flagship devices
de to an ongoing "discussion" in diamond about what a flagship device is, i thought id start a poll about which devices were flagship devices when released.

Flagship devices are decided upon by HTC - not us. Just search for "flagship" on their website, and see which devices come up.

i just thought id say that some of the devices there are placebos, in that i thought id add some that arent exactly in the running to be flagship devices seeing as they were released when there were technologically better devices available.

It'll be interesting to compare the results of this with the official list.

I think Diamond is the flagship right now. Kaiser is slowly getting "old". Diamond has accelerometers, so thats just cool. Its already preped for WM7.

I agree. I think that, at least in the US, the Hermes was much more of flagship in its time than the Kaiser/Tilt is now. Hermes was much more of a jump in tech from the Wizard than the Kaiser is from the Hermes.
The Touch Diamond is packing HTC's newest and greatest tech, so I'm sure it will be the company's flagship for some time to come.

What for the next six months! Because that’s the rate at which they are releasing their touch range of devices at the moment!

Yeah, I know. They seem to have a new, "latest and greatest" HTC phone every few months.
Personally I'm leaning towards jumping the HTC ship and getting a Sony Ericsson X1. That big screen and metal case look nice...plus I'd miss my sliding qwerty with a Touch line.

It should be noted that the Touch family has been designed with one-handed operation in mind, unlike any similar devices (as far as I'm aware). Bigger touchscreens and keyboards require both hands to be used easily, which means that they interrupt other things more.

If I was concerned with full time one handed operation, I wouldn't be using a Hermes right now.
As it is, everything about the Touch that made it so one hand friendly has been made available, via the excellent people on this site, to those of us who have the landscape sliders. If the mood should strike me, I could leave my Hermes closed permanently and just use the on screen keyboards and what not. With only one hand; that's what I do when I'm driving.
An analogy I thought of is like this: You're buying a pick up truck, and the V8 (400mhz Hermes/Kaiser) gets the same miles to the gallon (one handed operation, same screen size) as the V6 (200mhz Touch), yet the V8 can tow and do more (full slide out qwerty, stronger processor). Why not get the V8? Likewise, why limit myself to a one-hand centric Touch when a landscape slider can do both? It can function as a one-handed soft keyboard device, but it can also slide open landscape-wise and get down to some serious E-Mail and document composition when it's needed to.

Hmm...But you forget, both in your analogy and in real life, the increased size, cost and weight.

Cost on these new WM biggies is negligible. They slated to be very close in price.
But I'm with you on the size and weight thing. The Diamond is a sleek little phone.

No need to jump ship, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 is actually made by HTC!

Really? That's sweet, I didn't know that.
I'll see how the two feel next to one other. I've decided to go with the X1, and my wife will be getting the Diamond, so I'll be able to play with both of them.

Actually the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 is virtually no bigger than the last touch phone the O2 Orbit2 / HTC Polaris / Touch Cruise, so no additional bulk to carry if you’re upgrading from them. And much smaller if it’s an upgrade from the TyTn range.
When compared to the Diamond, the extra 0.5 cm gives you a larger screen, bigger battery, and expandable memory along with the keyboard, a good trade off in my book!
Hey even the just the optional larger extended battery for the Diamond will probably add that much extra bulk.

As beautifu as the Diamond is, it cant be a flagship device, not with the HTC Touch Pro release date imminent, just by pure specs alone, that makes it HTC's next flagship device
