Guy's,
Finally you can flash any rom to your device without help from the 2nd device. I believe it's a great news for them who is suffering from the broken USB connecor.
It's tested on my G3 device with my latest ROM's and other should work without problem.
Procedure:
1. Download the tool and unrar somewhere in your pc.
2. Decode the rom image (nk.nbf) using HTC64 tool and put it (nk.nba) under the "SD_Flash" directory.
3. Run the "SDFlash_G3.cmd" and follow instruction on the screen.
Please note, it's limited to G3 device only and I may add support for G4 device in future.
SD-ROM image tool:
http://vidmes.com/Uni/ROMs/Tomal/Tools/Ranju_SD_Flash.rar
!! IMPORTANT: Do it at your own risk. I'll not take any responsibility if you damage your device. !!
Cheers

Great stuff.
I especially look forward to a G4 release.
My USB commector broke off the circuit board recently and was floating about inside the device for a while before I opened up the device and glued it back in position onto the circuitboard. It now works (the 5 little pins are connected) so I can charge the battery through it, but I don't really trust it to flash a firmware through.
Thankfully I'm already on the ROM I usually go back to (latest T-Mobile WM5) after playing around with WM6 and WM6.1.
Nice to see developments being made for those of us with handicapped uni's!!!

Ranju, as usual, you are the man!
I experienced the "direct flash" on a Mio A701 and it's really a great feature. Now I can't ask you anything more... ehm...
..

I tried to flash using bluetooth (yeah, I was stupid) and since then it's hanging in bootloader mode.
The mini-USB connector broke before (that's why I was using BT) and now I finally thought I had a solution to get it working again.
However, when I follow your steps and reset (backlight + power + reset) it doesn't even seem to look at the SD-card; it just shows serial + v1.00 again.
Any ideas?
In SDimage it get's to only 3,21%, but's that's normal on a 2 gig card I presume?

I just edited my post :).
I used another card and that got only to 3,21% or something (2gig card) so I presumed that's normal because of the image size?

Yes, it's normal.
Did you inserted the card to device before entering to bootloader?
Read and follow all the instructions carefully in the .cmd file.

Read and follow all the instructions carefully in the .cmd file.
For more info, read Htc Service manual of Universal.
I shall tell about all the steps I took:
1. Download the tool and unrar somewhere in your pc.
- Easy.
2. Decode the rom image (nk.nbf) using HTC64 tool and put it (nk.nba) under the "SD_Flash" directory.
- I took your(?) "Ranju_v76_WM61_19209_19209_1_0_2", unrarred it and decoded it to nk.nba.
3. Run the "SDFlash_G3.cmd" and follow instruction on the screen.
g3.bin and nk_sd_g3.bin are created.
After that, I put in my Dane-Elec 2 gig SD-card and format it to FAT32.
SDimage is opened and I select the FAT32 F: drive.
After that I push the "Import SD Image" button.
Fill in "i agree", click "ok" and "yes" (with "hex" unchecked).
There I choose bin files and select "nk_sd_g3."
I then click "Ignore", "yes" and "ignore" and it's starts writing.
At 3,21% I get the dump incomplete notification and click ok.
I then put the card in my Universal, press the light and power button and the reset pin.
For a second or so the v1.00 disapears and it comes back without doing/checking/reading anything.
I'm quit sure the SD-card should work because before I flashed using BT, it worked and I tested the same procedure with another card.
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong or why the Universal doesn't even seem to look for the SD-card?

Yup, same problem here! I tried with a 512MB Toshiba SD card, previously formatted both to FAT(16) and FAT32. SDImage.exe runs up to 12.91% (FAT) or 12.93% (FAT32), with such card capacity. Same results: my Exec just sits there in booloader mode forever...

all the steps are correct .
I'm sure root cause is under the header (g3.bin). it's a mmc header and I suppose there is a difference between sd & mmc header. I'll verify once I can arrange a sd card. alternatively someone can try it using a mmc card so that I can reach to a conclusion.

Since my mini-usb port is broken, I'm afraid I can't do it...

Yes indeed! You need the USB connector to do the backup. Although I believe that flushing can be done without the unique SD/MMC Header by hacking the bootloader & bypass the checking as had been done before when my PPC was still Himalaya.
If time permits this coming weekend, I'll try to test ranju's program & play with his, OllieD's & my MMC Headers & see if swapping around different headers will work. At the moment I'm sure that ranju's program works perfectly in his own setup & we need to replicate it in each of our own setups.
It's a pity that not so many are taking interest in this thread as against waiting for a new ROM to flush. I doubt it also that they have a bootloader or SD/MMC header backup. I'm sure one of this days these peeps will be heading to this thread once they have problems flushing by ordinary means.
Let's keep our fingers crossed & hope that ranju will allocate more of his time in his initiative to solve SD/MMC flushing solution rather than releasing a new ROM! :D :D :D If each of those asking for a new ROM release can contribute their own G3/G4 SD and or MMC headers, will surely have hundreds of headers to test.

Well, have just dowloaded Ranju's v7.7 ROM, but am unable to flash it. :(
With an old Toshiba 512MB SD card of mine, his g3.bin file (which seems to be an MMC header) doesn't seem to produce an usable nk_SD_g3.bin to me. As my USB port is broken, I can't read its header (besides, even if it was working, I don't know how to do it ).
Please, anybody here with a 512MB SD card, who happens to have means to read its header, be kind enough to provide Ranju with it.
Thanks, anyway.
Cheers!

I'm expecting my universal in the post today ( <3 ebay) so I've got a pile of reading to do, but I've got a few SD cards, a couple of 512MB among them, so I'll get around to doing this as soon as i figure out what's involved. :)

IMHO, the image file built to be copied into the card simply doesn't fit in a 64MB card! Hence, your warning message. Perhaps, the mininum card size is 128MB. You know, Ranju's is 256MB! The good thing here, though, is that it seems to me a confirmation that the header is really meant for MMC cards only.
Regarding your 2GB card, you are in the same boat as the rest of us who have been unable to flash so far: it is a SD card!
I might be heavily wrong, though. :)

you can use attached tool to dump the sd header to file:
sdread.exe -p G: start 416 sd.bin
here G: is the drive letter of your sd card and sd.bin is the file-name, please modify them accordingly. it would write the 416 bytes from your sd to the file.
by the way, an sd-header has been attached. anyone willing to test it....?

Your Device Is Not SuperCID. (Not Unlocked)
70100000 Is The Start Sector Of The Rom Image Within The Doc Chip.
3EFFFFF Is The Last Sector Of The Rom Image Including The Bootsplash.
Try Entering "Password UNIVERSAL" Before The Other Commands.
Typing "Task 32" Should Respond "Level=0" For An Unlocked Device I Believe.
I Cant Remember If The Device Needs To Be SuperCID Beforehand.
If You Do Need To Unlock Your Device Use Buzz's Unlocker (http://buzzdev.net/files/Universal/HTC_Universal_SIM_Unlock_v1.rar)
After Unlocking You Will Have To Reflash The Radio Rom As The Unlocker Flashes A Special Radio Image For The Purpose Of Unlocking.
Hope Some Of This May Be Usefull.

What's the problem with my 2Gb SD card???
D2S Doesn't Seem To Like Large Capacity Memory Cards.
The Biggest Ive Managed To Use Is A 256M MMC Plus Card.
I Was Trying To Get My Hands On A 1GB SD To See If They Work Or Not.
The Only SD Cards I Have Are A 4GB Transcend 150x And I've Just Bought A 8GB Sandisk Extreme III Class 6.
I Presumed Already That If It Doesn't Like My 4GB Card Then It Deffinately Aint Gunna Like My 8GB SDHC Card.

So is there another way to create a header for my SD card? It's a Transcend 2Gb 150x

So...
Has anyone had any luck with this method and a G4 device?
Also, do you reckon the 512mb Mini-SD (with adapter) that came with my Uni about 20 months ago would work?

Yes I Have Managed To D2S A G4 Device. (And The Bootloader Can Recognise The Card Is A Backup.)
512MB Mini-SD Should Work.
I Dont Know About 1GB But I Presume 512MB Is The Max Card Size Allowed.

I try with a MMC 512Mb. Create a mmc header ok. And I build a ROM image with SDFlash_G3.cmd. When I insert MMC into my Uni, enter booloader and press Power button, nothing happens. But when I take out the MMC card, it warns ROM size isn't enough. What's wrong???
Edit: I tried with 128MB MMC. Pressed Power to flash a ROM but after DOCUpdating 100%, finally it said Checksum fail. And now I can't boot my Uni, so I have to reflash by my PC

Guy's,
Finally you can flash any rom to your device without help from the 2nd device.
Cheers
Thank you very much for your help
my Uni works well

This might sound similar to a question asked earlier in this thread, but it is a little different. I have an O2 Xda Exec and it shows Serial on the top and v1.01 bellow it. I just got this phone off of ebay, it had a working Rom and froze most of the time. The usb port work it connect with active sync on my pc and i could place file in it, and it can also be accessed with the mtty tool which i tried out to test it. I tried doing an update it started for a while and then stoped, I lost the old ROM and I am not able to load the new or the old Rom on to the device now, it alway say Rodeo error and other times connection error. I have tried several ways to update it with usb but i have been unsuccessful. I have wondering if there is a proven way to get this Rom loaded on my XDA Exec with all of this variables in place. My computer detects my XDA exec, I can connect to it with mtty tool, and i have a SD card. Please advice me on what to do next. thanks everyone.

You can fix it by formatting DOC of ur Uni.
Step 1: Enter Bootloader
Step 2: Connect ur Uni with PC but uncheck "Allow USB connection" in Microsoft Active Sync
Step 3: Use mtty in ur PC. Chose Post: USB and click OK.
And now type:
task 28 55aa (enter)
If u see:
DOCInfoTableinitHW+
Binary0 Size: 0x100000
FAT0 Size: 0x4000000
FAT1 Size: 0xA00000
FAT2 Size: 0x2C70000
All Size: 0x7770000
FAT0_ADDR=0x100000,FAT1_ADDR=0x4100000,FAT2_ADDR=0 x4B00000
it's ok. If u don't, so try a gain.
Type in turn (after each line, type enter):
set 14 0
set 14 1
set 14 2
set 14 3
set 14 4
set 14 5
set 14 6
set 14 7
set 14 8
set 14 9
set 14 10
After, type:
task 0
If ur touch screen turns in black, so u did it right. And now disconnect USB port and enter Bootloader again. Connect to PC, and use mtty again.
Now type:
shmsg 11
If u see:
USB>shmsg 11
String format is invalid!
Syntax error!
Don't worry, everything's ok. If u dont see it, try again from step 1 :(
And now, the last step is reset ur radio. Type:
rtask 0
You'll see:
USB>rtask 0
Radio reset.
USB>
Format DOC is OK. But after formatting ur Uni DOC, reflash ur Uni with a ROM ship (WM5) (O2, Tmobile, Dopod 900,...) and remember: reflash only the part nk.nbf. And now you can flash WM6 or WM6.1 again.
Regards!!!
PS: If u can't exit bootloader mode after reflashing ur ROM ship, use tool Exit BootLoader that u can find in this forum

Download this exe file (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=408881) and run, when the 'Device Software Update utility' window appears,
go to the below folder on your machine and you can find Tomal 8.2 nk.nbf
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp\RarSFX0
If you find multiple RarSFX folders, check in folder having maximum suffix after RarSFX.
Hope this helps.

hi guys !
I broke down my hermes100 software in a way. when I softreset, welcome image(htc pv hermes windows mobile 6.1 ) starts and sticks in the same way.I tried many times it didnt change. I couldnt install any rom from my pc. because pc doesnt set any connection with hermes.
I tried sdcard flashing as wiki said ;
1) I formatted my micro sdcard as fat32
2) I copied i-mate _JASJAM_telstra _1.31.305.2_106_6275_1.38.30. 10_108 _ship
3) I renamed it as herming.nbh by using folder utilities in in pc
4) I started bootloader by pressing okaybutton+power button and stick with stylus on reset button
and hermes says "loading" after a few seconds three colours image (red green blue) appears and never changes. the picture in wiki's page at the bottom couldn't appear. I also pressed onto power button, but no changes.
what did I do wrong ? how can solve this problem guys I need your help..
THANKS ALOT IN ADVANCE

Guys, I have this exact same problem; Broken USB port, unable to flash from SD card. On top of that, my Uni won't boot up past the operator logo.
I've tried with 2 SD cards now, a 128MB Sandisk MicroSD card (in an adapter), and a 256MB SD card from a Tomtom 510.
What I did was the following, and I tried with both cards and both nk.nbf:
1. I found nk.nbf from an old Helmi ROM I flashed successfully about 2 years ago, I also got nk.nbf from Tomals 8.2 WM6 ROM.
2. When I run HTC64_Extended_ROM_Tool.exe and select nk.nbf and "Decode", I'm left with 2 files, nk.fat and nk.prj
3. I rename nk.fat to nk.nba and run SDFlash_G3.cmd
4. The batch script runs fine, and it ends up writing to SD card with SDImage
5. I put the newly prepared SD card in my Uni, I insert the battery, I hold down Backlight + Power and hit the Reset button
6. All I see on the screen is "SERIAL" at the top and "1.00" at the bottom.
Help me please :)

Well, I can tell you my personal experience. As soon as my USB port broke months ago, I managed to keep it running by switching its battery with a recharged one (on a spare wall charger) on a daily basis.
After some time, I sent it for servicing. The person who did it to me was Dave Apsley (http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=535282), in England. Perhaps f you contacted him you could have your Uni's USB port working again.
Wish you luck !

Yep, spoken to Dave before, he's a nice guy but couldn't help me last time I asked if he could assist with a 128MB RAM upgrade, maybe he can help with fixing the USB port so I can reflash it. I can live with it at 64MB, but I desperately need to reflash it to get it to boot up.
Wish you luck !

Strange. Dave actually upgraded my Uni's RAM to 128MB for me. He fixed the USB port along with the RAM upgrading process, but, unfortunately, my Uni died a couple of months later...:(
