The stars are for financial donations but Olinex's unlocker is free to anyone that has a record of helping people either here or at Modaco OR donates financially. It is only not free to freeloaders who are expected to make a donation rather than just leech.

This isn't entirely true...while my post count may not be high, I have been Beta testing ROMS, doing graphic design work for Chef's and helping countless people thru PMs about how-to flsh their device as well as ow to fix white-screen problems with their Hermes...
Olinex quite simply directed me to his website...where I payed for the unlocker....my phone is now unable to recieve incoming calls.
I am far from a freeloader or a leacher & I am in no way saying that Olinex's unlocker doesn't work...I'm just saying be careful...if ur phone ain't broke...you know the rest.

Did you explain that to Olinex? I am fairly certain he wouldn't have charged you if he'd known (but, of course I can't be sure).

Sorry guys, not trying to do anyone out of a livelihood. I got to the other site via google... had no way of knowing it was stolen from oli. I haven't even got the phone yet... just checking out how easy it will be to unlock once i do.
If I understood everything i've read here and other places correctly... I need to
- buy the unlock program off oli
- then copy the 11 "HardSPL 1.40" files to the root directory of the phone
- Run DiamonCustRUU.exe on the PC
- The phone will go dead for few secs... then come back to life
- I then copy Diamunlock.exe to the root directory of the phone and run it from the phone
- don't quite get wot's supposed to happen next but presumably it will ask me for IMEI code or something
- Then the phone works like new but now unlocked? (fingers crossed)
Is that more or less as it is?
Is there anything else I should know?
Whats the chance of being left with a dead phone?
Thanks
Shair

Not sure of the exact procedure but Oli will give you full instructions.
The chance of ruining your device? As close to zero as it's possible to be. The Olinex does not release anything that is dangerous and they are very good at recovering from even the most idiotic of users stupidity - but it is very difficult to screw up enough to even need there help.

Olinex's instructions are very straightforward & simple to follow.
If you follow the steps correctly you should have no problems - hope it all works out OK for you. Just remember that while the chances of ruining your device are incredibly slim...there IS always a risk...
Thanks Confucious...I made Oli aware with a PM, but obviously it wasn't enough in his eyes.
Cheers all & good flashing...

Did you flash a new radio after you used the unlocker? I'm not sure the patched radio works for making calls?

This is the supposed leaked Oli version that everyone is talking about. It has an issue where it only gives you a very brief amount of time to press a button and then it crashes.
....
this "fast close" thing is already patched :)

I am not a damn moron to pay a single penny to anyone for unlocking my phone - why the hel is it locked in the first place. I'm from Canada, and a bill is coming out that all carriers will have to unlock customers phones after contract expires or customer leaves the company.
No friking way, how much do you spend of that $50 to get the code? (reffering to those sites in general, who don't do any hard work like Oli&Nex!).
EXACTLY!
And to the guy calling people NOOBS, you are dumb - those people don't WANT TO PAY, like ME (maybe when I can I will donate to where it's due)! I'm dissabled ATM and lost my job, Rogers cancelled my phone because they charged me $600 for data I never used, then gave my number away. Now I'm trying to use pay as you go, and I'd rather spend the cash on the minutes,

...back...AND done, thanks to the same XDA team that created the process and s/w needed to get it done that could even be what you're using, forgive me if I'm wrong. I will gladly donate to XDA Team and thank other great people coming in here to prove that we can - the hard way, and not the easy cash way, even if everyone had it atm. I reckon this is not a home to Apple's mentality. Having followed the amazing path this community has taken since WinMo to Xdandroid, spending hours and pulling most of my hair out, I've now got WinMo 6.5.1 and Froyo on my Diamond - now sim unlocked for free. Thank You XDA I owe you a few!
Once I get my NI Adam, I know that you've got our backs already, having opened a separate Adam forum.
Anyway, if I can Google, anyone can Google and get it done in less than 5 mins - just make sure you have the hard spl 1.4 (proven) installed before updating radio and good luck.
