hello,everybody:

I bought a plannex ue-200tx-g usb-10/100baset adapter,
link:http://www.planex.co.jp/company/release/20071214_ue-200txgp.shtml
and
http://www.planex.co.jp/product/game/ue-200tx-g/
(I bought this)

and finally, I can use a net cable to surf the web !!!! Wonderful.

There are two ways I had tried to connect the adapter with athena.

1. Use a 4-in-1 cable. I connect the net cable with athena through a 4-in-1 cable, and it works.
2. Use a dock station. Of course, it works too.

There are two type of adapters on the plannex webpage, one is ue-200tx-g(I bought this), the other is ue-200txgp. There is no difference between these two adapters. The ue-200txgp is comprised one ue-200tx-g adapter, one Y-usb cable and one ac-adapter.
So if you want to buy the usb-10/100baset adapter, i advice you just buy a ue-200tx-g, because without the Y-usb cable and the ac-adapter, athena can surf net well. But in advance, you should have a 4-in-1 cable or a dock station.

BTW, you should install a driver first. Here is the link : http://www.planex.co.jp/support/download/usb/ue-200tx-g.shtml

if you have other type of usb-10/100baset adapter (for Palmchen, you may try this), try this driver.

Use a net cable to surf net on athena is faster than other ways(3g,wi-fi,activsync..).

hello,every:
Does any know that usb-rj45 cable?? One end is usb, the other is rj-45. it has the function like a network card.

does anybody use such a cable on athena to see if it works??

if it works, we can use athena to surf the web by network cable.

the following link is one kind of such cables:
http://tw.f2.page.bid.yahoo.com/tw/auction/b35233308
(the page contains traditional chinese)

The link is to some Japan or so page. I have a small difficulty to read it, but anyway, it is probably impossible, because each of such USB device would need a driver to be installed in our WM6 device. I am sure, the device has a driver but for standard PC (Windows or Linuks or whatever), but they probably did not provide drivers for Windows Mobile 6, so no joy.

if you found the chinese web page hard to read, plz refer the following ebay webpage:

I initially had the same thought - the lack of a driver would be a problem. Looking at the English site, I'm sure of it now:

"Plug and play installation in Windows 98SE/2000/ME/XP"

But not WM.

I bought it and tried to use it at my ameo.
after connetion on USB the Ameo found a new device, but no device-driver could I offer.
nothing was accepted.

If a devicedriver available, I could make the next test...

Does anyone know the pda "sharp em one", here is the link:
http://bbs.pdafans.com/viewthread.php?tid=572285&extra=page%3D1%26area%3D&page=7

I noticed that the "em one" can use a usb-10base/100base-T adapter to surf the web. Here is the link of the two types of the adapter:

http://www.planex.co.jp/company/release/20071214_ue-200txgp.shtml3
http://buffalo.jp/products/catalog/item/l/lua-ktx/index.html

The two adapters use realtek RTL-8150 chip.

It's not easy for me to buy such adapters.
If someone would like to test if the athena could use usb-10base-T adapter to surf the web, plz consider what I give above. Maybe these kinds of adapter could be used on athena.

Glad to see there is a solution that works. Ironically, I could have used this last week. I was at a resort which did not have wifi (?!), only ethernet in each room. So I was out of luck...

yes - I have a question:

I've bought a USB-LAN adapter like a DM9601. ( DaviCom-DM9601 )
I've found driver for WINCE 30
http://www.driverskit.com/freedownload/Net_Card/Davicom/DM9601_Network_1_90_02_0312_WHQL/17594.html

works fine on my desktop / Notebook with WindowsXP (and WindowsXP driver).

But If I try to install it on my Ameo, connect over USB cable, the Ameo pop up with the question : where are the driver.
I've told him the location, the name, anything else, but the Ameo couldn't catch the driver and didn't use the USB-LAN Adapter.

I don't know what's not in the right way. Could you help ?

Besides UE-200tx-g, I don't know whether other USB-LAN adapter can be used on athena.

I have a question, had you installed the driver I provide above?? Link:
http://www.planex.co.jp/support/download/usb/ue-200tx-g.shtml
(In the window mobile section, click download, then click the [同意] button, and it will download automatically, filename:UE-200tx-g_v1003.zip).

This driver is for UE-200tx-g, I don't know if the driver only support for specific adapter or can be used on all kinds of USB-LAN adapter. Because I don't have other kind of adapter, I can't try. But you can try this driver with your DM9601. If the driver doesn't work for your DM9601, maybe you should buy a UE-200tx-g.

okay - I've tried.
download the cab file - I can't speak/read japan ;-) - with your instructions, very good.
Installed cab file on Ameo and tried to use it; connect the USB Network on Ameo.
Ameo installation windows popped up and ask for a device driver (cab file is not compatible with DM9601).

okay, if not compatible, I have the installation files of the UE-200tx-g adapter.
Now I'm trying to buy an adapter (I'm from germany).
Found it in Amazon.com and try to order one. But Amazon told me, he want deliver it only in USA or Kanada, not to germany.
Now I'm searching over google about an UE-200tx-g adapter. Found many adapter in jp/tw7 and so on - but that's I couldn't read.

What a pity - I have a USB-Lan Adapter, not working on PDA and ready device-driver and couldn't buy it over web ...

I search a lot of taiwan and japan webpage about selling this adapter, and I can't find any seller would like to sell it to Germany.

But I get an idea. Maybe you could buy it through a help-buy company(website).I found two web-site:
http://www.japan-auction-agency.com/
https://www.japantodoor.com/help.asp?idno=11
these website will help you to buy things from japan.

the following link is a japan auction search result about this adapter, may help you a little:

I found that japan amazon also sell the adapter, and i try to order it, but j-amazon doesn't send it outside japan.

First I will say thanks for your good ideas and recommendations. really good. I didn't know that things.

If the web site's are in english, it would be better for me to understand it.
But most of the web sites are in japan, taiwan or chinese , and I couldn't understand, what they are want to inform me. (and yes, I had tried to translate it...)

I will get a couple of inform about your recommendation's of the japan-auction-agency (good is to handle all payments over paypal). Later than I will test than with an order ...
I will hope I make nothing wrong ...

good question : why are so many interesting electronic things are first in Japan/China/Taiwan, and why so difficult to get them... really bad ...

Thanks to pigeonking's direction of using rj45 network adapter on x7500. His suggestion have been tried out on my machine. I bought two eu-200tx-g adapter this week, one was bought on 3C shopping center, the other one was bought on PCI-Direct website, that is 628 NT dollars. So I still have one brand new eu-200tx-g adapter, do you want it?

If you want, we can discuss the price and way to deliver. I live in Taiwan.

maybe it is just me, but, why use a RJ45 to USB adapter to browse the net, when you already have Wi Fi and 3G , and Bluetooth for the internet?

even in a high secured office with no Wi Fi, you can still do 3G

and if you are in a secured office, chances are you wont be able to get onto the network anyways using the RJ45

the only way this will work is in an unsecured network, for you to sign on, and not get access denied to the router/switch

and probably too cheap to not want to use the 3G / Edge to go online. :p

i wouldn't want to carry so much extra stuff with me to be able to go online using a RJ45 when i go out with my phone

When you go outside your home, office, or go abroad, the place where you are only exist rj-45 with no 3g,wifi, you will feel happy if you have this adapter to connect to the net.

For example, when I went to Hong Kong a few months ago for 4 days vacation, there was only RJ45 line to use, there was no wifi in the Hotel, and I couldn't buy any 3G sim card there. Anyway, when you own a huge phone like athena, you will not annoy to take one more usb-rj45 with you.

hmmm..... that sure is odd, almost every hotel i've been to in the USA, Canada, UK, and Israel, they all had Wi Fi in the hotel areas.

that's why i can hardly think of any reason why a RJ45 connection would be required, but you do have a point.

can't imagine some parts of the world are still so out dated. :p

With me the reason i am getting one is that at uni the wifi's don't like windows mobile devices and so you can't connect to it (it requires this small java installation thingo and entering your password, and ive tried both opera and IE and ill just sit there loading for ages..) :(

Hopefully i can just straight away connect it to the Ethernet ports ...hmm.... $30+ US for it...hope its worth it

I was at Disney in Florida a month ago. I was outside of my phone's cell range (I have an older regional and not nationwide plan), and most of Disney's resorts only offer in-room Ethernet. They told me only 1 or 2 of the resorts have Wifi. So I could have used this, at a very modern and up-to-date resort...

It's a good solution,too.
The wireless router needs extra power. As I know, the voltage, plug or socket may not be the same in every country, when you go abroad, the wireless router may be useless. For example, the socket and plug in Hong Kong is not the same as they in Taiwan.

I've just got my UE-200TX-G, loaded up the driver and its working. I have it plugged into my Athena docking station.

I'm running dslreports mobile speed test and I'm getting speeds reported at high 800s kbit/sec with 0.162s latency. That compares to 300s on a Edge and a bit better if I can get a 3G signal at my home.

I don't know how to interpret the actual numbers, other than to say compatively speaking its obviously faster. I can definately see myself travelling with the new dongle and x7510 when I want to leave my laptop at home.

techntrek
3rd September 2008, 02:27 PM
You should be getting 800+ on 3G on AT&T... but only if you have upgraded to radio 1.58.

robjhellis
4th September 2008, 05:35 AM
Not sure about that - probably all to do with where the towers are etc. I just ran the speed test on my TyTN (400 mhz device) with an "H" showing and all came in in 320s. At the same time the x7510 is showing "E".

The real benefit of a cable connection is that many hotels have WiFi in the lobby but only wired connections in the room. I used to carry a D-Link wire to WiFi adapter - won't have to now.

techntrek
4th September 2008, 03:45 PM
Even with only one bar on H, I get much higher speeds.

This is great! Thanks for the tip!

I bought one of these adapters from Amazon for $15 (the cable connector for the Wii) and downloaded the driver and installed it. After a reboot, the adapter is working perfectly! Can now access wired ethernet without a PC.

This will help me a lot at work; our employer has special drivers for Linux and Windows machines to access the WiFi network; WinMo is NOT supported and will never be supported. Adding your own WiFi router is against company policy (breach of security) and can be grounds on which to be fired.

With this, I can still get company intranet access at work during a meeting or training class without having to have a laptop or borrowing someone's computer.

All I need to figure out now is if I can use the Athena to access the Communicator (M$ LiveMeeting tools) to get my company IM sent to my mobile while I'm connected.

Thanks again!

I bought this item from Amazon (search for UE-200TX if this link does not work)

As for the ROM version I'm running, I'm using a MichyPrima 6.2 version (can't remember which one). I don't think this matters too much, though.

I've noticed that the adapter/driver combo is a little temperamental. In order to get it to work, many times I have to soft reset the device, and even after that, I may have to unplug the adapter and re-connect it in order to get the Athena to recognize the network adapter.

Once it works, though, everything works without any hitches. (Had to disable proxies on my work network in order to access most services on the company intranet.)

I am also able to access our internal IM system which uses Office Communicator. I downloaded a version from Microsofts website (no cost.) Now I can get IM's from co-workers in a long meeting.

I've also been successful in using Remote Desktop, VNC, mapping network drives, ping, and accessing intranet websites.

Oh, you mentioned that you want to hook up a Toshiba TG01...

If you're not using an HTC Advantage (a.k.a Athena), then you may need to get the special cable mentioned on the Japanese website. Even if you get this cable, I don't know if you'll be able to use it on your phone if it doesn't have a USB host function. I'm not sure what the capabilities are of the Japanese phones for which this cable is intended.

This cable connects to the USB mini on your phone and allows you to connect a power adapter and convert the USB mini to a type A host socket for the USB to ethernet adapter.

The HTC Athena has a separate USB host, so the additional cable and power supply are not needed. (Though I bring my USB power adapter with me when I use this to make sure I don't run my battery down.)

Be sure to research the entire thread to make sure your phone can do this.
