I've been using it for two weeks and I love this little machine!

However, I sometimes find it quite slow (I usually open two apps at the same time) and turn on Wi-fi and GPRS.

Anybody can share your experience on how to optimize your Shift / Vista?

sure, one of the plans of shift project is to collect shift specific and also non specific tweaks to vista
I'm still on my little holiday but ltxda is looking into that

here's some generic ones though common sense will already tell you, but just in case:

- disable stupid services - though HTC already did some of that work, still worth checking that out. funny thing here: shagctrl relies on windows audio so leave those services alone.
- disable window animations, the vista theme itself doesn't require much resources but any kind of animation and other vista fluff will have a serious impact on GUI performance.
- disable any other features in control panel that you don't need. I heartily recommend you check out all advanced settings too :p
- remove all useless tray icons and startup services / other startup apps
- use apps that are light on resources - my preferred email and IM clients are such programs, also opera is a bit faster than the default IE7... definitely faster than firefox 2 (sorry).

that way I get 500MB free ram easily and near 3 hours on battery with some wifi usage.

ofcourse the ultimate optimization is ... snapvue :)

Hi Cmonex,

500mb of RAM free eh? i'd love that... best i've got is about 400mb... is there any chance you could embellish the above a bit more and give us a bit more detail of what you did please?

Thanks!

- disable stupid services -

The chalence there for me is that I have no idea what service I need an witch I don't. I am clueless about what exactly they do...
Could you list the ones that you disabled? and what they normaly do?

Check here - http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=513758
for a very useful post on which services do what, and whether they are safe to disable.

Just for info, I found that by typing 'disable vista services' into Google.
Google really is your best friend.
Lots of people I know think that I know everything about computers - I don't (yet :p) but I do know that Google knows all. All you need to know is how to ask the question.
There is an excellent tutorial on getting the best from Google here. (http://www.googleguide.com/)

note - I'm not having a dig at anyone with this post, just thought some might find the info useful.
