dude, we could do with a higher resolution image:)
anyway it seems to be some sort of contact, not a dial or switch, so it can't adjust anything...
although I'm not sure about the internal workings. also, this seems to be the screen diassembled, but I can't really make out anything else from the images. Maybe someone at home can disassemble their devices to get a better look;)
