ive got radio 3.39 and the lastest DCD ROM and outside, i get a lock in under 20 seconds every time. under a roof takes about 30-60 seconds. also, my COM port is 3, not 4.

no, i found that after flashing from 3.27 to 3.35 (then to 3.39) that COM port 4 would not aquire GPS, but COM 3 did. just a fluke thing because no one else that i have seen uses COM 3 on google maps.

DCD 3.0.0 mixed with some of my components.
I get a lock in about 30 seconds - 1 minute using AstroGPSLauncher to launch Tom Tom. This is in Fountain Valley, CA.
If I am on the go and need a faster GPS signal acquisition I use WiFiFofum and get a signal in about 20 to 30 seconds for Tom Tom or Live Search.

Verizon user here - immediately after flashing utilizing Google Maps, I get a lock in about 45 seconds. Once I have gotten the initial lock, whenever I open up Google Maps, I usually lock in less than 10 seconds. I have left all settings alone. I am utilizing Vetvito's Black Pill (from what I understand - it's DCD's 3.0.4 with Vista flavored theme built in). I am in South Florida - West Palm Beach.

What DCD ROM do you actually have, and where do you get it and the Radio ROM (I am new, and still trying to figure out where everything is)?

The latest and greatest is the DCD 3.1.2 with the 3.39.10 radio. THere will be a newer build shortly (per some of the experts here). If you want to upgrade your phone - the BEST thing you can do is read the WIKI located here on the site so you can understand some of the terms. After you read up on this stuff, you will find it to be a relatively painless process.
Good Luck!

I'll copy my answer from the PPCGeeks thread with the same name...
I'm in middle Tennessee with n2c 3.49.NO2.5066 from the kitchen running the 3.39.10 radio and I get a lock with GPSToday or GPSTest in 30-60 seconds for 1st lock of the day and 5-60 seconds if locked recently. Lower end of the spectrum if under a clear sky, and higher if sitting in my house (except on the livingroom couch which I can't ever get a lock, go figure..).

You can get 3.1.2 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=391696
Also as suggest read the Wiki site it has step by step guide and radios. Make sure you run the Carrier Rom.
