View Full Version : Fix for freezes WWE official 6.1 (only if using HardSPL) - Confirmed

I did not use Jockey's unlocker. I just took out my SIM and SD card. Loaded up Jump 1.93 (used 1.93 because the original post somewhere said that was the updated AT&T one) dc/c and reconnected and flashed SPL successfully.
OK... I was asking because most people can use SSPL but some people get a white screen. The solution to the white screen is to use JumpSPL, but as I stated I also find that if my SD card is in I never get the USB message on the bootloader screen.
I don't think anyone has figured out yet why some people get the white screen and have to take these extra steps....

When I tried 1.56 when I had the SD card in I got the USB message on the bootloader screen, but it did not work. When I used 1.93 with the SD card in I got no USB message and again, it did not work. Once the card was removed 1.93 worked, I would imagine the other/s would as well.

I can confirm this:
I had to return a few Tilts, and each was successfully reverted to factory status using SSPL and the original ROM/Radio. HardSPL had been installed on these previously without problem. My latest replacement wouldn't HardSPL like all the previous ones had. The white screen was solved using the JumpSPL (v1.56), and HardSPL has been on it ever since. Wanted to update my SPL to the 6.1 version because L26 v4 was running extremely laggy. Followed the standard instructions using SSPL (which hadn't previously been done on this phone), and got to a white screen. Remembering that this phone had needed the "alternate" method to achieve HardSPL, I tried the JumpSPL that had helped me HardSPL it in the first place. This time it made it to the tri-color screen, but then hung at "0%" when I attempted to load the 6.1 SPL. Now I'll try JumpSPL v1.93, which appears to work for everyone, and report back.
I hope this helps anyone with their diagnosis.
UPDATE
Took out both SIM and MicroSD cards, ran JumpSPL v1.93 (instead of SSPL or JumpSPL v1.56) from the phone, unplugged/replugged when I got to the bootloader, flashed the new 3.28 SPL, verified the flash. IT WORKED. Will now see if it makes any difference at all to 6.1 ROM performance...
I really think that the thread that describes how to revert to a stock ROM needs an addendum for those people who had to use a different method to install HardSPL initially due to the white screen. For them, SSPL will also generate a white screen. I'm not sure which version of JumpSPL would help someone "downgrade" successfully to the original AT&T SPL, but only v1.93 was adequate here to "upgrade" to SPL 3.28.

I did... just wanted to confirm that the extracted SPL found here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1572072&postcount=1) (AT&T Only/Feb 14, 2008) is the appropriate 6.1 version. Thanks.
See post 73 in this thread.

I think the reason that the old JumpSPL never goes beyond 0% is I'm not sure that the USB is properly initializing...but not sure on that.
Also, for anyone else doing these procedures, I have tested many times and found that removal of SIM card is unnecessary but SD card is a must (with JumpSPL 1.93).
Also, to answer your last question, yes this procedure works for all SPLs I have switched between all of them about 10 times over the last 2 days :)
And now a question from me... is that Crusader in your sig? :D

The helmet didn't look quite right...also wasn't Bobba Fett green? The helmet isn't quite right for Crusader either, but at least he was red.
BTW...Crusader was a series of games back in the DOS/early windows days that were sweeeeet.

Thanks Dave, do you mean I should try the hard-spl from the link given first? The white screen is caused by different display driver version right, as far as I know, mine is the earlier batches.

Try the one from the link in your post. You only need to follow the White screen steps if you get a white screen, if your on an earlier batch then you should be OK.

I used the SPL extracted from the nbh of the official wm6.1 build which reverted my SPL back to the official one. You won't be able to flash a custom ROM anymore, until you install HardSPL again.
There's been a lot of talk about flashing HardSPL, loading a custom ROM, going back to official SPL, repeat...
Wouldn't if make more sense to avoid HardSPL for now instead? If you use something like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=375583 to set CID to 00000000, doesn't that already let you flash any ROM you want?

You must have Hard SPL to follow those steps. It flashes a custom radio by Olipro to your device, and you can't do that without Hard SPL.
I don't think that would work if you then reverted the SPL to the OEM one. The Hard SPL does more than just CID unlocks a device.
My 2cents :)

Yes, I realize you'd need HardSPL once to follow the procedure. What I'm wondering is whether you still need a hacked SPL after completing the procedure.
The only other things I know these SPLs do are:
1. Preventing the SPL from getting overwritten if you try to flash a new one - but we don't want that now.
2. In the case of Jockey's version, support for AT commands - but not too many of us really use that.
It just seems riskier to keep going back and forth. On the other hand, I could be mistaken about the 0 CID thing.

Wow, you really derailed the thread there for a bit. It's a clone commando. Kinda like Boba Fett's clone "brother," I guess. But oh-so-much cooler. ;)
I always used to read Star Wars books because they were simple Sci-Fi romps and easy reads, but the Republic Commando series (like the X-Wing series before it) are gritty military books that really do SW a great service. Getting into the psyche of a soldier who only knows training, looks like all his comrades, and sees the "real world" for the first time is a treat (as was getting into the day-to-day life of an X-Wing pilot). I know, I know...

The ROM runs fine, just don't want to find out the hard way if I did put the original SPL on the phone and try and load a ROM....any suggestions?

I have extract the hardspl from the french htc official rom.
but now i'm unable to flah this rom on my phone. I've got an error 296.
My device seems to be not recognize ...
Perhaps this is because my Kaiser is not from htc but from SFR a french operator.
If someone can help me.

I think that you do not need hard-spl anymore, but I didn't try so I'm not sure. Anyway if you flash just hard-spl you can 100% revert to manufacturer in case of warranty. But if you do super cid you can't. That's why flashing hard-spl is still best thing if you want to change rom. But then official spl for peace of mind :)

Took me a couple of times:
1. Connect to activesync
2. Run JumpSPL
3. Disconnect USB
4. Reconnect
5. Run KaiserCustomRUU.exe
the first two time it sat at 0% and wouldn't work... then like magic it worked the third time... no hard reset for me *whew*
Phone feels a little bit better... still playing with it...
It bloody worked. Finally. Thank you, sir! I hope this does the trick with the freezing for me as it did for so many here.

I'm using Leo's V4 rom. I had a number of problems like not being able to get PCMKeyboard to stick, having activesync problem (cannot sync) but since had gotten rid of all this 2 problems. Problems were due to a diamond comm manager cab and my personalization cab.
Now, I'm not sure if I'm facing this freezing problem discribed by many on this thread. It was mentioned to flash HTC SPL 3.28.0000. I know that the best way to confirm was to do a tri-color on my HTC TyTN II but since most of my problems had disappeared, I'm not so keen to do it. Then I recalled that whenever I do a SR, at the bottom of the screen, I can see the last line stating SD: 3.28.00.00 so does that mean that I'm already using HTC SPL 3.28.0000?
Before using Leo's V4 rom, I had installed the new HTC WM 6.1 WWE shipped rom but found it very unresponsive. By doing that, had the HTC SPL 3.28.0000 stayed with my TyTN II? I did not do any HardSPL before I installed Leo's V4 rom.

To see what SPL you are using, just put your phone into Bootloader Mode and read the screen.... It should either Say 1.00oliprof or whatever SPL you flashed. The 3.28.00.00 is built into the ROMS features not the SPL .

Hi !
By freeze i mean: tap the screen or press keys and nothing happens for 2-5 seconds. This would happen to me about once every 2 minutes.
This is what i did:

I have been using the Kaiser for about 30 min and no freeze.
It was not my idea that it was a SPL issue, someone mentioned this in a thread about the leaked WWE 6.1 (which is identical to the official WWE one)
edit1: This only applies if you installed HardSPL
edit2: Thanks to shafez for being the first to think about this. Apparently i was trying it at the same time as him, so i didn't know he also posted the results, that's why i started the thread as soon as saw the fix worked.

Hi Guys,
Just wanted to say thanks for the fix. This worked great after flashing to the HTC WWE 6.1 edition, no more slowdowns!!
I did have to use jumpspl, otherwise I'd just get a white screen on reboot, but other than that she's working great.
It's nice to have a smokin fast device again, now if only something about these video drivers could be fixed :p

I was able to narrow the problem down, it seems to actually be caused by MS Voice command. After installing msvc, the phone reboots, and after that clicking 'settings' on the start menu locks the phone up, as well as the lockup/reboots at other seemingly random times.
I used the msvc_us_ppc_1.6.17913.cab downloaded from dutty's site. I don't know if there's another version available of that, or something that needs to be done on the phone to correct the crash, I'll check out the voice command threads.

Thank you in advance...
No, the SPL Line should read "SPL-3.28.Hard" or "SPL-3.29.Hard".
Go back to the new HardSPL thread and read the FAQ carefully, everything has been condensed and all of the info you need is there.
Also, your question really belonged there not here..

It now says SPL-3.29.Hard
Guess I got it right...thanks for the direction. I told you I had rookie status...I'll eventually figure out the forum.

Just wanted to say thanks to the OP.
using the SPL extracted from the HTC WM6.1 ROM fixed my "freezing" (unresponsive screen taps). Been going good now for over 24hours.

Dear people,
I bought a HTC tytn II which had used the Dutty ROM's. Recently released official ROM ITA I installed successfully.
Coming from P3600 I thought the flash ROM new lists also hardspl back, but reading the various topic I realized that this is not the case.
My tytn II has always been affection (it's my one month) from the freeze.
Put yourself in boatloader values are
KAIS130 M6F
SPL-1.0.Olipof
CPLD-8
I doubt that these values are those for the original guarantee: how can I possibly do to bring everything new? First with the P3600 enough flashing with Roma original.
In this regard I read a topic (about how to bring the SPL origin, but I think this is a fairly complicated procedure: someone has already prepared the files for the execution so we avoid making mistakes?
The error is lurking and read a lot of people who have done his tytn a brick for having improperly used sensitive procedures such as. mtty.
Please have patience for both my questions from the neophyte tytn II and for my bad English.
THANKS and sorry

I am frustrated here. I have an att tilt with L26 V5 diamond ROM on it. I like the rom I flashed Hard SPL 3.29 and I still have screen freezing, I mean really bad freezing. I had one of L26 roms before, non diamond and it didn't freeze this bad. Can somebody help or i'm gonna have to dump this ROM. Thanks guys.

Have you tried the 3.28 SPL. Is this any better?
EDIT:
The FAQ in the 3.* SPL thread explains the differences between 28 and 29. It isn't just that 29 is newer. There are other differences

I've installed V5 yestarday and had the screen freeze problem worse than previous V4. It seems to be gone after installing HardSPL 3.29. Try 3.28.

Personally I think true performance gains are hard to quantify with benchmarks. I do believe that between using a fixed 16mb pp and some cache reg tweaks my devices are operating better than out of the box config.

Dear all
Finally, after many time reading this thread, and follow some links to some other threads, I can't find the way of getting rid of freezes.
I'm french, and use back the original rom from HTC WM6.1 on a TyTN II.
Is there someone able to resume all the necessary tips to get a good working TyTN II, including usefull links ?
Thanks in advance to this wonderfull person... I wait for this help, like many others !

i did everything the OP said to do to try and resolve my screen freeze issues.
1) I flashed the OEM rom that came with my Tilt.
2) Flashed the Old and New ATT Spl's thinking if 1 didn't fix the issue, the other 1 could.
3) the ran SPPL-KAIS to Hard SPL so i could flash a custom Rom.
4) Flashed [Jun 07] Dutty's Diamond V1 Build 19588.
5) Hard SPL'd 3.28, and 3.29 assuming it could fix the problem. No Luck.
Should i try flashing the new 3.56 SPL or do I need to go ahead and reflash the Original SPL from the OEM rom?

Flashing to the OEM SPL's should not be required, the Hard SPL's do the same, but also allow flashing.
I suggest a Hard Reset / Re-flash if you still have freezes with 3.28 and Dutty's 7 Jul ROM.

Hello to you men of goodwill
initially I say that I read the whole topic and I have some clear steps perhaps due to translation from English to Italian. I am not a neophyte but even a programmer. I come from a P3600 that worked well and could easily make flash
from 1 month I have a tytn II ITA with the following situation
Original HTC ROM ITA 6.1
in bootloader I
KAIS130 M6F
SPL.1.0.OliPof
CPLD-8
I do not know how to present the tytn II for the guarantee
my tytn II now freeze
What should I do?
I have to install hspl 3.28 (3.29)?
if I have to install a Hreset should I do next?
Otherwise you tell me what do I no longer the freeze that I was tired?
Very much grateful for your patience.
excuse my bad translation:)
EDIT
then I read this topic "HardSPL v3.28, v3.29 and v3.56 by JockyW " and I have finally understood that I must install HSPL 3.28 but I did not understand if I must also install sspl?
SSPL what?
I confirm that date with hspl 3.28 not have riflash the ROM?
Thank you
EDIT2
Right way to install HardSPL
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are many people asking how to install HardSPL v3.56. So I'd like to share my experience, as follows:
- Connect your Kaiser with the PC by cable, wait until the ActiveSync icon does not move (should be green).
- Copy file SSPL-KAIS.exe onto your Kaiser and run it. Your device gets bootloader screen with 3 colors.
- Unplug your cable and the ActiveSync icon becom gray (it needs to be like this) then replug the cable again.
- Now you can run the HardSPL and your Kaiser will get SPL-3.56.Hard after doing these steps for sure!

I just ran into a very intresting problem - beyond what I've seen anyone report here. My problems with the screen freezes and delays was short lived and went right into a total whackedness of the touch screen response. Basically, I'd not get any response from my touch screen. I was running HardSPL 3.29. Hard resets, ROM reflashes, New roms, nothing would fix the issue. I could take my battery out of the unit and after 24 hours I could maybe do a calibration and then shortly after the screen would start screwing up and eventually go unreponsive again. I thought for sure it was the digitizer (and actually ordered a new one) until I found this thread.
I installed the original ATT SPL, without a different ROM and without a hard reset, and my problems magically disappeared. I'm tempted to stick with this SPL but the adventurous side of me wants to move to the 3.56.

Some freezes came after the update.
Now, using 3.28 SPL; it works fine.

I followed the instructions as in the post reported.

Like most people here I'm suffering the same freeze issues under wm6.1.
I bought my tytn ii/vario iii from ebay with 6.1 already installed. The phone is said to be unlocked already (phones a MDA vario III, t-mobile). its boots up with the "HTC" splash screen. So i suspect its an office rom that's been installed. I've read through the posts and my head is spinning a little i just want to know with my present set up what would be the best procedure blow by blow on how to correct the freezing with my particular set up.
info:
rom version: 3.28.405.0 WWE
rom date : 05/02/08
radio version 1.65.16.25

Boot into your SPL (aka bootloaded / tri-colour screen). This can be done by pressing the camera button and re-starting.
What SPL is listed there? It should probably be 3.* (where * is a number).
If not, look in the jockyw2001 thread containing the new 3.* Hard SPL's. Here --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396922

Seems everyones able to do this other than me...I've had about 5 different PDA from psion, palm and pocket pc, so its not like i'm totally clueless about using them.
Any way, i followed the instructions to the letter in post #2 both ways of doing it. I've run sspl-kais.exe from memory on the vario III. got the bootscreen up, waited for usb to appear, unchecked activesync so there's no click next to "allow usb connections". unplugged the device for a few seconds as stated and ran kaisercustomruu.exe from the pc, the one that was in the zip archive with the nbh file in the same directory.
first confusing thing is the program says activesync should be activated though the tutorial says it shouldn't be. When you go to the next page it says image version but has nothing there. Then next page asks you if you want to update image version " " to image version 1.00.00.0
its at this point i stopped as it doesn't seem to be able to read info from the phone. also i've notice a "errorusb" file appear in the Kaisercustomruu.exe directory which disappears once the program is shut.
since i don't really want to brick my phone unless i know thats what suppose to happen then it would be silly of me to go any further and commit to a flash.

All that is fine. I have just followed the steps of your and I too have an ErrorUSB.fig file in the folder. Running the RUU extracts some files, which are later deleted, don't worry about it. And the missing Image info is fine. I suspect the SPL doesnt contain this info. If the RUU has trouble reading from the phone an error will be displayed before now. So carry on with what you were doing... :)

i've found another idea for lag and freeze :
Memory free for program :
i try many rom WWE with only ~50Mo of free memory on 85Mo ( 85Mo ? pagepool dynamic take 6Mo ?? ) and all rom with any hard spl or original spl have same problem : freeze and lag ...
i had just tried Nothrills rom without any modification on the memory , so i've ~70Mo free of memory and have no menu freeze or lag, rom is extremely fast
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2396963&postcount=67
I don't think it's the SPL but the memory allow for prog. All lasted rom have only 85Mo ( for 101Mo on Nothrill rom ).
Try his rom and you will see the difference.
I use Hard SPL 3.29 without freeze and lag
and a build rom 19202

i use JockyW Hard-SPL with this rom, but in first post hard SPL is in cause of lag and freeze and after my test all rom with low memory free have freeze and lag ( with any hard spl and original SPL ) and with this rom without memory modification i've no freeze and lag.
Maybe if any cooker ( other than nothrills ) try to recover a large amount of memory for program, on next cooked rom, maybe we'll can see the difference on them too :)
i'm sure at 100% that it's not the SPL in cause.. but a low memory for prog

Well if you're too lazy to read the titles of the top 5 threads on this page and figure out which one is about the newer version of hardspl that were made to fix this issue, then i hope that everyone ignores your question. Around here the rules are READ, SEARCH, and THEN post. If you want a place to come and demand that people GIVE you information that you can easily find yourself, then you are at the wrong site. If you don't want to read about hardspl, then why would you want to change the spl on your device?

that's ok... I have been here long enough to know that I need to search before posting for help. I know where to find HardSPL and the rest of the stuff. Obviously it's in the stickies and I wouldn't have asked if that was what I was looking for.
What I'm looking for is for some specific files that somebody uploaded, and that's why I asked.
If you are bored (which I suppose you are since you take your time to post those super funny pictures), check how many times I asked for help, and how many I helped people.
Anyway, that doesn't matter... it's much easier just to answer 'hey! use the search!'.... 'oh! another noob looking for the same thing' and things like that without thinking twice about what the person really needed.

Whilst I don't have the files there is a way you can get them yourself.
The RUU_Kaiser_HTC_WWE_3.28.405.0_radio_sign_25.83.40. 02_1.65.16.25_Ship can be found here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=393535).
The process of extracting the OEM SPL can be found here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=335568).
SSPL and KaiserCustomRUU are everywhere and you probably have those already.
Hope this helps and good luck :)
Thanks
Dave

Thanks, Dave. That was I needed. I was searching for the extracted files, that's why I couldn't find them.

Have you upgraded your Hard SPL?
If you are using WM6.1 you should be using the 3.* versions by jockyw2001.

I have *only* re-flashed the provided HTC SPL 3.28 and my device seems working ok with less freezes, since I can't flash my Kaiser in office, I just want to have a better idea of this solution.
I checked earlier pages of this thread the solution includes patching of the Page Pool size, so... does this means I need to:
1. grab any wm6.1 rom
2. use the patch on the rom
3. flash the rom again
Or I can patch directly without flashing the rom again?
Is this correct?
Thanks.

You need to re-flash the patched ROM with a new PP. You used to be able to change the PP of your current ROM with the Artemis, but no-one has found a way on the Kaiser.
Did you know you can upgrade Hard SPL via SD Card? You might be able ot do that in office :p
