it fails saying the Cert is either not signed, or the app is missing part of the program itself.

I have yet to try version 4.x of the Camera app, that will be my next path... I just wanted to see if anyone else had this issue?

Thanks!

That did it, I was using Nadavi_HTC_Camera_5_0_4_2915_00, The camera now functions as it should!

My last issue aside from the CorePlayer video is World Card, when hitting the capture button to bring up the camera, it errors out saying the Handle is Invalid, I'm assuming the Camera App 4.x is only supported and not 5.x

Now that I have pretty much everything back to how I like it... time to start diggin in and seeing if I can help locate anything else that can be cleaned out =)

Kyphur,

Love the rom. Just wanted to let you know that while using the NIKI Radio 1.58.16.27 and this rom that if you changed the volume while in call all sound would stop coming from the phone. I switched back to the radio you packaged and it stopped happening. Wasn't the NIKI radio from a 6.1?

I think I have my today screen issue figured out. I used Kyphur's Page pool patcher and set my Page pool to 18MB, which left me with 42-ishMB free RAM, and when I would open a program use it and then close it it wasn't really closing, just minimizing. During a today screen freeze last night I was able to get to the memory screen, and see how much RAM I had free. Holy cow, .02MB free program memory with Goddess knows how many open programs. I soft resetted, installed the HTC task manager, soft resetted again and voila! I ran it to hell and back and it never missed a beat. So I'm thinking that the "X" button isn't exactly closing the programs, atleast it wasn't for me, but I got it fixed. Hope this helps anyone thats having a similar issue.

Even though I've changed the name slightly this is the next version of the rom.

There is no Radio in this Rom.

Here is what's new...

* The tweaks are built-in. (no need for the cab file)
* Simuletanous Connections (for BB Support)
* Band selection & disable data on suspend tabs in phone settings.
* Task Manager shortcut exists (but it's not in Settings).
* SIM Manager is gone.
* Several misc small files are removed.
* AT&T Start-up Animation is disabled.
* 18mb Page Pool.
* Rom Date is May 4 2008.

I renamed the Rom because my Page Pool Patcher can now modify the Rom Version that displays during the boot process but you can't change the first number (3) so I renumber and reordered the name so it can list there!

So I'm finding that this ROM like just about every other ROM that has Arcsoft MMS removed and then installed with a cab breaks the video MMS. You are unable to view videos sent to you inside of Arcsoft, and must save and play in WMP or CP. It seems to work just fine on any ROM that has it preinstalled. Something gets broken in the process of removal and cab installation. Any chance you can leave Arcsoft in the next version to see if it fixes this issue? It may even be more difficult and be related to something else that you have removed. The new PDAViet has it working right away for comparison.

I've had the same issues with CorePlayer 1.2.2 build 3852, I've dorked with all the settings, still find the the QTV driver is best, with DirectDraw in 2nd. But ya, vertical tearing like crazy in the fast paced scenes etc... I haven't dug into it much other than that.

I also think I'm having issues with several of the apps I've loaded on the top of this ROM, and lately have been having lock up issues.
Or horrible latency switching apps, with the touch screen, and even typing txt msgs (where it can take 3 minutes to type out one sentence)

Please be more specific than "Several Apps".

What apps have you installed?

Which one are giving you problems?

Do you still experience the latency issues if you Hard Reset and don't install anything? Try texting before you install your apps.

Also, note that there will be some software that doesn't play nice with WM6.1. I know that CardExportII has issues and CorePlayer while it works seems to behave differently in WM6.1.

Please don't clutter the thread with public responses to this...

My grandfather passed away earlier today. This will affect release dates but I'll make the impact minimal.

I have a minor patch version, 3.0 A(lpha)2, just about ready to go and hope to put it in your hands no later than Thursday.

After that I expect it will be at least a week before any futher updates can be ready. If there are enough issues reported I will try to have fixes ready no later than May 18th.

My consolation for your grandfather

Unfortunately, XDA 3.0 is one of the ROMS which does not accept arabization software.

Unfortunately, XDA 3.0 is one of the ROMS which does not accept arabization software.

Can you give me a list of Roms that will work with Arabization software, links to the software that won't install and any Errors/messages you get when trying to install them?

Can't promise anything for sure but I will look into it.

Yes,

I'm awaiting feedback from users regarding anything I might have missed.

The Rom is operational, zippy & smells good too but I don't use everything out there so I need to know if other users experience issues so I can chase them down and make corrections.
Yes, the ROM is very zippy and I'd like to stick with it for a while, but I'm having trouble with HTC Audio Manager. When I try to start it, I get the "The file 'AudioManager' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of it's components cannot be found." message.

Any ideas why this is happening?

Works for me, too. Radio 1.64.08.21

FWIW, 1.64.08.21 did not work for me with this ROM. I was able to make 1, and only 1 successful call. After that, I could see that I connected, but no sound at all.

The 1.65.14.06 radio works fine.

So far: nice, fast and stable Kyphur!

So, we're getting somewhere becasue this version of Audio Manager works just fine. Unfortunately, it's an older version that doesn't support track numbering in Albums. Thus, this is one of the old versions that lists Album songs in alphabetical order only.

Hmmm.... does this indicate something specific in the newer versions of Audio Manager that conflicts with this ROM?

Pull the exe out of the newer cab file and just copy it over the older exe, see if that give you the version you want.

What are you talking about, are you trying to flash to this ROM or what???? If you are, you better do some reading before trying to flash to ANY new ROM, otherwise your on a non-stop trip to "Brick your Phone Town" and when you get there everyone points and laughs uncontrollably at you. My suggestion would be to stop whatever you are doing RIGHT NOW and click on the link in my signature that says "Flashing Virgins click this link" and READ it first, and follow every step to the "T".

Tried that, but it didn't work. I tried the opposite of that, using the older .exe with the newer installed cab and it works, but it's got the same issue of only listing the songs in alphabetical order.

It is wierd though that an old exe works fine (1.02 - Build 409.721) but the newer versions don't.

Sorry, I don't check in often here lol.

Here is my App List

Arcsoft MMS 5.0.31.7
HTC Camera 5.04 Build 29195
ATT Tilt Keyboard Fix
ATT MMS MEdianet Cab
CorePlayer 1.2.2
.NET CF 3.5
Kaiser HTC Home 2.0.814.722
MS Live Search (Sorry don't recall build)
MobiTV
MS Office Mobile 07 + One Note
SPB Pocket Plus 3.0
OZ Instant Messenger (from ATT cabs)
HTC Quick GPS 1.00.905.716
WM6 RDP
SpriteBackup 5.1
TomTom Navigator 6.03.832
"Vista" Style Wait Cursor Cab
XDA 2.0 Reg Tweaks
Opera 8.6

Are all applications I've loaded.

Typically it's txting (as of recent) I notice the most problems... (most likely cause it's what I use most) But yeah txting is pretty bad.

the brief 5 minutes I had the vanilla ROM installed was great. I will flash the 3.0 Alpha and toy with it before I lay my apps back down, and hopefully get a chance to pay closer attention to what apps I have issues with for you.

The "wierd" bluetooth icon is because you have your phone as visible. I assume this was done to let you know that you checked that little box and now I can see what you have on your phone! The other two are easy, but if you want I can tell you those also.

This is a known issue with the at&t 3.51 Base ROM. It has been fixed in the 3.53 ROM but it looks like the fix introduced some strange backlight behavior.

I'll wait to see if they've corrected it properly in the next at&t ROM.

Okay, so the first step is admitting you have a problem....

Hi, my name is MustBNuts and I'm addicted to ROM flashing! :D

Love this ROM! Best one I've come across, has everything I want/need, nothing I need to uninstall....THANKS!

Now for a couple of questions: 1. do I need to apply the 2.0 registry tweaks on the A2? and 2. (more comment than question) I had the last version and found I had the same problem in landscape - couldn't see what I typed when clear type was enabled - and going back and changing it didn't help... this is mute as I've just flashed the latest.

Thanks for all your work

Answer 1, No.. The tweaks are built-in to all v3 Roms.

Answer 2, there were a couple of reports of that, use kaisertweak and disable cleartype in landscape. See if that helps,

For some reason with Kaiser Roms it seems you have to cook it as either show or hide and are unable to change it later. I cooked my preference which is hide.

Something I'd suggest you try is to extract the backlight.dll from the AT&T 3.53 Rom (or on of the HTC Roms that it works properly) and see if it fixes the issue for you.

Any plans to update this to the latest ATT build, or take it out of Alpha stage any time soon? Just curious, as I keep coming back to the XDA roms for their simplicity and stability after trying endless others along the way.

I don't like the 3.53 AT&T build, they fixed the backlight on the hardware buttons but I believe it introduced other backlight anomolies.

I'm considering experimenting with dlls from the official HTC Released WM 6.1 Roms to see if I can fix the buttons backlight without breaking other backlight. Aside from that the only other change I see is removing Voice Command from the Rom as it is avaliable on-line and many prefer one of the Cyberon solutions while some still don't use any Voice Dialer.

I'm also kind of waiting to see if there is another AT&T Release that addresses the backlight issue they introduced in 3.53.

Then again I've also played with rebuilding XDA-live using the Asian WWE 3.29 HTC Rom as a base!

I've been trying to look into the idea of the backlight.dll, but unfortunately everybody i've asked has a custom ROM so there goes that =O. As soon as i find it, i'll report back here if it works or not.

Download the Rom you want to get the dll from, use the KaiserKitchen to extract the Rom, then copy the file.....

How to traduct this rom in french??

What you're looking for is localization of the Rom to French.

Try searching the forum for "How To localize Rom" or "Changing Rom Language". I know there is info around on how to do it but I've never done it myself.

You will have to learn to do a bit of Rom Cooking as you will have to get all of the language files for French WM 6.1 from a donor Rom.

I don't think there is a localization cab file method.

So, it's safe to say that a cook's work is never done. :D Good to know you're still experimenting - I trust the recipe you finally release as "final" will be as good as those you've put out before. Thanks for the update.

Hey Kyph, just flashed the new Live 3.0 with 24 MB PagePool using your pagepool patcher and so far... it's flying. I just flashed it and haven't gone into adding apps or playing with it yet but just from the outset this ROM is cooking. I will post my personal XP when I get the chance to sit down and take the time to play with it.

Update: Just went into the /windows/ dir using file explorer on my phone and no sooner than I clicked on the windows file than the windows dir was up. with most other ROMS (even Live 2.0) it was a waiting game (5-10 sec) to get the windows dir to display in file explorer. I'm sold on Live 3.0, hope the final version is atleast as good as the A(lpha)1 release

Curious if this is subject to the ROM or a hardware defect. I've read a lot of other users having the same problem but mine is a little different. When I turn on Wifi, my bluetooth headset icon disappears on the top and disconnects automatically. I've heard some say that the bluetooth sound is horrible, however that is not the case with me, i lose all sound (via bt). Anybody else have this problem?

Also, is there an ETA when 3.0 will be official or out of Alpha?

Been using this ROM for a couple of months now, and I wanted to send a picture to someone via MMS. They received it, and they said they sent one back. I never received it. Any idea on why this would happen? I've received pictures by MMS on Alex's clean ROMs and XDA-Live 1.0 before, so I'm assuming it's ROM related (either Windows Mobile 6.1 or something else).

I'm using ArcSoft MMS Composer 5.0.31.16 and using the settings from here.

Also, any news on a ROM update?
