Hello guys,
after the news about the HTC Touch Pro, in my eyes just a diamond, i asked myself about the internal storage. the diamond has the "large" 4gb storage but the Pro just have 512mb?? What's up there? than i saw that in the specifications of the diamond are listed the ROM storage and the internal storage. 256mb ROM storage i think.
The question is, why threw HTC he internal Storage of 4gb out of the device? maybe there's not enough space for a "second" card slot....??
If somebody already opened the diamond or has a picture of an open device can you please post it?
I think HTC has already an storage slot in the diamond, they just blocked it against use of outside? just as a buying argument for the Pro??
I'm just interested how they integrated the 4gb storage,... if it's really so simple as i hope:D i don't have to buy the Pro. i don't like the "qwertz" keybord, it just makes the really nice device thick and ugly,... but it's sad that the diamond just have 4gb because that's quiet poor in my opinion,... so i really search for an solution for more storage in the diamond....

Have you ever had a WM device before?
The Pro comes with:
ROM: 512 MB
RAM: 288MB
+ microSDHC slot
and the Diamond with:
ROM: 256 MB
RAM: 192 MB
Internal storage: 4 GB
If you look at most of the WM devices out there, the concept usually is like with the PRO. Although with 512MB ROM and 288MB RAM the Pro comes with about twice as much memory as previous PPCs.
I am pretty sure that HTC has soldered the 4gb flash memory right onto the board. Having a cardreader on the board would cost more and take more place... therefore very unlikely...
It is a bummer that the Diamond has no memory card slot. On the other hand, most people will not need more than 4 GB memory.
With that much ROM/RAM that the Pro offers in addition to a Memory Card slot, the machine should actually do very well with quite a few opend applications.
If you search (the forum or use) google, you will find tons of reports on the HTC Touch Diamond...

Just a silly question - does hard reset erase also Internal Storage? Thanks...

Don't believe so. From other posts I've read (and a quick look through a copy of the manual someone posted) it appears to acts just like an SD card (except you can't remove it!). You can clear/reformat the internal storage if you need to but a hard reset doesn't clear it.
Others confirm?

Dealbreaker for me on the diamond:( which is too bad as I love my Vogue right now; but my 8gb microsd card is nearly 100% full...

No, it doesn't
actually... "it can do" is the answer. when you hard reset, you get a chioce whether to or not!

I concur
BTW, there is hope that it can support USB host and plug a card reader to read whatever you want. Try holding Vol Down and Back (<-) while reset and see for yourself...But I don't know how to get it to work while WM6 running.

My question to the topic is ... did somebody opened Diamond ? (disassembled it) ... whether internal storage is fixed 4gb micro sd / it can be changed for higher capacity micro sd ?

Is it going to brick / hard reset my device?

most bets are no...
it wouldnt make sense to have such a complicated contraption when you can just solder on a 4gb chip directly on board
if they had a 4gb sd slot they would prob give you a memory card reader and say here is a 4gb card with the diamond

No. tried couple times myself, just soft reset again to exit.
