No, I fell asleep while flashing that last flash. LOL. I woke up to a working device, though! I've fixed almost every issue except for a few I broke this morning while trying to auto setup my proxy package and I'm still waiting on that today screen.

The WM format (OEM/SYS) is universal, and the OEMDrivers OEM pack should be the only thing dependent on your device. I'm applying everything here to the Prophet :D

One thing to note, the final packaging up of the ROM is different for different devices... The kaiser uses ruu_signed.nbh files, the prophet uses nk.nbf files...... That part will be device specific, but the rest (and the techniques/ideas) shouldn't be.

I have a Tornado kitchen with all files extracted. It's WM6 ROM. I have an nk.nbf for WM6.1 which I am trying to extract to the kitchen and merge them. The fact is that I want the WM6.1 ROM and merge quality apps/tweaks from WM6.

You'll want to port the XIP which can be done using Ivans own tool, EasyPortOven 2.2! The XIP contains the WM6.1 part (not sure what to call it here) along with the SYS folder. The OEM folder is the device specific bit, and contains all the device specific drivers.

One thing, I'm not sure if Ivan has Typhoon support for his EasyPortOven... If not, he'll need some files from your ROM dump to add support!

hehe i made a rom based off your latest rom but its for personal use...cause i didnt ask u for permission yet hehe...but its a nice looking rom if i had the program to take screenshots i wouldve shown u...but i got a splash screen to show off...oh yeah since i used your rom i kept the "ITs" in the name...ITs Life

The trick with that though, is to rebuild the ROM using some stock *.dsm files, and then dump it again :D

When I was working on some of the Diamond packages, pappamopps was getting annoyed at having to flash the ROM again and again for every small change :D

That looks awesome! Now upload the ROM so I can port it to the prophet!

Or i'll just flash it straight on anyway... Worked with a wizard ROM :D But not so well with a kaiser ROM :(

Assembler havent done that even longer than basic ..... Havent programmed in many many years ..... Have used cobal , fortran , assembly , machine code , basic , pascal, c and all the pluses ... LOL

To be honest you are correct but I do so much dot realy have time for allthat yet .. Too many roms to test .... Will start that when I catch up ..... Need to cover most if not all the roms by end of next month .....

Hopefully will get another phone and cover another whole set ..... To me this is fun so I will get as many phones to cover all for the people.....

A: It's the kernel of the ROM.

Q: What is the SYS folder?
A: It's where all the new apps included in each Windows Mobile release are stored.

A: First, rest assured. Your phone is not bricked. See THIS (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=345411) thread on how to unbrick your phone. Secondly, refer to Q&A #4.

Q: This is too complicated... but I still want to port my own ROM. What should I do?
A: Easy. Use my EasyPortOven (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2139575#post2139575) and the process will be automated.

Q: Where do I get the latest SYS folders? XIP's?
A: I don't know... Your guess is as good as mine. I just download Kaiser ROM's that have them since they tend to have the latest and greatest first. Do NOT PM me asking me where to find them.




This is a direct copy and paste of my other guide. With some ROMs, like the one from the last lesson, you will have to also change the DPI of the ROM. For now, just copying the DPI folders from a good WM6.1 ROM with matching DPI will do. Technically, the process is much more complicated...

Rebuilding the ROM is not the hard part. That will come later when I teach you how to change the ROM itself.

For now:

Take your SYS and ROM folders from Lesson 5 and your OEM folder from lesson 2 and place them into the Working_Folder.
Now run BuildNB.bat and follow the instructions.
I know that this lesson is not at nicely laid out as my other lessons, but it was a little bit rushed.

Converting never works for me either. You have to get a base that is all modules already. I'm not 100% sure how to fix it, so this is really just a cheap work around.

Q&A

Q: What is the XIP?
A: It's the kernel of the ROM.

Q: What is the SYS folder?
A: It's where all the new apps included in each Windows Mobile release are stored.

A: First, rest assured. Your phone is not bricked. See THIS (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=345411) thread on how to unbrick your phone. Secondly, refer to Q&A #4.

Q: This is too complicated... but I still want to port my own ROM. What should I do?
A: Easy. Use my EasyPortOven (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2139575#post2139575) and the process will be automated.

Q: Where do I get the latest SYS folders? XIP's?
A: I don't know... Your guess is as good as mine. I just download Kaiser ROM's that have them since they tend to have the latest and greatest first. Do NOT PM me asking me where to find them.




This is a direct copy and paste of my other guide. With some ROMs, like the one from the last lesson, you will have to also change the DPI of the ROM. For now, just copying the DPI folders from a good WM6.1 ROM with matching DPI will do. Technically, the process is much more complicated...

Sorry for the confusion. The Old SYS folder is the one that came out of the stock ROM that you took the OEM from. The New SYS is the one you are trying to port.

I've just noticed that if I extract a XIP from an OS.nb, and then use dumprom to dump it, I always get files (rather than modules) but if I use XIP port, and turn it into packages, I always get modules...

Could this be the cause of some problems with XIP porting?

I might repost this whole kitchen, but this time make it a thread that only I can post in and make this the question and answer thread. The reason is that I feel like starting a new ROM from scratch with a goal of getting 80MB free... no promises, though. I just figured that I might as well chronicle the voyage and it would serve as a class.

that would be good in one sense but bad in another...since we all have started this one and stopped at your latest lesson which is 6...its going to leave us with an incomplete rom.

I say wrap this one up first than do the other one...i dont just my opinion.

No, I will be copying the first 6 lessons. It will just be a continuation of this. Except that I will not be using the same ROM base as you guys. Besides, practice makes perfect. For every ROM you release, you will create 4 or 5 on average. :p

I have cooked a ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=420396) and now I want to improve this ROM by removing the rgu and unnecessary files. Any help would be much appreciated. (Had serach for answers but couldnt find any or I may have missed it)

AutoShorcut can be removed straight off... Just delete the OEM pack.

The provXML files that setup autoshortcut (the ones in every RAPHAEL_PACKAGE... OEM pack) have to have the data transfered either into initflashfiles.txt, or into initflashfiles.dat.

Oh, and I'm getting married in 5 weeks and have to start moving in two weeks.... sooooooo, not any time soon... I'm stressed out, tired and just flat out exhausted.

If I can be bothered in the future, I might write a startup program that handles the initflashfiles, autorun and maybe even replaces UC, and if I can get it to work, delete files/change file attributes (the rest I have working crudely, and slowly)...

Yes I know and I have read them all and it is why I know where you are from and most of everyone else and all sorts of facts about you all that I really did not need to know at this point (oh and I am not being a dick in any way by saying that). I was not asking for help just saying that it would be easy if everything was in order. So much I could say on this but it's not the place; I just think it would cut down on the same posts over and over again I had to go thru to get to what I needed. Although it did help me to see who to actually watch and who actually helps, who is friendly and etc.
