There is another piece of SW that was recently ripped from the Diamond rom. It is another newer bets build of The upcoming 9.5 Opera browser. As such it was VGA. A few moddifications have been made for QVGA graphics.

Wanna give it a try? Here ya' go.

Leon i was wondering, did you extracted this yourself? i just thought if you did, do you think is possible to extract tom tom 7 too? (just a shot in the dark).. or the roms available dont have it?

The first one I got did not have it. I just came upon two more Diamond ROMs though, but I'll have to say that to extract & fix a program like tomtom would take time I do not have. Remember, this is a VGA device we're talking about, & to rebuild a tomtom cab would entail not only a lot of library changes, but a registry rebuild too. When I have time I'll see if it's in either of the two new ones I've found, but don't hold you breath.

Well, the version from PPCGeeks works for me. A lot of promise -- much better than the previous build I used (the one from Laurentis prior ROMs). Still slow, memory and CPU hungry, and has really big problems with input (especially fields). Going back to Opera mini 4.1. The best so far despite all the shortcomings of being a java app on a WM device.

i've realized that it does have some skin/color issues as well. Not only that but its a little slower in loading pages and almost locks up when u try to exit.

But the adaptive text has been improved. still not sure whether i should i go back to the previous build or not.

as of now i had some minor issues like the history not showing up, but if scroll the wheel it selects it. but other than that this version has been incredible. sometimes when zooming in i prezz the zoom button once, but this build rocks.

Installed your QVGA Version on the Kaiser but the settings page is TINY, is it a problem with my ROM maybe ?

wow, this just shows how different rom/package set-ups mess things up. My install of this is brilliant - page loads, scrolls etc are at least as fast as a wifi-connected iphone. the skin and colours etc are fine - fit well with new Dutch rom. the general 'feel' if the app is a revelation over 8.65

My only issues are
1. (probably through ignorance) I can't find the History!! and
2. It crashes if I try to load a big page (perhaps a memory issue?)

Figured it out, you need to be zoomed out on a webpage if you want to see the setting at their normal size.

One problem I'm having is that the "zoomed in" flowed text is not quite big enough, I can zoom in but that setting doesn't stick. Any ideas ?

Program broke my task/close soft key. Pressing the soft key would freeze lock and freeze my home screeen. Finally got it removed and everything works again. I will reinstall later and try again.

Would love to try this, but I've attempted to download the file using Netfront, Opera mini 4.1 and pocket ie, and none work with the rubbish web site that is Rapidshare!

Even with a full on PC the site is very annoying (stupid cat pictures to annoy people into paying!)... are there really no better options for hosting files?

I tried that one but still had problems with it. Opera installs fine but won't load, a soft reset just opens a OperaLoader or something but when I hit the Opera icon it just shows me the address bar (with the ppcgeeks url btw) and just stays there with some parts in blank and others just not rendered.

Is not a problem for me in any case, just want it to try it this one cause the 9.5 posted before was pretty impressive except for the fact that is very difficult to uninstall and that messed up mi PocketIE

I had the same experience. It messed with my Pocket Plus Close Menu add-on... it wouldn't load until I disabled the pre-loader using SKTools. I have noticed some screen issues still with the software involving the Pocket + battery indicator at the top of the screen and the box for the X button in the upper right... also slowed my phone down a lot until I killed it.

ditto the above. what is in this new version? the issues i have found in the first version are:

1. large pages do not load - opera crashes
2. page loading is a litle slow, particularly loading and clicking links.
3. wheb browsing over wifi, if the connection is lost it cannot be re-established without first quitting opera.
4. flash doesn,t work properly.

Are any of these issues addressed in the new release?

I still maintain that this software is, for me, revolutionary. Thanks for the efforts.

I notice that you can sync favorites between your desktop Opera 9.5 (Beta 2) and Opera Mini 4.1 - works well.

I cannot see this same functionality in Opera Mobile 9.5 (using latest Build 1004) - how is everyone keeping favorites sync'ed? I guess choices are to import the .adr file from the desktop, or to maintain a separate set of favorites on the Kaiser.

Is anybody having problems with scrolling? I touch and drag the page and most of the time when I release, the page just jumps back to the previous place.

Other than that I had issues with the preloader as well, deleted it from startup and things were a lot smoother.

i have the same issue - exporting .adr from the desktop Opera 9.5 is probably ok, but cannot find the right directory to load this to on the Kaiser.

Doesn't seem as neat as the sync function for Opera 9.5 / Opera Mini 4.1

I'm using Pointui 1.51a with this CAB, and have not had any issues. What are the issues that you're having?

When I went to look under Currently Running, PointUI would freeze. I too have 1.51a. As soon as I uninstalled Opera the Currently Running was functioning properly.

However, since then, I've been using .1004 and its working flawlessly.

Try reinstalling Flash in phone memory rather then storage card.

On my version Youtube works at times and most other time it doesn't. I can't seem to figure out why?

When it works it plays very slowly but way better then it did on V405 and the flash player screen is nicely displayed too.

Type about:config in the address bar scroll down to the bottom and click on "User Prefs" somewhere in the middle close to the bottom you should see "Cache 4 Directory" highlight the text and paste Storage Card\Application Data\Opera9\cache\

That will put the cache on your storage card adding a new folder "Application Data"

Same here. This horrible image processing combined with the poor hard keyboard support adds up to a glossy, but very superficial, package. The Paris Hilton of web browsers, if you like.

Personally I rate function over form (in gadgets, at least), that's why I have a Tytn II rather than an iPhone.

If you are having problems with screen display overflows your device screen, I suggest the following:

From your device while in ActiveSync, go to Mobile device, click on application data, Opera 9, Skin, replace the Standard_skin.zip file with the attached and you are good to go.

I have been using this build for quite some time and it is the best 9.5 beta that I've used so far. Their are a few minor and major glitches/bugs 1 of them being when typing into the address bar it disappears I have experienced this problem and its the first time that has happened of all the opera 9.5 beta's and build's I've had installed. I'm thinking mayb a registry tweak can fix this?

Another MAJOR problem is when using opera it has to be used alone by itself OR IT WILL CRASH ALL OTHER RUNNING PROGRAMS and no its not rom specific I even tried this on a stock rom SAME PROBLEM

Other than that, i like it. Its alot slower than opera mini, but it has some more features.

I de-bloated my ATT Tilt by doing a hard reset then a soft reset during boot up. That worked pretty good, everything ran faster and the bloatware was gone. Then when I tried PIE, pages wouldn't load properly, links wouldn't be highlighted, pictures wouldn't show, etc.

So I thought I would try the Opera beta.

I downloaded the files to my tilt and tapped the setup. It installed the first 20K then stuck on the following lines:

Is there any way (perhaps in opera:config) to set Opera to open tabs in the background? It really annoys me to open a link in a new tab and be automatically forced to that new tab. I would prefer to queue up a bunch of links and view them in my own order.

Did you check out the config items when you enter "opera:config" in the URL area? It's probably under there...

Has anyone had a problem that while using the address input (www.google.com) up on the top...that before you're even through trying to put in an address...it slides back up as if you are no longer using it? It's been the main reason I've stopped using it. Enter the address...halfway through, the bar disappears and you can't keep typing it out.

If you go to Settings - Display and then turn off Automatic full screen, you will not have the issue with the screen popping up before you are done typing with the hard keyboard.

However, I do not know how to manually change to full screen on the fly?

It's been the main reason I've stopped using it. Enter the address...halfway through, the bar disappears and you can't keep typing it out.

Yes, that is seriously irritating, although I swear it only started happening to me recently!

Actually, I bet what's happening is this. It does not happen if the SIP is up, but it does with the hardware keyboard. I bet it's because this is from the Diamond and they DO check if the SIP is active but not the hardware keyboard.

Edit: Opera just did the hiding address bar thing on me again. Looks like the only 100% solution is to disable auto-fullscreen.

Did you check out the config items when you enter "opera:config" in the URL area? It's probably under there...

I have been using this build for a couple of days and am having a problem connecting to my work email.
Sometimes I can log in but when I try to display the content I get a message from my server that says I am logged in on a separate IP address and will have to log off that address and re-log in. Do the IP addresses switch for some reason while using this program?

Not just assigning to the web button, but to open links from e-mails and feeds?

Installed this today and was pretty blown away by it, have only really used PIE before. The moving round and zooming in worked very well and quick. The only issue was the way favorites are managed. The screen looked ugly, is this just due to the move from VGA to QVGA? anyway to improve it?

yeah...PIE stinks. but sad to say, i often use opera mobile 9.5 build1184, opera mini and skyfire as well. using just oen of the three doesn't cut it. both operas = no flash, but then skyfire renders pages super slow...even when zooming in to a page thats already loaded, it just sits...and sits...and sits...

This will do the trick: once installed Opera will open up attachments etc instead of the dreaded PIE (YUK!)
