Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard (not so) Plain Jane 5.2.19202.1.0.0 - Alpha
Yes! It is a "Vanilla Edition", English only, Plain Jane.
Hi Guys
Here's my first attempt at ROM cooking. Foremost, I must thank all the ROM cookers (you know who you are!) who has given me the inspiration to cook this vanilla edition. Also, thanks to you guys "ROM Junkies":D (like me) for giving me the PUSH. The reason I cooked this vanilla edition is because I had always wanted a vanilla version. Secondly, I wanted to have the feel and to understand the effort required to cook a ROM.
This ROM is based on GnatGoSplat's WM6.1 Clean 5.2.19202 (Build 19202.1.0.0) Eval (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=375670). I am releasing my vanilla edition with his blessings. Thanks so much Gnat.
What's out:
- the old WM homescreen
- all previous homescreen schemes
- JBed (java)
- Windows Live icons
- no soft-key short-cuts (due to varied devices; please install separately)
- no tweaks included, yet!
What's in:
- Sliding Panel homescreen
- Rinku Bar "ready" (included only the icons - may included full apps in future version)
- Threaded SMS is retained
- xT9 (instead of T9)
Please follow installation process from KarHoe's Guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=324557)
The flashing takes a little longer when it is at 100%. Please be patient.
On first reboot you may have a blank homescreen. Go to Settings>Home Screen>change either the Color scheme or Background image and >Done
I dont know why. Probably coz I changed/removed the green scheme.
Your feed-back is much appreciated.
Download here! (http://www.mediafire.com/?cyybls1nxwy)
Thank you ALL.
ps. If you want to DONATE please do so BUT please contribute to your favorite ROM Cooker. I need not know if you do contribute:D

I think that this are those Vanilla changes... fine to me, because I disable all splash crap.
I think that only universal IME should be installed, without any languages database fot T9,XT9 etc.
I use my country T9 and it is no use for me, as many many non-speaking-english users. Vanilla should be vanilla
Good work illi :)

Thanks Profy_X.
The "bugs" you mentioned are covered in the first post.
I only include Rinku Bars' icons with the intention of installing the full apps in future release. So if you want it now you have to install it separately.
I am also aware of the slow flashing. It was mentioned in the first post too. I am looking for a solution.
Thanks

1. I forgot to mention that I installed my modified cpr file. Thats why the operator name is not at its original position and the font is thinner. The sliding panel is also slimmer. I also included the bronzeres file that contains more icons.
2. Those were removed to make sure it is vanilla and I think it doesnt impact performance.
thanks for your input. these will help of improve my next release.

mmh.. don't be offended, but I don't see any big difference to Gnats release...
Thank you for your frank opinion. I really appreciate such feedback and look forward to more of it. It will help me with my next release.
I cooked it to my liking with the intent of making it a vanilla ROM. Most of the differences are internal. Eg. the cpr and bronzeres files are modified. The removal of Windows Live icons and inclusion of Rinku Bars icons. The minimalist theme and scheme options is another. Therefore the differences are not obvious.
I am sharing this ROM because I believe there are like-minded people who prefer such rom. but i am willing to modify this release further as long as the Rom lives to its intended name VANILLA version.
if you have any suggestions and comments
I am happy to hear them and may consider it for next release.
once again thank you for your honest opinion.

Illi:
Please take this criticism as constructive. When publishing a ROM people usually like to know how much memory is available, if/what version of .NET is included, maybe any benchmarks performed.
It would be good if you could include links to the Noble AP_ shortcuts (you don't need to upload as they're already on the FTP, I believe, and if not they should be). As you update/create more ROMs you could anticipate requests/needs and have a (somewhat standardised) set of links to binaries like fixes, OEM apps, and the ROM Update Utility (if you chose not to include with ROM DL package) that you can include at the bottom of the post submitting the ROM.
Maybe even a link to (the thread or directly to) the file for the kitchen you use, or the one yours is based on. Vanilla is for custimisation, no?
If this is true "vanilla" and you have not included more OEM softs than listed in your description, there should be wasted space on the ROM due to the image always remaining a certain size. Therefore I do not understand the purpose of omitting VOIP or SIP provisioning; my stock WM5 QTEK came with such features so I dare say that makes it valid for OEM/Vanilla.
Did you really save space by omitting this?
(BTW: don't take this personal, personally, I don't use VOIP, but I don't understand "vanilla" either. Image size must be a specific minimum capacity so why not pack it full? OTOH, some ROMs are problematic for having too many apps...)
Finally, it seems to be a worthwhile practice in the other devices' forums for the ROM submitter to immediately post to reserve at least the #2 space in the thread to include informational updates (responses to common questions that will appear in the thread, maybe FAQ-ish), reg fixes, patches or software updates.
This way, the first post only has to be edited when your update the ROM, and the "edited on" date reflects the ROM date more accurately.
Anyways, nice to see you in the kitchen. :)

3. Improve the boot up screen...

Bugs
1. Problem with the top panel. The carrier text starts too far left and is covered by the icon.
2. In the media player panel if the artist name is too long it scrolls onto the second line but the track name still starts on the second line so they overlap. It looks like there is room for three lines of text. It would be cool if the artist name rolling into the second line meant that the track name started on the third line.
3. Pushing the messaging button on the non-M model opens BOTH the media player and the messaging app, restarting the current song and then opening messaging. Gnats ROM has this bug too.
4. The Communication Manager is still blue. Would be cool if it picked up the color attribute from the home page. This is a minor aesthetic issue.
5. No icons by default and home page doesn't appear until reset (already submitted I believe)
Comments
I like threaded SMS.
I would vote to add VOIP and SIP to the vanilla.
Love the grey theme.
Love the media player
This is my favorite ROM so far and seems to be the fastest. Thank you for creating it and thanks to all the previous cooks for getting us here.

Here's the tweak I found elsewhere in this forum to change the SMS threaded behaviour. I have not tried it though.

"If you want to disable the new threaded SMS feature, go to HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Settings\OEM\ (create if necessary) and edit/create the following DWORD:
SMSInboxThreadingDisabled=1

1 & 2 - this is the cpr issue. You may copy the original cpr over this one in \Windows and see if it is any better. If not, I shall try to modify the cpr file later.
3 - Yes. I just noticed this bug. Will attempt to get it out.
4 - Any experienced ROM cookers can help me on this please!?
5 - Maybe I should put back the startup splashscreen
I posted earlier on how to kill the threaded sms. Hope it works.
Your suggestions is being taken note and action will follow:D

I have the new CPR and still have both problems. I just noticed that the media player panel title line does scroll over so a partial solution would be to just not allow the artist line to scroll. You could just cut it off.
4 - Any experienced ROM cookers can help me on this please!?Clearly I don't meet that criteria but I used a resource modifier and changed the background but couldn't get the application to load after the resource file was modified.
5 - Maybe I should put back the startup splashscreen I am not sure what that means but I like everything about the splash screen, especially the new font size. I am just not sure why the battery and other icons don't show.
Thank you.
No thank you. Nice work. Thanks for the fast reply.

Anyone having a good A2DP experience with headphones?
Having had several headphones and several Tornados and several builds and always having problems I am at a loss.
On this build I get one or two dropouts per song.
I know the Tornado is on the low end of the speed necessary for A2DP but if I do something processor intensive while listening to music the machine seems to degrade the app gracefully and keep A2DP functional.

I cannot speak to this ROM, but I have generally had good experiences with 6.1 and A2DP as they seem to have better drivers or BT stack.
I find that using Tornado Power Control, having no other apps running and having the maximum amount of free space possible in device memory helps when listening to music.
The problems arise when the phone rings, or you try accessing any other feature from the phone.
If you are already following the same system I do, then I suggest you see if you can try another A2DP device and see if there is any difference.

I sync with mail2web.com without problem so i dont understand your problem.
anyway thanks for the input.
When syncing with an Exchange server that enforces a password policy the phone will force you to input a phone password when you sync your emails/calendar for the first time. At this screen you cannot scroll down to the input box as the keys/joystick dont work. All you can do is hard reset the phone.
This bug is in the source ROM as well.

Hi every one,
I have installed this rom and i applyed the dump.zip released by rickwyatt, see page 5.
But with this path the operator name overlaps the icon's clock.
I update some files to move the operator name, my operator name is COMCEL 3GSM and i belive that's name is long. (Windows\CHome_240x320.cpr)
I remove the Rinku Bar in the themes that are in the zip file (Application data\home) and replace this with the default icon bar.
I attach images with the clock slected and not selected and attach the files with the changes. If want all changes, uncompress the file, enter to the home folder and then move these files to \ of your smart phone. Then goto settings - home screen and change the home screen to see the changes. Windows Default and Slide Panel are the names, you can changeit in the Application data\home\ cmhome.home.xml or full.home.xml.
