hi,
i am after a software that allows me to find wifi hospots. any suggestions please?

Search how? Search for advertised hotspot locations before leaving? Google can do that.

Or search from where your standing for hotspots available to you? If so enable wifi on your phone go into settings and look at the SSID's that are listed. If none are listed no hotspots for you ;)

Wififofum does a nice job on this. I use a bluetooth GPS module with it, export XML files to my pc and put them on a google map. This gives a nice overview of the unsecured hot-spots in my city:
