Exactly. It requires USPL installed (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=320155 , if u haven't yet done it). Download and extract http://rapidshare.com/files/119224728/03.21.90.zip.html (it contains rom radio 03.21.90 and ROMUpdateUtility too), enter bootloader mode (soft reset while holding camera button) then just run ROMUpdateUtility.exe . It will only take a few secs to update

radio ROM means the part of software that helps u recieve the signal and controls ur telephone so that u can make calls, sms etc

I had the same idea last January 2008 when I first got my Elf, funny enough, I believed I could listen to the local radio stations with my Elf. and after a bunch of reading, I got disappointed. You're not the only one confused :)

Im still in 03.18.90 version, and still testing, no problems yet with this, maybe in a few weeks time, I'll try to flash this new version, Hopefully, I wont brick my Elf again with a bad flashing :)

usually newer version will give us better reception and better battery life

03.12.90 surely has bad reception, it is fixed in 03.18.90, I wonder what will this version fix in the 03.18.90, maybe longer battery life, because I believe after flashing mine to 03.18.90, my battery life is much shorter.

nope. only the radio will be updated. ur OS (Merliot's Diamond ROM) will remain untouched.

and it depends on the ROM ur installing. if the ROM has radio included in it, then it will overwrite the previous radio version.

custom ROMs are made in such a way that only OS part is updated and the other parts are given for the user to choose and install. like radio

I'm a newbie in this forum, but have experience on flashing phones, so I'll try to expose my question as clearly as I can:
I have an ELF0100
ROM version: 1.11.707.1B WWE
ROM date: 05/24/07
Radio version: 02.95.90
Protocol version 4.1.13.45

CE OS 5.2.1238 (Build 17745.0.2.3)

I noticed (and got complaints) that sometimes the signal is not very good, so I want to upgrade the radio version, I've read here that I need to flash USPL first and the the radio upgrade using HTC ROM tool.
My question is: If I do so, will I loose everything I installed so far? Do I need to reinstall everything again? If so, is there a way to make it less painful?:D

My next question is about OS version, I noticed this one has some strange behaviour sometimes, is there a newer version which is really stable? If so, what are the improvements?

i suggest you try blue elves 5 for starters. i m sure u wil like it ;)

I have just upgrade my Touch Elf with Bleu Elves Rom v5.0. It works great!
So now i want to update the radio to 03.21.90.
In your opinion, Is my Touch CID unlock after the Bleu Elves update? (for me no, I read that it bypass the CID).
Can I update the radio with this method :
- By following the steps of the installation of the rom Elves Blue v5.0 but instead of loading with RUU Blue_Elves_v5_0.nbh, I load RUU_Signed.nbh ?

u have to run pof's USPL before u flash anything like radio or rom. cos the phone needs to be unlocked before u can flash anything

there are many people who have used the RUU_Signed.nbh given on the first page. nobody else has a problem with that. so i guess u may have flashed a wrong nbh.

Update using .21.90
GPRS - No problem in getting data.
BT - No problem in using hands free for cars
WiFi - No problem in getting data
Radio - Smooth operation so far, actually less background noise

Can anyone tell me if the Elfin is capable of 3G on the Rogers network in Canada? On HTC's website if you go directly yo Products and select the Touch it says "blazing fast 3G speeds"......But if you click the Rogers icon and select the Touch, it says only GPRS/EDGE...???? Now I know we have 3G with the iPhone so can we or can't we get 3G speeds on Rogers with an Elfin?

you can try NBHExtract.exe tool on this rom or TESS v2.4 rom

Hi Gurus,

I simply want to upgrade my Radio from 02.95.90 to 03.21.90. Read through all the 8 pages here and most of the pages from the other thread by Aman as well.

Problem:
1) -Phone remains CID unlocked after running elf-uspl.exe
(CID unlocked checked using mtty tool..It was FF. I understand that unless its CID unlocked, I cant flash a Radio or any other part of the ROM. )

2) - Active Sync doesnt work in the 3rd step of elf-uspl. Step 1 and Step 2 complete fine and when it proceeds to Step 3 where the AS greys out and it asks to press enter, I press enter, accept the first screen and the disclaimer that comes with it, goto second screen where it asks to ensure that the AS is working fine and the connection is also fine is where the problem comes. I did a soft reset and tried out various other methods as well, but I keep on getting either USB Connection Error or Image file corrupted error.

Already tried out :
-For the Active Sync problem which always crops up in the 3rd step of elf-uspl, unchecked (and checked out) the Enable Advanced Networking functionality in PC to USB setting
-MicroSD card had already been taken out
-Same for SIM Card as well (Shud I try this with SIM Card in the phone?)
-Had followed the sequence -> Hard Reset, running the cab files in the order mentioned, Soft Reset (by powering off and powering on)...But in the 3rd step, when it launches the ROMUpdate utility automatically, the second screen there is where I face an issue - as it suddenly stops detecting the phone through AS.

Am I missing something there? Here is my ELF's Info :

thanks for the quick reply Aman, I shall try reinstalling the AS and see if it works. The USB Port works fine for the first two steps of elf-uspl and always fails in the third step when it launches RomUpdater Utility. Anyways, shall try out the same after work in evening.

Just tried again:

A couple of observations on my ELF :
1. After doing a hard Reset, it does some customization and restarts. (Is this customization causing some issue?)

2. Enable RAPI was indeed done after CERT_SPCS

3. Using ELF USPL 1.17, I ran the elf_uspl.exe file. Step 1 and Step 2 work like a charm, no issues with that.

4. Step 3 - Here is what happens -> AS becomes grey, which is correct I believe and the Phone shows White Screen (after showing Linux screen for a few seconds and saying something like jumping to System..)

5. Here is where the issue comes - After pressing Enter it launches PDA Phone ROM Update Utility, when I goto second screen it asks me to make sure that AS is working fine. I tried using different USB ports, removing and downloading and installing AS again. But to no avail, AS just refuses to connect with my phone while the phone is showing white screen.:mad:

Confused. am I doing something wrong here or missing some small thing?

Any help or pointers much much appreciated!!

NO. There were no IPLs/SPLs/Radio/MainSplash files ever included in my ROMs. That would have been unethical if I had done so without mentioning it.

Update : Guys, I had wrongly assumed at this point that AS needs to be working and in green colour. This assumption was wrong, AS need not be green, and grey is perfectly Ok!

Thanks to kokotas for pointing this out and making my day! The White screen itself means that the phone is temporarily CID Unlocked now! So just go ahead to the next screen where it doesnt show any current version of ROM and just flash with the correct .nbh file.

Proud owner of WM6.1 with 4MB page pool now!

Which version of IPL, USPL etc are u using. Is it ELF or ELFn? Aint that supposed to be .NBH rather than .NBF unless I am missing something here?

Are you trying to update the RADIO? Were you able to CID Unlock your phone?

Pls post more details or hv a look at my sig for the problem that I faced and the solution as detailed in a few posts above.

No idea about the bluetooth, but a higher version is supposed to fix any bugs etc with GSM reception..So if u experience calls dropping on your HTC, you may wish to update the Radio..Current version can be checked by Start->Settings->System->Device Information

You need a tool called ROMUpdateUtility. Please spend sometimes reading other posts and don't do anything until you understand these stuffs well enough.

I started here about two weeks ago and spent the first week reading it without doing anything. I now have my Elfin updated to the latest & greatest.
I'd almost bricked (killed) my phone once when the update didn't go through entirely.

Exactly. It requires USPL installed (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=320155 , if u haven't yet done it). Download and extract http://rapidshare.com/files/119224728/03.21.90.zip.html (it contains rom radio 03.21.90 and ROMUpdateUtility too), enter bootloader mode (soft reset while holding camera button) then just run ROMUpdateUtility.exe . It will only take a few secs to update

I just tried it and for some reason I can't get it working on my Elfin. I know I already CID unlocked it before because I'm running Shadow TE 2.1 custom firmware, do I have to cid unlock again? Every time I try to use the utility it gets to 79% and then says the image is corrupted.

EDIT: nvm, upgraded to USPL 2.26pof and now it works thanks!

Had the same problem but did not change the model Id. Used elf-uspl.exe for flashing with whitescreen method and it went through ok.

extract the current nbh using NBHextract.exe and u will get radio's nb file. then build nbh for this radio again using HTCrt tool keeping model id as ELF0*****

I had tried with my 2 Elfin today with new flashed Radio 0.3.39.90 on both CSL-1010 and Peoples mobile service provider. Both are working very well stable and smooth. Especially the Edge / GPRS connection is very stable in comparing with the old one.

I check with the SMS, Email , phone calls, voice mail, MMS, WiFi, Bluetooth, etc --- everything is going well.

It must be something wrong or something incompatible with your phone.

No, it is not true. I am using Onyx 4.1.4 (3.07.720.03 WWE ROM with this Radio. It works very well on my elfin.

I've got a problem on my Elf. When finishing call by pressing end-call button talk-time still goes on and on for 30 seconds :( Pressing that button again and again has no effect. This happens occasionally. Tried several different ROMs but no difference. Had to roll back to 03.34.90 radio.

My phone (Elf) did not work after updating. Even after downgrading still problems with GPRS. Reverting to original ROM seems to have solved the issues.

My sister (who has exactly same phone and ROM) experienced no problems at all.

This is my test so far for Radio ROM 03.39.90. Just installed Radio ROM 03.39.90 on my Elf.

My previous installation failed with Blue Elves ROM 5.0. Although phone and SMS was working, the GPRS signal failed to make a stable connection. As a result, I was unable to retrieve email from Windows Live version 10.6.0042.1900 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=411532). The solution was to roll back to Radio ROM version 03.34.90.

Upgraded ROM to Touch of HD Lite 4.3 yesterday. Touch of HD Lite 4.3 was amazing; it is highly recommend. Everything are working. Today, I have decided to try the Radio ROM 03.39.90 again. Just flash it a few hours ago, and things are working. The problem that I had before seemed to went away. But I am keeping an eye on it. One big plus so far is the GPRS seemed and felt faster than Radio ROM version 03.34.90. I don't know if it is a result of Touch of HD Lite 4.3 or the new Radio ROM version 03.39.90. But I welcome the faster Internet browsing and download. I am keeping an eye on the battery life. My previous Radio ROM version 03.34.90 consumes about 25% in about 5 hours (during the time, no phone calls and Windows Live version 10.6.0042.1900 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=411532) checks email every 1 hour.

So far this is my experience.

After the first day of testing, I am impressed with the small power consumption. After using for 15 hours, the battery is at 57%, much better than before.

Like I mentioned before, the battery life is greatly improved. The reception should be better as well, although I haven't noticed much change from the .34 to .39 . I'm not in Australia so I can't comment, I'd really recommend it, besides you can always flash back to your current Radio ROM if you're not happy.

I've been using version 03.39.90 for some time now on my Elf with Onyx 4.2. I must say; quality is much improved. Don't know exactly about battery life, but reception and call quality is way better.

I couldn't install the patch either. Somehow, I haven't had experience with any bugs.

I have been testing the new Radio for a while. So far is has been quite stable with my service provider. Only at work where signal is choppy, but it is a know issue with tinted glass building. Signal bounces off the tinted windows. Other than that I am very happy with the ROM.

One thing that I have discovered and have read in other Forum... it is better to keep the GPRS connection Always ON instead of having to connect & disconnect all the time. By having GPRS set to disconnect and reconnect all the time, it actually drains the battery. :eek: I have tested, and it is true on my HTC Touch. Idle GPRS (like idel GSM) does not drains the battery. Check it out yourself. ;)

I have the same problem, but when I install a new ROM(any ROM). When I configure the operator settings and reset the device 2 or 3 times the problem dissapears.:confused:

Well I screwed something up.

Its a Rogers AT&T Elfin. I used the 3.21.90 package.

First time I tried it errored and got stuck in boot loader, I updated the drivers again, this time it made it past bootloader and started to do the radio, then Errored, the device reset itself and loaded back to the Today Screen.

Anyone in Canada or BC Canada near Vancouver can suggest a good radio. From my years with the Hermes I found that some radio's are better in some locations and worse in others.

Hi guys, I'm having trouble downgrading my Elfin from the 3.39.90 radio. All I can manage to downgrade to is the 3.34.90 rom, but can't go further back the version lineup. Any suggestions or comments about this issue?

Yes, I did. It's working for me in combination with the Tess Rom. I also tried it with the "a Touch of HD" rom, but my Touch lost signal about every 20 seconds. If you want to use "a Touch of HD" you need to downgrade your radio back to 3.34.90 in order for things to work properly.

The patch has ModelID and CID check. I tried to patch it directly, but as it's signed, it doesn't work.

I charged my phone last night overnight until i woke up for work(meaning its fully charge right?) then at work i will check for new updates here at XDA (ROMs, RADIOs etc) until i came up to update my ELF with this new radio (currently 3.34.90) i have a few sent and recieved messages like 50 or more from my girl friend texts(messages) after flash________toinks! got 1 bar drop instantly(making it 3 bars left)... i will observe more of this on futher days... fantastic signal though, E stays always... great!

Has anyone had these problems with the radio rom (and patch)
My phone has full signal strength (visible) but is not connected to the network somehow... People can't reach me and SMS messages arrive late...
If I call my voicemail (not soft resetting my phone) it calls oke and a short while after i do that the messages come in.... Looks like that call i made recreated the actual connection to the network somehow...

Could this be a radio rom problem or a network problem...?

Just successully flashed Radio 03.39.90 by copying the .nbh file to SD Card, renaming to Elf0img.nbh, the pressing Camera-Reset. So far so good. Thanks!

in case its related to the firmware, i guess i should apply the patch only once as long as i dont change my radio, no matter how may times i reflash the os or hardreset the device, right?

It just upgrades your RADIO, so it isn't related to your ROM (and OS too)...

Simply: You can flash it on your WM 6.0/6.1/6.5 device...;)

There is probably something wrong in ALL software, no matter the source. It's an ancient but still very much applicable rule; all software contains errors. And some are never noticed, and some make life difficult.

I know it seems I keep saying this to you, but here it is again anyway. I have been using radio version 3.39.90 for more than a month, and experience no problems with it. In fact it has made my phone more reliable than the previously installed radio version which was quite old (the one installed by the original owner, who sold it to me through craigslist). So if you are having connectivity problems perhaps it is owing to your locale, your provider, or to some configuration error or software conflict in your particular setup. Or perhaps I am just lucky in that it works for me.

Yes! This did the job.
Had constant disconnects and full SIM messages.
Couldn't execute the fix exe but you cab fixed it!

you dont run that file, you have to flash it with RUU. read the stickies.

EDIT:
btw, it didnt worked for me and there are several others having problemas with this radio too. im with radio 3.34.90 which seems a safer bet.
and you need to have your phone cid unlocked first.
