Hi all! After 6 months of hard work, here is a preview of the exclusive user interface which is going to be released soon in my next ROMs.

http://i27.tinypic.com/j97m2a.png

For more information: http://www.touchxperience.com/ (http://www.touchxperience.com/)

TouchMenu is the first part of the UI, this is probably the most powerful and customizable menu for Windows Mobile. As an example, it originally replaces WM Start Menu, but it can as well replace many of HTC applications (Cube, Task Manager, Comm Manager, RSS Hub, ActionScreen, Large Start Menu, Long Press End Key, ProgramView, Contacts) and offer a quick access to e-mails, SMS, contacts, appointments, tasks, call log, favorite websites or programs,... all in a small executable!

TouchMenu supports finger scrolling and gestures, for example you can switch from a menu to another by sliding your finger left/right, or display context menu by a long press on the screen. Each menu has four different views (large list, small list, large grid, small grid). As the rest of the future user interface, TouchMenu has a nice Vista/WM7 look.

TouchMenu has various built-in menus :
· All Programs (Start Menu replacement)
· Active Programs (Task Manager)
· Recent programs
· Favorite programs
· Settings (Control Panel)
· Documents
· Favorite websites
· Contacts
· Messaging (E-mail & SMS)
· Appointments
· Tasks
· Calls
· RSS feeds
· Recent documents
· Today (day events & actions)

But you can do much more by creating your own custom menus where you can add contacts, program shortcuts, website links, system actions (for example: reset device, rotate screen, sound profile, clock, brightness backlight, WMP status,...) or links to other menus. You can also replace icon for each program/folder/contacts/menu with a custom image.
You can personalize menu order and transitions, and each menu can be called from command line. That means you can associate a different menu for each action on the device, for example: press Start > Programs menu, long press on top-right corner > Active Programs menu, left SoftKey > Appointments menu, right SoftKey > Contacts menu, E-mail button > Messaging menu, long press Call button > Calls menu, long press Power button > Power Actions menu, long press End button > End Actions menu,... You can even associate menus to finger gestures and active corners using FTouchSL. Possibilities are unlimited!

As I said, TouchMenu is only a part of the new UI, I am also working on other developments, for example a Now screen (like SPB Mobile Shell but with fully customizable elements, layout and graphics) and a finger-friendly control panel (a bit like WM6.1 Standard Home plug-in) for a quick access to most common mobile settings. Unfortunately, I still have a lot of work and all couldn’t be ready for integration into the next ROMs, so I will include only TouchMenu in the next “Full” ROMs, the rest will come later.

Don’t hesitate to tell me if you have some interesting idea to develop concerning the new interface.

I will prepare soon a private beta for next ROMs (first for Kaiser device, then Hermes), so I am looking for some people who have some time and good WM cooking or development knowledges, to test and help me improving my builds. If you are interested, let me a post here (explaining in what you are good, if I don’t know you) and I will contact you by PM if you are selected. A public beta will be released a bit later if there is no major issue.

Hi Schaps!

It sure looks interesting. I hope you get a lot of good responses here.

I know there are a lot of people who waited on the edge of their seats for this.

Thanx for all the hard work. :)

Hello Schaps, thanks for the hard work. First of all, the interface looks new and fresh. Hope some of the developers could help on this because it is really interesting =)

really nice UI is the second thing that came to my mind after "Wow!" thou I guess black bars would suit better the transparent silver background of the apps screen shots
since this is still a beta release, I don't think I have enough knowledge in WM cooking and so I don't think I am a qualified beta tester.
till the final release
merci

Hi Shaps
This is news to use! Thanks a lot for the hardwork. IMO it's guys like you who keep us hooked on to WM... I guess I'll wait for the public beta since I'll be travelling and wont be able to test and give you quality feedback. thanks again for all the hardwork.

Totally Ignore!
I will admit my stupidity, wrong OK button.

I put in the 4.3 ROM and liked it. I was hoping to get the 4.4 beta on, but this has concluded. How do I get it off to a ROM that works??

Small note, on the install, note somewhere that it blows up on XX date or after XX days. :)

Unfortunately, I still have a lot of work and all couldn’t be ready for integration into the next ROMs, so I will include only TouchMenu in the next “Full” ROMs, the rest will come later.

TouchMenu took 6 months? :D So we´ll have to wait a little longer for the complete UI :) Perhaps you should pause the work on WM6.1 and start on WM7, it should be available more or less when you release the "full UI"

Good work, I´m waiting for your ROM!

HI

In my opinion, your ROMs have been the most stable. However I noticed that you are adding Active Programs (Task Manager) in the WM6.1 rom.

Is that the new task manager, because if it is I had nothing but trouble with it and i had to disable it to get my phone to stop freezing up.

Just an FYI

thanks

Count me in.

Based on your past ROM builds and other applications, I don't doubt that some serious time, thought, and effort went into this new interface.

I'm a software programmer with little cooking experience (but lots of flashing experience). I have been planning on developing a similar menu application but haven't had time to move past the initial designs and flow. I have put a lot of thought into what I would expect from a menu application and since I haven't had the time to implement, I would like to put that work towards your application for the benefit of the community.

I would love to beta test and provide some feedback focusing on usability.

Edited - I noticed on second pass, that you're looking for beta testers with experience and wanted to share my expertise.

This looks perfect! Nice and clean.

Yours was the first rom I tried on my Tytn and now I am hooked. Would love to test this but you probably are already swamped with requests.

I currently use SPB Mob Shell, phone suite & pocket plus so I would like to get away from these (really slows things down). So if you need a UK tester, I'm your man.

Shaps,
I have used meny roms and interfaces to windows mobile. If WM could get pretty it would be the complete package. Untill I saw this post only SPB Point UI and HTC seamed concerned with not only the today screen but the entire interface. I would say your pretty is on par with HTC and Mobile shell and VISTA. All of those interfaces bring a little to the table but a lot of crap to the system if your rom eliminates that then that would be great. Ive also used a few of your roms and love them....im looking foward to this one

I'd like to be a part of the Hermes Beta when it comes around. I'm a patient person, but eagerly awaiting your next release.

I've been a WAD, Touch Cube, PointUI, and most recently an SPB Mobile Shell user....Always running your ROMs. The new UI looks impressive with a lot of potential. Good luck in developing it and try not to forget us Hermes users when the time comes! :)

I take it Schaps would like layman users to test his work as well, not just chefs or chef's wannabes. Didn't think that we need to be qualified to be a user :p

So you didn't bother to read:
I will prepare soon a private beta for next ROMs (first for Kaiser device, then Hermes), so I am looking for some people who have some time and good WM cooking or development knowledges, to test and help me improving my builds. If you are interested, let me a post here (explaining in what you are good, if I don’t know you) and I will contact you by PM if you are selected.

Looks amazing. One suggestion and the only thing that stops me using things like spb shell and pointui is the lack of integration with icons on the today screen.
I use the little operator singal bar all the time to turn of wireless and open the clock and check the battery. If keep all links to the bubble popups on the today screen that would be awsome!
Keep up the good work!

It's not like he's getting paid for it...

The ROM will be done when it's done! And not a second sooner. Period.

Use Schap's WM6 4.31 WWE or Berd's 4.31 SS (Schap's WM6 4.31 WWE Lite with 3.62 SuperStorage) in the meantime if you want a stable and fast WM6 ROM, but leave him alone. For God's sake!

Long time reader, first time poster here but to break my duck I'd just like to say I've been tempted to try a different v6 rom myself for a good while now and last week tried SPB Shell but didnt like the fact that underneath that the std WM shell was still running and presumably taking up resources and a few things it didn't seem to do right. Then yesterday I spot these preview shots and guess what.......I'm waiting for a release :D

Fingers crossed its soon and while I'm not 100% certain what you have lined up, if you could make an easy locking system (possibly incorporate S2U2?) that can be activated from the Today screen then that would be brilliant as without a lock and just turning the screen off I often find I've made calls to people inadvertently when my SPV has been in my pocket

Hi!

As I expected, many of you would like to test my new ROMs, but I need efficient feedback from experienced users, that's why I asked for some people with development or cooking skills to join a private beta. Previous public betas were more a waste of time for me than a real help, what's more this first beta is not meant for a daily use, so I won't take the risk to have hundreds of complaints. I need about 50 beta-testers, so please understand I can't choose all of you, and I will choose uppermost those of you who already helped me in the past or who described their skills as I asked. If there is no major issue, a public beta will come a bit later.

I have worked hard this week, hoping I could release the first beta during this week-end, unfortunately I've got some problems which forced me to delay the release date, but to help you waiting I will try to release the Lite versions of my ROMs in the following days (WWE & FRA at this time). Lite versions will be clean ROMs with no additionnal stuffs, but as closer as possible to what could be an original MS release.

As you can notice, I'm taking a different way as I'm not only cooking but developing ROMs, my aim is to realize my own interface and substitute HTC apps to get a total control over ROM development, this is also an opportunity to introduce my work in mobile development. As you can imagine this is months of work, so please don't blame me for the delay...

Maybe Schap's has a life besides programming ROM's for ungreatfull SOB's like you. Remarks like yours won't make him create ROM's any faster if that was your intention.

Personally I've changed back to the HTC Original ROM but really liked the ROM's Schap's made so far. There is a nice combination of software (some created by Schap's himself) and most of the ROM's are stable.

A transfer bar, like on regular phones, but for sending and receiving files, and not only for Bluetooth, but for IR too. It'll be usefull. And also, if it's possible, a queue, for sending files, so you select multiple files, and then send them to a device one after another automatically.
I hope it'll be possible to make.

One suggestion: When you localize other versions, would be interesting you don't translate some folders (i.e. "Tarjeta almacen." instead "Storage Card") because some programs like opera 9.5 try to find the english name and don't work. If you can maintain the same name for all translated rom, I think we'll have less problems.

We're all with you, thanks for your effort!

Hi,

I'm a casual user who doesn't know much about building ROMs. I just flash them on my phone.
If the invitation is open I plan on flashing yours - using it as a casual user who really doesn't know much about much.
I don't try to tinker with programs. I just use my phone for music, video, internet and phonecalls.

I am wondering if this might be an advantage as feedback from a casual user would be able to give a unbiased decision.

Maybe or maybe not, but see how people are waiting for it. Maybe it's because this is high quality work, and such kind need nothing but time. And also I'm not sure anyone has changed the original OS at such level, and developped a brand new interface.
Just be patient.

hey Kevlar, please, stop kissing each ash. You are "interested" in every forums. Your comments are like SPAM. Everywhere i see, there is always Kevlar as a great everything-specialist or tutor. Do you tryied to cook your own ROM sometime? I do. Do you recognise the difference between Kaiser and Hermes????

Go to hell, you "judge"

Schaps, I'm dissdabled & have nothing but time to flash & test ROMS. I will not pretend to know as much as most here in the forum, however I do know what works on my 8525. So far I've had no problems with the newest Starbase 64.UC Rom put out the other day. For me evrything seems to work perfectly, I,'d like to see a little more memory. However I can not see where it has slowed or made much difference, besides I've nothing but time.
I'd luv to test your new Rom, if not possible I luv your Roms & look forward to the release.

Alright since English isn't your first language I'm going to help you out here.

"As you can notice, I'm taking a different way as I'm not only cooking but developing ROMs, my aim is to realize my own interface and substitute HTC apps to get a total control over ROM development, this is also an opportunity to introduce my work in mobile development. As you can imagine this is months of work, so please don't blame me for the delay..."

Schaps creates his own programs by himself. Meaning there is a possibility that it may or may not work correctly on the first go.

Most of these other roms have software/programs proven to work being that they are extracted from other roms.

But Schaps is creating the interface/programs from scratch.

I'm no Rom chef myself but its a given when you are creating something from scratch there are going to be many bugs thus being a lot of testing.

I have to agree with everything you say but....

I believe the problem is about 'management of expectations'. If Schaps tells us he will produce a ROM by the end of, say, February, and he does it, he is a hero. If that ROM takes another two months to appear, for that two months he will be liable to adverse comments, especially if there is no word from him.

If you give a deadline, the community expects you to meet it. If you can't meet it, then tell us. We will understand. But deadlines which pass, without any communications, will attract comment, unsurprisingly.

So Schaps, master chef, and producer of the best ROMs on the Hermes, please give us estimated completion times that you have a reasonable chance of making. Thanks.

Please stop spamming this thread with useless or disrespectful comments!!

Even if I can expect some encouraging messages, everytime I'm reading this thread I loose my motivation and time, and when I post a message it is lost amongst hundreds of messages, so I expect efforts from some of you if you want me to release those ROMs... Thanks to the few people who really understand and support me!

Since few weeks I have hard days because of my job, but I continued to spend time working on new ROMs to release them as soon as possible. I sleep only few hours during nights and I'm really tired at the moment! Several times I wanted to give up, but I force myself to work on it because I promised to improve your Hermes and Kaisers as long as I have supporters. Could you realize that I could sell the softwares I develop for my future ROMs, but I preferred to offer all of that for free!

I am working on ROMs for 3 different devices and many languages, I develop tools for my ROM kitchen, I develop my user interface and many other softwares I plan to include in future ROMs, so that's a really huge work, and I have a full-time job, so please understand that it's really hard for me to fix a release date!

Now I have a Touch Diamond so I have no personal interest spending so much time working on Hermes and Kaiser, I could sell my devices and care only about Diamond, but I continue only because I know that many of you count on me! For those who are interested in Diamond, you can expect good pieces of ROMs because I plan to develop in a second time a 3D version of my user interface! :)

Hello :),
what surprises me here is that some moderator should erase all these uninteresting messages and nothing is done...
As said before, everyone has his opinion but the aim of this topic is to propose to be beta tester and nothing about whining or complaining about any true or false hope provided by Schaps' announces.

Then I think ones have a point here Schaps :
I invite you not to reveal too much about your plans which I really think are genious but that make people hope that they will have something like a diamond out of an Hermes !

So to get back to the only interesting point, I wish I could be a beta tester having a Hermes device, a good knowledge in telecoms (working in 3G+ part) and knowing a lot about what I like or not about my phone, I can even make some tests about 3G / 3G+ easily, but I don't know how to cook and am not directly interested in software development. I give you (Schaps) the decision to choose me or not. :D

PS : I am french as Schaps and others are, it is not a problem for writing /speaking in english so please don't be too offensive about this and learn a bit of humility and kindness for God's sake !

:eek:Schaps thanks for all your hard work throughout the years. I started exclusively using your ROMS 2 years ago. Why you might ask BECAUSE THEY WORK!!!. If all the opinion quoters wanted to do something to help, leave a donation and shutup. I am very selective in all my afairs and you were the first that I ever left a donation for. Why, BECAUSE YOU DESERVE IT. Wish I could have left more. My experience in beta testing goes back a long ways. Back to the days of Clipper (dbase compilation system). Being that I am much better at design then actual programming. I quickly became the guy in our company that tried to break software. You find that while testing you get all these ideas how to better the software.
Anyhow, I have a hermes TYTN 1 so when you are eady to have private beta, I would love the opportunity to help.

I don't know if you need a late stage user beta tester, but I'll volunteer. I'm not strong on development, but I am strong on debugging. I also use the heck out of activesync with my exchange 2007 server. i've noticed quite a few roms out there that quit syncing after a while with a permissions based error and an orange Attention Required, and one that doesn't, Binky11's 3.9. Just an FYI.

Yours have always been the best ROM's and while I flash several times a month I really am glad to see you're working on a late model WM 6 ROM. The interface looks awesome as well. I'd include the damn HTC Network Wizard, because it's the only thing I can be sure will give me MMS access. The cab files with settings just don't do it. Oh the message comes in, but you can't download the content.

Thanks again.

f you want to complain make your own rom and complain to your self about it or even better make your own UI and complain

people what's wrong with you...schap's does this for his and our amusement, and it sure is a good feeling when people thank you,he could easily charge this and sell his UI to someone, but he didn't do it.
so schap's does this because of his will, not because he must do it or because you say "ooooo schaps hurry up,i got something in my ass,i can't wait"....
so let the man do his work, and STOP COMPLAINING UNLESS SOMEONE ASKS YOU TO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
