Hi... firstly... you should only worry about anti-virus if you use it phone to surf loads.... and if you mess about with the settings... otherwise it slows down the device quite a lot!....

I would personally recommend

http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_pda.html

I haven't tried in on the Omnia but it worked on the XDA orbit 2 even after I upgraded to the Syrius ROM.... so windows 6.1 is compatible even though u get a few error messages on installation... after that it works fine!

I hope that helps!

Please visit my kitchen @

http://www.samsung-omnia.org/shokka9's-kitchen.

I currently have:

HL2 clean ROMs with and without M2D
IA1/HL3 clean ROMs using new XIP & SYS 20954 with and without M2D (with chinese SIP versions too)

All my ROMs have G-Alarm, ClearTemp, & M2DC (if M2D ROM).

I will make individual ROMs for donation only basis as cooking takes time to perfect (and test).

I am always making new ROMs and the kitchen is updated regularly.

Take care peoples.

hi everyone,

i like htc audio manager application and it wasn't showing up correctly on omnia's screen. so I have modified its screen resolution and graphics. Since it is freeware I guess it would be ok to post here. I didn't have time to put all in a cab file, instructions are included, sorry for that. have fun.

I have just recently purchased the Samsung Omnia through Verizon Wireless in the US.

I LOVE THIS PHONE!

It's the best phone I have ever had and I have had phones from the Voyager to the iPhone and this is by far the best one.

Can anyone tell me how to uninstall some of the programs that have come with it if they are not on the remove programs list?

I know that I will never use most of them and the memory is bloated with them.

Thank you very much.

Dear Guys
I'm newbie here at Xda

I'm from indonesia, I just bought my Omnia in Singapore
My Current Version is
PDA: I900DZHJ1/DZHJ1
Phone: I900DZHJ1

I want to Update / Upgrade my Omnia to New Official Samsung Firmware i900DZHK3, I have learned and searched for this topic a lot in Xda and other forum, I have also installed Microsoft Active Sync and Samsung Modem Driver, and download the i900DZHK3_updater_xp.exe form samsungmobile official wibsite (106MB)

My Question are
1. I just follow the instruction and update my firmware, is it really that simple? or there are other things i should do?
2. I affraid that my Omnia will be bricked after the update process, how big the chances that i will bricked my Omnia (eventhough i will use official firmware dan follow the complete instruction form Samsung and the expert here in Xda) ?
3. Does my computer need to connect to the internet when the update process begin?
4. Can someone give a complete guide step by step to update official omnia firmware ?

please, i really need all your help
Thanks A lot

Hi, I'm pretty new to theis Winmo stuff but I think that all the programs on your phone are actually put in as part of the ROM build by your network provider.

To get rid of most of them you will have to reflash to another ROM I think.

I think you can only use the remove program functionality for 3rd party apps that you have installed yourself.

I think thats how it works, but I'm sure someone else can confirm.

Hope this helps

Very important: use an XP desktop computer with USB2.0 and install the Samsung Modem driver first!!!
Do not flash if you are not fully understand what you are doing!
Try to flash with a full ROM and not via GrandPrix.
Probably the rom you flashed did not contain a phone part.
Try to flash with the latest full service rom (I think it's HK3)

Don't suppose there's any chance of this being stickied? I think it's a much sought after topic in here.....

***VODAFONE FIX - To revert back to OFFICIAL Vodafone branded ROM***

Here's what worked for me, and I am so chuffed I'm going to go and
post it everywhere I can think of!!! lol

**NOTES: My handset was bought in the UK from Phones4U, Unlocked but on a Vodafone contract, so with their Branding.

I updated to OFFICIAL ACHJ2 when it was released, and I have tried a variety of other ROMs since doing that.

As I am having hardware problems with my phone (was having them before flashing the ROM) I have to return it to Phones4U for repair. This means I have to have the original Vodafone ROM back on it.

I do not guarantee that this will work for you, but if you find you are in the same situation, I see no reason why it won't.

Please note I will NOT be held responsible for any damage to anyone's phone through following these instructions, and if you are unsure on how to flash a ROM, please do not even consider doing this until you are.

As always, Please also remember the following:
!!!USE CUSTOM ROMS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
!!!CUSTOM ROMS CAN HARM YOUR DEVICE!!!
!!!CUSTOM ROMS WILL INVALIDATE YOUR WARRANTY!!!

Now, here's what I did (No registry or hex editing required):
1) Flash to DXHJ1 HERE (http://www.modaco.com/content/i9x0-omnia-rom-discussion/271215/rom-download-links-naming-scheme-incorrect-software-version-fix/)
2) On completion of update, ensure you Soft Reset
3) Flash to Official T-Mobile Rom BOHH5 HERE (http://www.modaco.com/content/i9x0-omnia-rom-discussion/271215/rom-download-links-naming-scheme-incorrect-software-version-fix/)
4) On completion of update, ensure you Soft Reset
5) Go to phone keypad and type: *#638738# - This brings up the "Configuration" menu because the *#1546792*# option doesn't do anything on branded ROMs - Change Country to "United Kingdom" - PHONE WILL HARD RESET.
6) Run Samsung Official ACHJ2 Updater for Vodafone ROM **NOTE** For some reason, my updater had "****EMERGENCY RESCUE MODE**** (or something like that anyway) - I selected this, left the other 2 boxes blank, and Hey Presto, the update worked!!
7) On completion of update, ensure you Soft Reset, and Voila! Vodafone Branded Omnia ready to be shipped back to Vodafone for repair!!!!

I Now have an Omnia showing:
PDA: i900XXHJ6/ACHJ2
PHONE: i900BUHJ1

If someone has a Vodafone Omnia on ACHJ2 ROM, I would be grateful if they can confirm these numbers to be correct.

Many, MANY Thanks go out to everyone on here who has posted details on flashing, how to change registry settings, hex editing etc., if it wasn't for me having so much information to help me, I'd never have done this, and £400 for a new phone? I think not.

Thanks to everyone for making this board such a great source of information, and in particular to those of you who spend so much time coding, cooking and releasing ROMs for us all to get the best out of this fantastic little (BIG) phone.

Hope this helps someone save about 2 weeks trying to solve this problem.

Cheers,
Carlos.

I'm new to this site, and I'm here because I just started to have trouble with my phone.

I bought a unlocked i900, this is my version.

PDA : i900DXHG3/DXHG3

PHONE : i900DXHG3

I'm in Michigan with AT&T. I had the HTC PPC6800, good phone, just don't have the features the i900 has.

Anyway, the problem I have is the predictive text stopped working.

And I have very bad signal strength when I'm at work or in my house. Something I never had with my HTC.

Should I update my Rom?

Is there a mod available to make the internal intena work better?

Any help would be great.

Mine is Vodafone Uk 8Gb model with ARM 920T PXA312 - 624Mhz
TV out
FM Radio
Motion sensors
5MP camera with Face and smile recognition WDR + (wide dynamic range) + GPS Positioning on Photos
Video recording with Slow motion
GPS
and lots more

The Omnia is 240 x 400 and this works just fine with all the apps I have put on it. they simply resize and no issues sofar.
I also got iGo 08 working with no problem the GPS (a-gps oFF) was simply found and worked straight away. you can run it in both portrait and landscape modes, but you need to start it in the mode you want to run it in as it wont auto switch using the motion sensors like most programs will. It also detected TMP hardware but dont seem to be able to tune in to any stations for the updates. - anyone know if this can be amde to work

The only downside is that its designed for finger use, if you start adding lots of non supplied programs then you find you need the stylus and theres no place to keep it

Will post a fuller review when I have had it more that 3 days

Bye

Is there a little peace of software around which allows me to just disable the internet?

I have a Samsung Omnia that won't boot anymore.
First I see the Omnia logo followed by the red vodafone screen. After that the phone just reboots again and again and again.

The phone was just standing on the table doing nothing, suddenly the phone went of and keeps rebooting.

Is there anything I can try to do to fix it ?

Hello all,
I need to switch to a windows mobile device and the Omnia has the largest screen of any phone that Verizon offers. I am legally blind/low vision and need a phone with a high contrast theme (white on black or bright yellow on black) and large fonts. Eventually I will also install some type of screen reader software like Code Factory on it but also like to make use of the sight I have left. In the past I have flashed a Moto V9m to Telus firmware to make use of their high contrast UI and recently have been using the LG Voyager because it offers a nice white on black theme and semi-large fonts.
Is there a way to change the fonts and font sizes on the Omnia. I would basically need to change all the default fonts, everything from menu's to sms font sizes.
The VZW store rep that refered me to this site also sugested that spb shells might be able to help. Since this would be my first Win Mobile device I'm feeling a little bit like a noob. lol Any and all help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi

Since a month I’m using the Samsung omnia I900 8GB

1 of the first things I noticed was the real quick downtime of the battery. It stays with me for 1 day and if I don’t recharge by the next morning its power is dead. Someone suggested looking for some power saving program that should be available here.

the other thing is that my phone keeps reconnecting to the GPRS network even if I closed down all the applications that use mobile internet (the describe it better the 3g icon keeps popping up in the upper bar, were your connection is shown, next to the slightly bigger icon). One of the shopkeepers told me that there should be a prog. down here somewhere as well that would help me manage this and would stay off if not needed and go on when need for like something as checking for e-mail or opening my browser

I’ve done a lot of searching on the forum before making this post, but to be honest it’s all a bit abra kadabra for me, so I was wondering if any of you here could help me out

hi everybody,
i am a omnia i900 user and i have experienced a wierd problem with my phone:
i was using my omnia with tom tom and port splitter on
the phone shut down becoause of lack of battery power.
from the day after that once i recharged it, the battery lasts a couple days if i'm lucky; before that incident it lasted 5 days.
I've already performed these operations without significant resoults:
hard reset, rom update, battery removal for 20 minutes etc, i don't have any gps or internet activated, that's the only problem I seem to have.
my guess is that shutting down the phone with port splitter has some how left open the port or whatever. I really don't know what to do
can somebody help me?

thanks...

I know how you feel, but this place is mainly about HTC devices. You need to be in forum where i900 Omnia users are gathered.

Here's the site I usually be:
http://www.pdamobiz.com/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=76

Sadly, the site is in Thai, but you can post in English. Many of Thais understand English and will provide you with the help you need. Moreover, there are many customized ROMs; most ROMs support English and Thai languages.

I am not advertising any site, just giving the right help to all PocketPC users.

Cheers. ;)

I'm having a issue with the Omnia guys.

I have installed TF2D for the phone so everything runs better than default. The problem is when i use the camera.

I can take pictures no problem, but whenever i select to record video, it shows it's recording but when i press stop and go to play it, it says "cannot read file".

If i lower the quality i can record for a bit but if i go over say 20 seconds then the error comes up.

My free storage memory is only 10% but it doesn't give any errors for critical memory or anything.

This is actually my mums phone and she wants to use this feature but the error if obviously preventing it from happening.

Any solutions except people telling me to hard reset or change roms?

forums are part of the main site as every decent site needs a place for support, but the main goal we have is to create an active Rom dump for all the newest released roms for the omnia as they come out and get released by the chefs.
secondary to that it is also going to contain anything else you may want or need for an Omnia like skins,a full cab repository, and a tips and tricks section for both the i900 and the i910.
hopefully we will see ya there

i like htc audio manager application and it wasn't showing up correctly on omnia's screen. so I have modified its screen resolution and graphics. Since it is freeware I guess it would be ok to post here. I didn't have time to put all in a cab file, instructions are included, sorry for that. have fun.

Is that app really released as Freeware, or not? HTC staying quiet don't mean it's freeware :)

I don't mind it being posted though ;)

i have installed wm6.5 on my omnia and i regret it. can anybody tell me how to downgrade back to samsung wigdet and wm6.1

thx alot

You can run the samsung screen on some of the W6.5 roms - not on mine though

Pretty sure it would be in:

Start->Settings->Today

OR

Start->Settings->Personal->Theme

Might be able to install that theme also - not sure though

I don't like Samsung too much, but the Omnia looks like a great phone - the new Marvell PXA320 processor running up to 800 MHz (stock speed) will be great choice for performance :)

thanks for the rom, buddy

Hello,
As i flash my phone a few times, i have my contacts on my sim. Normally I copy the contacts to phone but I'm using MyPhone too, so it downloaded the contacts automatically. Now if i delete my contacts from my SIM, the name isnt displayed when that contact calling(That contact is still in phonebook but not in sim) For example, my mother calls me, Mother--05xxxxxxxxx and if i delete her from SIM its like 05xxxxxxxxx only, just number. Please help me.By the way, in some contacts[1 or 2 not too much] if its not in sim only in phonebook it still shows the name, there isnt problem.I want all of them like this, when i delete from SIM, still show the name from Phone.
Phone:Samsung i900 Omnia
OS:WM 6.5
Version:PDA=DXID1 PHONE=JVHH2(since i cannot update the phone part in vista)

PS.:Sorry for my bad english and my mistakes, i'm 14 years old from turkey

I couldn't find what I was looking for at modaco but I need the most stable 6.1 or 6.5 available. I don't care about features. I use Mobile Shell 3 so I just want it to be stable because I'm running one of Shokka's roms and nothing is updating in Mobile Shell 3 (new SMS shows nothing).

Need the most stable rom to load MS3 over. Any idea's?

I found a site that is posting the new ROM release for upgrading the Omnia for Verizon. It works!!!!:D I have succesfully done this with my wife's and my Dad's Samsung Omnia phones.
After following the SCH-i900 User Upgrade instructions. Just set phone settings under system, GPS to (My Location). It just has to locate the sattelites.
Follow link to upgrade:

Hi!
I need help with my Omnia, the main problem I'm having is that applications tend to close or minimize to the today screen so I need to re-open them through the taskbar which is starting to be really annoying. The timing the apps jump to today screen is totally random.

Here I list the apps I have installed:
WM 6.5
SPB3
Foxit reader 2.0
RT Remote tracker
HD Wobble
Facebook 1.0.0.7
Vito SMS-Chat
Resco Explorer
App to date
G-Senson HTC drivers
G-Alarm
SkTools
MemMaid
QuickMark
Torchbutton

Help is really appreciated since I have been "googling" for a long time but couldn't find a solution.
Cheers!

Last night I ran into a QuickGPS version modified for the Omnia i900. I have installed it and it does download xtra.bin. I haven't tried it yet if I get a quicker fix.

When installing the is one file which has to be renamed. That's a file with "0409"in it in \windows\ I forgot the full name.
Rename this to your own country code, like in my case "0413"
Otherwise you get an error "can't create an empty document"

Just tested mToday which works on the Omnia.

"Description: mToday is an application for you to switch between two today screen profiles to enable/disable pre-defined today plug-ins quickly and conveniently."

Basically like second today. But you can make three profiles for switching the desired today screen.

mToday doesn't have many options. Just choosse the plugins per profile. Save the profile and creat a shortcut to a desired location to start the profile.

To check the "old"you had to check before upgrading.

After Hard Reset of the Omnia, some users were unable to get pass the alignment screen and end up in a loop. It kept asking the users for the screen alignment.

Let's us give u a simple solution to work out of the screen alignment trap and work for most users. Press and hold the + sign and it will move to another location. Perform the same thing by pressing and hold the + sign and continue until screen alignment is complete. It is best to use a stylus to perform this job although your finger can also perform the same thing.

Another method is go to notepad and create a file called welcome.not and save it to the removable memory card. Put the removable memory card back to your Omnia and ON it. You will get past the screen alignment trap and Omnia will start up.

There is a bug in the calibration software and the only way to get around it is by modifying the registry editor. This only work if you are able to load the software is just performing screen alignment for better performance.

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->HARDWARE->DEVICEMAP->TOUCH.
Change the key value for MaxCalError from 7 to a bigger value (for example 14). Do a soft reset and start a manual re-Align of the screen.

Hey there. As a native Dutch / English guy, i got a pretty difficult experience in finding an Arabic rom for a friend of me. After a day searching i managed to download the complete rom (in rar format) Because you have to sign in on several forums (also in arabic) to find it, i decided to dump it permanently on RapidShare. Make sure you have a decent usb cable and enjoy your newly flashed, unreadable omnia :)

Hello,

I am runnign WM6.5 Build 28002 on my omnia like a charm.
In WM6.5, you can now update GPS XTRA Data when syncing with ActiveSync. This works fine when syncing over USB.

When syncing via bluetooth, XTRA data are not updated automatically.
If you open GPS cfg panel and do it manually, it updates XTRA Data.

Any idea where prob comes from and/or ti fix it ?

Not sure whether yours is the first generation of Omnia i900 (16GB) version. If yes, better send it in for Warranty service as the first generation got problem with the Touch Synthesizer.
I just changed it myself as my Omnia warranty expired in Nov 2009 and they want to charge me for it. At least after I change, the response very fast and accurate.

It is about the digitizer. A synthesizer is somethingelse;)
No need to bring it in. It is a known problerms cause by a bug.

Tried that solution already. managed to skip the start-up alignment step. Tried increasing the MaxCalError value. Everytime you align, you'll need to keep adjusting the value. For my case started from 7 change to 14, then 20 all the way till 60. And if you need to access bottom of left and right, you can't point properly.
That's where I search further and realize that for first generation of Omnia, there is issue with the Digitizer. I ordered it and change it DIY (quite simple process). Now, it worked like brand new. The response also very fast (not laggy).

Just to share my own experience. For a while I really get frustrated to my Omnia. Till almost want to just throw it against the wall. Now, feel like better than new phone. Especially with the cooked rom of WM6.5

I think you mix up two problems.
1. not being able to finish the digitizer setup or to enter it after a hardreset.
2. the sensitivity of the digitizer, see the below link.

Now the phone turns and i can navigate in windows but i can't make any calls because all the info it says is.....PHONE OFF

I tried to reflash with grand prix and can't because the phone doesn't switch to modem part when i reset it as the program tells me too...

always get the message 'port open failed'

Asking or searching that question HERE (http://www.modaco.com/category/368/i900-general-omnia-rom-discussion/) might reveal a less sarcastic answer. ;)

That would be an easy no. For i900 roms and info see HERE. (http://www.modaco.com/category/368/i900-general-omnia-rom-discussion/)

Just tried playing with my omnia.. Flashed it and all went wrong. No red lights, no nothing. It wont power on. Plugging the charger doesnt do anything. Can it still be repaired or is it gone?

By repair you'll have to replace the board inside ;) Sorry (i think anyway)

Ouch! oh well it has served me well. And to think that was my very first attempt at flashing :(

captainstu72

What happened when flashing that got it into that state? You still have warranty?

captainstu72
4th October 2010, 12:18 PM
Nope, you can JTAG which is a bit of a nightmare to be honest, and expensive to get the kit for the Omnia.

bimmerboii
4th October 2010, 07:19 PM
No warranty, the phone's really old.. I tried flashing some file that I wasnt sure of (my mistake, i didnt read up enough on this) and BAM! the phone was dead. I think there are several local shops here which repair phones, hope they have the jtag you speak of

captainstu72
5th October 2010, 10:35 AM
as a heads up - JTAG generally requries taking the phone apart and soldering, however, parts exist for the omnia to just solder to a board and push against the pins.

http://www.ipmart.com/main/product/JTAG,Omnia,Adapter,Compatible,For,Samsung,i900,102 275.php?prod=102275

Is the part, there is a bulk load of JTAG schemas on the net, and I'm sure no doubt with a little bit of googling you'll be able to find some relative to the omnia.

I have used IPmart before and only have good things to say about their service.

But this is all assuming you want to do this yourself. From when I fried my Omnia (Laptop crashed whilst flashing a rom!) this seemed the only option, and at the time, I still had warranty so just got a new one :P

I think most phone repair shops do not do this type of fix, thats at least based on where I live.

Theres a link in my sig for JTAG HTC Touch, this may well be completely different, but it could give you an idea of what the process is.

Hope thats helped, and sorry for rambling.

How in the world did a thread in off topic about a slide to unlock app get almost 500,000 views and 90 pages or replys?

You're probably to young to remember the omnia. It was a good phone in 2008. If you look at the thread title you might realize that the omnia did not have a dedicated forum on xda it only had a thread.

The minimum hardware, and the hardware used in the omnia make it improbable it will ever happen. I say improbable, when I am pretty sure its impossible, but still.

The 1ghz min processor is just a few more mhz then what the omnia has for a start :(

Hi to all.
I hope to have your help posting here.
I have my I900 since March 2009 and my gps is ok until I take my device in assistance for a screen changing.
After this episode I have some problems with my gps.
I installed Igo, I downloaded Xtra, but satellites were reds and didn't become yellow or green.
Igo finds internal gps without problems and it connects with it without problems, but I can't fix.

"Gps test" finds Gps and I can read on it "Gps starting up" andsometimes "Gps running"

What I can do to discover the real problem?
What do you think about ?
Thanks for you support

P.S. I tried to make a search in the forum, but there wasn't nothing for my problem.

your phone is software bricked not a hardware problem
find a way-search on internet- to put it in "download mode"
in this mode you can rewrite firmware I know that it's not easy
I did this on a linksys router
by example see this to understand what I'm talking about
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mi8D7a_PKA&feature=related
also share all things to get response by example tell me if you put there Samsung CDMA drivers this is very important to know!
also try a hard reset power+call+end call what happens there?

So, I'm gonna paste the question I asked in the wrong thread and they redirect me here, hoping that someone could clear this to me, so here's the original question:
"So, just to understand better about WinMo ROM's ... When they say:
"Windows Mobile 6.5 (or 6.5.3) ROM, and lets say QVGA (WQVGA) resolution, this means that it is valid for all kind of phones with QVGA/WQVGA resolutions (if certain phone models are not mentioned), right?
Or let me put it this way: you have 2 models with the same WQVGA (i think thats for 240x400), on one side you have for example HTC and from the other side you have Samsung (doesn't matter what models are), both running on Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro and you have now a new Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM supporting WQVGA screen. Is that ROM gonna be valid for both of the phones or there is ROMs for HTC and ROMs for Samsung or other models?

I'm asking this cuz I want to clear this things in my head so to know what and how to do certain things in the future regarding instalations of ROM, Themes, Skins etc."

As you know, I'm not a computer novice, I have pretty big knowledge about computers, especially in software department, but never in mobile software and I am that kind of a person who need to understand everything about something I wanna do it for the first time, like here with mobile softwares. 4 Days ago I did a first flashing of a cooked rom (K1's Windows Mobile 6.5.3 Rom for Omnia i900 v1.7.2 XPR) and first time was a charm cuz of my previous reading and understanding rom's. But what I couldn't find is my qestions about the problem mention it in the questions posted above in this post, so I would be very thankful if someone here explains me that.
I have already a SE Xperia Arc S, but I have my beloved Omnia i900 (which I love it so much) and wanted to bread her a new life with cooked new roms.

Thank you infront and big hello from Republic of Macedonia
Boris.

Every ROM is specific to one particular make and model. You cannot use a ROM for a Samsung phone on a HTC phone.

BorisMKD
12th February 2012, 11:13 AM
Thank you DirkGently for your response, it was a simple and very good explanation.
So, just to be clear, in future if I want to flash a ROM on Omnia i900, I should search for roms made especially for Omnia i900 (WQVGA), or at least it will be no hurt if I ask the chief of the particular ROM if it's gonna work on Omnia i900. :))
Once again, thank you for your answer :)
Cheers.
