Hi All,

I am newbie to the shift but have been lurking around here for awhile. I just purchased my Shift last week and have not yet liberated it yet.

My question is this: Where did 18gigs of my 40gig hard-drive go? I haven't installed anything yet.

I can't imagine Vista taking up that much space (although, this is my 1st experience w/Vista Business).

I am planning on installing Office Ultimate, Photoshop Elements & Premiere... nothing else beyond that.

My other question is: Can I install some of these programs to an SD card? I don't want to knock out my remaining 22 gigs...hahaha.

I really enjoy reading this forum and I appreciate the input that everyone has to offer.

Hello MrJinx,

The Recovery Partition (HPA, being hidden) is taking 3.2GB, Vista Business needs up to 10 GB, adding 1GB for hiberfil.sys (Hibernate feature) and 1.2GB for pagefile.sys...
Add some more space for Programs and you've your numbers...
Indeed, 40GB HDD on a Vista computer is a mistaken choice and this is why some of us are going for a HDD upgrade (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=377684).

Regarding installation on SD card : this is "Removable Storage" and you won't be allowed to install Software on it.
