8525/TyTN screen is brighter in camera mode?

So I just picked up an AT&T 8525 (HTC TyTN) and love it so far. A strange quirk has come up though...with the screen brightness at maximum, it still seems rather dim. When I switch to camera mode, it suddenly gets brighter.

Is there some option somewhere I've missed?

I use that all the time. Great for watching movies and what not. Will drain your battery pretty quickly, though, if you leave it on all day like I've done before.
