Guys, I need some advice here.

I get battery draining at 90% after 1.5 hours, not running any program nor screen open. Nada.
This with the same Radio as WHk and Shogun are using.
If no program runs, what hidden exe would have such an impact?

The only thing I did was modding SPB 2.1 with new screen (more) icons
Could this have such a negative impact?

To paraphrase Sherlock Holmes - When you have ruled out the obvious, what ever remains - no matter how improbable is likely the cause.

I have V2 - the only other programs that I have loaded are:
Tom Tom Nav6
TrackMe
My Mobiler

I have played with this non-stop this evening and it is 9:30 now CST. I have 71 percent battery left.
Note - I do not have nor use SPB any version.

I second , third and zillion that for sure. (almostgot seduced by another though I stick with this one as it is damn stable )
Added value is the "less intrest" from the Forum on this one , which does not force me to read 145.689 times "wow" -or "downloading now" :-)

i think alot of people get sucked in to other roms by flashy sh!t (the old phrase, baffle them with bull$hit comes to mind :D ) since i dont have that, or its beta then people dont tend to float this way. but im totally fine with that, i would rather have stable and fast than buggy and shiney. This is why i had such a difficult confrontation with myself on even releasing V2, the base rom was buggy and i didnt want it to impact its overall impression.

The other thing is you can go to any rom and see a zillion posts about how great it is for them, or how fast it is for them (unless OEM lol) but you never know until you flash it for sure... everyones needs are different, and everyones devices are different.

I built this for me, i wanted stable, i wanted speed, i wanted pleasure to be mixed with my business. To me it was Death to the idea of mixing business with pleasure. :D

what pleases me the most as a chef is that i have yet to see 1 real negative post that wasnt focused on the negative side. I have see a small handful of bug reports, and tons of suggestions. This is the best thing i could ask for, as it helps to build a good rom as well as a community effort.

So drink from the cup of death and be merry :D

V3 will possibly be out soon and should have jive support. Nothing shows appreciation like beer money, lol j/k... Everyone enjoy! and everyones hints, tips, and suggestions are always welcome and do have an impact on the final version!

My drunk a$$ is going to bed now! :D

This is a great ROM. I've been using it for about a week now and like it very much. The default ringtone was a nice touch and it's the only ringtone I haven't changed after flashing.

I also appreciated the bundled apps - mostly ones that I actually use, although I'd like to see RDC and VNC put in the same directory, as they are essentially the same thing. Maybe change "Web" to "Communications" or similar and throw it in there. I also like seeing the file explorer in the root apps directory since I use it so much, but that's just a personal pref.

There is only one real bug I can think of. If you change the device theme to something and then change it back to all_black, you get grey bars at the top and bottom instead of black. I don't see the real black bars program on here, so I couldn't get them back.

That's it for now, keep up the good work!

ah I remembered two other things:

1. The A2DP is a bit crappy - cuts in and out. This is usually luck of the draw on roms as most people don't use it and therefore don't optimize it.

2. I don't really get the IncaX stuff. I tried it out, but the camera is so unbearably crappy as to render it useless. Am I missing something?

Sorry, but I over-reacted a bit. Respect.

Though many others and I do look forward for V3 and I'll drop you another 6-pack (when the job is done, avoiding you're not sober when in the kitchen) :p

1 suggestion I think of right now:
For the soft keyboard, pls install the one which has numbers + alphabet on 1 screen . (PCM and all others 3rd parties can be set by us afterwards)

I am using windows live, installed separately as stand alone CAB. Windows Live(10.6.0034.0800) and Search(3.0.3047.24749). For all prior ROMs it was included. If I setup "Sync as Item arrive" in windows live options (to use push technology for hotmail) It not doing it, still require manual refresh to get new messages. It always was working before, may be I need some special registry settings? Exchange push work perfectly, just windows live push not working. Would it make sence to integrate Live cab to your ROM?
Other then this ROM is working flowlessly and I like it alot.
Thanks

Start -->settings-->input-->small keys.. it exists currently. Please don't add a giant keyboard..people can add it themselves by cab. The less the better, the faster and more stable the rom. Seriously people use cabs to cusotmize your rom, it doesn't all have to be handed to you. If anything please lighten the rom up on unnecessary apps.

Let me also add this...even with everything you do have loaded, this is by far the most stable and fast rom currently out. Even with all of my software in it it still runs fast and smooth. So cook your flavor and I'll adapt to it.

windows live is pushing my emails through just fine. I do know that i have to manually sync it only immediately after a soft reset as it will not connect automatically the first time, after that it works like a charm, i am however using a different version, though i do not believe that is the problem since many people use that version.

For what it's worth here (http://www.4shared.com/file/40641569/679873fe/Windows_Live_106330600__Fixed___duttythroy_.html) is the version i use. I know it's older, but it's the only version i've found that creates the inbox as "windows live" instead of hotmail, which keeps it from messing w/ my xpressmail checking my hotmail account for work.

Personally - once I found "transcriber" mode I never went back to the keyboard.

If you are not familiar with Transcriber mode you get to it just like your message above and pull down the option and choose transcriber.

Now - you can actually WRITE on the screen in your own handwriting and it recognizes it and types it in for you automatically. It is very reliable.

1. Your right, i dont use A2dp, but if you have a suggestion on what reg settings work well with this rom for a2dp and i will be more than happy to try to adapt
2. The inca-x stuff is something im involved in, and alot of my input and thoughts have been turned this in to what it is today. This software has tons of future potential. Like i have stated before in numerous posts, i have tailored the rom around me, its what i use. You dont have to use the inca-x software but i urge everyone to give it a try. :D visit this thread for more info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=386477

is this the same cab you use on the other roms that it worked on? And i wont integrate windows live because its huge, and because not everyone use's it. I personally dont use my hotmail and use IM+ for messenger. I will put this at my look into list though :D do we know if that cab works on the original att rom?

I am a noob to xda. Based on the posts that I have read, your ROM seem to be the stable and speedy ROM for tilt. I was ready to flash until I read about V3. I understand that this ROM is customized for your usage. Would you please consider a second clean version without the additional apps for V3? Thanks.

So - You are new - you have not used this ROM and yet you are making requests of the chef? ;)

Why would you want a "clean" ROM and leave out features?
1. because you don't need them - ok don't use them or uninstall them
2. because they slow down the ROM - you have not used this ROM so you don't know how fast it is and yet you want some removed? ;)

Try it - you'll like it. It is fast and stable - he has already said that V3 will only include base ROM stuff or a couple of minor things.

I did a series of testings with different radio's with BattBench.net simulator (Cab to be found on XDA) and can not get more than a dreadfull 250-300 min battery life.

Sherlock Holmes and hercules Poirot are giving up on me investigating this cause as it is in contradiction with WHK's findings (using the same Radio)
Guess that my device (as indeed pointed out by Shogun, each device is different) does not fit.

Will wait for a V3 release :)

I seriously doubt that you will have a difference (from what ShogunMark says he is going to change / fix) in V3.

You are saying that you have a 7200 and flash this ROM - and right out of the box after a hard reset you get this horrible battery life?

Wow - I have
TOMTOM
TRACKME
MyMobiler
Kaiser Tweak
(I honestly can't think of anything else that I have installed on it) installed and running.

Other "changes" that I have done -
I set Kaiser Tweak to turn off internet connection after 1 minute (did you do that? - without that it EATS BATTERY FOR LUNCH!)
I leave Bluetooth on all day long and let it find any of the three BT headsets or car phone adapters that I have when I am near them.
I do NOT have WIFI turned on all the time.
I set Kaiser Tweak to all recommended settings.
I took off Shogun's "black theme" that he likes so much and put on the pretty GREEN theme that he left on it.
I have the screen turn off after one minute and RELIGIOUSLY push the power button to turn on my screen and turn it off (the screen only) when I am done looking at it - I NEVER leave the screen on to turn off by itself. Although -0 now that I have all this extra battery life - I may get a little less anal about this.

This honestly is the ROM I am going to use for a long time - (or until I find any terrible bug) ;)

I keep responding because I know EXACTLY how you feel and how great I felt when I discovered this ROM and would really like to get yours working like mine is working.

@ Bill - WHk,

Beat me to Death :D but for sure I am not giving up on this one and will -one day or another - find the cause

The only thing I still can do is look at advanced config reccomended setings once more as all other points you refered to are similar or better

SPB is not the cause as removed, no wifi, no 3G enabled constantly, no internet, no taskmanager or other monitoring programs running... nada.

The only thing I still might think of is the combination of Garmin XT and the internal GPS. not that i can see any activity, but I do remember there was a thread about battery draining due to GPS. Will look into this.

I'll hard reflash and gradualy install all applications while running BattBench after it . This should determine the guilty one :o
Again, it is not the ROM itself , but my own device i am afraid.

before beating everyone to death about battery issues, who has what and who dont, etc... keep in mind the hardware thing, someone could have a bad battery (one of my devices does), or faulty hardware, cell coverage, phone constantly searching for 2G/3G, etc... the possibilities are endless. At this point its just better to agree to disagree.

Hi Shogunmark,

Great ROM, its fast and stable. Its the longest ROM I have kept installed on my Tytn so far among so many cooks. Love your secret recipe for SPEED!!!!

Anyway, here are some findings

1) Keyboard fix does not fix the H/W kb mapping issue - hope you can fix it in yr official ROM
2) I am using a different version of IM+ (Ver 4.57) unlike the one you have posted (V5.x -Trial). Some other ROMs have this issue too where you cannot type any msg or crashes the phone. Was wondering if you know how to overcome this.
3) GPS takes quite awhile (2-5min) to lock on for Garmin XT and Mapking. I assume that is related to the Radio. Tested with both 20.29 and 14.06 w/o much difference
4) 14.06 radio seems to fair better in terms of GPS signal and Data Connection speed but I have more missed calls issue as compared to 20.29
5) Ran MemMaid - did some system optimization and it "feels" slightly faster. Maybe its psychological but the setting from MemMaid was File cache: 2M, Font Cache: 32MB. Sorry I didnt check your orignal settings.

1. The original keyboard layout is for the tilt, the keyboard fix i posted is to change layout to tytnII.
2. The previous versions of IM+ are incompatible with wm6.1, this is why i posted the leaked version of IM+ that is compatible.
3. The initial GPS lock can take a few minutes, but should go faster after that, the only thing i can suggest is trying different radio combinations.
4. The rom was designed for 20.29 from the carrier, however doesnt mean its the best one for it.
5. file cache is 4MB, and font cache is 32KB not MB

Not to mention i think more and more people are starting to dismiss GXmark for reliability. I have 2 devices, 1 aways reads the 1588 or 1558 which ever is the standard one that everyone gets, and the other device will give different values

This is easily the best rom i've seen but it is not suited for Australia.

I found some issues that i need solutions for.....HELP!
Video call doesn't work
Gps - no signal at all
Network - im with 3 mobile & it doesnt show, but still works and you can call

Everything else works really well. I wonder if another radio might fix the gps problem. It would be cool if you could make it work for everywhere.

Keep up the good work!:)

here's some help:

The dialer does not support video dialing because the chef doesn't use it, and the tilt doesn't have a front camera and therefore it's not as useful of a feature. As i have a tilt, i have not tried it, but i believe that video dialing is supported if you get a dialer that supports it. Try here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2232038&postcount=170

As for the GPS, make sure that QuickGPS has been run first or you may not get a signal. Also try one of the two other radios that work with this rom, maybe you will have better luck. It is very location dependant it seems.

There is a program called "personalizer" where you can make it show whatever name you want instead of the carrier ID (in my case AT&T), if you want it to show your carrier then remove that program, otherwise go into programs and run it and change the name to whatver you would like.

You then state that NO 3G running constantly - MINE is running constantly.

Now - like Shogunmark states - lots of things can be different - like - I am in a constantly great place for signal where 3G is ALWAYS available and you are not?

Yes, it is that one indeed.
Though it is used by some chefs to report (or overwhelm )the audience with everlasting battery life, scoring mainly depends of the settings used.
Back screen at lowest luminosity will have 3x longer simulated batterly life than on highest.

To close the battery debate (which I agree lasted to long and is not bringing added value to this thread)
The draining has "stopped" without any reason. Still have 85% after 10 hours with normal mixed use.
Let's just call it wonders of technology hehe.
Case closed and watching the horizon to see some birdies showing up with a "3"behind their tail :)

I have Garmin Xt on my tilt and had a similar battery problem. I solved it by going into your Garmin XT settings to the Garmin Online setting and change it to "Prompted" instead of "Always". It seems that if it's set to always then it constantly is using the gps and your data connection, which accounted for the major battery drain.

Dope that helps for you.

Try START>SETTINGS>ADVANCED CONFIG?

Where are you setting this?
Try START>SETTINGS>ADVANCED CONFIG?
Also you can download and put Kaiser Tweak on it and set this there?
Bill

I've tried changing it in the normal device's backlight/power settings, I've tried setting it with the AdvancedConfig tool, AND I changed it in the registry via PHM RegEdit. So far, NONE of those methods have stuck. It ALWAYS reverts back to a 10 second timeout. Sometimes backlight will keep the setting for up to 3-5 minutes of use, but most of the time the backlight goes dim right at 10 seconds.

Is anyone else having problems wth their backlight control? I keep trying to change it to a 30 second timeout (while on battery), but it keeps reverting back to a 10 second timeout.

its 3rd party software... What all have you installed?

To close the battery debate (which I agree lasted to long and is not bringing added value to this thread)
The draining has "stopped" without any reason. Still have 85% after 10 hours with normal mixed use.

That brings me to another point, then the battery debate can die... Alot of the times the charge reported from the initial flash is incorrect, but after its had time to drain a little and plugged in to power up it usually puts the battery and driver in sync and all is happy...

ok, now the battery debate is over :D

Only Weather Watcher, Today Agenda, Opera (8.65), MS Live Search, Schap's RSS Hub, and PHM EgEdit. None of these programs influence backlight (as far as I know) or have given me a prblem with any other ROM.

I'm sorry...did I missed out the keyboard fix you posted? I went thru again but cant find the post. Appreciate if you can point me to the actual page...Thanks

No matter what you say, the 1.65.xx..xx are horrible for battery life in my area.

Once again radio's are very dependent on location :)

I am pretty much only going to use ROM's that support 1.64.xx.xx and 1.58.xx.xx radio's :)

phm regedit, opera 8.65, and M$ live search should be cool. I just installed weather watcher last night and have no issues with it... on hunch try un-installing Schaps RSS hub.

out of curiosity, how was the radio from hell in your area? out of all the ones out there i actually found that one to be the best! But regardless of being able to fix it or not im still staying away from it :D

Well I had it on my phone for about two weeks. Pretty much it was horrible for me as well. My new Tilt is security unlocked but I am still to afraid to flash that radio again. I don't know what it is about the 1.65.xx.xx radio's but whenever I use them my battery has great stand by time but as soon as I use it the battery drops it almost seems exponentially. :) As far as GPS goes though the 1.65.xx.xx radio's seem to be much better at picking up the satellites a lot quicker then the other WM6.1 Radio's. For me and other AT&T users, the NIKI 1.58.16.27 offers the best battery life. I don't know the reasoning behind this but it definitively offers the best battery life for most AT&T customers.

I would love to see your ROM with two different versions. One for users who like the 1.65.xx.xx raidos and one version with the 1.64.xx.xx radio's this way it would be the users preference to which one they want to use. I am actually working in the kitchen to see if I am able to do this myself but I don't want to step on any toes by doing that.

To make sure that the 1.65.XX.XX radio's are not the sole reason for my battery sucking juice when I use them, I just purchased a OEM Battery from an e-bay online dealer. It's the same exact battery that came with the phone. This way I can test out the battery issue, not one battery but on two.

I will let you know if I have different results with the new battery. As far as I can tell right now I don't think I will be seeing a difference.

BTW,

Keep up the great work on the ROM. I truly love it :) I would be using it right now if it used the 1.64.xx.xx and 1.58.xx.xx radios :)

ATW -
Just for the record - the VERY FIRST day on this ROM the battery was no better than before - however after one day (approximately) on the ROM the battery life improved beyond belief -

I took it of charger this morning at 5:30 AM and it is 1:15 PM CST now - and I have 91% battery life left.

Yippee - that is totally acceptable for me.

I am going to turn on Tom Tom and see what happens to battery life with it on without being on a charger (something I have not been able to do before due to battery suckage...)

Out of curiousity....

When I loose signal due to being indoors sometimes, when I click the icon to bring up the network tab to reconnect, the Comm Manger silently comes up in the background.

Thoughts? Opinions?

I agree that the 1.65.20.29 seems to be the best of the 1.65.xx.xx radios as far as battery life. However, for me, I missed 5 calls in an area where I was getting full signal and had 3 new text messages pop up suddenly. I know for a fact another AT&T user in Southern California had this happen to him as well. This was not a one time occurrence as when my girl was trying to call me it went straight to voicemail, again in an area in which I was receiving a full signal.

iGO8 works just fine for me on this ROM.

I have an issue I can not explain that cropped up in v2 or Death Warmed Over as I like to call it. The phone now randomly wakes up from sleep and stays on. I press the side button to put it down but about 2 min later back up it comes. This is the reason my battery life has been awful. The backlight keeps coming on. No programs are running in the background and I have re-set it twice as I am watching it and typing this. any iteas on this one? I love this rom but will be reverting back to my last one until this stops draining my battery.

Thanks!

Things that make the screen wake up:
1. are you checking messages regularly automatically?
2. GPS is not on (all things that check gps?)
3. wifi on?

I believe that possibly the phone has to "wake up" go make these connections and that possibly one of them is "waking up" your phone and showing the screen?

before we go around beating a dead horse with the backlight issues... as i stated many times before in the V1 thread and in this one somewhre... the core ATT rom that i used has intermittent backlight issues. And this rom will remain beta until ATT releases a new rom that i can strip and r@pe .

So YES there are backlight issues, you just have to play around with it till you can manipulate it to work.

I actually think the white screen that comes on intermittently is due to the push heartbeat, but thats my own theory, not sure what else is screwing up the actual backlight.

The only thing i have NOT personally experienced was the 10 second backlight bug (i did once but it was directly related to a .net app i installed)

I reviewed the settings you listed and none are on, I recieve mail manually and am not on wifi. I did also notice there were words that flashed in white toward the upper left corner of the screen when it woke itself up. Very small type and just for an instant. I could not make out what they said. Awesome rom though. Definitely a keeper once the wake up is solved.

OK - since this is happening to you every 2 minutes it should not take long to read those words ;).

THAT will be our best bet to fixing this - I am not seeing this on my phone and since something specific is happening on your phone I suspect it is not the Windows "bugs".

shogun, how close would u say the release of this rom is?

I want to flash it but i know right when i finish installing all my apps and tweaking it to how i like it then it'll be released and i'll have to do it all again.

ok, so i might have lied to you.. i didnt do it on purpose though.. i swear :D

but Death Beta V3 has a gxmark of over 1600, this screen shot says 1642 and could possibly be released today :D

V3 looks good ! Will it be possible to restore a sprite backup ?

Any reason you've kept the antiquated "wireless modem", for some reason it pops up as "internet sharing" if you add it in the commanager, instead of the more recent IS app ?
