Hello, I am considering upgrading my phone (Cingular 3125 with WM 5) to Erofich's WM 6.1 ROM. Before taking the plunge and upgrading I am wondering how legal using a ROM like Erofich's is, and if my cell phone service provider (AT&T) will give me any grief for using Erofich's WM 6.1 ROM.

Thanks.

It's perfectly legal, except it voids your warranty and i don't think you should worry about that since you've had your 3125 for more than a year.

Actually the reproduction and redistribution of Microsoft's copyrighted operating system is probably illegal in some way. However, your service provider will most likely never know, and will never care that you are using such a ROM.

In other words, the only thing you have to worry about is screwing up and bricking your phone in some way (which is very rare).

Putting a WM6 ROM on your phone isn't any more legal than installing your friends copy of XP or Vista on a machine that was not licensed to it. Unfortunately, you cannot puchase a license to upgrade typical devices, so puttinga new ROM on your StarTrek is not legal as far as licensing goes.
