well im sitting on the fence atm.
the X1 is also made by HTC so hacking it to bits will be fine as its got a similar bootloader and rom structure as other HTC devices.
the specs of the x1 are promising....

X1 seems to have the same problem as Kaisers. When you go from portrait to landscape it takes too long. I'm using a fast rom which corrects that, but I'm not sure how the Sony will work.

Videos like that have forced me to not even think about it. Go with the Diamond if you have the cash to dish it out.

the concept of the X1 is stupid to me. i just dont get why you need different idle screen for different places, like who is really gonna move locations and be like "o im not at home anymore, let me go on my phone and change my desktop." Its really not that serious. All i need is one screen to get Sh!t done, not nine. its a big waste of time and proccessing power, and ram IMO

i like everything about the diamond except for its lack of a full hardware qwerty keyboard. after seeing that video of the X1, i was actually really disappointed, and the diamond seems great, but i dont htink i can live without the keyboard lol. ill give it time, who knows maybe the diamond interface (manila) can be pulled to the X1 when it comes out, cuz really, thats the one think that sets the diamond apart. processing power is on par with the X1, ram i belieave is equal. im not sure about the X1 graphics but if it can run manilla, then i know what im getting.

Yes, I thought X1 was pretty cool at first, the specs and all, but then if you think about it, have like 6 or 9? virtual desktops is pretty redundant, and is basically a fancier task manager. I am sure it must have better uses, but so far, it seems that's the only thing that they have facelift, if they were to have the facelifts in the Home Screen like the Diamond, then I'd say X1 is better, because of the bigger screen. Just my opinion...

If you have the money to just upgrade to a new phone when you see a new one you like you might as well wait for the X1.
Personally though, I don't see the jump to the Diamond or X1 worth it when Android and Windows Mobile 7 are just around the corner.

i want micoSD not just for storage upgrades but also for SDIO cards which can bring new functionality to a device
so i'd rather get X1

I completely agree. The multiple desktops are a nice idea, but I don't think that they have much practical advantage over a single desktop. TouchFLO, meanwhile, has been proved to be useful. Also, as a keyboard-hater, for me the X1 simply doesn't stand a chance compared to the Touch Diamond.

I think they're two different devices. The X1 may only seem a little bit bigger, but its all about 'volume' with phones, and 5 or 10mm in each direction ends up alot bigger.
The X1 sounds like its going to be faster if you remove the fluff and use it seriously, but then if you're considering the diamond, you're just as interested in looks and flash as the hardware.
I know the X1 should look alot better in real life (there's alot of metal), but i really hate that triangle/square button look on the bottom.
Its diamond for me i think.. but ask me again in september.. i might have a diamond for sale :)

Maybe the MDA Vario IV is more appropriate comparison to the Xperia X1 than the Diamond.

if they used that 9 screen plugin as a taskmanager instead of virtual desktops id be imppressed. That be THE best multitasking tool out, even better than most computer setups

Don’t get your hopes up just yet, as I think it’s just a today screen plugin that changes the home screen to presets. So not that useful, it’s also very laggy at the moment, but no one has seen it on 256MB RAM

Does anyone know if the Xperia has a flat bezel, like the touch devices? I find that touchpal allows for faster typing than a keyboard and its great for one handed use. Their new verision allows for precise input. If the xperia one has a flat bezel id pick it. I really dont think it does so i wont get it.
As for the SD slot. i have an 8gig micro sd and i have yet to use more than 2 gigs of it.

Yes its flat.
The plot thickens. Might as well wait to see what everyone else complains about. I will go with the one that has the least amount of complaints. Was just about to jump ship to the iphone if they didnt get their video act together. Seen video on the Diamond and it looks a bit choppy. Check the review on coolsmartphone.com

Spoke too soon. It says almost completly flat so its not flat like the touch. Sucks...

The software on the X1 is not final, so complaining about lag is misdirected. I'm sure it will be a lot faster come release date.

i was on a microsoft event in sweden two days ago and had the benifit testing both sony ericson x1 and samsung omnia. im writing this from a touch diamond.
about myself; im a software architect engineer and interaction designer/dashboard professional.
first about the omnia vs diamondb the omnia feels much lighter then it looks. thats good and bad since the touch feels heavier and gives a more quality feeling but i think its a question of taste. the touch wiz ui is extreamly responsive and i got a little bit envy actually. the omni custom inner menus felt wery good and finger friendly. diamond have standard mobile windows program and settings menus.
the contact book was also better, less cluttier then diamonds. though i like more diamonds shape and the feeling plus the home menu tf3d gives more interaction then omnias sidebars. i think adding omnias contacts and program settings to diamond is the best combination but thats not possible today.
x1. amazing screen, very light in the hand and youll feel the metal as exclusive. the ui is a bit dissapointing. reminds me more of htc tytn ii then diamond oor omnia. the ui was faster the those youtube videos ive seen so far but the truth is that x1 ui is cluttry theres simply too much stuff shown at once. llooking more inside its pure windows mobile abbnd very little custom programs like omnia or diamond. i was hoping for a better calendar since its a sony ericsson and i love the week view in p1i but the used same bad windows calendar as omnia and diamond.
i think omnias ui would do better on x1 since the x1 screen is amazing. x1 feels also slimmer in the pocket comparing to omnia. so my summary is if you prefere a small phone, go for diamond. if you want multimedia and battery life, go for x1. if you comprimize and want a simple ui then i would go for omnia. i prefere the size and as i said, i envy omnias ui but not the size. but i would not choose x1 since i dislike windows mobile ui and havnt any use of a keyboard. this is just my oppinion so chose with your heart. cheers

imo the touch pro kicks the crap out of the SE... the x1 does have a slightly larger screen tho.
and @ glamoureus thanx for your comments, but just one thing why don't you use the smart dialling feature for your contacts... this is when u bring up the phone screen and start typing in your contacts name on the keypad (T9 text style) and you contacts search and pop up on the top of the screen instantly - best contacts system i have ever used.
also the diamond does not have only the standard programs menu... the last tab on TF3d > programs is a nice menu, no?

Yupp, your right, the last tabs program is nice, the only problem is that the list gets too long so the 3X3 matrix is better ( by the way, IPhones start screen is horrible with a matrix of what, 5x7 icons, way to many)
I haven't actually used the smart dial function yet, i'm using the favorites but overall, omnias contact list is cleaner and requires less interaction since you have one unified look and this is really more a matter of taste, if you digg the speeddial, use the speeddial. :)

well i dont know why i wrote this above but i just love the diamond i cant think of any other phone except the diamond. i have other 5 nokia phones n95 8gb 6220 classic n73 6300 black and 6310i and the iphone 3g but i dont use them at all. They are worth quite lot of money i am thinking of selling them to buy a second diamond. just thought i would express my love for the diamond to other members.
