This phone looks really cool, and i thought i would share it with you.
The May 6th event in London in London is drawing ever closer. It is still three days away, and our mouths are already watering for the HTC Diamond. The presumed highlight of the show, will be the HTC Diamond. Now, instead of the low quality spy shots we have seen, we finally have some awesome images. Also, we have the rumored specifications of the device. Strap in, because this is some exciting stuff.
For media, there is a 3.2 megapixel camera, 4GB of internal storage with MicroSD expansion still on the table, FM radio and a 2.8 inch glorious VGA screen. This things rocks Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, and has the hardware to back it up, with a 528MHz CPU monster. Connectivity is a sure thing, with HSDPA 7.6mbps, and WiFi, you are ready for all the high speed you can handle. To round out the feature list, it has a slide out QWERTY, quad band GSM, a rumored accelerometer, and is 10.7mm thick

I'll tell you why:
Because this is the most popular thread and people get a wider coverage for their posts here.
It sucks that they misuse the xda-forum like this, and they make it a nightmare for the rest of us to navigate the forum.

This is true and I had thought of posting my Themes in this section which others have but, I posted them in general instead. Making a theme isn't development IMO as compared to making the killer app iTask.

really ugly !!! The front looks good, but the BACK !!!
vga is great, but the screen isnt bigger than others, why ? and does it still have just 64000 colors ?
The cpu is good, but this is no real milestone, and really uggly design sorry. Reminds me of the ugly corners of the touchcruise.
But you are all right, this is all definitly wrong here.

I think it's beautiful all the way. The back is painted with an optical illusion that it looks like a diamond, where in fact it's just flat. Brilliant! :)

Have you guys ever heard of buzz marketing?
This is exactly what this DaVince boy is doing.
I hope for him that he makes some good money out of this.
BTW the HTC Diamond brings in some step changes and not the quantum leap he alluded to.

This is a continuation of the Touch series. There is no QWERTY slide out keyboard.
Enough to make me not buy it, sadness.

I was thinking of buying a Diamond for Mother's Day for my wife who is enjoying her Wizard. I was assuming that the video performance problem that exists with the Touch, the Kaiser, the Athena, etc., etc. is fixed in the Diamond, but I'd like to be sure.
My Wizard and my Cingular 2125 perform better than my Tilt and my Athena. By perform better, I mean screen redraws; doing things like changing orientation, or using the Camera, or scrolling in a web page, are painfully slow on the Tilt and the Anthena. I don't own a Touch, so I don't know first hand, but I believe the Touch is listed on http://www.htcclassaction.org/.
Since the Diamond is in the Touch family, I am concerned that it will have the same video performance issues. I'm not up enough on which chipset use which drivers.
Does anyone know if HTC has fixed the video driver problem in the Diamond?

When it's out to buy, we will all know :D
hopefully they fixed the camera too
like the looks, like the 4G of internal mem. but there is nothing about a micro sd slot on the site and 4g is simply not enough.

THIS PISSES ME OFF!!! :mad:THEY MAKE A GREAT PHONE AND NO MICRO SD SLOT!!!! LIKE THE IPHONE NOW ITS A PIECE OF JUNK. I don't get it. the best thing to be apply to get more memory. i have 8gigs micro sd card and it is half full already come on HTC STOP BEING LIKE APPLE NOT LETTING ANYONE TO UPGRADE ANYTHING. MONEY HUNGRY A-HOLES.
they should of keep the 4gigs internal and have a slot for micro sd that would be ideal.
p.s.
and it doesnt have stero. COME ON!!!!

Can't HTC figure these things out?
Cmon guys, it isn't that hard to know what the end user will expect in such an expensive device...

I disagree. There are goodies in iPhone that HTC doesn't have.
Best of all, the iphone screen and touch control is way better than HTC... hoping HTC and MS can put more color to the screen....

Diamond won't have MicroSD slot because it has 4GB internal memory. The Raphael on the other hand has a MicroSD slot because it loses the 4GB internal memory, but gains a physical keyboard. It's a tradeoff and meant to cater toward specific groups of people.

So cool the 3d cube..I hope that one day people in here will be able to make the program like this :D especially for VGA coz SCLPC++ is not compatible for VGA so maybe this is the time for VGA users to joy :)

Check out HTC Touch Diamond in action video. Device looks slugish as hell, terrible. It seems that even a 520 Mhz proc and 128 mb ram are not enough for the new 3D TouchFlo. If this is how a finished device is going to perform then it is really terrible...I hope that this is only a preproduction model and that a final device will be smoothed out.

Wishful thinking....
It is a worry - due to ship in a few weeks so probably a production model and you would assume a squeaky clean install.
I've seen another vid where the device locks completely under normal usage. Can only wonder what it'll do once I've installed all my crap.
And with Tomtom maps and a couple of vids the non expandable 4GB is not enough.
A real shame - been waiting on this for a while and just falls short - again. Why do they feel the need to give with one hand and deliver a crippling blow with the other....

How can you disagree when it does not have 3G and GPS. The Iphone is a paper weight. If I want to buy a later model phone then YOU should go back to the old brick phones.
Here in the USA we are starting to get more 3g locations but in everywhere else they are already using going to be 4g and I am sure there will be a faster speed just around the corner. Anyway this phone company’s need to get with the program and when adding new features and removing good ones like micro SD slots for example. I am sick off their stupid phones that never works and here at XDA developer always trying to fix it. I think they should hire most of the guys that develops here are learn from them. like listening on what the people want and not on how can we rob more money out of these people.
If I was a phone manufacture I would make every phone with the latest tech and user friendly software so that everyone can use it. I think the htc diamond was nice when I saw the video but when i read the spec's I was shock that first it didn't have micro SD slot and second that it only has a 4 gig of memory. Come on HTC I HAVE A 8 GIG AND ITS HALF FULL ALREADY!! At least the Iphone has 16 gig now and 16 gig and 32 gig micro sd cards are coming out shortly.

Hm... You know... For me 4 gigs of memory - it's good enough. Couple videos 20 albums ad gig for files. My PDA phone is a phone, not a file server.
Now i'm using Touch with 4 gigs and i'm really satisfied

Wow I just watched the video of the HTC Diamond in action and I am shocked!!! This device has 192MB of RAM and it continues to act like a PPC that only has 64MB of RAM. That is very very sad indeed to see how sluggish it is with that much RAM... now imagine if we tried that 3d touch interface on one of the devices we have now... can you say FREEZE?

sounds like Meizu M8 is your candidate. it's gonna be running WinCE6.0 core, which is what WM7 will be based on... so maybe possible for future change to WM7

bah.. im buying the polaris.
Bah - me too. I was really waiting for the VGA - it really did cut the mustard on my old looxn560 - for sat nav and just about everything else really. Was a real loss when I went the convergence route with the magician.
However - that display sucked battery dry in a couple of hours, which I won't miss. And I do expect quad band and expandable memory as a baseline requirement (I mean, jeez, you shouldn't even have to ask about the SD card - it should just be there).
So maybe the cruise is the way after all. And I could have one in the morning.
If it wasn't for that nagging video driver issue. Guess I'll need to try one out and see if I can live with it.
I'm also missing my Trinity - smashed screen :(

Is it just me or is the Touchflo 3d not very impressive at all?
The clock looks good, but it takes up even more space than HTC Home...
The SMS seems horrible... extremely painful to scroll through
Same deal with the mail??
Music player looks alright... but seems painful to browse...
The picture viewer was just chokey as...
Overall, major disappointment... I however wouldn't mind getting it to just run WM6.1 and my old apps, coz of the faster cpu and bigger memory... :D

I too, jump from Trinity to Cruise. Yes, without any tweaking, Cruise is more sluggish than Trinity. However, with the tweaking (can be found here in Polaris Threads) it's actually better in most ways, e.g. initiating applications, etc. However, one area which I still find a bit slower than Trinity is Internet Explorer (even Opera Browser), despite the fix installed. Maybe I need to tweak it some more.
You will definitely like the flush screen! :)

I see everyone bothered about the lack of MicroSD and the resistive touch screen......
My main gripe is the 900mah battery...
Are they serious???
My Herald has a 1130mah battery and i already ordered a 1500one....
And imagine that the Diamond has a faster processor, more memory and VGA screen, all these will sap power faster than older generation devices...
The absolute deal breaker for me
