Do these companies actually know things, or are they just making up the date and price? I'd like to think that they know something, but the vast range of dates and prices out there are making me think otherwise...

I don't know if you are aware but petrol prices in France are almost the same/if not more than the UK. Most places are currently selling petrol for €1.55 a litre, and with the poor exchange rate, this comes to a startling £1.23 a litre which is more than most UK garages.
I'm not disagreeing with you regarding rip off britain, just making sure you know the facts!

No, no, no, AT&T uses both 850 and 1900 bands for both voice and 3G data. If you buy a phone w/o the 850 band you'll have coverage, but it will be spotty. So even if you're in a 1900 band only area, it would be a waste of money to buy an extremely expensive phone only to not have it work when you need it out of town.
I've pasted an 850 only coverage map for AT&T. Add'l Coverage maps are here...http://www.gsmworld.com/roaming/gsminfo/cou_us.shtml

Dude just wait for the american version. Remember early adopters though they have the new hotness are also subject to the new bugs and crap. Besides if you spend 700+ on a phone the shid should work wherever the carrier has coverage.

I was considering that guy too, but it comes with their own 12 month waranty, not a manfuacturer one. Also if you ship with fedex/ups etc they'll charge you duty no matter if its a gift or not. They have a pretty low tolerance to mobile phones.
Fedex will definatly charge you because they use their own customs brokers to speed things up.
sometimes you get lucky.. the best one to use i find is UPS.

Transfer (credit) some money onto your credit card so that your balance is positive not negative or zero. Then make your purchase, remember to let your credit card company know you’re going to make the purchase as otherwise they might block it as an unusual transaction.
I used to do it all the time when I was a student as that gave me some additional protection. If you got some time, you can also apply for a credit card that gives you cash back. Barclaycard for example is currently offering 4% on purchases for 6 months. It all adds up!

Could be a scam.. but he takes paypal, which has 500 pounds protection.. and i'll definatly be paying by credit card which has its own protection.. So it makes no difference to me if he tries to scam me!
rorydaredkign/Darkfire - did u ask this guy any questions like his delivery time, waranty and spec of chargers etc?

Rory asked about delivery. It takes about 7-10 days apparently and it's done by 'dhl, ems or dpex'.
It does say 1 year warranty, and I don't think there's any information about the charger - that's a good point.

hmm dunno which one your looking at but he does accept paypal
hmm 7 to 10 days :( thats no use!
EDIT: There's 2 guys on there, both replied (i think they're just 2 usernames for the same china suplier). They said i can choose the spec (charger etc), and they ship 'dhl, ems or dpex'. He didn't answer my question about if i can specify ups/dhl/fdex express if i pay extra.
Sounds to me like they don't have them yet, and are waiting for the main stream release to distributers over there around 2nd June.
Anyway i messaged back, lets see
EDIT2:
they both replied.. one said ok buy it from the UK then.
The other guy said sorry the suplier is only dealing with standard shipping 7-10 days. They ship everywhere with EMS, and only use DHL for locatons EMS can't handle.
I'm gonna give this one a miss i think. 7 days htcdirect can deliver, and 10 days play.com can.

As long as you use a credit card these things are safe. You're always covered for fraud, non delivery etc. Just NEVER use a debit card when you're not sure.
Paypal protection is ok, but the thing i don't like about it is if they say NO you pretty much got no recourse. With credit cards you have alot more power.
It started of such a good day, but then since i ordered this i decided i beter get my sim card replaced. Its really worn out, and goes 'no sim' alot of the time. I'm sure you know what i'm talking about, the plastic coating on the plastic has peeled off making it thinner and the pads are dented!
I called t-mobile to tell them the sim card is broken, and i get no sim ocasionally. After the general explanation he says ok no problem we'll replace it, there will be a 10 pound charge.
I think its my fault for being so jovial on the phone with him, and when i objected he told me off for 'sniggering' at what he was saying. Well aparently i was sniggering anyway. I said i appologise but its an involuntry response to the rubish you are trying to feed me.
Anyway thats when i lost it. Politly, acuratly i explained to him that i pay T-Mobile for a service which is covered by a contract. In order to fulfil that contract t-mobile provide me with a SIM card that allows me to use the associated service. This sim card IS and remains t-mobile property. If this sim card or 'equipment' becomes faulty it is not my responsibility to repair or replace it, but T-Mobiles. He ranted on repeaiting his same rubish.
I told him ok then i refuse to pay you 10 pounds. Now i would like to see how you intend to provide me with the service you are contracually obliged to provide me.. i'm waiting?
Anyway he didnt budge, i told him to escalate it.. he said hold on let me check your account. When he came back he was half a man lol
I think he saw the times i had escalated to ofcom/their directors department and won damages. He might also have seen that i had VO'd a fair bit of their 2.5g network
anyway bottom line my new sim is on the way, but my old one gets disconnected some time today. I may actually have a HTC diamond by saturday, but no bloody sim to put in it!

Play.com is not too bad with shipping times. The only invonvenience is the fact that they only send to home address, whereas some other stores send to work addresses (some of them call you in the work to confirm that it's not a scam). Can you share the voucher code, please? :)

http://www.phonesource-usa.com/HTC-Touch-Diamond-In-Stock-P-492.htm
THEY DO NOT HAVE STOCK, but sell on eBay and on their website HTC Touch Diamond phones as IN STOCK ITEM. We have paid for the Diamond last week and now just received email from seller that they cannot ship till late next week due to low stock situation. This is rediculous! At this stage we have requested full refund and will be placing order with trusted seller.

Agreed. Pre-orders I've had from them previously (K800i, N95, PS3, PS3 Games) have arrived on on my doorstep on their stated release day. Of course, that means they had received the stock at their warehouses in advance, which may not be the way HTC do things...?

Ok that guys seems to be genuine enough and says he'll ship on monday. BUT he can't provide a VAT receipt, which means i can't claim back the VAT when its expensed against the business. So i canceled the order with him. EDIT: He gave me a full refund, so i'm pretty sure he's a genuine guy.
So after all that i'm just going to order from one of the big retailers..
I just did a quick google to see if there was a better price and found this:
http://www.totalpda.co.uk/HTC/HTC-Diamond.7291.html
Don't get too excited, i called them and its NOT in stock, but they'll get it on 9th June. They do next day delivery (city-link) which is better than play.com.
If you use this voucher 'TDOFF15' you get 15 pounds off. Which after shipping costs gives you a final price of 406.77
If you spend over 449 you can use 'TDOFF30' to get 30 pounds off. Might be worth picking up a memory card for your camera or something to tip the price over 449.
Oh and voucher expires may 31st, so hurry :)
EDIT: Forgot to mention they said that it was suposed to be 6th June, but the delivery was pushed back to 9th June. This might explain why some sites ares till listing 6th June (inkino etc)

The good thing about INKINO is that they do seem like people who they regularly financially rape. That might bring benefits in the future...
Also, to be fair, they are one of the best places for getting devices as soon as possible after they're released.

I mail them and they reply saying they are not getting it until the 11th. Wow that sucks! At least they don't charge you until its in stock.
Total PDA is now stock 11th, delivery 112th.
htcdirect.co.uk is still stock 6th
Inkino is still stock 6th
Most others are stock 9th
There's people on ebay who have it now, some HK, some in UK non UK spec, and some who claim to have UK spec.
If you go Tottenham Court road (or Edgware Road) you'll likely get a HK model (and pay more for it).
PS. it seems expansys (in stock for 500 quid) are selling imports lol, and HTC arent all that happy about it

Got mine on the 4th of June for $788 here http://www.pdaplaza.ca/shop.php?id=506&subcatid=57
Can to Euro works out to 492 euro
The UK version of pdaplaza has it for 529 euro.
529 euro's plus tax on top which brings it to the expansys price :(

Looks like engadget mobiles limited is in UK, so I'm assuming that must be 450 pounds, not US.

Please send me a mail to photchan@gmail.com - With one year GLOBAL WARRANTY (Certain countries only) and with original receipt from the CSL shop in Hong Kong. There's no such thing as "Global Warranty". Buyers should check with their local HTC for tech support issues.

Hi - Are you willing to wager? I have a global warranty that is valid in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, UK, and USA.
I have the card, and in fact i recently had it serviced in Singapore - but I bought it in Hong Kong.
Can take pictures of the warranty if so required so that you can read the fine print.

Thanks for your information photchan. You've clearly explained that warranty is only covered in those 5 countries, hence is not "Global"
So had your Diamond been serviced? Surprisingly you said it's "Shrink wrapped" .......

Ok let's break it down. I bought two units, one for myself and one for my wife who wants to continue using her nokia e65. So while in singapore my unit had some problems with the bluetooth, for which they did a software fix at the HTC Care shop there.
In regards to the warranty, HTC Calls it a "GLOBAL Warranty" and i had put in brackets that it only applies to certain countries and the receipt of the shop you bought it from must also state that it is covered by Global Warranty. My receipt from CSL does mention this.
Yes my wife's phone is still shrink-wrapped, never been opened. Photo of production date label and IMEI number is avaialble - and it is the exact unit you will receive.

Is this a safe site to buy the phone from? i have always been careful when buying items from ebay, so it will be my first experience...
its now 345 pounds to buy it now price (+15 pounds for transportation), and im hoping that it will avoid custom controlls..usually people on ebay send it as a gift to avoid this problem..im not sure if this guy will. Any ideas??

I've bought an Atom Life last year from him: my phone was there in 48 hours (from Hong Kong to Belgium) with UPS, and declared value was 100 USD, so I didn't have to pay any taxes.
Happy transaction for me!

Fully correct!
ANY device bought in or through Hong Kong ONLY carries Hong Kong Guarantee for example.
Why do you think they have so many different official ROM's?
My device, bought in Hong Kong, Made in Taiwan needs to be shipped back to HK, though I do LIVE in Taiwan...
as for pricing, do NOT buy at Hong Kong Intl Airport - too expensive.
Bought mine through Broadway at 5650 HKD which is cheaper than here in TW where it is now sold at 23.500 New Taiwan Dollar.
