Oh, I checked these exe too and can not find them in /windows.
Maybe they are somewhere else on Windows Mobile 6.0 Pro.

Since everyone is posting in this 2.1 page, i'll post my most recent work aswell since it's 2.1 compatible since a long time and I saw my linked work here already.

- SPB Mobile Shell 2.1 compatible!
- Vista Home Premium frame
- Vista Home Premium startbar
- Vista Menu Icons (launcher itself still needs a makeover)
- Includes newer vista connection icon.
- Speeddial Pictures fit within in the Aero frame.
- Newer MRU button background.
- Newer Weather icons.
- Moved the "time" in laucher/mru/speeddial to simply have more space for the connection icons in case of a longer operator name. (the program "Personalizer" to change the operator name doesn't seem to work always).
- Brightened the start button compared to the older version..
- Fixed the overlapping (icon) problem for the aero frame.
- Fixed the overlapping weather problem.
- Fixed the overlapping contact problem.

todo list: Vista Launcher Icons (2nd screen).

Credits for the MRU screen are not for me, it goes to RoboDad.

Thank you again for your nice skin and I have notice in spbmenu page, time page and weather page not show status bar (battery, time, operator and connection status) as another page in your skin.

So I have modified spbmenu.xml, time.xml and weather.xml to fixed this problem already. (base on RoboDat's PointUI Skin)

The design of your skin is fantastic : well design, looking professional.

The only change I would see is some adjustments regarding the date.

I think it could look better if you display the date in only one line, and center the date just under the clock.

I like how it looks but I prefer the functionalityof MS2.1, so I made my own MS2.1 Theme based on it's graphics.

This is my first attempt at this MS2.1 skinning thing. Thanks to all developers like Kulet, azzambm and Dredd, from whose works I learned a lot.

This is still under development, ONLY Portrait support. Landscape support will follow soon.

I'm posting this for feedbacks on bugs or suggestions for adjustments/modification.

Features:

1) It doesn't matter if your using a Classic or Professional Now Screen. Same layout designs for both.
2) To change from Analog to Digital Now Screen, just swipe the screen Left to Right or vise-versa, much like the GSmart Today Theme. No need to go to SPB MS Settings.
3) Contains 5 Tabs: Now Screen, Calendar, Launcher, MRU, and SpeedDial.
4) Support for Voice Mail (untested as i don't have a Voicemail Acct), and Connection Icon.

A question:
I change the background and the status icons of gsmart-skin (I want bigger ones). In qa_status.xml I also changed the size of the icons. So far so good.
But where I have to change the distance between the status icons, because the bigger ones are overlapping now (see picture below)??
I hope someone can tell me.
Edit: I installed MS2.1 but miss the connection indicators in this skin.

Edit2: I managed it on myself (see picture 2). Just editing the 3 lockscreen-files in qa_layouts.

Mind Sharing Your files I too like the larger notification Icons? Did you get a voicemail icon to work as well?

Hey guys. Pretty new to SPB shell and PPC phones in general so be gentle. :D

Right now I'm using Robodads 2.1 PointUI theme. It basically does everything I want it to do. I was looking through this thread and came across these screens. If I could take Robodads theme and replace the bottom shortcuts with volume, sms, etc... that would be nothing short of amazing. unfortunately I have no idea what I'm doing at all. lol.

As I said, I'm pretty new to all of this. I was wondering if someone could point me in the direction/thread/post etc... of how I would go about changing the bottom tabs to something like this. 1. Contact Page (Speed Dial) very useful for me. But I don't like default contact manager program. So I have change it to my favorite program such as FingerFriendlyFriend or Inesoft Address Book

you can change contact manager program by edit Registry:


Step 1. Goto HKLM\Software\Spb Software House 2\Spb Mobile Shell\Menu\Root\Organizer\Contacts

Step 2. Add New String Value
Name: File
String: \Program Files\Finger-Friendly-Friends\FingerFriendlyFriends.exe

Or any program as you want.

2. If you not need Messageing you can disable it in Spb Customize Menu. This menu is system default you can not remove any items under this Menu but you can add New Link, New Files in it.

3. At this time MS 2.1 not stable some time it Hang.

OK, I have finally finished my updates, so here is release 2.1 of the PointUI theme.

As you can see in the screenshots, I have incorporated the connection information into all but the basic Now tab. I tried to suppress the carrier name from the display, but I was unable to find a way to hide it. If anyone else has succeeded in this, let me know and I'll try to add it to my theme. I have also included a new Voicemail icon, as well as newly-upgraded Stardock weather icons (including larger 96x96 icons for the weather page, and a full set of 16x16 icons for the detail displays).

Other changes are the inclusion of the current time on the calendar tab, an additional menu icon choice based on the Pocket Informant logo for those who don't want a Games icon (settable via the registry), and a plethora of layout options for using the theme. I received so many requests for different variations of tab layouts and placement of the calendar info, that I decided to split the theme into two parts. The first part (RoboDad's PointUI 2.1 Base.zip) contains all of the graphic embellishments, but none of the layout information. To use the theme, you will need to copy the base file, plus one of the layout files, to your SPB folder on your device. You have ten, count 'em, TEN layouts to choose from. Here is the breakdown:


Layout-tabcal contains the basic calendar on a separate tab, but no MRU tab, and no close button.

Layout-tabcal+close contains the basic calendar on a separate tab, and a close button, but no MRU tab.

Layout-tabcal+mru contains the basic calendar on a separate tab, and an MRU tab, but no close button.

I know that probably looks a bit confusing, but it is really pretty simple. You just need to decide whether you want the basic calendar tab, the extended calendar tab, or the calendar on the Time page, and then choose between having an MRU tab and/or a close button, or neither.

Ok, I decided to utilize the built in Now screen settings since some may would like to see calendar info in the now screen. Below you will find screenshots and updated files (layout and minor battery and signal graphic enhancement) for the Blue Wall Tab theme. Download and replace existing files in your device, restart and you should be good to go. Please wether you check or not to show calendar in both simple now screen, it will still no show any calendar since calendar is now integrated in Time screen.

OK, here it is. My long-requested PointUI Blue theme:

The same rules apply for this theme as for the black version of the theme. theme. The graphics are in one ZIP file, and the layouts are now split among options.

Note: The layout files from the black version are [b]NOT compatible with this version. You must download a new layout file to go with the new theme.

To choose a layout, first decide whether you want to have the calendar on its own tab, or on the Time sub-page:

I so believe there may be a bug in the skin. When I swipe on the Analog clock to move to the next screen it changes to digital (which is fine). However, if I swipe again it reverts back to analog and continues through this loop. If I start on one of the other screens (MRU) and swipe to the next/pevious this is fine until it gets to the now screen where again it continues to change clock formats but never moves to the next screen.

Outside of Mobile Shell

Start->Settings->System Tab->SPB Mobile Shell
Choose Classic layout then click 'Configure...' and choose the clock type

As for the home screen links: the tab links that SPBMS creates point to the location of a specific tab. For instance, I have the SPB Menu link on my right soft key, when I click it i goto the now screen of kluet's latest theme (tabs go 'MyMenu', 'Now', 'Dial'). If this doesn't work for you then odds are the theme you have has moved the tabs around in such a manner that the canned link can't find it.

Just my observation, I could be wrong.

In my dreams there is a little BT/wireless icon on the now screen showing the status and a little pop up window like the one of profiles opened to toggle BT/wireless.
Could it be possible to add this icon and add the new pop up window?
My experience with xml is near to zero, but there are a lot of professionals in this forum. What do you think?

Hey NiteStalker, great layout for SPB
Does anyone know what program to use to view/edit .dat file. I search and search(maybe not hard enough), but can't find anything.

I only include files that have been edited, you import them in to your mobileshell directory, where the ones I dont provide should already be installed, which should be the original 2.1 installation. Unless there are major edits, most others themes shoud be relatively the same, but if you like to try each theme, it is recommended you restore your directory to the 2.1 default between themes/skins.

However, going from one of my themes to another of mine, should be fine, since I am maintaining a similar file tree for each one I release.

WinZip or WinRaR. Go to the .dats properties and change "Opens with...." to WinZip or WinRaR. What I normally do is change its name after the "." from ".dat" to ".zip" then extract it. I also view the xml files with Notepad. (Password for the .dat turned .zip is - b0fm18zq) Not sure if this is what you were asking for but figured this would be somewhat helpful...

I get G, 3G and H on my device, whatever is available. I'm using the default SPB operator status bitmap, i just changed the signal strength protion.

Yes, I am having the same issue. My voicemail icon gone missing after I installed NightStalker's theme, so that is why I was searching for ways to edit the .dat files. I found ways to edit .dat files by using WinRAR, thanks greatbal, Alkhai. Will post the fix once I find it.

Did you have it on greatbals GSmart theme before you loaded nightstalkers?

Because, I reloaded my phone from scratch and then loaded up gsmart and it still was missing.

I loaded robodads... and the voicemail icon works fine on that.

I don't know. I un-installed SPB Shell V2.1 and re installed the original program(guess I should delete the REG key as well- but didn't). But after I installed SPB, and re installed Nightstalker. I didn't see the voicemail icon.

For those missing the Voicemail icons on the GSmart Themes (original and Glassy one), please try this fix. Just download, unzip and overwrite the original file on SP MS2.1 directory.

I personally feel that themes here are very manly and would prefer something more "girlish" too
that's why I replaced the background of greatbal's GSmart with mobile shell default background... that way I can switch to whatever color I want like pink/purple to suit my need... maybe you can try that too with the instruction provided above

just soft reset your ppc. how to do that? the is a small hole near usb port on you ppc, just stick it with its pen. Which pen? the stylus pen. a pen-like thing that came with your ppc when you bought it. don't have that one? anything is fine.

I've figured out how to move things around and generally mess with MS however I want thanks to all of the great information here, but I'm stuck on getting the gestures/animation to work right without the bottom bar.

What files are the gesture rules located in? I've moved the bottom bar off of the screen (as described in the How-To guide thread) but the animations don't work on the bottom pixels where the bottom bar used to be.

Any suggestions or leads on how to animate the entire screen?

It seems that there are few spb contacts skins. Therefore I skinned the contacts tab - it works great with iphone with style skin.

Where did you get this black version for MS 2.1? or did you mod it from the 2.0 version?
I can only find the blue version for 2.1 but not black.

Also, I've tried to install some of the theme for MS 2.1, but after putting those .dat files in the MS directory and soft reset, nothing happened and the SPB menu button didn't work so I can't go to MS at all. One thing I've noticed is that most of those .dat files from the theme has different name than the one in my PPC, usually differ by just one letter, do I have to rename them to the same as what on my PPC or do I just copy everything from the zip file and it should work? Help !

Hi there,
based on greatbal phantastic skin, I tried to replace the clock (add clock.bmp also in the xml-file and changed background, icon positions,...).
But I recognized some problems with photoshop. I changed a photo of a Breitling watch, but the quality of the picture looses quality.
This happens to wallpapers sometimes too. Playing with brightness and contrast to find something dark blue, but after saving (16 bit, R5G6B5) the quality seems to be less as if there are not enough colours.
A question to the professionals: how do you change bmp-files with photoshop without loosing quality? And if you have another nice picture of a clock face, please show me.

I tried this one, but the white text on the light background made it really hard to see. I find that a dark background with white text seems to be easier to read/see.

It sounds like you may be encountering the problem I noted when the extended time page calendar was first requested. There is a problem with Mobile Shell that causes it to freeze if you use that layout with the calendar setting set to anything other than "Auto". I'm not sure why it misbehaves, but I am reasonably confident that it isn't the layout itself, since all it does is define a larger space on the page for the appointments and calendar, and it does work fine with the calendar in "Auto" mode.

Try changing the calendar setting and let me know if that helps. It may also help to set the Alarm to "Show always", since that will decrease the space available for appointments, which I think may be the source of the problem.

Features:
- New Menu Icons
- New Profile Icons
- New Operator Icons
- Weather page will display full 128x128 current condition icon.
- And some other minor tweaks I may have forgotten.

This will have the same layout as the Gray theme. As always, Today Tsk and S2U2 are included and it supports landscape mode.

Yes there's only three tabs:

Launcher (9 menu icons, 5 MRU shortcuts)
Lockscreen
Contact (only 1 page)

You can switch between tabs by gesture or pressing button icons.

I'm trying to change a skin with 3 contacts pages and 5 buttons.

When I'm in portrait mode and that I do I scroll through the pages:
Clock -> Calendar -> SPB Menu -> Quick Menu -> Contact 1 -> Contact 2 -> Contact 3 -> Contact 1 -> Contact 2 -->...

Hello all,

So I'm still liking the grayish HTC-ish look but wanted a little more color, just a little bit. Then I came up with this. Flat Blue.

Features:
- New Menu Icons
- New Profile Icons
- New Operator Icons
- Weather page will display full 128x128 current condition icon.
- And some other minor tweaks I may have forgotten.

This will have the same layout as the Gray theme. As always, Today Tsk and S2U2 are included and it supports landscape mode.

For those who would like to have a different layout or other request (if any), please PM me and I'll try to fulfill your requests as much as I can but please, no promises.

I also would like to thank everyone for their appreciation, comments and opinions on my themes. Its worth all the effort.

It sounds like you may be encountering the problem I noted when the extended time page calendar was first requested. There is a problem with Mobile Shell that causes it to freeze if you use that layout with the calendar setting set to anything other than "Auto". I'm not sure why it misbehaves, but I am reasonably confident that it isn't the layout itself, since all it does is define a larger space on the page for the appointments and calendar, and it does work fine with the calendar in "Auto" mode.

Try changing the calendar setting and let me know if that helps. It may also help to set the Alarm to "Show always", since that will decrease the space available for appointments, which I think may be the source of the problem.

Glad I could help. I'm actually thinking about designing a "compromise" layout, since it is pretty clear now that allowing too much room for the calendar is a bad thing. I'm going to try to add the extra city display back in, but compress it enough that the calendar still has plenty of room, but not too much.

If I can make it work, I'll post it.

OK I thought this was going to be easy.. Silly me. All I want to do is re-order the icons in the launcher page. I go to the Luancher.xml file, then to:

I changed plugin name = "m2" to say "m5", etc. The Icons move, but in seemingly unpredictable ways. So I'm obviously missing something. Did a search of course here and in the beginner threads and came up empty. If this was addressed already my apologies.

I get the X,Y coordinates - but I don't understand why changing the plugin order is not working for me... Thanks all!

EDIT: I was making something so easy way too difficult. You just have to set the index value to 0 through 8 for each one of the menu/root keys. So simple.

It is not possible with the plug-ins supplied by SPB. They don't support tasks (or all day events, such as birthdays and holidays) with their software. If someone were to create a custom plug-in that displays these items, then it would be possible. But, since the Mobile Shell plug-in architecture has not been published, that seems unlikely for the time being.

If you may have noticed in my previous themes, I don't use the "small" data connection icons so this theme would not have it also. In my future themes I may include it but we'll see. Also, which icon is the Voicemail Icon? Which screenshot is it shown in? and is it possible to get the voicemail icon to show up as a 4th icon, right after mail, sms, & missed call? or maybe decrease the top and bottom of MS to allow for us to continue to see the menu and status bar (top and bottom bars)?

I've been mixing and matching various skins and I've managed to get a layout that I'm really happy with (based off of kulet's blue-ray glossy). However I noticed that when I go to Settings>Personal in Mobile Shell all the icons are miss-matched with their application. I've attached a screen capture of what Mobile Shell is showing vs how they should be.

Any idea what file I may have messed up to cause these icons to be miss-matched?

Is it possible to replace SPB Contact application with Pocket CM?

I asked a similar question at some point in another thread and was told it is not possible. So I made several registry changes to accomplish this. Basically I moved a few of the apps on the Tools page to the My Menu page. Then on the Launcher page I renamed Tools to Contacts. Deleted all the tools I didn't need. And added the "file" key and a few others for icons, etc. So now when I touch the renamed Contacts button my default contact manager starts. SPB Speeddial page(s) are still available under this configuration. Hope this helps.

If you would like screenshots let me know and I will supply when I get home.

Here's my current setup, just taken the best of (IMHO) in this thread put it together with a few tweak of my own e.g. data connection status on all screens, even on classic now!

I'm still not happy with the launcher icons and still deciding on the background whether to have uniform background as is the case here or have different background for different screens:-/ so watch this space for v3:)

I would appreciate some feedback! anyway it's late and I can't exactly remember which dat files I modified (there were many) so I have attached all the qa dat files!

I figured it out... I just use the "lockscreen_analog" instead of "home" in the main.xml.... I don't care for the digital anyway...

This way... I set up the gestures to go between all the tabs and it doesn't get stuck on the clocks pages.

Here is my qa_layouts.dat file... It has the main.xml that just has the analog clock. But something you may or may not like is it also only has the Now, Calendar and Menu pages that it cycles through.

I like a real simple three menu skin.

It will at least give you the feel of one now screen and actually being able to gesture through all the menus.

Go to MS (I use 2.1) "Menu" "Settings" "Spb Mobile Shell" and click "Tabs"
Add SPB Phone Suite as a Tabs (and also its icon).
You can also add SPB Backup as a tab in there.

The setting also can be done via "Start" "Setting" "System" and "Spb Mobile Shell".
