This way you help further development of this application.

Description :

This program brings you a 3D cube which will be used to switch/rotate between running programs.
This will be useful if you assign a hardware button to it.Currently program dont do that automatically!
Use Settings->Personal->Buttons to do that.(assign it to '3D AltTab Switcher').

You can also customize your animation effects from settings,and also animation speed.
If program doesnt show animation either you are low on memory or you have to manually assign a Graphic engine(like GAPI or DirectX) to program.(from settings)


For gaining Startup speed of program,use make resident and also start server.
this way animation starts a bit faster!

--------- If you think yourself as an advanced user read this ---------------

Program also includes a server program.Which normally you can run it from program's settings.
The main purpose of this sever is to make animation smoother.
This server also prevent some black and bad/garbage windows during animation which you will get sometimes if you are not running this server.

This server will remain resident in memory(only 7kb)and takes snapshot of programs whenever you close them.
So the only speed penalty is when you click X button(and only this way),and no memory footprint.
Program saves screenshots of programs as bitmap files(.bmp) into a location where you installed this program.(Memory or Storage Card).
So if you do a lot multitasking(and also keep them open) it will consume your disk space.
Each screenshot is normally around 200kb.So if you have more than 3mg of free space in your storage card or internal storage you are safe!(it can accommodate more than 10 screenshots which you never open that much programs!).
Note that program only keep screenshots of current running applications so whenever you close one,you actually free screenshot and space from your memory/storage card.
Program also dont take screenshots when you reach storage space below around 1mg.
Because this server uses lots of undocumented APIs it MIGHT hang or ruin or DESTROY your device.So beware!(although it is unlikely).

Server also doesnt start automatically with windows.You have to run it by Program settings or put it into startup folder(file name is 3daltserver.exe).(which i did myself).

Anyway from users experiences running server all the time in background is safe and no harms so far has been reported.
So all this warning after more tests in next version will be removed.


NEVER EVER UNINSTALL PROGRAM WHILE SERVER IS RUNNING.
Future versions will prevent this but for now dont even think about doing that!

well.. it works wonderfully on my wizard.. it's a bit slow but considering it's a 195Mhz and i'm running other programs as well.. it's really really great. i'm all in for putting it as a built in task manager in my PPC.. and i'm getting my new polaris tomorrow and itll certainly be on it. thank you very much.

Seems to be working OK on a Sprint Mogul (HTC Titan). Mapped it to a hardware key, and it is switching like it should. I did get one device freeze immediately after mapping it to a hardware key and activating it. Some programs in particular (Internet Sharing and WMWiFiRouter so far)seem to always show a black screen when rotating. Mainly sounds like bugs you already know about. Can't wait to see where this goes.

Great idea. I have a big interest in this, especially if it's just a Vista style interface where I could keep pressing the button to cycle through the running apps. I'd also like to see the ability to NOT show certain apps, like ActiveSync.

Great app, I don't open several apps at a time very often, but installed it to test and report.

Running on a Hermes with PDA Viet ROM. After installing it and mapping a hardware key, my device froze, but after rebooting it began working like a charm, lags a little at first, but it definitely looks promising.

Implementation:
Consider taking a screenshot of the running application when you set it to switch application and cache it. That way, if you come back to the old running application, you will have its current state always and just have to make the slide with the image and not the forms. That would take care of the bugs we notice so far and improve performance. As far as I know, that's how the iPhone works, giving us that fluid animation between apps.

Animation is smooth on Artemis - 200MHz, only inconveniences are the ones you've already mentioned - slow startup, no startmenubar for next window, and some windows look bad during animation.

maybe an option to hide it from the taskmanager? if you use wktask it shows a "3D" tab on the taskbar as you're flipping apps. would be nice if the bar didn't appear at all. app should be hidden imo.

Works fine on my Wizard running its right's latest TNT WM6.1. The Cube is sluggish at 195MHz but zooms like crazy when over clock to 260Mhz, I think it was faster than the video showing it on the Kaiser... The 1 second plus delay is still there though after button activation, although its residing in memory.
How do we get rid of this delay? It feels like the delay on the HTC Diamond when you swipe the screen and then the screen slides...
Any chance of it cycling through the today screen as well?

Finally figured out how to use AEBPlus, so now I can use the volume slide to activate the app. Very cool. Would love to speed up the animation a tad. As I said before, very cool.

I have the same problem on my Apache running WM6.1 ROM. It only switches between the Dialer and Call History. I will not bring up any other programs I have running. It runs smoothly though with no other problems.

Nice idea, but the concept needs work I think. Currently it only cycles through screens one at a time. What really ought to be an option is to select which screen you want to go to rather than having to cycle through until you find it. Also, as someone mentioned the ability to exclude programs would be nice.

That's a very good idea. If you can do 2 exe, or 1 exe with arguments to allow for backward compatible. That would be perfect.
Adjustable speed will also be good, but either way I'll be using this app.

if instead of a wholescreen cube you made it a small cube in the middle of the screen and you could alttab using a hardware button and you can choose between screens and then pick the one you like... it'll consume less memory while switching.. thanks to it being a lot smaller... and will be very very useful.

It works on my i780 (320x320 screen). Before I did a soft reset it would only switch between phone app and call screen, after it works ok. It does have a bug: When it's doing the animation the screen seems to "zoom out" a bit, then do the animation and then zoom in again. I'll see if I can get a screenshot.

I think that'd be the way to go with this, really. There are only a couple ways that I think are viable, because selecting the program you want to go to rather than just switching sequentially is fairly important.

A) Panels the way Dynamo 2 works now.

B) Coverflow (or maybe cube) with programs on the bottom and a larger screenshot of each in the middle.

c) The Vista 3D task manager.

Hi, it works great on my tmobile wing. It switches between all the programs running but as showed in the video by someone, it does not shows the today screen. And after loading the screen it flickers for a moment though. Still great and looking forward for next release.:)

Update: Works pretty well on my Sprint HTC Touch for an Alpha version. I've loaded FLTouch so I can activate it with a finger gesture and it's awesome.

Once you clean up the code and make it run faster and rotate the other way, you can add new features like the ability for users to lock specific apps to different sides of the cube (I'd set up Side 1 with Pointui. Side 2 would be my phone. Side 3 would be Email... and so on).

This could be HUGE.

Anyone who likes this app should try DESKSPACE from Otaku Software... same thing but for the windows PC.

Initally worked fine on my JASJAM but then it drops the home screen, requiring that the active application has to be minimized to use my Home screen Launcher (UL).

Some full-screen programs like google navigator & Opera Mini don't switch properly (suspected way they use their memory). Although the other programs appear to be active, clicking on them returns the full screen program from behind. Further investigation reveals that the banner although displaying the next program, reverts to the first program when clicked. This appears to be happening with almost all programs that are switched to.

Had one occasion where it would only switch between Phone applications although there were other apps running - strange as I can't replicate it now.

I hope you pursue these hicups & refine it as I believe your program has real potential!. I'll certainly use it

Go for this one then - its a perfect piece of software that:


- intercept almost any standard button: application buttons, WM5 SoftKeys, Volume slider, Action and even Red/Green phone buttons
- distinguish up to 4 different keypress events on each button grabbed (single, double, triple and "long" keypresses).
- remap each of the keypress events to "virtual" application button or assign them directly to one of the wide set of built-in actions.

Known Bugs:

Well,i really hate publishing programs with too many known bugs,but the reason is it was much much more complicated than what i was expected.But i almost know solution for most of them,and it will require on what you want.

Startup being slow can be fixed by residenting program in memory,which will take something about 300-400kb of memory.
Also some windows look bad can be fixed by residenting program in memory and working in background,which depending on program settings and how many open applications will slow down system and consume more memory!

Current solution is not memory resident(which is what i like about it).So,if becoming slow(1~10%) and memory consumption is not a problem i can change current framework.
and probabley will work on many more devices,as i expect this program to crash on some devices!

same here on my Tilt, but after a soft reset it works just fine. I'm using L26 Rom and switching between calendar, contacts, resco explorer,mail and pocket player. Speed is good, not great, but good.I mapped the app to the PTT button and is really comfortable

I´ve installed ftouchflo 1.4, disabled all scrolling and asigned left-to-right gesture to 3dalttab (in config-file). I agree that it could load a bit faster.
And yes, a finger-friendly way to close applications would make a 26" life easyer.

But.... Slowly... And show apps where I can't see at HTC TaskManager and apps where I can't close (Like Phone, Programs, Active Sync, ETC..)
MAke it speeder, add options (exceptions (disable for, non display xxx program...), gestures, (for example - right - next app, left - previous app), settiongs style (cube, blind, etc....), and others.....)
Where you do that, you are gonna to I love his program :)

very cool! this is a must have for those that consistently run multiple apps simultaneously.

i have found one slight bug though....sometimes the top Windows task bar disappears after rotation and is not redrawn so the Start menu is not clickable. i have found that this happens mainly when one of the apps running in the background is a fullscreen app (PocketCM did it for me).

v 0.3 & v 0.2a both do not work

i do not have v 0.1 & its not in the first post ... so i did not test it


the steps i followed is that i installed v 0.3 cab,,,, ran the 3D setting and activated the server...then assigned a hard button to the 3d switcher

when i click the switcher or its hard button i see a flicker on right top corner and see the X "close" briefly...but no rotation or animation
later when i check the program files, i see a temp folder with the captured images inside ... so i am guessing it works to a certain step then the animation is not functioning after that step

I agree with you, but you can use the OK key to go back down the deck. So basically this app to go forward in style, and the OK key to go back (with much less style obviously).

I've just installed it on my new HTC Touch Diamond. With server enabled it seems to be working, however performance is ratter sluggish. 8-9 fps during the cubic animation. drawing engine choice (gapi,fb,dd) seems to make no difference.

Works great on my SCH-i760. The animations is a bit buggy, but still works great! Very, very good idea for a program. Just found one little bug, however. When I have Pocket CM open it shows the Pocket CM header bar whenever I switch programs.

i reported earlier that v0.3 did NOT work
but not 0.4 WORKS great...nice animation in all modes & i did not need to adjust anything in setting..just installed & was good to go....

the only thing i noticed is a Top Bar issue
see pic below
after screen rotates, it rotates everything except top bar ..it keeps showing part of spb mobile shell in background
the problem is that sometimes you need that top bar for that screen to manage sone things (like confirming by clicking OK..etc)
please try to fix that top bar issue...i saw that some others commented with similar issue in pocketcm too

BUT, the program does work, i have to go the appswitcher exe file to make it. I tried switching themes as well.

IT DOES WORK, only the exe file works. So i'm just going to rehack my registry and add a new menu for it and route it to the .exe... This way I can select it from my menus and then I'll see what happens.


UPDATED - PROBLEM FIX
IF You have been having the same problem and own a Shadow, there is A VERY SIMPLE FIX:
1 - Download the shortcut key rebuild (It just puts every application you have installed in the list)
2 - Run it ON your device (It must be run from your device)
3 - Go to Start > Settings > Shortcut Keys
4 - Choose either "Short press" or "Press and hold"
5 - Locate in the list 3D AltTab Switcher
6 - Hit Done

AND THAT'S IT!

You may not be able to select the settings/transitions/effects but atleast it works and looks pretty cool BTW!

I will be working on some way to get the settings to work.

Works very well on my htc prophet (Overclocked) the new features have doubled the frame rate, just had to mess with the animation speed and go through the Drawing engine i found that GAPI works for me and i have now set the server to run from statup thanks so much :)
I have also linked the commsmanager button to start 3D AltTab Switcher.exe

Is it possible to make like a selection box? Like when you activate the 3d you pick the program you want to run from a selection box kind of like the WINDOW+TAB key or the SPB Pocket AltTab and then animate teh switch? That would make the program a little easier to use mulitple programs with.

Very nice program.. two glitches.. sometimes..if a call is answered it stays on the phone menu after you press the assigned button.. and then the top space where the batt, the time & task bar reflect become black.. have to restart after that to get it working, normally.. If the author of this program would kindly rectify this bug, this is something worth showing off and also worth donating to.. Its nice to have two toch flo's working on my hTC touch.. one from the bottom and one from the side.. Nice..Mr roozbeh.. please let me know if im doing something dumb!!

Maybe I have an idea for you:
When you close your active window with the ok/close button and activate 3D AltTab again, 3D AltTab activates not the last minimized window. I'll give an example:

1) activate the program/server etc.
2) open File Explorer --> minimize it.
3) open Media Player --> minimize it.
4) 3D AltTab --> activates File Explorer.
5) 3D AltTab --> activates Media Player.

But what I like is when it opens the last minimized window.
So, actually what I want is that 3D AltTab activates windows in order of minimalisation. (I hope I explained it right ^^)

unfortunately not playing nicely on my dell axim x50v.
the windows are upside down when transitioning.
after testing it a few times using gapi it maximized file explorer once every so often (so there was no taskbar).
i had that same problem developing my iphone slider app and fixed it..
will get back to you if i remember the fix. (but it was found by googling around wm codebase sites anyway)

i dont know if its a bug, but the programs folder and call window always show up which is unrequired, is it a bug or is it meant to be?
i mean ideally the minimized windows and the today screen are the ones between which should be switched?
there is delay of ~700-800ms between the initialization and execution, does everyone have this or is this only in my case

also the server and/or resident options make no difference at all in quality of graphics or start up time

some suggestions for the next version


1) parameter controls for next program and previous program
(example- using gestures in ftouchflo left to right for next and right to left for prev.. or something on those line)

2) something to do with the ~700ms delay after the running of the program?

3) adding an option to include a list of program exceptions manually

Just wanted to let you know that so far this has worked great on my ATT Tilt. But I do have one problem/question that I didnt see addressed. When in landscape mode, the screen still wants to rotate as if the phone was closed. At first it was cutting the screen in half, reverting the top half to a squished version of the entire screen in nonlandscape mode, and then rotating the top squished portion the standard closed way. Now once its done it does reload the next screen so in essence it still works, its just not as pleasing to the eye.I did start the server per earlier posts and put the setting on resident which in turn stoped the screen from being cut in half, but what its doing now is squishing the screen by aboult half as before, moving it to the middle of the screen and continues to do the same from that point. I wonder if there is a tweek in the settings that can fix this but I dont want to risk messing up what seems to be a very decent program. Look foward to your further work and thanks again for such a great program.:)

Description :

This program brings you a 3D cube which will be used to switch/rotate between running programs.
This will be useful if you assign a hardware button to it.Currently program dont do that automatically!
Use Settings->Personal->Buttons to do that.(assign it to '3D AltTab Switcher').

You can also customize your animation effects from settings,and also animation speed.
If program doesnt show animation either you are low on memory or you have to manually assign a Graphic engine(like GAPI or DirectX) to program.(from settings)


For gaining Startup speed of program,use make resident and also start server.
this way animation starts a bit faster!

Program also includes a server program.Which normally you can run it from program's settings.
The main purpose of this sever is to make animation smoother.
This server also prevent some black and bad/garbage windows during animation which you will get sometimes if you are not running this server.

This server will remain resident in memory(only 7kb)and takes snapshot of programs whenever you close them.
So the only speed penalty is when you click X button(and only this way),and no memory footprint.
Program saves screenshots of programs as bitmap files(.bmp) into a location where you installed this program.(Memory or Storage Card).
So if you do a lot multitasking(and also keep them open) it will consume your disk space.
Each screenshot is normally around 200kb.So if you have more than 3mg of free space in your storage card or internal storage you are safe!(it can accommodate more than 10 screenshots which you never open that much programs!).
Note that program only keep screenshots of current running applications so whenever you close one,you actually free screenshot and space from your memory/storage card.
Program also dont take screenshots when you reach storage space below around 1mg.
Because this server uses lots of undocumented APIs it MIGHT hang or ruin or DESTROY your device.So beware!(although it is unlikely).

Server also doesnt start automatically with windows.You have to run it by Program settings or put it into startup folder(file name is 3daltserver.exe).(which i did myself).

Anyway from users experiences running server all the time in background is safe and no harms so far has been reported.
So all this warning after more tests in next version will be removed.


NEVER EVER UNINSTALL PROGRAM WHILE SERVER IS RUNNING.
Future versions will prevent this but for now dont even think about doing that!

Very nice program. There is a displaying problem on my Glofiish M800. Best to see on this Video: http://dbl76.tfh-berlin.de/~s16997/tab.avi (DivX). It is a VGA Defice with a Samsung 500MHz Porcessor and 64MB Ram 256MB Rom. There should be enougth Ram and Rom available. The Screenshoots in the Programm directory are correct.

Same for me, first it cycles through the open tasks and then stucks on M2D. Too bad as it is a nice task switcher.

As an improvement it would be nice if it would switch by finger swipe. I have only 1 hardware button on my HTC touch and it usually taken by the camera.

I made a simple little app for my Touch Diamond. It waits till the diamond is face up and then when I tilt it towards landscape(towards my left) it runs your app. So it looks as if the app switch is happening because of gravity! =P

Now, I dont really understand why you have a server? I just run the 3dalttab.exe and it works fine? Does the server boost performance?

Previous/Next control would be nice. Like, if I tilt the diamond (while its face up) left it would go to the next app and right would go previous, maybe you could just make a command line option?

Lastly, could you please direct me to how to make a cube with my on picture on each side? There are only basic tutorials on how to make cubes, how do I get my own picture on each side, much like your app. (I dont know anything when it comes to DirectX)

Thanks for the great software, version 0.4 run under my Axim X51v, nice animation. The mode makes no difference. The Start menu bar disappears after each movement, and the screen flickers. To have the start menu back I need t star any other app. :)
