Hi,

I've upgraded to WM6.1 and I noticed the text disappears when I'm in landscape mode. Don't tell me "disable cleartype", I have already made it.
See my screenshots.

Someone already fix this bug ?

Hey.

Apparently it's fixed in this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=395555. I don't know how, though.

Did you go into kaisertweaks and disable cleartype in PIE, cause a lot of roms have that enabled by default, and it works even if you go into settings and disable cleartype.

Great help! You must understand that there are different issues with the landscape text problem. Somehow L26 Diamond v4 fixed most of the isseus.
But as I mentioned in that thread it still has problems using AgendaOne.

So there is not 1 single solution for tihs.

My guess would be that it's because of some DLL's since in the V4 ROM there are some improvements. But no one seems to know how it actually works.

Therefore I'm back to the 'old' Hybrid ROM by Dutty.

Stupid question, but after you disabled the ClearTypes, did you soft reset?

MickyMax

Not stupid but I have already made a soft-reset

so wheres the fix for this?

Since it appears you are the only person having this problem i would recommend that you try flashing the rom again, and then when you reach the alignment screen (very firs screen with any user interaction after flashing) then perform a hard reset. This has been know to clear up the "random oddness" for some people. Otherwise, i would say you're gonna have to find someone else with this problem to see how they fixed it, because as of now you're the only one who has it. Sorry we couldn't help.

I have the same issue w/ the latest 6.1 official rom (I think I didn't have that w/ 6.0 before).

The solution is disable landscape cleartype by

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \System\GDI \ClearTypeSettings]
"OffOnRotation"=dword :1

the real solution is to replace some .dll's and recook the rom. that is the proper way to fix this issue.

Can you tell me which DLL to replace please ? So when the dll's are replaced, we can have cleartype in landscape too ? :D
Someone can test this cab please ? It's ugly but it seems to solve my problems :)

I had the identical issue. You have already been given the solution but it sounds like you did it wrong. Installed the latest Advanced Config, then disable Cleartype in *Landscape* mode, not in "PIE" as you said. Once you do that and soft reset the problem is gone.

If you still have the issue, is the text you can see in landscape mode using Cleartype? Does it have rounded antialiased edges? If so then you have not yet disabled Cleartype.

Guys,...

this is all very well.. But since I actually WANT ClearType in Landscape, it's not an option to "just" disable it...
I think text is ugly and unreadable if not using ClearType, but that may just be me..

Anyhow, if there actually is a proper solution to this, and not just the lame answer "Search and you'll find", I'd for one, would be happy to hear.

Btw, I also have blank menus when I enable ClearType in Landscape..still...I want ClearType! :p

Sorry dude, that is the only solution so sadly asking for another won't materialise another. I know it can be frustrating but your only option otherwise is go back to an earlier ROM.

I'm not "sadly asking for a solution". I'd like to know what is needed for the "replacing DLL's and cooking a new ROM" solution, then I could try to see if I could get it to work. But it seems to be a big secret.

It's not a secret, there are lots of threads on rom cooking. It's not really just a simple solution. it will take lots of reading and trial and error. best of luck!

What it does is exactly what I posted previously of modify the registry key OffonRotation to 1. Which mean turn off cleartype on landscape mode. I am still waiting an answer from austinsnyc (http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=448940) since he seems to know the real solution to keep cleartype under landscape mode.

And I have the same problem, too. BTW, have the same Problem with the official ROM or cooked ROM with PocketInformant from Feb. 28. The field in a contact which is actually marked by the cursor is not shown. That's very annoying.

Same here with cleartype disabled and standard ROM from HTC wm6.1 (dutch).
I have seen this only in Agenda One and Pocket Informant 8. The standard Pocket Outlook does not have the problem...

I'll bet you have cleartype enabled. I mean on the programs you've mentioned. Check your settings. AgendaOne and PocketInformant allow you to enable\disable cleartype apart from the OS settings ;)

And my newbe status is proven... :o
With cleartype off (tested in Agenda One), the text remains visible.
Thank you

I had exactly the same problem in PIE with official HTC WM6.1 on CHT rom.

I can confirmed if ClearType in PIE is disabled, then all texts in Text input box and combo box appear.

If ClearType is ENABLED in PIE, then text input and Combo box text all disappear...

I have system Cleartype disabled

Further investigation shows, no matter what program, as long as they enable ClearType, Text input and Combo box text all disappear in Landscape mode (Portriate works fine) w. I think we have a "ClearType in Landscape" bug in Official WM6.1 rom... (Maybe in the ClearType Engine or some sort?)

Any one come up with a solution (via .cab?)

This is a know bug. And there seems to be no solution for it now.
I did notice that cleartype actually works correct in landscape with the 19214 builds :)

I've tried about five ROMs with this problem (text disapears in landscape) and everytime it was solved with disabled ClearType - I disabled it generally for whole OS. Re-flash if this solution doesn't work for you :D IMHO PEBKAC

you guys considered the factor that it doesnt affect all areas in landscape? anyways, the given tips above incl. soft reset should clear this problem. If not report in and provide software install history and everything else so we can have a spin :) But I belive its not a problem.

the last time this happened to me, i partially disabled clear type (i dont remember which setting i left enabled) and everything worked well EXCEPT this ::

when i type in web pages (google search bar for example) i got invisible text .

for me the only cure for all text + landscape was disable all clear text..iir

I use NoThrills V3 ROM. Build is a bit old, but cleartype in landscape mode works fine. This is not true solution for this bug in the recent build, such as official ROM.
However, this rom is still WM6.1 and stable ROM with cleartype in landscape.

Here' my case, I have an AT&T Tilt and with my OEM 6.0 ROM I could enable ClearType in the Settings/Screen and both in KaiserTweak (landscape & PIE) and everything worked fine. With my OEM 6.1 ROM if I have all 3 enabled I get the invisible text. When I disable the landscape option in KaiserTweak (and Soft Reset) it didn't work so I tried with the screen in landscape mode, i went to Settings/Screen unchecked the box for ClearType then I went back into KAiserTweak and it worked, I am able to leave Cleartype enabled for PIE but I don't notice a difference in Portrait or Landscape, I am still able to leave ClearType checked in Settings/Screen for Portrait only, also I did have a glitch at one point where if I had that Screen/ClearType page open while switching orientation it actually 'forced' it to work in Landscape and made text invisible, even though Landscape was disabled in KT..So I would try that and see if you guys get the glitch...what i did then was uncheck there, closed out of settings-back to portrait-went back to settings, unchecked ClearType then soft reset, then i tried the settings screen again with cleartype checked and left that page open and when i switched orientation it didnt force-and no more invisible text. Sorry for the lengthy sentence(s)

After a while, I developed the disappearing text problem using the Garmin v4 ROM (with the newer TouchFLO stuff on it). But, a friend of mine has the OEM WM6.1 ROM from AT&T on his Tilt and he has the same issue.

I enabled landscape ClearType a while ago and actually was OK seeing all the text in landscape mode.

About 2 months ago, the text disappeared and the device started getting more sluggish...

Yesterday my Tilt became absolutely unusable -slow, wouldn't open programs etc. So basically I was getting ready to flash it.

While I was playing with it today, I got my landscape text back.

First I disabled ClearType... no change.
Then, I decided to clear ALL my text messages (SMS and MMS).

It took literally about 30 minutes for the device to clear them all, and then I had to delete my Sent Items as well.

Guess what?

The device is now snappy again AND I get my text on rotation. I haven't re-enabled ClearType in Landscape yet, but I think I'll flash to something else anyway.

I must have had thousands of text messages in my inbox. It's because of threading the messages... I like seeing the message context, but it makes it harder to manage the text messages. Evidently they take up space and require lots of CPU to parse.

So, maybe try that. I can't guarantee it, and if you use PIM Backup, you can safely experiment with this. BUT, remember it takes a LONG time to clear the text messages. So don't reset it if you think it's hung.
