View Full Version : *Updated* HTC Weather Patch Not Working? Try This.

As many of you know, there are a few roms which do not allow some of use to use the n2a weather patch. For me it caused endless rebooting of my phone until i was forced to do a hard reset. I managed to find a way to get around it, so i thought i'd share it for any others in the same boat as me.

Okay, here's what i did, and i have a working HTC home w/ working weather:

1) Disable HTC Home from today screen
2) Unzip the attached file, then copy it to the windows directory
3) Soft Reset
4) Enabled HTC Home

No more constant restarting, and the weather updates correctly. Please let me know if this works for others.

**Edit**
If you cannot overwrite HTChome.dll, then use use totalcommander or some other file explorer and rename the existing one HTChome.old, and then copy the new file to the windows folder and soft reset, should work like a charm.

Update:
I have uploaded a new version of htchome.dll which should not cause you to lose the backlight shortcut in the launcher. Please test it out, and let me know if there are any new problems related to this file, as i am not having any myself.

http://www.4shared.com/file/54303305/b583f94/HTCHome.html

another workaround:

Credit to Brynwall for the following updates/workarounds:

Can't copy file:

1. Create a folder in the main directory (call it what-you-will).

2. Copy your new HTCHome.dll file to that directory.

3.Go to the Windows folder and copy the HTCHome.dll.0409.mui file to your new folder.

4. Use a REGEDIT program and go to HKLM > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Today > Items > HTC Home

5. Change the location for the HTCHome.dll file to your new folder.

6. Done!!!!

Weather won't download via edge or 3g:

For those of you still having problems with the weather plug-in here is another thing I did to fix it:

1. Go to Settings - Connections - Connections - Advanced - Select Networks - Edit (MEdia Net) - Proxy Settings -> UNCHECK BOTH OPTIONS

2. Soft Reset

It should work fine

Adding Cities to Custom Database

To create a customized database of cities use HTC Home Customizer, which can be downloaded from many locations on this site, or from my 4shared folder. Perform the following steps:

1) Make sure you have copied the patched htchome.dll file as instructed in the first post.

2) I am not sure it's necessary, but i usually disable the HTC Home plugin when making the changes.

3) Open HTC Home and navigate to the weather tab.

4) From the drop-down menu entitled "database type" select "custom"

5) Click "Enter New City" and then enter the relevant data for your city.

6) Click "Save City to Custom Database"

7) Repeat steps 4 & 5 for as many cities as you would like to add.

8) Click and "save" and then enable the HTC Home Plugin again.

9) Your weather tab should now display your customized list of cities.

If the above steps don't work, then try the steps provided below:
Provided by jpcrailjr

Here is a method to get HTC Home Customizer and the HTCHome.dll to play nicely together on an AT&T Tilt running stock 6.1 with no bloatware installed. You must to a hard reset to get this to work so the appropriate back up warnings apply!

This method is courtesy of tbraun on the AT&T forum.

You will need:
a. tcmdpocketarm (attached below)
b. HHCv10b5 (attached below)
c. HTCHome.dll (attached below).

Here's the steps:

Install all programs to the device using File Explorer to find and click on the cabs.

1. Do a Hard Reset and use appropriate techniques to ensure the AT&T bloatware was not installed.
2. Install TCM Total Commander (You can use any other program that will let you edit/move .dll files and install it here.)
3. Soft Reset
4. Install HTC Home Customizer 10b5 (Do not use 1.0 Final!)
5. Soft Reset
6. Used TCM Total Commander (Or what ever program you installed.) to rename HTCHome.dll to HTCHome.old in the Windows directory on the phone.
7. Used TCM Total Commander (Or what ever program you installed.) to move HTCHome .dll from your storage card to the Windows directory.
8. Soft reset the phone. (I had to do this twice. The first time HTC Home did not load. On the second soft reset the phone asked me if I wanted to install HTCHome.dll and I said yes. and HTC Home loaded.)

At this point, you should be able to both use HHC to edit appearance and customize weather following the steps above.

Again, major thanks to tbraun on the AT&T forum for coming up with the basic method. The hard reset is required because the AT&T 6.1 ROM version of HTC Home seems to need these items installed in this order to work. I'd tried various other orders and this one without a hard reset and HTC Home Customizer would only do one thing, or the other, appearances or weather.

how can I load this file if my phone keeps rebooting even with a soft reset?
I have a window of 5 seconds to load the file before it reboots but it wont let me copy the file. Access denied. Probably in use? Any other ideas?

Sorry, it was a typo, i had to do a hard reset. Then i did these steps after my device was setup again. Just do not run the cab file that causes the constant rebooting problem.

Did you perform a hard reset? Once you are in the constant reboot cycle you will have to perform a hard reset so that you phone will load normally. Then you can disable htc home, and then copy the file into the windows directory. You will have to overwrite the one that is there already. Do not install the cab file fix that was causing the rebooting problem. If this isn't addressing your issues then maybe i'm not understanding you. Please explain in more detail and i'll see if i can help.

1. disable HTChome plug-in from today screen
2. remove read-only from HTChome.dll using resco explorer or total commander
3. copied new HTChome.dll from storage card or any other folder and copy->move to and overwrite in /Windows using resco or total commander.

No more rebooting and Local weather works. YAY! :D

OK. I have selected my city from the list that came with the HTC Weather but after few days it locks on the "Attemping to download data".

Am I having the same issue or I´m having a different problem (I'm using an city that was in the original HTC list). Since I' m not using a custom city will this DLL solve my problem too?

Thanks

I think it should, but nobody in your situation has tried it yet. If you're up to it you could give it a try and let us know. To my knowledge all this does is change the server it's pulling the information from...at least that is my understanding.

After flashing the same ROM and making the same adjustments to the HTC Weather plugin my phone now locks up completely on boot and the only way I can get it to not reset is to pull the SIM card - and then I can't connect through ActiveSync- I do plan on reviewing the forums as soon as I can but if anyone has suggestions on how to correct I would appreciate -

Sorry for the slow reply, i guess i should check my own thread more often :) So you're saying that you only copied the htchome.dll file into the windows folder and now you can't boot? I'm not sure what would casue this. Nobody else has mentioned it to me. Please give me some more information. If you're just wanting to put a new flash then hold down the camera key while you reset with the stylus. This will cause the phone to enter bootloader screen (the tri-colored screen) and then connect to your computer through usb. You should be able to run KaiserRUU now.

Always love to hear success stories. My discovery was born out of my own frustration with trying to get my custom weather. I shared it to hopefully save many other people the troubles i went through :)

Turns out to have been an issue with that particular Radio combined with the HTC Weather set to auto update AND my SyncML software both starting up at boot up - problem went away with a hard reset and now that I am using a different ROM I don't have any of these problems.

Thanks for the response though!

Just rename the file htchome.old and then copy the new htchome.dll file into the windows directory and you will be find. I don't think it'll let you change it from read only while it's being used.

I found a work-around:

Done!!!!

Two things:

1) Did you edit the city using HHC or by editing the registry. I recommend using HHC.

2) Did you disable the proxy by going into setting/connections/connections/advanced/select network/edit/proxy settings and uncheck the box that says to use a proxy?

Skatdawg,

I have spent hours trying to fix this stupid WX via this current threat, this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=368282&page=4

And almost did the N2A fix, but saw several references that it caused perpetual reboots. I am running Dutty's 4/29 Hybrid w/Cube.

Using your method, I was able to get Orlando or Winter-Garden, FL to show up while linked with active sync as the default location and get weather.

Once unplugged it would "atttempt to download data", and then say "unable to retrieve data for selected city".

I then tried P1Tater's suggestion via HTC Customizer 1 Final, and his .dll (older), and all the weather functions worked just fine (updated via 3g, E, and wifi), but the backlight issue then popped up.

I reloaded your .dll, and backlight works, but no WX updates...

HELP!

PS - I checked your Proxy settings, and there were two Edits on the Network Mgt page, but only the lower one had anything about Proxys

What should these two windows say? Originally I thought it was My ISP top, and My Work Network below, but now not sure. I have unlimited data plan, and no 'work network' although a house wifi router....

I put my phone in airplane mode & when I returned to phone mode, it was as if I never installed jack. (Also ALL my SIM stored favorite people were removed from my favorite list)

My fix was to re-install the patch, is this just a user error (most likely) or glitch? Either way, is their a fix?
Just curious. Thanks in advance rickC

I have an AT&T Tilt with the stock 6.1 ROM. I disabled the AT&T bloatware when I installed the new ROM. I used HTC Home Customizer to customize my home. Unfortunately Weather didn't work, so I came to this thread and did this:

Okay, here's what i did, and i have a working HTC home w/ working weather:

1) Disable HTC Home from today screen
2) Unzip the attached file, then copy it to the windows directory
3) Soft Reset
4) Enabled HTC Home

http://www.4shared.com/file/54303305/b583f94/HTCHome.html

Now HTC Home Customizer doesn't work. I have stock home with the exception of the 6th icon, but now I can't customize the home page. My local weather works great now though!!

Any ideas?

I am relatively new to these forums, so I may need extra help. I have been looking at all of these many posts in attempts to get my local weather. I read where some are actually "creating" customized locations rather than using the list which comes with the HTC Home.

How is that done? I can find it on the website, but I can't figure out how to incorporate that into the phone?

Also, I just recently updated to WM6.1 and I lost all my Voice Tags. I read that Voice Command is expected to replace that, but I can not get it to work.

Lastly in regards to the weather, I read that I should use a REGEDIT program, where is that?

Thank you.

I tried this fix, and HTC Home disappears all together. I have to restore my registry to get it to work. I have working weather, but no way to customize HTC Home now.

It is no big deal to remove programs/dlls etc... and re-install them in a particular order for me. I have no idea what that order might be as I'm not smart enough about this stuff to know which order might be key to getting Home Customizer to see HTC Home and the dll.

This is the order that I installed programs and their versions to get customized weather to work.

1. Download HTC Home Customizer Fix Here: http://rapidshare.com/files/92813365/HTC_Home_plugin_v2.0.814.722.zip.html

2. Remove HTC_Home_PPC_Blue from Remove programs if is there. If not, go to step 3.

3. Install sdkcerts.cab

4. Install Kaiser.HTC.Home.v2.0.814.722-schen.cab

5. Install Backlight bug fix.cab

6. Install HHCv10b5.cab

That made my already created customized weather location work. BUT!! It disabled HHC. SO I tried uninstalling/reinstalling HHC. No luck. I tried the fix mentioned above. No luck. So, it appears that using the HTCHome.dll in this thread disabled HHC all the while enabling an already created customized weather location.

I'm all ears (eyes) for any experts that might have ideas to make this work.

You must have the following cabs or dlls on your storage card.

a. tcmdpocketarm (Or another program that does the same thing as Pocket Commander)

b. HHCv10b5

c. HTCHome.dll found in post 54 of this thread.

How to do it:

At this point, you should be able to both use HHC to edit appearance and customize weather.

Customize away and then restore/reinstall data/programs you had on your phone before. Customize some more if you want! I have not tried this yet after adding things like Kaiser Tweak, but tbraun has with no issues.

Good Luck!

Jim

I am relatively new to these forums, so I may need extra help. I have been looking at all of these many posts in attempts to get my local weather. I read where some are actually "creating" customized locations rather than using the list which comes with the HTC Home.

How is that done? I can find it on the website, but I can't figure out how to incorporate that into the phone?

Also, I just recently updated to WM6.1 and I lost all my Voice Tags. I read that Voice Command is expected to replace that, but I can not get it to work.

Lastly in regards to the weather, I read that I should use a REGEDIT program, where is that?

Thank you.

8) Clik and "save" and then enable the HTC Home Plugin again.

9) Your weather tab should now display your customized list of cities.

I found a work-around:

Done!!!!

:) Seems to work perfect.

I am kind of new to this and I am still attempting to learn. I have a Tilt that I am running stock ROM 6.1. I have loaded HTC home and several of the editing programs. I am having the weather problem and have been able to follow these instructions through step 4. I am unsure how to "change the location of HTCHome.dll". I have SKTools and Total Commander. Could someone please dumb down the last step for me. I would like to have my local weather but have not been able to make any other patch work.

Thank you to anybody that can help

Thanks to SCOTCHUA for his HTChome.dll I have finally managed to get customised weather sites working on my HTC.

Here how:-

I have attaced all you need. Unzip these files first on your PC before copying to device. (Sorry can't get HTC Home customiser to upload, you will have to get that from elsewhere.)

Install HTC Home Customiser, not sure if this is required but you can do cool stuff with the display.
Install rescoe explorer (Needed to overwrite dll and xml files in Windows) Copy in the xml file to Windows directory with resco, I have included Australian towns Orange, Dubbo, Albury, Wagga and Lismore but you can add your own. Check the codes required on the http://www.accuweather.com/ web site
Disable HTC Home in "Settings - Today" Restart Copy in attached HTChome.dll to Windows directory with Resco.
Enable HTC Home in "Settings - Today" and pick a town you have added and see if it works.

Good Luck - Hope this helps and Thanks again to SCOTCHUA for his HTChome.dll

Weather won't download via edge or 3g:

For those of you still having problems with the weather plug-in here is another thing I did to fix it:

1. Go to Settings - Connections - Connections - Advanced - Select Networks - Edit (MEdia Net) - Proxy Settings -> UNCHECK BOTH OPTIONS

2. Soft Reset

It should work fine
using hyperdragon 3 manilla and weather wont update unless on wifi. used to work on previous roms ( cooked and ship ). I have tried adding the new HThome.dll which did not work, I have tried removeing the proxy ticks and that did not work. I do not have a media Net ....

can anyone help with this as i dont know what to try next

Maybe because you're in the HTC Home Weather thread. Try the Manila2D posts here:

You obviously did not try the above, or you would not have tried copying over htchome.dll, because the file you are supposed to copy is called manila2D.exe, which is why i sent you to the other post rather than this one. This one will not fix your Manila weather issue, as it's for HTC Home not for manila

Also didn't the original screen rotate button in HTCHome cycle through all 4 views, like the Homeplugin button, any fix for that? Thanks

File is marked as "System" After using total commander => properties to check. It was marked system before and after the soft reset. My today screen is still blank after loading your htchome.dll into my windows directory. Overwriting my previous one. Only way to get back from this is to uninstall/reinstall htchome. Update: After clicking on my screen (where my htchome would normally be the files are opening) It's just not displaying on my screen however. So in other words it's there on the screen, i can click on it but i just cannot see it. Thanks for helping me out, I really appreciate it.

Hi,
I appreciate your efforts to help.
I installed rom made by S.V.I WM 6.1 20273 HORNET MANILA using herg62123 [Manila2D]
Post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=416636

I added the cities that interested me in the customized database, but can not obtain data from the official address http://htc.accuweather.com/widget/htc/forecast-data_v3.asp?ac=TR2cra9U&locCode=. I am interested where and how to replace an official address because there is no file htchome.dll.
I tried replace Manila2d.exe with the couple offered by N2A but even no one suited to my ROM.
I will be very grateful if you help me solve this problem or refer to the post where can I get information.
Greetings,
xxxLux

I have a patched Manila2D (and server) that is more recent than the one that was included with this patch.

Try this one and see if it works better for you - this version of Manila2D was taken from the HyperDragon 03 December release. The patch for not2advanced's web site would NOT WORK on that release as there was a rather tricky little CNAME game played in DNS and used on that one (see the thread referenced for more info) so I set up a server on a very short URL that allowed the patch to be made.

You can find the patch here:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3041842#post3041842\

Note that this uses my server and not "not2advanced"s (its open, on a high-bandwidth commercial connection, and will remain available.)

Unfortunately, this patch does not work. After copying and starting, on the screen appears "Lounching TouchFLO " and then "Tap here to ........ ", and again "Lounching ... " etc.. I noticed that the file sizes differ, and if this can help Manila2d.exe (in my wizard), modified 3.12, size 407,800 bytes and pathed one is 1132984 b.
Thanks for your help,

WIZARD?!

This copy is out of the HyperDragon December 03 version that is posted here.

The other copy posted here is (slightly) smaller and from a different build. It works on my Kaiser BUT the SMS "read flag" doesn't work and the double-tap on the END key to go back to HOME doesn't either, which is why I undertook patching this one.

If you've got something that's 400k then what you've got is very different than what I patched and they're incompatable. If you want to PM me I'll send you an email where you can send your Manila2d.exe and I'll look at it - if I can patch it I can send it back to you fixed up.
