Damn that new HTC Diamond looks impressive (http://www.htc.com/europe/product.aspx?id=46654). Anyone know if it will be possible to rip the software/rom out of it and install on our Polaris'es?

It looks damm good indeed.
Hope the firmware can be used for the Polaris..only the camera is a 3.2mp..that's a bit low for a new model if u ask me..other gsm's work with 5mp at this moment.
And also the polaris has a 3.2 mp already.

Diamond is VGA device, so i'm not sure that it will be possible to use GUI from it on Cruise which is QVGA.
Also question is about acceleration and drivers, cause this features would be really slow on Cruise.

Touch Cruise has 4 times less pixels than Diamond.
Processing power shouldn't be the limiting factor.

Agreed ... and only tri-band GSM, duo-band UMTS
So it is not useable outside countries that use these frequencies (eg. almost the entire Southern Hemisphere + US) and you cannot add SDHC card capacity to it

Guys this thing has a 900 mAH battery, to drive a VGA screen with GPS, bluetooth, wireless and 3G. I currently have an iMate ultimate 9502 with similar specs - VGA, GPS, wireless etc. it has a 1600+ mAH battery and still only just manages to last for a day. This thing will die after a few hours, unless there is some really sexy new battery technology here.
i will avoid this like the plague until they bring out the high performance after market batteries. A phone that lasts 3-4 hours is of NO value to me.

Okay, the look is pretty nice (thanks to the designer at Nokia for the idea on their 7500 models...). The functionalities sound pretty good.
But....
How HTC can propose a modern PPC without MicroSD expansion slot ?? !!
I let you imagine the time you'll lost each time you'll have to reinstall your device from scratch. E.g did you already copy the 1.7Gbytes of the TomTom Western & Central Europe map via your PC USB ??? And I don't talk about the MP3 music file you'll have to (re)copy each time you reinstall your device...
One another thing not 100% is to be sure that this device have the correct performance in term of graphical display. It is a Qualcomm processor 528Mhz (128Mhz more than the Polaris). I'm curious to know if HTC have developed the graphic driver to attack the ATI built in graphic processor..
and finally.... the price incredibly high for such incomplete device.
For sure if HTC continue to play this nasty marketing game, a lot of their actual customer will see other alternatives (Glofiish, Asus etc..).
That's all for the moment folks !

It sounds like a problem, but if you have a particular folder in your PC that contains all the files for the 4GB storage, it won't cause too much a problem when flashing your PDA.
However, if you notice the Diamond is using internal storage instead of expansion slot, it is a very similar hardware format to the iphone.
I believe the advantage of this is quicker access to the file and therefore less time/ lag on loading up the album/ movie contents.
AND, I believe this 4GB version will be their trial version, and newer model with bigger internal storage such as 8 or 16 GB is on their way.

Back to square one.. its laggy....don't matter how much u dress up Windows Mobile...its an inherent WM design flaw...htc are really trying, I am impressed with the new Touch3d interface.
Its Microsoft !!! they cannot make WM run smooth on anything...come on theres got to be one device atleast....
Granted that HTC dropped a bollock...but the MSM720? is almost "the standard" chip now considering how many manufacturers are using it, shouldn't have WM 6.1 had a good generic driver ?
Sorry off topic a bit...but everytime there is new WM device......lag always creeps up.
I think if was not for HTC marketing and pepping up WM....it would not be as popular as it is today.
Look at this video it looks fine http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=htc+diamond&sitesearch=&start=20
I think it shows how hard HTC has been working on the interface in trying to completely disguise WM.

TC had the video flaw, I trust the Diamond will have some flaw when it comes out. Better wait for the 'next' model, HTC has no exp using vga screens or video acceleration.
plus, why get this when WM7 will have proper support for orientation sensors and multitouch and all the stuff the iphone has already but nobody can hack only WM6?
as bad as WM6 is, I don't want what HTC has hacked onto it which will be just as bad.

Three problems with this device that will make me keep using my Dash:
1) No expansion slot (using 8gb in my Dash and have another inside the cover)
2) No 3.5 mm jack (Dash doe not either, but none on Diamond gives me no reason to change)
3) 900 ma battery is too small for a VGA device using a 528 mhz CPU- even if you use the throttling. (I have a 1550 ma in my Dash and it lasts all day when listening to music, surfing and watching a movie). Movie and sound quality are just as good as the Creative Zen. I know because I have one of them too.

Does anyone even know if it will run on our 3G? Obviously in the specs it lists Europe and Asia 3G, but with the new release of the Touch Dual in the US it has a 1900Mhz listed.

You are absolutely right man, couldnīt say it a better way!!!!!!
