View Full Version : HELP NEEDED - Problem: Mini-USB Port Fried???

Hi. Hoping someone can help me out here - I seem to have "Fried" my mini-usb port on my Touch Dual? :(

I had connected my Dual to my Vista PC in order to flash the latest Mary Rom - it started to charge the battery but hadn't picked up the device in Windows Mobile Device Manager (as happens some times?) - when I started the CustomRUU I of course got a connection error and this is when the port seems to have "died"???

The Dual now no longer charges - either from the main power supply or from PC or Laptop and I get the error message "USB Device has exceeded the power limits of its USB port" when I plug it into an XP Laptop?

I'm hoping that this is not a permanent "hardware" issue and that someone has had the same problem before and has a solution?

I have tried: Soft Reset, Hard Reset, Removing the battery, Changing the battery, changing the software settings for the usb port?

Help.....?????

So its been a few months now since my Dual died - I've just found it in the bottom of a drawer in my office and its reminded me to take a look and see if anyone else has had this problem so I thought I'd refresh the thread....

Any (ANY) advice would be great - I cant return it to HTC as its stuck with a custom ROM loaded and I cant connect the USB (obviously) to change it back to a shipped rom......

Is there any way to flash an original rom from a memory card?

Help......?????

I am new here, but i am an electronics technician who has had a similar problem with my NEON 200. Seems that PC USB Ports can only supply 5VDC @ 500mA max and the NEON power pack is 5VDC @ 1A. I continually charged off my PC and Laptop when i could not find my mains pack - i think this eventually killed my phone or battery as now it just does not charge and i cannot turn on the radios. I did however measure the volts on the battery to be correct, and i did briefly get the device operational again (without the battery warning then turning itself off) for long enough to get a new ROM on the phone hoping this would fix it. FAIL! I have the same problem again... I hear there is a fuse on these that could be open cct, so i am going to look into that now. Hope some of this helps.
BTW - i hard reset the thing about 50 times (hoping the vibrate on start up would run the battery out) and this is how i got the thing working again the first time (before the ROM update).
Cheers,
Matt.

You can try to solder the contacts from the usb Plug in Phone. Have done this on a friends nike and this solved the problem.

Be carefull and don't overheat the board...

As far as I know he just replaced the usb port, but I barely understood what he said.
It must have been that because he only had 3 hours with the device and there where other devices in line to be repaired as well.
