SPB Mobile Shell 2.1 Theme / Skin Collections Thread

Will you please help me. I need your photoshop skills. It seems that Beyond Invisible has the night weather icons included with all the day icons.
I need them seperated from the day ones so that my night theme can be complete. Preferably into there own weather big.dat file.
I know that it sounds like a simple task, but I don't have photoshop.

The problem that I have is getting night icons onto the main weather page.
If you have a solution that doesn't require photoshop, please share. TIA

But the thing is that you CAN'T just create a night weather file and replace the main weather. The only file that shows both days and nights weather is qa_weather_today.dat. Weather_big, weather_main, Weather_wall, ect.... all just shows day time weather.

In your weather.xml file, just follow BeyondInvisible's V.1.4.1 layouts and use his weather file. Use each ID 30, with 31, 32, and 33 for different layouts (4 layouts total).

I know you'll lose the main weather page. But you really do not need the main weather page. You still have big icons on detail weather page. There's no way to have night icons in the main weather page.

4 buttons
Home - Weather - Launcher - Contacts
pressing home i'd like digital clock (analog you can remove), gestR Calendar (no button for calendar ok?)
pressing Weather, ok weather
pressing launcher, i'd like first Programs (than gestR MRU)
pressing Contact, i'd like first VIP, than gestR Personal, gestR, Business
so with finger (right to left) or with right softkey: digital clock, --> calendar, weather, Programs, MRU, Contact VIP, Personal, Business.....digital clock...

left softkey start from digital clock contact business, personal, vip, mru, Program, weather, calendar, ...digital clock....

GestR and Right the same action obviously
GestL and Left too.

and if possible little preview of volume (profiles) and weather in "now page"
something like the attachments always in orange styles and with you icons.
if you have a better layout it's ok, change it, even with a better finger fiendly use/layout,
but if you can...i want have these informations in "now page"

Unless you are experiencing some bug that has been fixed by the new releases, then the only reason I can see to upgrade would be if you want the option to display "All Day" events with your appointments, such as birthdays, holidays, etc.

That's because Diamond V.1 was not written for SPB v.2.1.2, which I suppose you're using right now, aren't you? ;)

And you forgot to adjust the icons to the same horizontal possition. (First icon is higher)

If you want the highlight to be the same size as the icon, I think you will need to re-do your icons. There is a transparent border around your icons that needs to be removed. The highlight should be the same size as the icon, INCLUDING the transparent part.

Just making sure that you are aware, that if I place the big profile icon to be the big one on the now screen that I will need to remove it from the top of all the other pages. You will have profile access from one page instead of all. You do know that it's already on the top?

Do you use Photoshop? If so, open your MenuButton.bmp file, you'll see the "black" area around the icons. Remove (crop) them. Note the image size. Do the same for your MenuButton_m.bmp file (not removing the "black" area, but to crop it to the same image size.

In your Launcher.xml, adjust these value:

to have it the same Width and height with your menu edited icons.

also if you use text under the icons, you'll see the highlight part. Or you can just adjust them at:

To have the SAME width and height.

I had some time to get it done. I think that you will like the layout better. Touch time to get to calendar page.
I didn't remove the profile icon from all the pages. This looks really sweet in portrait and landscape. I did take away that useless second time page.

It's your second MRU, it's meant to be a pseudo "Start" button, which points you to your favorite programs.

But if you don't like it, edit your Lockscreen.xml file inside your Layouts.dat file, and remove the reference to the "r1"

Thank you. I have a suggestion for you. Try using the Windows Feild Theme without having me rearrange the Now screen layout.
Aside from the top bar, it is already set-up the way you want.
I would like to just sub the calendar page with MRU, add All Weather icons, add mru on the now screen (you will need to configure it with the start button, I can't do that at my end).
I'd like to also sugesst doing just some of the pages with weather, since it already has a nice background.

Gimme a half an hour and I'll work up my suggestion for you. I think it will meet your needs and preferences.

Along with what I previously suggested above, I also changed the mru masks and digital clock to translucent.
Switched to status icons that barely show unless there is some info to show. Placed them above the clock like you wanted.
Added weather icon with temp. Press it and it takes you to detail weather.
I placed mru #1 top left, for you to use for the start button.
I put a darker calendar background and made it bigger.

Replaced Calendar page with MRU page. Touch time to get to calendar.
I have the Natural weather only on the Calendar screen. Start button and natural weather do not look good together.
I replaced the small clock with the temperature. If you press it, it takes you to detail weather.
I moved the clock bottom right. When you press on it it takes you to alarm and time settings.
I moved the day/date from now screen to calendar.
Added status icons to calender.

I'm glad you are enjoying the skin. I am currently busy with my WM7 theme right now, but I have been getting quite a few comments/requests about the Windows Field skin. I am probably going to revisit and expand upon this skin when I am done with my current project if time permits and people show interest.

So far, I am still using Spb Mobile Shell 1
I have not upgraded to 2.12 beause I know that there had been issues with certain themes and this version 2.11. Do all posted themes work with 2.12? If not, which ones do not work? I think that I read that any of the Diamond themes prior to 2.1 do not work, correct?

Also, what exactly is the advantages of Mobile Shell 2.12; are there worthwhile improvements?

I have had a lot of requests like this and I appreciate the support. I am almost done with the last layout on WM7 and will be revisiting Windows Field. I will take your comments and those of others and a few ideas of my own and see we'll what happens. I have put a lot of work into WM7, but I still keep going back to Windows Field from time to time. I think you and others may like what is to come.

I think you will find that most, if not all the themes are working with MSv2.1.2, however, you may find little details that have changed in the skins since they were first released, such as highlights when pressing. If you are still unsure about trying v2.1.2, you can download MSv2.1.0 from the link below.

I don't have photoshop to make a 4 tab layout. I feel that it turned out great with 5 tabs. I'm thinking that you'll like the way it turned out.

mkates addressed part of this earlier, but I incorrectly posted that I was using version 1 , but in fact, I am still using version 2.1.0 of Mobile Shell.

I decided on this rainy east coast day, to update to version 2.12, but on installing that version, I never got the Windows Mobile software question of "Do you want to keep your settings", so after updating, I had the generic theme with 6 large folder icons and two lines of MRUs on one page. Known of the 6 folders was 'Settings', so I am kind of stuck. I tried via File Explorer overwriting the Mobile Shell File with a 9 Icon theme, but it didn't work and I am not sure whether I need to do Registry adjustments or what.

Is there posted a cookbook recipe version of making this update work?

You can get to settings from outside of mobile Shell. Go to Start/Settings and click the System tab and go to SPB Mobile Shell.

Not sure why you wouldn't be able to install a custom skin unless you have the wrong screen size for the skin. If you have had a custom skin working before and now it won't work, I would try uninstalling Mobile Shell, browse to the Program Files/SPB Mobile Shell folder, and if it's still there, delete it. Soft reset, then reinstall Mobile Shell, install custom skin, and soft reset.

You do not have to install 9th icon to use a custom skin. I usually install 9th icon after installinh my custom skin.

Thank you for your appreciation. I kinda knew that you would like it. I'm pretty stoked at how it turned out. You made some good choices. It made it enjoyable to do.

Days will drop of as appointments come up, if you select auto under configure when selecting proffessional.

I will add the natural weather onto all the main pages except speed dial.
If you want me to add it to speed dial, contacts, and launcher sub pages I can.
I just think it might be overkill. Depending on your phone you might experience a very slight lag when you go to load a page for the first time, as it loads the graphic. After that it's as fast as usual.

Days will drop of as appointments come up, if you select auto under configure when selecting proffessional.

I will add the natural weather onto all the main pages except speed dial.
If you want me to add it to speed dial, contacts, and launcher sub pages I can.
I just think it might be overkill. Depending on your phone you might experience a very slight lag when you go to load a page for the first time, as it loads the graphic. After that it's as fast as usual.

Here you go, centered the status. I added weather to all pages except weather. Looked odd just having some of them done due to background.
Maybe if it where a solid background, some might look okay.

If I leave the weather forecast icon you would have 2 suns showing on page.

Have you tried it yet? Here are the revisions. The qa_layout.dat will put weather on all pages. I was also able to make the calendar a tad bigger.

The qp_menubuttons .dat will turn your profile icon from the one that is green, red, or blue, depending on mode, to the plain white one.
Just remove the .zip from the files.

You were right, it is slow to change screens now to load the graphics.

Only problem is the fonts. I can't see the fonts on my main screen due to the white sand. Like my font for my appt's is white, and I can't see the fonts for my upcoming appointments.

Everything else looks great though!

Along with what I previously suggested above, I also changed the mru masks and digital clock to translucent.
Switched to status icons that barely show unless there is some info to show. Placed them above the clock like you wanted.
Added weather icon with temp. Press it and it takes you to detail weather.
I placed mru #1 top left, for you to use for the start button.
I put a darker calendar background and made it bigger.

Replaced Calendar page with MRU page. Touch time to get to calendar.
I have the Natural weather only on the Calendar screen. Start button and natural weather do not look good together.
I replaced the small clock with the temperature. If you press it, it takes you to detail weather.
I moved the clock bottom right. When you press on it it takes you to alarm and time settings.
I moved the day/date from now screen to calendar.
Added status icons to calender.

I don't have photoshop to make a 4 tab layout. I feel that it turned out great with 5 tabs. I'm thinking that you'll like the way it turned out.

Mobile Shell just reads your setting and display information in more convenient ways. SO it is easy - make a change on your regional setting (short date, long date, currency etc.). Good luck.

Hi all

I had few comments / requests regarding my white diamond theme icons
many wanted the icons to "float" on the white screen..and to NOT have the black siamond square around it

so here what i did:

- I modified the GSmart (better looking transparent) icons..now you get the floating look & also you can see through them...

- If you change the shell theme colors, the BG squares colors will change and this is seen THROUGH the icons

- I also changed the MRU icon backgroiund to match and be transparant as well


- I also changed the STATUS icons, now they are hidden(shadows) and when a new call or message arrive they will turn dark ... more eye catching to me :)

finally, and in a seperate zip file,
for the ones who are using my latest FULL screen white diamond, because the new icons are little different i had to adjust the position of the icons in landscape to line up correctly.... so i attached a new layout.dat file (again this one is ONLY FOR FULL SCRRN WHITE DIAMIND)

Please provide the tab icons that you will be using. I can change the sequence to how you want. I do not want to provide it until I know that you have matching tabs.

Yea, that's the problems with weather pages.

For the fonts here are your options.
1. Don't have weather background on now screen.
2. Don't have appointments on now screen.
3. Move somewhere where you will never see that clear sky forecast.
4. Change the font color, which will affect more than just appointments.

#3 is a joke and here is a layout for black fonts on the now screen.
Choose your option and I will help you.

What does everyone use for their weather?

I live in the USA, in KY, and have horrible weather reports. I use SPB Weather, and get my reports from weather.com(supposedly, I had a lot of trouble getting it to work in the first place)

Like I have 76/65 as high and low on my phone, but 76/55 as high and low on weather.com on my computer.

It has also been wrong often on rain for the day, but I don't know if it conflicts weather.com or not. Is there anything more accurate that anyone knows of? How about something with % chances of rain? Or current temperature outside?

Just wondering if anyone else used anything else.

It's very simple to install, just extract the files in your Storage Card root (keep the folder names). Download and extract the language patch inside the \Storage Card\SpbMobileShellSkins. Get the english patch and extract it overwriting files, for english translations.
Be carefully if you have changed the options.ini, maybe you need to check it again.

For english language Spb MS don't need translations, so SpbMobileShell.txt is not necessary. To avoid problems with the patch i've inserted into the (patch) zip the file SpbMobileShell.txt that translates each item with itself. :D
So if you have this file inside the \Program Files\Sbp Mobile Shell folder phrases are also translated in english.

NOTE: every change to the Spb Mobile Shell folder need the application restart.... for example changing skin

That is a very common problem with Mobile Shell 2.0, I have not seen it with v2.1, so if you really do have v2.1 then I don't know.

Unforetunately, MobileShell doesn't really work like that. To change elements of the layout like that you need to edit the layout file, as well as edit the particular files of any pages you want to change as well.

Not copying certain files to the Mobile Shell directory will leave the them with the same tabs and buttons showing, just some of them won't work.

I can't really offer any more advice than that sorry, my xml skills are terrible :P

In most cases, the skin creators release a few different flavours of their skin (MRU/3 or 1 contact page/etc) but not always. Best to ask them, or at least specify which skin you're talking about, and what you are looking to change.

I don't think this is a problem of Spb MS, try to check your display configuration into the Windows Settings.

- choose beteen analog & digital clocks through spb shell setting - this is the first release of transparant digital clock with black digits requested by many users

I am, unfortunately, having a lot of trouble with the theme you gave me.

A lot of times it won't come up(even with SPB Watcher the home screen just stays up instead of the shell coming up), and often it becomes almost unresponsive when it does come up(like I can't click on the icons, or the volume, etc).

I have the Kaiser, and have SPB 2.1, not 2.1.2.

Is there anything I can do?

These obviously weren't happening before-hand on other themes, just this one :(

yes, it's true. These name where too long; you can set the correct name modifing the Options.mscr script if you prefer the original names.

I just downloaded the nightsky one and it looks great :D But, the calm land theme said to be specially made for vga...im wanting it for qvga. All you have to do is make backup copy of your original spb mobile shell folder, copy and replace exisitng files with the new ones from the zip file, soft reset and your done. This is of course assuming your have spb mobile shell and qvga screen, I don't know what a p3300 is.

On my phone, my carrier's name (Verizon Wireless) bleeds over the time on the top bar. I've tried re-naming the carrier with reg edits, personalizer, etc. and they all have problems. I don't need the clock on each page, and I would like to get rid of it. I've tried finding it in the various .xml files, but can't get it to disappear. Is there something I can do or would you have to make a change in the skin? Thank you for your skin and your support!

Nice work but unfortunately there isn't a program or command line (without needing the extra .net 3.5 program) that works to toggle Bluetooth/wifi toggle on my old wm5 (htc wizard). I've seen this bluetooth/wifi toggle before in some a russian forum and didn't work for me before cause it points to files that aren't there. The only program that seems to do the job is the SPB Phone suite but you simply can't map a (phone suite) command line to the BT/WIFI from inside SPB Mobile Shell. I hope a future SPBMS version will enable wifi/bluetooth toggle like SPB phone suite does within it's own interface.

This wasn't working on my Kaiser, but I added the following line to Spb and got it to go. I don't know if it will work for you, but it might be worth a shot!

In my registry editor (Total Command) it is called creating a directory named "cplmain_26" then "add value" named "Text" choose type "String" then enter the contents for the new String value, which would be "Wireless Manager"

Make sure you put it here:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Spb Software House 2\Spb Mobile Shell\Menu\Root\Settings\2\cplmain_26

I'm not too sure what Manilla Touch Flo 2d looks like, but Phonatic came up with a layout (using things from Gazazza and LdoStang) that incorperates both digital and analog clock, plus 5 MRU's and calendar options. Attached are the original screenchots and what I have currently (thanks greatbal).

i am new here and new in this theme.
I have one question. I am looking for a great skin for my HTC Touch Diamond with SPB Mobile Shell 2.1.2!
I new that this must have a resolution of 640x480, but i cant see at the single skins which resolution they have.

Can anybody tell me at which note i can recognize it?
Or can anybody tell me which skin looks great! I still use greatball´s Diamond skin and its really good but i am looking for a skin whith more color and 3 Contact tabs.

I still read how i can change the language but german would be great.

in the GSmart Theme:

this seems to be a bug specific to when this theme is applied. in other words, mobile shell 2.1 default does not exibit this

when setting button assignments, the press (for button 5) is no longer any good. seems to be overridden by the assignment for press & hold on button 5. also, the selections for the backlight are not accurate. selecting 1 bar gets you 2, selecting none gets you 1.

other than that, this theme is AMAZING!

Ok i can search for a skin with VGA resolution, but i not really found that there was written VGA Resolution. But Ok i will search more.

Now another question. I read some entries before that someone wants to have the clock out of another skin to pimp up his own skin.
Can i use parts of a skin in another skin without getting bugs?

How can i change the Background in a skin? there is a file called "...bckg.dat" i think this was the name but how can i change the background for SPB Mobile Shell in this file!

The only way to make this possible is by using this weather icon as one of the default menu buttons. (just like Greatbal did in his latest diamond theme (the version with the 2 soft buttons).

But when you do this you have to create a complete new set of icons (so say goodbay to your umbrella icon) that will fit the icons that are already in the menu, so this menu button icon will change when the weather does.

So if can fix all this you will see the complete forecast straight away by clicking your newly created icon and you won't see 1 big weather button where you still have to click on but you'll see your city and forecast straigt.

I like how it looks but I prefer the functionalityof MS2.1, so I made my own MS2.1 Theme based on it's graphics.

This is my first attempt at this MS2.1 skinning thing. Thanks to all developers like Kulet, azzambm and Dredd, from whose works I learned a lot.

This is still under development, ONLY Portrait support. Landscape support will follow soon.

I'm posting this for feedbacks on bugs or suggestions for adjustments/modification.

Features:

1) It doesn't matter if your using a Classic or Professional Now Screen. Same layout designs for both.
2) To change from Analog to Digital Now Screen, just swipe the screen Left to Right or vise-versa, much like the GSmart Today Theme. No need to go to SPB MS Settings.
3) Contains 5 Tabs: Now Screen, Calendar, Launcher, MRU, and SpeedDial.
4) Support for Voice Mail (untested as i don't have a Voicemail Acct), and Connection Icon.

I have spb shell, downloaded straight from spb website. I tried to install the diamond theme but it wouldn't do anything. It would look exactly the same as it did before. The version on the website says 2.0 and everything I've found says the same thing. Is this the problem? I really want this, I've seen it on a couple of 800w's and it looks sweet. Any help? It is located in your qp_menu_btn.dat file.

You got it when you switched menu buttons Switch back all is good.
Or edit the one you want to use with the 2 files that that have the icon you want.

That did it! It looks like Mikibest's latest buttons don't have a profile image in them. Oh well........

With what little time that I've had to play with SPB I've spent playing around with that theme and incorporating Beyond Invisible's weather icons.
There's a ton of options. I'll upload one for you.

Here's Layout B. Now, Calendar, Launcher, MRU, 1 Contact with the theme color changing background.
I added BeyondInvisibles BlissAlive weather changing background/wallpaper onto the now screen only.
And his big weather icons on the detail weather page. I also used his small samurai icons.
I played around with the landscape for both of the pages that have weather.

This is Greatbal's and Beyond invisibles work. I just incorporated them and tweaked it a bit.

All the icon images for the Program Launcher page are in the same .bmp image file so if you have one, you should have all. That is why I posted the .cab file. I know it works for my QVGA device. It will make the necessary registry entries to display the 9th icon. I have never tried it on other resolutions. What screen resolution are you using?

The .cab file I posted does not go in the SPB Mobile Shell folder. Just install on your storage card or your documents folder on your phone and then click on it to run the installation.

That's actually very easy to do. It even looks like they left room for another row. You can post the qa_layouts.dat and maybe someone here will have time. If you post and no one gets to it by next Thursday , I will make time for it then.

Your theme looks awsome with MikiBest's Faceted background (I love how the 'peak' starts in the corner and spreads out, you would think that this layout was designed around it) but the launcher page is still a solid color (whatever the theme or tsk color is). If your done with this theme then don't even think about doing it just for me, but If you ever do updates keep this in mind. Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's Layout B. Now, Calendar, Launcher, MRU, 1 Contact with the theme color changing background.
I added BeyondInvisibles BlissAlive weather changing background/wallpaper onto the now screen only.
And his big weather icons on the detail weather page. I also used his small samurai icons.
I played around with the landscape for both of the pages that have weather.

This is Greatbal's and Beyond invisibles work. I just incorporated them and tweaked it a bit.

You can see some of the weather options for Omnia that I posted on his Omnia thread on pages 23 and 29.

If you upload for the weather mod I will fix it then. Has it always been that way? Hmm I didn't know that. Geez, so many themes, it's starting get confusing.

What I think we need is a new structure that separates the resolution (QVGA, VGA etc) so that you don't have to wade through masses of posts of QVGA screens hunting for VGA....at the moment they are all in the same thread and mixed up

You could read the specifications in the manual or Google the phone name and look for specifications or go to the Samsung website and look for the specifications or Go to your carriers website and look for the specifications. If none of those work out for you, let me know and I'll post more ways to find the specifications of your phone.

Not at all. We LOVE stupid people. They make us feel smarter....Just kidding around.

To install the Diamond skin on your QVGA phone, first install SPB Mobile Shell, then go to the Diamond skin download post and look for the installation notes.

To sum it up, you install the .dat files that come with the skin into Program Files/SPB Mobile Shell and click "Yes" to overwrite. Soft reset your phone, then start Mobile Shell.

Okay im quite new to windos mobile and im probaly posting this on the wrong thread now, but is there mobile shell themes thats support vga resolutions? Oh while im at is dose these themes only support 2.1 verion only or 2.1.2 aswell?
