I would've got this but.... no microSD slot. At least it's not explicitly mentioned on any product sheets I've seen htc.com, devicewire, expansys... They all just 4GB internal

If htc's claim is true, its stand-by time doesn't look bad. At least it's not worse than Elf's.

I noticed that his has the newer msm7201a chip in it. It is supposedly pin compatible with a tilt's msm7200. Can this be swapped into a tilt and utilize its enhanced speed (528 vs 400 mhz)?

They layout and shape of the phone are strikingly like the LG KU990, at least, that's what I think :P

It does have a microSDHC slot.
Where have you seen that it does? I know lots of gadget news sites say it does but where did they get their information? It's my guess they just assumed it would have one.
There is NO microSD slot, adding it would have added 2mm to the chassis

There's a picture or two on this ( http://www.phonemag.com/htc-touch-diamond-is-announced-demoed-052686.php?nggpage=2 ) page where something like a slot is visible at the top edge.

That could very well be the sim card slot. However... I can't image HTC releasing a phone to compete in todays market without having a micro sd slot.. It COULD have a hidden slot like it does on the touch.

Funny thing is, I bought a 4GB microSDHC card when I first bought the Elf. I inserted the card into its slot and forgot about it. I took it out only when I needed to transfer a large file to it, namely the Wikipedia 2006 dump. Other than that, the card never came out.

Well I would have expected a MicroSD card but then I now have 4GB of memory directly on the device.
So I am trying to decide what I am actually losing.
When I use my MicroSD card I tend to connect it up to a PC and copy data onto it. So I could just connect the device directly to the PC without any extra incovenience.
I don't own a laptop that can read MicroSD and have never needed to buy a card reader.
At this level I am not concerned as direct USB connection of the PDA is more than sufficient.
So what do I do with my MicroSD card? I put a copy of TomTom on it, I store music on it, I redirect my documents to it. I also put on my applications and source files for the apps.
I have a 2GB MicroSD on my touch and it is just about full - mainly of crap if I am honest.
I expect the new device will be just a full of crap too!
I think not having a slot will not make any difference to me so I am happy.
Does anyone else need a MicroSD card really?
All the best,
Sam.

Now I'm weighing up between a new Elf, or going for the Diamond. Am I right in assuming it can run WM5/6 applications? I'd want to install things such as TomTom 6 and WA3.
Please advise :)
Thanks

Man, one of the biggest reasons i like the htc phones are due to the rubber backing on most models. I wish they would have used this on the diamond. Otherwise, I see this is the perfect phone.
