View Full Version : Logmein [Working] For Excalibur

So i've been fooling around with this idea of VPN'ing into your PC or laptop while you're away with it from my Excalibur. I already use a free vpn service from www.logmein.com . I've tried using it in the past but could never get it to install as it's made for the PPC and not smartphone. I edited the .cab to install on our phones, but it didnt help too much as i couldnt navigate once i was connected to my PC as, i didnt have a mouse or touchscreen. Secondly it was so soomed in, i couldnt see but about 1.8th of the screen anyway.
So i've figured this out. And got it to work with most respect. Although it is still zoomed in, you can zoom out, but it does make the screen difficult to read everything as its zoomed out to around 20% so it can fill your whole screen. I use fakecursor to use with the mouse and im able to navigate. Again i will stress this is anything but perfect, but if your in a pinch and need access to your PC and are not near another PC or laptop, this can be of benefit to you. Attached are the modified version of logmein.cab file and fakecursor. You will need to go to www.logmein.com and register a login and also download the client to the PC you wish to connect to to use it. Secondly you will need to go to www.logmein.com using PIE ( and PIE only) to start your session. Let me know if you have any questions.
Edit: It would also be best to use a program (such as smarttoolkit) to enable a hotkey to start fakecursor, once your remote session has started.
Some screenshots (These were taken while connected via edge. So yes! even edge works!)

how does this work? i installed the cab and the cursor and so far nothing, where do i find the program on my phone?
pudgedaddy
8th June 2008, 02:39 AM
you dont find it on the phone. Its not a stand-alone program, more of a plugin that only activates when you go to www.logmein.com. login to your account then select your PC that the client is installed on and login to that PC ., as soon as it connects, the plugin will start.
See if you did this without this .cab being installed, it would prompt you to install the .cab anyway, however, the .cab would not install as its intended for PPC's only. I removed the restriction from the .cab, allowing it to install on our phones. Im going to try and upload a vid on youtube with insrtuctions.
Again, YOU NEED TO GO TO LOGMEIN.COM AND CREATE AN ACCOUNT FIRST (USING THE PC YOU INTEND ON LOGGING ON TO) AND ADD YOUR PC (USING THE LOGMEIN FREE OPTION) THEN IT WILL DOWNLOAD A LOGMEIN CLIENT TO YOUR PC. THEN YOU WILL NEED TO GO BACK TO THAT SITE USING PIE (PIE IS THE ONLY MOBILE BROWSER THAT WORKS) AND LOGIN PICK YOUR PC THAT YOU JUST INSTALLED THE CLIENT ON AND CONNECT.

I use avvenu to access all of my files from my dash, and it's never let me down so far. Just go to avvenu.com to register, and install the software on your computer, then you login online on your dash and there you have it, all of your files without having to have a fake cursor or anything.

There is also something similar you can do with your bluetooth.
It let's you use bluetooth sync to dongle to your pc and control it. It looks just like this but is not internet explorer driven. It won't work as far away as this app will let you, but for around the house, it is great.
Like say you have a party going. Your pc is the music for the night. You can be outside with your friends and link up to your pc through the bluetooth and control your music, whatever. I imagine this might be right up someone's alley, plus it doesn't lag at all. Just search for the bluetooth pc remote. It should pull up exactly what you are looking for.
If that doesn't help, I'll look into posting a link or the shareware file itself. This is shareware.
Otherwise, I like this. It looks good for if I'm trying to remotely access my desktop from far away. I can't imagine why I would, but if I ever need to, this is the app I will use.:)

yea. i took the .cab file to my desktop. i then used winCE .cab installer to remove the restrictions from that kind of proc you have and also removed the install restriction of smartphone. i saved the .cab then i installed on my phone,

are you using PIE (pocket internet explorer)? this will not work with opera mini, mobile. deepfish, or skyfire
Secondly this was tested for the excalibur, and i have no idea about the behaviour from another non- HTC excalibur device
it seems like although its installing, its still not recognizing the install. maybe some sort of app restriction with your ROM?

LogMeIn gives you remote access to another computer. I believe this version allows you to access any computer from your mobile device (as long as you have the targeted PC's IP address). Once you have this access, you can control what the computer is doing (i.e. moving the mouse around to open various programs).
It can be quite dangerous in the wrong hands... Muah ha ha... Sorry, got caught up in the moment. lol

I am using PIE. One strange thing, when I install the cab, in the middle of the installation it says "Maybe space is not enough for install." (direct quote) I then click ok and it says it was successfully installed. However, in the remove programs window, logmein doesn't appear there. Does it appear in your remove programs dialog?
Thanks for all the help.

Did you try and download the app via your phone and then modify the cab like i did? It may be the website identifies which version of windows mobile you have and sets the .cab appropriately. Second, simply dragging and dropping the RaCtrlCE.dll in the /windows directory doesnt work. The setup.dll file in the .cab needs to run since it has to register the .dll placed in the windows directory during installation.

I tried installing your cab and the installation went fine, but connecting to the logmein server it was still asking to download the .cab.
Then I downloaded it, opended with wincecab manager...(and so on, as you explained).
It is working now. I have logmmein IT reach account, may be they send a cab according to the account you have.!
P.S.
Any sw suggestion to set the hotkey avoiding smarttoolkit installation?

No i dont know any other hotkey proggy's you can use. And i dont think the .cab had to do so much about your logmein account, more of it having to do with the device you're using. So it will be different from the HTC S620 to the blackjack, to the MOTO Q , and so on...

Yes, I tried downloading on my device and modifying. It doesn't complete the installation properly - it gives that same weird error then uninstalls. But as I wrote, it works fine under 6.1. I guess I have to wait for 6.1 for the BJ2.

really , it just sounds like the .dll that installs to your \windows directry is not registering properly. you can't just copy over .dll's they have to be registered for them to work. which i dont know how you can manually register them without a .cab,,, maybe a pocket dos program?

Pudgedaddy - I'm now using a Q9h with 6.1 and I can install the cab successfully. Still, it will not connect, and keeps asking me to download the cab. I tried it on the 6.1 emulator with the same result. I downloaded and used WinCE Cab Manager to modify and allow it to install to smartphone, but I'm thinking maybe I did something wrong.
Can you:
1. Tell me exactly what you did to the cab with WinCE Cab Manager (also I'm using the Trial - don't know if that is an issue)
2. Post a newer cab
thanks!

i don't really know what to say. I think what you have to do ( if you haven't done this yet. is you have to download the .cab, extract the .cab from your phone and then mod the .cab for install on your Q. I don't think my .cab works. I believe they setup a dll specifically for your login and it runs a check for that. secondly i havent heard of anyone having any success with the Q or blackjack, just the dash. i dont know why but since i only have a dash, i can't do much trial and error to help you beyond what i just said. :(

I've done exactly that but to no avail. I think it may be related to the internet connectivity. I noticed from your video - when you used Logmein it seemed you were usb connected to your pc - is that correct?
It's so strange because everything seems like it should work. It installs and everything but then, nothing. I wonder if there is some hack installed via the ROM you're using that is affecting it - maybe tricking logmein in some way...
Any other info is appreciated, and thanks again.

yes, i was connected via usb, but i was using wi-fi for the internet connection ( it was the only way i could use SOTI pocket controller to record the video to my PC) . I have used edge as well, and it is suprisingly fast ( well not fast, but a lot more responsive than you'd think) for edge though , i still would not recommend using it to replace a natural VPC client on a PC , but more of if you need quick access to something where you're going to be "in and out" of your PC. And yes like i said b-4, i have not seen any success (yet) with other devices such as the Q series or the blackjack. The dash seems to work fine though.

Actually . i think that you have to download your OWN RACtrICE.cab file and edit it to (using a .cab manager on your PC like winCE .cab manager) and set the install settings to install on your phone. then drag and drop back on your phone and install. I think there is a .dll or a registry setting that differs from one phone to another (no matter the brand of phone or ROM version)

To the other person. you have to use a cab modifier like WINCE cab manager to mod .cab files. basically this .cab is set under properties tp install on devices other than ours. all you have to do is mark all devices to be available to install and then re-copy paste the .cab into your phone and install.

i think it may have something to do with the native resolution you are running on your PC monitor.... i have an old ass 15" lcd monitor i'm using so my resolution is still 1024 X 7668.....if you are running a much higher resolution...there may be some sort of compaibility issues...just a thought.

1. Install the software to phone
2. Download TightVNC (http://www.tightvnc.com/download.php) "Self installing package for Windows"
3. Install on computer and in the program menu will be Tight VNC
4. Launch tight VNC Server
5. You will see a password box put whatever you want in there
6. Now go to run on Computer type "cmd" then "ipconfig" without the " make a note of IP Address
7. Run program on phone input the IP and the password now it will connect and show computer the way it works takes some getting used too.
The only prob you will have is that if you don't have static IP then you will need check in morning as step 6. or get a DDNS (http://www.dyndns.com/services/dns/dyndns/) account it's free and you will have to read how to setup, also the only thing you have to do is log into DDNS everymonth but they have an automatic tool now :)
Hope that helps.

I haven't made any different settings and it always works on every router i have had.
It's not installed on Tilt @ mo as have just flashed "used to use Dash" i'll take a look in bit so can be more precise on login.

Okay, here is what i did:
Installed .net compact framework on computer then on phone.
Installed TN5250 on phone.
Installed TightVNC server on computer.
Opened the VNC server.
Opened the 5250 app on phone. It asks for IP address, which i put my external router address, Port number, a box for SSL, and an optional device name.
I used my external address and the port 5900 but it never connects, no matter what port i use. I have an internal router address (the 192.168 thing) so how can i make the phone app recognize that?
