I was able to get the TestUIPlugin to work and update in realtime. I used mortscript to get values from "weather watcher mobile", which is free. Currently, you run the script, it loads weather watcher, copies over the forecast data, updates the registry entries for testuiplugin, updates the plugin, and closes weather watcher in the background. It's not very elegant right now, because it uses mortscript. Maybe someone can write a standalone exe based on my work.
Here's what it looks like right now. Any ideas to improve the layout ?
I was wondering the same thing as Pudge. It may not look exactly like you've mapped it out in your head...but it looks pretty darn good to me. A .cab would be great, Organic.

One question... This won't somehow change our home layout to the CHome Slim, will it? I like my festively plump slider panels the way they are! lol I just want the weather .cab.

Hey OrganicM, It looks sick but if i could suggest something, then it would be the title, instead of making the "temperature" the title, why not make it My Weather or something along those lines and underneath it - you could make a line for the temperature, upto u - otherwise it looks amazing - Keep up the good work and post a .cab when ur done :)
Good Luck !

I know, that's what I wanted to do initially, but this damn TestUIPlugin, will NOT let me do two lines of text!! Only thing I could do, is append the current temperature at the end of the forecast blurb... But it wouldn't really make it stand out.

Hi OrganicM!
Nice job you done with this app.
I took a look at your cab _setup.xml and I was wondering what needs to be changed to the Chome_320x240.cpr for the app to work, since I prefer my chubby panels and its icons and overall layout (just a matter of taste, you know).
Perhaps you could post a little step by step guide for the ones like me who want to implement it by hand, with the needed files in a single compressed file (zip, rar, your choice really, I've already got them from the cab :D).
Thanks in advance.
Cheers.

If I'm not mistaken, I thought he intended to post the .cab for the "chubby panels" soon anyway. I am on the same page with you, Cassiano. I like my plump panels, but I'd like to install Organic's .cab too. I don't necessarily wanna change anything in my homescreen layout--aside from including the new weather panel.

Just set the plugins as "disabled" right in the registry.
Updated first post again, this time I added a "last updated" time in the top right corner. This gets updated everytime the weather script runs, so you have an idea how recent the info is.

Alright...for some reason it won't allow my city to be displayed when setting up Weather Watcher. It'll take me to a blank IE screen. I made the change to my city in 'Options', like instructed. Then tried to open 'Update Weather'. It would take me back to the blank IE screen. On the homescreen--the weather sliding panel is blank and just has a sun in it. Is there something I'm not doing?

The registry key for each plugin. There's a "Disabled" value for each one. Set it to "1" and it will not show on the homescreen.
Redownload the .cab please and let me know if the issues are fixed. They should be.

So I feel a little stupid, because most of the stuff here makes sense to me, but when I installed the cab, and then restarted my device, no new panel showed up on my home screen, however the program for the weather is certainly on my dash. Is there something I'm missing, some xml'ing I need to do?
Thanks!

I've got a problem. When I had the weather showing in my panel BEFORE I changed to my correct city, it showed an icon next to the weather info inside the panel. Now, that I've changed to Memphis, it works completely correctly, except for the "RED X" icon. I no this to mean that my phone cannot find the picture or something to that extent. Any ideas on how I could fix this?
By the way Super Sweet work on this. I am thoroughly impressed once again.:)

still seems a little buggy to me. If i change anything on my homescreen, (ex: using of the other sliding panels homescreens or just simply reloading the existing one, my phone takes forever trying to make the changes, then all of the chome sliding panels go away. when i reboot the sliding panels are there.... - minus your panel with the weather on it.
I makes it seems like this will work , but will not if you try and mod the homescreen afterwards

Yeah I've noticed that too and I thought it was just my phone. You have to remember that this behaviour is due to the "bugginess" of that CTestUIPanel, not anything I'm doing with the weather info. Right now I'm working on loading the weather app as a background process, so it doesn't popup on the screen every 15 minutes like it does now.
Also, please be gentle. It's only my first shot at it and I think it's a definite step forward. Of course it's going to be buggy, but you guys should know by now that I will work on it until it's perfect.
And again, it's not a %100 Plug and Play solution. I did try to make it run okay on Ricky's latest ROM, which is probably what most people will have. Give me your input on what works and what doesn't and I will try to address all the issues as they come up. I will release updated .cabs for this, that's for sure.

i understand its a work in progress. im excited enough you've gotten this far. really i like hearing that others have similar issues , that way i dont think its just me. i am on kavana's ROM so its not a ROM versioning issue
update: also i think there's a linking problem with one of your .png files. The thunderstorm .png file either doesnt exist or is mis-linked as i have the red "X" now and i am dealing with rain as we speak.. ok... i figured it out. it seems that you've left out a .png in your .cab... there should be a file called " T-Storm.png" in my , my documents folder , but there's not one, and the .cab file doesnt contain this file

Hey again,
So I'm on Kavana's latest ROM, and as far as bugs go, I've downloaded and installed both of your cab files. First I tried the regular (cause I like the chunky panels too) and it added the weather app, but did nothing to my home screen. Then I removed it, and installed the slim version with the same result. Nothing on my hom screen has changed, and I'm not sure, aside from the installing the program and putting the weather icons in "My Documents" if anything else has changed.
That being said, great work, and thanks for taking the time to get this thing fixed up for us. It's an awesome idea, and I think it'll be nice to finally have a little customization over 6.1's home screen.

I've included a T-Storm.png file here for anyone who wants it. Just drop it into the \my documents\WeatherIcons folder

changes:
1.(included the T-Storm.png file, cloudy.png, and rain.png
2.(made the font sizes match the default font sizes of the other sliding panels......although it does create some cutoff after the city/state on the header of the weather panel. but does make the forcast and current weather more readable

can you just create a .script file that will open the watehr program. update the homescreen weather panel then close the weather program. That way all we have to do is create a shortcut to that file and drop it in the start menu. I wouldnt mind running it from the start menu manually.

So I've spent a ton of time trying to figure this out. Are there any steps I'm missing at all:
Install cab to device.
Reboot.
Open Weather program and establish city.
I've tried a couple of times, and nothing is changing on my home screen, nor do I have a home screen option that it like "sliding panel weather" or anything. I'm at a loss, and I really want this to work. I keep going back and forth between the htc home and this one, this one's prettier, but the htc has the weather info so accessible.
Thanks for any help!

I will re release the cabs with ALL the images in them in about an hour. I worked on a different version last night, that updates a "welcome center" style panel instead of testui. I found testui to be very buggy when turned on. The only bad thing about updating a welcome center panel is the fact that the homescreen has to be reloaded to see the new info. That process is automated though, so it's not too bad.

yea there seems to by a butt-load of weather .png files. such as flurries, light snow, snow, heavy snow, blowing snow and windy, windy, just to name a few. The database for images can get quite large since the weather channel has over 100 different current weather conditions and there has to be a .png to match each of the 100 or so weather conditions
the other thing is i think it would be better for you to put the mortscript file in the start menu instead of creating a file in the startup folder, cuz it has the potential to interrupt someone if they are in the middle of using another application and the auto-update happens. I think it would be better to let the user decide when to update the weather data

The weather panel comes up nicely after you softreset after initial installation. Then when you run the updater script, the weather program starts, starts to update then your entire homescreen reloads. As soon as its finished reloading the panel where the weather was, is gone.

I've asked for help twice in this thread already and no one has responded. I am on Kavana's latest ROM and don't have the MyApp program to mod my welcome panels. Am I doing something wrong by assuming that if I install this cab file that I will have a weather panel on my homescreen without me changing anything? or are you guys doing something to create that panel? I know there are problems with it (and thanks you all for spending so much time to create this awesome app) but I'd love someone to either confirm or deny that I'm doing it right? Please? Thanks!

Please? Thanks!
i am running kanava's ROM too. and also i dont have the MyApp program installed either. I just installed the .cab and i got the new sliding panel after soft resetting the device. the only other thing i did was i installed the weather watcher program b-4 installing this .cab .... you can get the free app here: http://www.singerscreations.com/Weather-Watcher-Mobile.asp

Thanks! What home screen do you have your device set to, mine is the NRG top bar media sliding panel one. Maybe it's modifying the xml for a different one?

i have one that i modified that has topbar installed so it's called sliding panel media 2. , but i dont think thats important... if you think it is then load the regular sliding panel homescreen and then reinstall the .cab

Here's a temporary solution while I look into this. Try selecting the "Slinding Panels Media Top Bar" theme in your Settings/Home Screen. I'll look into it. I guess the only way to troubleshoot it is to do a "Clear Storage" on my phone and install the cab from scratch.... Ugh.... :D

That's very important because the "Weather" panel gets called from the .xml that I included in the .cab and that's' "sliding panels media top bar". Try that first. I'll look for a solution to fix this for everybody...

The weather panel comes up nicely after you softreset after initial installation. Then when you run the updater script, the weather program starts, starts to update then your entire homescreen reloads. As soon as its finished reloading the panel where the weather was, is gone.Ater the soft reset the NRG Chome Weather Regular.cab has disappeared from my mobile device................!:confused:

In whatever .xml theme you're using for your homescreen right now, look for the section that lists all the plugins that CHome is supposed to show. You'll see something like "CClock;CWelcomeCenter;CSettings;CMyPrograms; etc etc
Just add ";Weather" in there somewhere, and save the .xml back to the application data/home directory. Reload the homescreen and you should be fine.

ok. nrg. i used your homescreen and installed the cab. it was ok after the reboot, and i even updated the weather, once. but i hadn,t changed the city yet, so it was still set to las vegas. that update worked. the moment i changed the city and updated it again thats when the weather panel slide went away.

it's located in ... HKCR-->cabfile-->shell-->Open-->Command--> then the default key normally reads: wceload.exe "%1" \nodelete
but if it reads only: wceload.exe "%1" without the \nodelete, then it will auto-delete .cabs after they are installed. which i prefer.

No problem. Check this out. Go to your registry. The two places where it talks about CHome, insert in the page order, the weather page's name. Put it where you want it to go. It's that easy. It happened to me too. No problem for this fix.:D

Hey OrganicM, Great Job! Working great on my blackjack. On the disappearing weather panel, all I had to did was open them .home.xml and add:
<Plugins Order = "Weather;(+add all your other panels here)" />
The topbar xml in the no au cab didn't have this line and since I added it it's worked ok for me. I also changed the ACTIONURL to call weatherwatcher.exe so that I can view detailed forecasts and maps. I also removed the current temp from titletext because it's also displayed below. The weatherwatcher program kept flashing on/off while downloading data (which bothered me) so I removed the display lines from mscr so that weatherwatcher stays on while the loading/parsing screen until finished, then reloads and returns to homescreen. Once again, awesome plugin!

Ok, I added the "wheater" item to my Chome pannels in my homescreen xml and now it's back!
But now I've got another issue: the home screen pannel only shows the temp in Farenheit (F) and I need Celsius (C) degrees, because I'm a metric system user and have no clue about the Farenheit scale....
BTW, I successfully changed the city to mine (porto alegre, brasil - BRXX0186).
Is it just me or is everybody else getting the same?
Thanks in advance.
Cheers!

well i've done everything i can think of........ it works after reload, works on first update with the las vegas city, i change city and its gone!
i've added weather into my homescreens. XML in the plugins section. Ive gone to both of the chome locations in the registry, i even edited the .cab file and made the default city, my city instead of las vegas, hell i even checked to make sure the disabled option still had a value of "0" and still nothing. I've even done a soft reset too. Now i'm starting to feel like a noob. Any ideas on what might be wrong?
just a question, what role does facade helper play in this?

Alright guys.. well here's a neat trick. In your homescreen .xml file (which ever one you're using) go in and delete ALL the references to the Chome panels. For the neewbies here's a more detailed explanation.. Look for this section of code in your XML file:
<plugin clsid="{E9267CAB-02EE-4f37-8216-6BF6A8FF5A71}" name="Bronze" height="266">
<Plugins Order="CClock;CHome;CRadio;CAppointments;CMyApplication;C PhotoDialer;Settings"/>
</plugin>
Edit the .xml file and just remove the Plugin Order= section!
<plugin clsid="{E9267CAB-02EE-4f37-8216-6BF6A8FF5A71}" name="Bronze" height="266">
</plugin>
So it looks like the example above.
This is how it's done in RickWyatt's latest ROMs, so I kind of assumed most people would been running that, I guess not... :D
If you DO remove the section I'm talking about, Chome will rely on the order specified in the registry under HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Chome and HKLM/Security/Chome respectively under the "Plugins" key.
On a different note, I will release yet ANOTHER version tonight that will solely rely on mortscript to pull weather data, and not even have to deal with weather watcher. I hate that it doesn't have a background mode (I can't hide it properly) and that it doesn't auto update. Until then, I'm off to dinner.... :)

Facadehelper.exe gets called by my script to reload the homescreen after an update, so that you can see the changes on the panel :)

Gotta question for Organic or anyone that might have a little info to share. Once I installed this, I started getting error messages when I restart my phone. I am running Rick's v22 ROM, and I"m wondering if this cpr file is making my phone unstable.
What I'm seeing are " error locating target file" and once or twice I have seen a multitude of errors like error cannot load "replog.exe, calc.exe, etc."
Anyone?

Organic: Once you get the bugs out, are you going to go ahead and make the other pages with forecast for more days? Maybe even a page with radar image, I know it would be really small but it could link to web page for radar for better viewing?

Unfortunately Mortscript can't reload the homescreen. RedrawToday only works for PPC, like you said.
My previous version used the CTestUIPlugin, but it proved to be too buggy :(
The next version I do, I will try to code in visual studio as a native application, to eliminate mortscript altogether :) And yes, I do plan to populate the other pages with extended forecasts for additional days, maybe even additional cities.
I just wanted to release this the way it is, have you guys test it on several devices to get a feel for all the bugs in it :) It works perfectly on my phone... bu t that's not true for everybody else, obviously :)

I've done this, i didnt work when I changed the units on Weather Watcher so I went into the mortscript weather.mscr code and changed the registry references , as they are hard coded to read the F value.
This is what resides currently..
tTemp=RegRead ("HKCU", "Software\Weather Watcher\Current","Temp")
And for Celcius it needs to be..
tTemp=RegRead ("HKCU", "Software\Weather Watcher\Current","TempC")
There is also a Celcius description reference but there is an error in the code from weather watcher so your stuck with the Farenheight description for now.. unless the developer has any insights.

it seems that you've left out a .png in your .cab... there should be a file called " T-Storm.png" in my , my documents folder , but there's not one, and the .cab file doesnt contain this file
I've included a T-Storm.png file here for anyone who wants it. Just drop it into the \my documents\WeatherIcons folder
edit: i've also included organics .cab file with some minor changes.
changes:
1.(included the T-Storm.png file, cloudy.png, and rain.png
2.(made the font sizes match the default font sizes of the other sliding panels......although it does create some cutoff after the city/state on the header of the weather panel. but does make the forcast and current weather more readable
I reinstalled with your cab. before didnt give option where to install. but now on panel i get only
Title text
Line 1 text
and an icon of sun when I click nothing. App opens from start menu but not on chome any ideas

not sure whats happening therem , but what you might try and do is to change your homescren to a non chome(non slider) homescreen b-4 uninstalling it. It may be that since the homescreen is still active its unable to remove certain components
