I was using an iphone the other day. I like how it seems like its "accelerated" with a 3D graphics card. I got to thinking about my 8525 and how it jerks around, but then i got to thinking about s2u2, SCLPC++, s2u2 settings, iContact etc and wondered why someone hasn't created a home screen replacement. Is it just too entrenched into windows to do away with the start menu? Is there a way to create a new shell like you can on x86 based machines with windows?
I'm not complaining about anything here though. I'm very happy playing with all the different roms you guys create, but I'm hungry for something new. I've recently started playing around with linux on my home PC (been putting it off for some time b/c I am a vb programmer as well as a cell phone mod'er). The idea of taking something you own and completely changing the interface (not just the color or the pictures) really excites me.
For those who say "why don't you do it", I am a married factory worker with a two year old and I own my own home (yard mowing eats a lot of free time). I'd love to learn whatever language needs to be learned and start programming the heck out of this thing (if you want to see my work, go to www.mediaengine.org its for carputers ((which is a good way to take your phone one step further ))) <- heh nested parenthesis in a post.
I'm also not saying the iphone is a superior interface. I actually couldn't figure it out at first. I didn't realize that the "middle" button was "back". But I like that. Its different and I thought "whoa". I know that our phones can do it. I just wish it would now ;)
I suppose this is a call out to the programmers around here to start working on a holy cow shell replacement so when people whip out their iphones and start wowing everyone, i can whip out my htc and go "ya I can do that, but I also have a transformer phone with a keyboard (insert transformers sound here when the keyboard opens) <- another thing my phone won't do and wish it could. - This leads me back to programming... When someone says "it can't do that" usually that means that there is a way, but no one has found it.
heh thanks to all (schaps, shamanix, and all the other rommers out there making the hermes rock).
BTW sorry if this belongs in another forum. I just always hang out in the wm6 area.
