HTC Rom with wifi and GPS : maybe next week..

according this french website http://www.smartphonefrance.com/actu.asp?ID=4600 (after a call to the French HTC support) HTC will provide next week a rom upgrade with wifi and gps ....

It wont happen because why would HTC release the nike without having WiFi or GPS working? Its just another rumour. I remember hearing some guy rang up customer support and they said they could enable WiFi but i doubt that. Dont get your hopes up.

I doubt if GPS can be added if no-one here on xda can do it. Wifi being added is a possibility.

As for it going against "marketing rules"; I'm not so sure. With the announcement of the Diamond and Raphael the "Niki" line of devices has pretty much run its course.

Marketing is all about selling a product, if they add wifi (and GPS. *ahem*) to the Niki then HTC could in theory regain the interest of potential buyers. I.e. reduce the cost slightly and add a feature(or two) in order to move excess stock and maximise their profits. It's actually quite ingenius.

We'll just have to see how things play out.

Well actually there is truth to the matter of it being released with WiFi anytime soon. Should be interesting but it sucks a$$. If he warned me upfront I would have been able to spend more quality time on my holiday.

Device identification says its a Niki 100, but i don't have WiFi.

If you want wifi and GPS don't buy a Niki : it has never been sold as a wifi capable device, if it's enabled some day it's only a bonus ;)
