[06/13/08] WM7 Spb Mobile Shell Skin goes Landscape

This is a skin only theme for Portrait & Landscape modes and 240x320 QVGA Only. Also my first public contribution to to xda-developers community. Hope you enjoy it, feel free to modify it as you wish.

Description:

This minimalistic theme has 4 main screens (Now, Programs[9 icon], Speed Dial[8 contacts and 11 in Landscape] and Shortcuts [12]), however there are only 3 main tabs, the Shortcuts screen is visible only in 2 ways: i) Sliding your finger from right to left after the Programs screen. ii) Using the right side soft key, also after the Programs screen. If you slide your finger from left to right or use the left side soft key you´ll never see the Shortcuts screen.

IMPORTANT: Please, please read the Release Notes for further information, known issues and instructions to make it work smooth."

Headsup: Altough is not a proven fact, is very likely that the Alarm in the Now Classic mode under certain conditions may cause unstability of your phone, this unestability may be manifested in difficulties to sync with Activesync, unability to pick up a call, call incomming and in general notifications not showing up. If you don´t want to take any chances with this behavior all the scrpits for the Classic mode related to the alarm function must be dissabled. I prepared the attached qa_layouts.dat.zip which dissables all alarm related functions in Classic mode the Pro mode still has it. Just rename the file removing the extension ".zip" and copy to your phone.

i have experience with delaying when open New SMS. overall is great !!!

Well, compared to openening the message box directly from the Today screen, yes! It´s likely to have a delay (I would guess 1 second longer).

I have the mode set to Classic Analog. I want the analog clock mode (the main home screen pic).

Yes, it happens when you switch from the Professional to Classic Analog, just do a soft reset and you´ll be all set. This is a known issue for me and it could be fixed by next release.

it is possible consider my sms inbox content now more than 800 sms ? :D
it will take more time to initializing .

Make sure you have rencrypted properly the file (WinZip will show an asterisk to the right of the fie name). If you have trouble with this send me your city name and I´ll fix it for you, no problem.

Yes, there's no problem with qa_layouts.dat ( I already success changed it to Jakarta, IND )
but after i changed the setting at SPB Menu to Professional then back to Classic everything seems to be ok now.

You didn´t miss anything, that specific files is not mentioned. You need to modify the SpeedDial.xlm inside the qa_layouts.dat

Well Greatbal (hats off) is a very talented person and looks like he has mastered Spb MS, I´m a little short of skills to produce things at high speed (I wish I could ... ) In my plans are to keep providing tutorials for different things (like how to make a DialSpeed for 15 or 11 contacts), but honestly I don´t think I´ll have the time to revamp this theme with more pages in the short term.

The intent was to resemble to WM7 theme that has been seen in multiple sites, besides the background in the source files I got from the "old" Spb MS 2 thread matched what it was know, but now that you mention it....... Why not? I like the idea! Let me play with photoshop the background files and let´s see what happens.

hihihihi, you are a "bad" influence for my sleeping (it´s 2:30am down here...!), but I like it!

EDIT: I checked already and in deed it´s possible, however without the need of a major graphics rework I don´t like the fact that with 8 bit image (Thanks Spb) the color gradient lines are very noticeable and some color look really bad, for those interested in give it a try play with matize settings on for the files Separator.bmp, Separator21.bmp and Separator1.bmp. The only icon affected is the little one for the appointments but I can provide a new clean one.

Look for the following script in your LockScreen..xml inside the qa_layouts.dat

Change the Height from "26" to "56", it will display 2 appointments, however I must tell you that during testing we experienced that having just a single recurring appointment that appointment will show sometimes duplicated and the will switch back to a single line causing a blinking effect who some may find classy but some others will consider it annoying and that´s why I masked the bug reducing the height (Your choice)



P.S. - I also don't use photos for my speed dial's at all so I would like to increase the font size where it adds the contact name . . . Thanks!

That sounds as a serious problem! I haven´t hear / read before your post about it, I haven´t experienced neither. This doesn´t mean that it couldn´t happen with this particular theme, but I did some reading and found 2 related issues (The 1st similar to your problem and the 2nd one on caller ID) already posted in the Spb site, check the dates and obviusly the people reporting the behavior was not using this specific theme. Considering very short discussions in the threads and also the quantity of Spb MS users, looks for me that both issues are kind of a gray area, that occurs randomly and there´s still not a positive action or solution by Spb guys. On the other hand how about a combination of multiple factors (xda-developer site is flooded with issues related to missing calls or can not receive incoming calls): Your network, your radio, your rom, other software running in your device, and I don´t want to think in your phone itself, etc.

What I meant in the previuos response is that I was not doing myself the coding for additional tabs, but I would keep providing tutorials on "How to x,y,z". Today was the turn for the tutorial of quantity of contacts, but I will do the one for your request, but now that I think clearer I have something that may result useful for your request. The last page will give you an idea of what needs to be done, let me know if it works for you.

Why? I don´t know my friend, Possible causes:
1.-) You are missing the proper files, please check that you have in place the files qa_operator.dat and qa_battery_now.dat.
2.-) You have the files but the content is from another skin (?), please check the bmp files and see how they look like.
3.-) Perhaps you made changes in the mentioned files or in the LockScreen.xml inside qa_layouts.dat
4.- ) I made a mistake coding, decrypting or encrypting your particular files.

The easy way:

1.- Copy the files mentioned in previous #1 point, softreset and see what happens, if these fails then:
2.-I suggest a clean install, remove Spb MS and make sure that there´s nothing remaining in your installation folder and then reinstall the original software, soft reste, install the files of this skin and soft reset again. If this doesn´t work, then previous point #4 is the most likely cause, sorry for the inconvenience.

Oh! A final request: Would you mind to post your own screenshot to see exactly how it looks like.

The little thing at the top left is the icon that appears when you are connected to an external source (usb pluged to your pc or AC charger), just unplug it and the bas will show up. The other little icon at the top right will show up whenever you have a restriction in your network service (is your phone sim unlocked?). If you have present icons at the left and right then there´s no reson for the bar not appear, the bars and the icons are part of the same bitmap image.

All my pics are framed, the feature is not part of the theme but if you like it I´m posting the file. On the background I´m posting the link to the originals (thanks to cornelha) in post #2, I´m posting also a tsk file that I found in an italian blog (don´t know who to give the credit for that), which is fine but I would like to have a black top bar instead of blue.

WM7 release works perfectly in professional way, but in classic way the SMS/MMS/weather and date icons are not working...

Great! The appointment issue is when you have one and only one appointment and such appointment is recurrent, now the challenge is to make it to display more than 2 appontments :o.
I liked PoinUI too, but I left it even when there was nothing known of customization for Spb, imo we are using now the best available UI.

Just need to get rid of the message count that still shows from your original skin.

This only happens when there are messages, emails, voicemails, etc. When the message count is "0" the additional characters don't appear.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, there's no problem with qa_layouts.dat ( I already success changed it to Jakarta, IND )
but after i changed the setting at SPB Menu to Professional then back to Classic everything seems to be ok now.

It´s very simple:
Edit your LockScreen.xml the following way
1.- Just quote as a remark the "BoundRect" line for Profiles to make the Profile icon dissapear.
2.- Edit the "BoundRect" lines for Status and Fake and change the Width values from 180 to 240.

This should be do it ;)

But is not in my hands, unfortunely this is a limitation of Spb MS, perhaps Spb would give us in the future the flexibility to use dynamic states and not limited to a few discrete ones. Thank you!

Can bet money that you are using 02840 qa_layouts.dat with mods in the LockScreen.xml which doc300 didn´t change. Try to reload the original (the one in the release bundle) LockScreen.xml file and you should good to go. Be careful with what you change from mod to mod....

Do you have by any chance another alarm or time management application running in your phone? if so, then I would like to try it because I haven´t seen the issue with this version and I have kept te eye on the issue having on porpouse only and only one recurring appointment. :o

Dear All,

That theme is very great, I love so much.
One issue I found is that:
When I am receiving a call, my phone will need few second before the phone showup a call is receiving. It is so strange that at Start Screen, it will not have this problem. Is there anyone also face this problem?

Here it is, guys. I release this huge 6-pages and 7-pages theme. Make few adjustment to homescreen, plus add a weather page and 3 contact pages. It come with MRU or no-MRU layout. Gesture from right to left slides to: Home>Weather>Programs>(MRU)>Contact>Contact>Contact, and will slide to home on next gesture. (MRU page is same as original) Has also include tsk file and S2U2 wallpaper. I know the weather page is not necessary, but I kind of missed it from the diamond theme. The upload is a complete theme. Just download the ones you want and copy to your device. See screenshot below.

I've been playing around and notice that once I've switched classic/professional settings that make both the analog and digital clock show there is no more email pushing? The only time I'll get new emails is when I exit MS, going back to original windows today screen?

Me three...highly annoying, as I use the programme that has the spb home screen as default, instead of windows today.

I love this skin, it would be a shame to stop using it, purely cause it isn't showing new emails :(

Thank you for pointing that out, in fact there´s more than one bug (blinking appts, ring delay, push mail, etc..... And also lots of opportunities to make it more efficient. I´m cleaning the current release up before releasing the landscape part. No sense to have a landscape when the basic for me (portrait) is not clean enough.
However I could find a problem with this particular one, unless you are referring to "Status" and "Fake" which I believe already explained the porpouse in post #128

Modify the "detailed" section of the Locksceen.xml: edit the "BoundRect" line for Status and change the Width values from whatever the value is to 180, that would spread the icons evenly starting from the x,y coordinates.

No i don't have any other appointment app. it only did it for that one day. it's odd it seems like if the appointment is 1 week away it's not sure if it should show it or not. cause it's not doing it today.

Another thing play with the "Text Opacity" value in the index file, set to 0 will show the count only when the count is >0, if you set to "100" the counting will allways appear.

Yes, if you are going to use transparent icons the counts will show up, in this case the only alternative is eliminate the "Fake" status (so you get only one set of counts) and have the single counting bellow centered to the transparent icon.

Err...well I'm afraid that I'm a bit new to all this and don't know how to open .dat files. I've copied everything from your release into the SPB folder on my Cruise and it's all changed apart from the battery and signal bars.

:( I thought you wanted to use only the bar indicators in your particular theme and not with this one. So sound that you want this theme but the bars don´t show up right? Then forget bout the dat files. If you already loaded the files in the release, then there are 2 likely reason to don´t see the bars: 1) Your Spb is set to the display Professional mode (this mode doesn´t display bars) 2) Your device is plugged to an external power source (There´s no battery bar for that state) and/or your phone is not getting any signal or is in flight, mode, no sim, wrong sim,etc. There´s no bar for these states.

It´s very simple:
Edit your LockScreen.xml the following way
1.- Just quote as a remark the "BoundRect" line for Profiles to make the Profile icon dissapear.
2.- Edit the "BoundRect" lines for Status and Fake and change the Width values from 180 to 240.

Not meaning to be harsh, but please read the "Release Notes" and follow the Decrypt / Encrypt tutorial. Both linked in the very 1st post. Check post 145 for Profile icon deletion.

You can´t just "view" the file, you need to decrypt, edit and rencrypt your file, please read the tutorial for that and you´ll find the password.

Thanks once again. I really loved your customised skins. The only problem that is critical to me now is when there is a reminder, it only sound and there is no alarm icon shown on the top of the screen. If I missed the sound I would have missed the reminder.

Thanks once again. I really loved your customised skins. The only problem that is critical to me now is when there is a reminder, it only sound and there is no alarm icon shown on the top of the screen. If I missed the sound I would have missed the reminder.

Spb MS2.1 doesn´t have any feature dealing with "reminders", you must rely in the settings for "Sound & Notifications" in your WM system as long as Spb MS allows it. Take a read http://www.spbclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15342&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 looks like there´s a bug associated in general with all the notifications, and for te guys experiencing that email is not being pushed I would say that "incoming email" wouldn´t be the exception.

I am not to good with skinning, and cannot get it right.

This will make the theme the most authentic WM7 theme!

Thanks for the advice guys. Sorry for not reading the release notes properly - was too excited to try out the new skin! Couldn't edit the document though when using WinRAR so had to use WinZip as suggested - couldn't work out why this was though.

Certainly the MS 2.1 thread approaching a million views has exceeded any expectation and is almost impossible to search and keep a fluent communication , that was the main reason to have started this one although I know some people didn´t like it), I´ve tried to keep certain order with updates in the 3 first posts, which indeed the title is WM7 but doesn´t mean that variations are not allowed, after all that´s what we all want, don´t we? So as long we keep it tidy I don´t have a problem at all. Your (and anybody else) work will be allways welcomed.

the professional view have the week calendar on the first page , the clock in the midddle and the 2 icons for mail / SMS / call after. in the top the other indicator and the model for sound ... I like how it is but with your icon and graphs ;->
