NiteStalker Spb Mobile Shell Theme Bundles [5 June 2008]

Welcome to my Spb Mobile Shell Theme Packs!

This is a theme based on single background images, and integrated into 3 different areas of my phone. These 3 areas are the (1) Today Screen, (2) The Phone Dialer, and (3) Spb Mobile Shell.

Supported Versions:

Today Screen: Windows Mobile 5.0 and Higher (possibly reverse compatable with earlier versions) *Integrated into the Mobile Shell install CABs
Dialer Pad: Requires hardware support send/end keys
Spb Mobile Shell 2: (http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/mobileshell/?en) Support versions 2.0 and 2.1 features
QVGA Support: 240x320 Portrait and 320x240 Landscape Modes supported by all 3 packages. Other resolutions have limited support, use at own risk.

As with all installations/upgrades, it is highly recommended you prefrom a backup of your device before proceeding with any changes.

Installation:
- The Mobile Shell Themes should be installed on a clean version of "Spb Mobile Shell", if any theme from another author was previously installed, you should restore the most current version by reinstalling the OEM package.
- Download the CAB, and run from device, install to device not the storage card.
- "Soft Reset" the device.

Description: Minor tweaked version of the popular "Spb Watcher", when active as a "today plugin", Spb Mobile shell is forced to open when the today screen is displayed.
- Version 1.0.1: Minor tweaks to registry, more reliable function.
- NOTE: I take no/none/zero credit for the build of this program, nor do I know who the original author was, I have only cleaned up a few redundant items that I think were introducing bugs. I doubt they are all gone but im happy with the stability. -Thanks

Calendar Tab Note: In order to get the calendar tab to display goto "Settings>System>Spb Mobile Shell", on the "Now Screen" tab ensure it is set for "Classic", and uncheck "Show ...." in the config option. The calendar tab is designed to auto hide if you display the calendar or appointments on any of the now screens. This effects all 3 layouts, I felt that the calendar tab becomes redundant if the calendar is already displayed on a different tab. Configure calendar options while having "Professional" selected, best appearance is when "auto" is selected.

In effect, this makes each theme have 5 different layouts:
1) Classic Analog with Calendar tab
2) Classic Analog without Calendar tab
3) Classic Digital with Calendar tab
4) Classic Digital without Calendar tab
5) Professional Digital without Calendar tab.

I have installed only the dialpad portion of mobile3 (cubed). I like it, but after making one call, then the smart dial ceases to function. I uninstalled the application, but I guess your files replaced necessary files in the windows directory that I foolishly did not back up. I would rather keep the installer if I can make it work on the phone properly, but if not, can you tell me how I might go about restoring the original files in my windows directory. I am using a Cingular 8125 with winodws mobile 5. Thanks.

I've never seen any of the problems you describe, my files are just graphics anyway. If you want to uninstall, remove wizard_reTOUCHed_Dialer2, through the regular unistall routine. It should uninstall just fine, I've been able to get my ATT Dialer back every time.

I've seen this problem too, its not caused the theme, try remaping the softkey in your mobile shell settings, or other softkey remapping utility. The Spb Softkey Mapper seems to be a bit buggy.

i see the screenshots of the today screen (the first screenshot of this post)
in that today screenshot there five icones an d i have only four
look, up i have the clock, under the clock three icons (e-mail, messanges and calls) and under these three icons, i have just 4 icons (home, weather, direct access and rings tones)
in the first screenshot of this post, the today screen have 5 icons...
uhmm, this is a program? a plug in? a rom?

I get the following message on my Touch Dual after copying the files to \Program files\Mobile Shell\"here" :

"Can't open file MenuLauncher. Perhaps this file is not signed or one of its component is missing".

How can I solve this?

EDIT: I have Mobile Shell 2.0 installed.. The problem is worse as I thought: even after copying the original files back to \Program files\Mobile Shell\"here", I keep getting the MenuLauncher-error. The phone is useless now, I can't do anything with it! :(

How to solve this? Please help!

Hi, reinstalling Mobile Shell worked for me. You can do this by:

- Opening ActiveSync,
- Extra > Software,
- Uncheck SPB Mobile Shell and press OK to uninstall it,
- Extra > Software,
- Check SPB Mobile Shell and press OK to reinstall it.

But after this, you will have the default theme again.

EDIT: I found out what was causing the problem. It's SPBWatcher.CAB. That's the reason for the MenuLauncher error! I got rid of that little bug using above method, then copied the Mobile3-theme to my Touch Dual again. Looks lovely now! :)

You can replace the "qp_menu_btn.dat" with the file from another theme to change those icons.

Love the look of the theme, but I have an HTC Universal (VGA), so I'm assuming nothing would work - can anybody give me some pointers as to how I resize all the icons, etc, to make this work for that?

Not sure why you can't access them, I checked the download from my location and a friends, but anyway, I attatched the files to the local servers, see the bottom of each post.

Replace the file of the "qa_logo.dat" Replace with "qa_logo_Lamborghini.dat".

Im working out the easy install to swapp the logos. And will add additional graphics. And will take suggestion.

the needles are a little hard to see especially when you're outdoors if you use blue theme. the other blue theme is much worse and harder to see.. how to keep them the same color but make them stand out a little more? i posted a screen shot but harder to see them on actual phone. i dunno... red/orange needles might look nice and stand out on all colors.

on my now screen i don't have operator name. is that intentional? the theme is excellent either way, but it would be nice to have operator (i roam alot) somewhere like the other themes you've created.

I see what you mean about the needles, will play around a bit to find a way to make them stand out better. Will probly be a white outline on the blue, but I'll try some reds and oranges too. Maybe I should do multiple colors so people could choose which dial set to install.


Operator name was intentionally removed from the analog page, because placement once you integrate smart operator fuctions in to a larger format was not customizable. I did leave it on the other pages though.

Well the operator is completely cusomized graphics, SPB only intended the small graphics to display the roam and network data. I had to alter the code and create new graphics for the larger meter, so realigning the icon is not possible due to actual graphic size. The network (ie e,3g,ev) just appear smaller be cause of transparent properties, in reality they are the same size as the large meter. I considered not using them at all because of size/alignment issues, but I prefer to see when im in a faster network area. I kind of like the space, but you can always go back to build 2 which still used the operator_small on the analog now screen.

As far as the close button, I did not put an icon in the new graphic set for that. Since close can be acconplished by pressing the "ok" or "end/red" keys, or by swiping your finger down on the screen.

Just one thing, it is true that the color of the needle it is not very visible when your are outside (i have black theme).
Maybe if it is not to much to ask to change it for red or something like that.

The clock issue has been fixed, along with a few other items I had on my todo list, will be packageing today and releasing build 4. Keep an eye out for it!

Excellent theme thank you :) I have 3 questions that I cannot seem to get answered in any other thread:

1) I was wondering, I am using your custom dial pad but when I use a different color other than black for the theme, everything uses that new color but the dialer. Is there a way to make the dialer use the same theme color?

2) Is possible to add another button icon on the bottom and have it manually go to a program of your choice. I run your Today fix so that the Now page is default but when I do this the softkeys are overriden to flip back and forth. What I would like is another icon at the bottom (in the row that chooses the Now, Calendar etc) that I can link directly to my SPB Contacts. The least amount of clicks to get to where I need to go will help when I'm driving and not trying to cause an accident :)

3) I really like the Now screen so that is my default (see #2 above). The 3 "notification" icons are great but am I missing one? There seems to be no way to be notified if I have a Voice Mail waiting like there is in the normal today page. Q1. Answer, unfortunatly this is not possible at this time, with spb ms color themes it is designed change itself and the today screen, The dialer is an additional program. Once I'm back home and using my full version of my adobe suite I will work on an integration system for that, but for now im working on a laptop and the cheap adobe ps elements only.

Q2. Answer, im keeping up on others work, and this is not posible for the most part, I have been working on some work around to get this accomplished but the developers have seemed to be stingy with their knowlege since the "Diamond Theme" release. So the calls for help have gone unanswered. I feel im getting close now to cracking this but its not easy, maybe it will make major update version x.1.x in my packages.

Q3. Answer, If you are upgraded to SPB Mobile Shell v2.1 (NOT 2.0) Voice mail support is enabled, and all of my themes support those notices. If you see the 3 notifcation icons, the forth one for voicemail overwrites one when it has a count of 1 or higher. However you must have VMN support from your service provider, if they dont support it, I recommend youmail.com, they support the vmn system.


Announcement: Im working on some MLB themes and some Military Themes, Due to MLB rules for their trademarks, There will not be a public release, but I will post photos so you can see them and get ideas for your own.

1st will be NY Yankees designed for a friend, ignore the bugs they are allready fixed. And yes, that little playing field is the signal strength meter.

There is no color, the #'s are white, maybe they are being effected by your today theme?

One question: is it possible in an easy way to change the background image of your theme? And if so, what are the steps necessary? I would love to have a plain black (or like the WM6.1 black, attached) background. Your background looks nice but is too busy to quikly get an overview for my eyes...

I am using an HTC Universal (T-mob MDA Pro) having done a 'clear data' reset.

I then install Mobile Shell 2.1, all good so far, I then install SPB_Mobile_Shell_v2.1__Cubed_.cab. Soft reset and all that happens is I can't press the Spb Menu links (drop down or bottom right or program files).

I get no changes at all, other than a lack of response from Spb Mobile Shell. What am I doing wrong guys. fell in love with the theme, but it seems it's unrequited love.

Any pointers appreciated.

Welcome to my Spb Mobile Shell Theme Packs!

This is a theme based on single background images, and integrated into 3 different areas of my phone. These 3 areas are the (1) Today Screen, (2) The Phone Dialer, and (3) Spb Mobile Shell.

Supported Versions:

Today Screen: Windows Mobile 5.0 and Higher (possibly reverse compatable with earlier versions) *Integrated into the Mobile Shell install CABs
Dialer Pad: Requires hardware support send/end keys
Spb Mobile Shell 2: (http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/mobileshell/?en) Support versions 2.0 and 2.1 features
QVGA Support: 240x320 Portrait and 320x240 Landscape Modes supported by all 3 packages. Other resolutions have limited support, use at own risk.

As with all installations/upgrades, it is highly recommended you prefrom a backup of your device before proceeding with any changes.

Installation:

Calendar Tab Note: In order to get the calendar tab to display goto "Settings>System>Spb Mobile Shell", on the "Now Screen" tab ensure it is set for "Classic", and uncheck "Show ...." in the config option. The calendar tab is designed to auto hide if you display the calendar or appointments on any of the now screens. This effects all 3 layouts, I felt that the calendar tab becomes redundant if the calendar is already displayed on a different tab. Configure calendar options while having "Professional" selected, best appearance is when "auto" is selected.

In effect, this makes each theme have 5 different layouts:
1) Classic Analog with Calendar tab
2) Classic Analog without Calendar tab
3) Classic Digital with Calendar tab
4) Classic Digital without Calendar tab

Follow the instructions in the "SPB Mobile Shell 2.0 Beginner's How-To," post #1. The key to doing this is the following line:

You have to save the file as a Windows - 16bit - R5 G6 B5 - .bmp file.

I have only been able to do this with Photoshop, but there may be other (free) programs out there. (I am using the free 45-day trial version.)

It took some trial and error, so before you repack everything into the qp_bkg_now.dat file, make sure to copy the original so you can stick it back in if your modified one doesn't work.

understood. Here are the lines I should care about:

So far, doing this is pretty easy:
- Extract files from qp_bkg_now.dat
- Change the separator2 and its mask to 240x320.
- Make the mask all white.
- Then put whatever image you like into the separator2 bmp.
You have to save the file as a Windows - 16bit - R5 G6 B5 - .bmp file.


My understanding is, that this is the background for the now screen in portrait (240x320); what about landscape (320x240) background and the other backgrounds like contacts, calendar, MRU, programs, etc. -> I understand that you managed to change most of them.

Instead of going through the pain of installing photoshop and create own background images, would it be possible to just extract from other themes the appropriate separator2.bmp from the appropriate *.dat files? I would like to have backgrounds from the Diamond theme or WM7???

You can extract .bmp file from other themes and use them. As far as how I got the other screen's backgrounds to change, I don't exactly remember! Like I said, it will take some experimentation; I don't remember which file I changed to make it work. When I couldn't get it to work for the "Now" screen via the qp_bkg_now file, I started changing the Separator2 and Separator2_m .bmp's in other .dat files wherever I found them. I wish I could remember, because I'm going through much the same thing right now with a different theme! If Nitestalker would pop up with a hint or two, I'd be using his theme, because I like the layout so much!:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Your dialer is the best i have been able to find so far for WM6. I'm using it on an AT&T Tilt. I have created some of my own themes and would like to create dialers to match. I figured out how to change all of the graphics but this requires that my graphics are the same size as yours and that all of my buttons are located in the exact same position and are the same size on the screen. I'd like to be able to customize the layout of the buttons and make them larger for people with fat fingers like myself.

Can you point me in the right direction for how to change the layout/size of the buttons? Is there a certain file that contains the layout information that just needs updated/tweaked to accomplish this? Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

This error is usually associated with uninstalling mobile shell with SPB Today Screen active on the today screen, disable that module or reinstall mobile shell.
