They were his works and IMHO he's got every right to decide that they shouldn't be spread any more.

I think this is just exactly what made him retreat from this forum!
Unfortunately I think he's right that we're moving somehow on the edge of legality (or does anyone have a licence for Windows Mobile 6.1 instead of 6.0?!? Like MS's update policy or not - that's how it is!), and now we're not even respecting his personal wish not to be associated with this grey area any more...

While I'd think he wouldn't really mind if those images get swapped on a personal basis I'd say at least they shouldn't be made available publicly any more.

I can't imagine that any of us would want to cause any stepping stones for his future carreer after all the great stuff he has delivered for us in the past!
But that's just what's possibly happening!

Somehow this also for me creates a slight feeling that XDAdevs slightly is becomming a wharez-forum (also seen quite some hack/crack-requests recently) - and I'd REALLY pity if that would become the rule as it easily could mean serious trouble for the Admins and so maybe even the Dev's forum being shut down...

Just my two cents.

We do respect Meschle's decision and we all appreciate his work, but don't you think that all these Roms and Programs were someone else property before they get developed? we are not stealing anyone's work, most of us have these roms on our devices and we are not doing anything but to share it with everybody.

yep, I do agree with you that the ROMs originally are someone elses property: M$.
And that's just where I'm coming from:
As said no WM6.1 ever was released for the Artemis, so most probably M$ won't consider them as absolutely legal.
Even where I also do not appreciate their Update Policy for WM...
Now there's just such ROMs about which easily can be tracked back to meschle as the originator who also made them public - another thing that M$ never liked!
So, in case M$ ever would look into such cooked ROMs they automatically would step over him.

Meschle, in case you're still reading the posts from time to time maybe you could make a statement on how you do see it?

At the end of the day indeed it was your great work! :)

We all respect Meschles decision, but he stated he no longer wants his name associated with the ROMS. He also stated that there are copies of his ROMS around and there is nothing he can do about it. He is no longer hosting them, nor supporting them, taking donations, or even talking about the ROMS so I think now this is OK.

I was going to download and install WM6.1 on my MDA Compact III ... but which file shall i use, and what are the differences between them (3.0, 4.0, 4.01, 4.02, 4.03)

Good evening .

I have been trying to solve a problem that i have with my o2 xda. The problem is that the Bluetooth device is not working, it won’t even start, and I tried to turn it on from the communications manager but nothing. I tried to turn it on from the settings/communications/Bluetooth/turn Bluetooth make it visible to devices, but also nothing.
It turns on when I soft reset the device a few times, than sometimes it comes back on with the Bluetooth on, blue light flashing, but I’m unable to get it to pair with any devices. Sometimes my laptop will pick up the signal for a few seconds, but it is not able to sink with device.
I have tried everything I could think of, even have done some hard resets but nothing.

Someone told me to do an Artemis reset. So I downloaded the 4.02 with cube zip that I found around this website, but since I have never done such a procedure, in fact this is my first time with windows mobile, so I didn’t want to mess it up.

I read in this forums that third party applications can cause sometimes this problems because of driver contamination , my device did have lots of extra apps so that could be the problem .

In any case I’m not an expert, not even close especially with this system, so any help / suggestions / diagnostics / instructions, will be greatly appreciated.

The device is an o2 xda with built in gps, running windows mobile 6.1.

Well I cannot help you with the bluetooth problem, but I can help you with flashing the Artemis Touch 4.02 on your device.

Acutally is really simpel, and hardly anything can go wrong.

The easiest way is flashing your device on a Windows XP computer.

First of all remove your sim card and your Micro SD memoy card.
After doing this, turn on your device (make sure the battery is at least at 50%).
Now connect your device with the computer, using Active Sync.
So now it's connected and you're ready to flash the device.

Now go to the map where you have extracted the files of the Artemis 4.02 rom.
In this map you will find to files named: step1 and step2. Guess what, first you need to run step 1, and after doing so, and USPL (= CID Unlock your phone) had finished, and you're phone is connected again to your computer through Active Sync, run step2.

If you're phone is already CID Unlocked, you can skip step1 and go directly to step2. If you're not shure if your device is CID Unlocked, just run step1 to make sure it's really CID Unlocked.

How do you mean no connection? If there is no connection in the first place, flashing won't be able. You first have to establish a connection through active sync.

Tja van een beste rom kan je niet echt spreken, het is net wat jij wil. De artemis 4.02 roms, zijn vlot, zitten al wat leuke programma's standaard in, die in mijn ogen ook wel nuttig zijn. De Cube functie hoeft van mij niet percee en maakt je toestel alleen maar trager.

De snelste versie, maar ook de kaalste is de Vanilla versie. Ikzelf ben erg tevreden met de Lite versie.

De nieuwe rom van Tom, de Oops Black v1.0 WWE Rom schijnt nog sneller te zijn dan de Vanilla versie, maar zoals je daar kan lezen zijn er ook de nodige mensen die bugs ervaren. Sommige ook totaal niet. Maar goed het is dus aan jou of je dat aangaat/durft ;) Verder is dat ook een vrij kale rom. Keuze is dus aan jou.


English:
There is no such thing as a best rom, it just depends on what you want. The Artemis 4.02 roms, are pretty fast, they also have some nice and usefull programs included. I personally don't need the cube function, it only makes my device slower.

The fastest 4.02 version is the Vanilla version, but is has nog many other programs included. I'm personally very pleased with the Lite version.

The newest rom of Tom, the Oops Black v1.0 WWE Rom, seems to be even faster then the Vanilla rom, but as you can read for yourself, a couple of people have found some bugs, but others don't even notice them. It's up to you to decide if you want to try that rom or not. In this rom there are also hardly any other programs installed. The choice is up to you.

Just download and install from the opera mini site.
You can put any radio rom on your device, it's the same like flashing an other rom. But with only the radio rom your internal memory won't be ereased.

This is a common problem. Most of the time it helps to run uspl one more time (eg step1 in the Artemis 4.02 roms) before flashing.

I also read on the internet, that a soft reset, followed by a hard reset could solve the problem. But most people solved it by running uspl once more.

Also don't forget to remove your micro-sd card and sim card before flashing.

As far as I know there is no dutch Vanilla version. If you want Vanilla you'll have to stick with the English version.

To be honest with you, I don't think there are real big differences.

Here is the 4.02 info so you van find out for yourself if you need the 4.02 version or you can stick with the 4.01 version:

Hi. I already have this amazing rom. And my phone was already unlocked before i flashed it.

But what i want to know is, would flashing this rom onto a mda version of this phone locked to orange, would it unlock the sim so any sim can be used? like vodafone or 02 etc..?

So basically, will flashing this rom using steps1 and 2 included in the download unlock the sim lock?

The only thing that unlocks is the CID with step one.

The screen is set to go to sleep in 2 minutes in the settings.
The screen DOES go to sleep after two minutes but wakes up by itself almost immediately thereafter.
The flashing on and off of the bright screen at night is driving me crazy, not to mention the battery drain.
How do I KEEP the screen off permanently till I press the power key and not until then as was happening with WM5 which I had earlier before upgrading to this Touch ROM?

Try to flash the ROM again. It's better allways to flash two times, when talking about cooked ROMs.

When you restart your device do you have SPL 1.11.000?

I had SPL 1.11.000 so I just reflashed the same ROM again (Touch 4.02) but I have the same problem.
When I put it to sleep by pressing the power button on the side, the display stays off for a variable time between 14 to 55 seconds and comes on again after that automatically.
Even when I let it go to sleep automatically, the same thing happens.
Any other ideas?

After a short experimentation using some ROMs from here and there, i ended up using the Artemis Touch 4.02 LITE, and i must say i am very satisfied by it.
One thing is bothering me though, i just want to have total control of the GPRS usage, because of the cost from my provider. The weather is being automatically updated when i press the weather button, and i'd prefer to have a choice if i want to get the update, as i need an update only once per day...
The ROM is fast and efficient, i recommend it for the p3300!!

Hi, I just flashed with Artemis_Touch_4.02_Vanilla but cannot find a Skype version that works with my artemis. I have ARTE 100. I have tried the latest Skype version from their site but sound is impossible to hear when i try a test call :(.

I would also love to be able to innstall a Norwegian keyboard and dictionary on my phone, any link would be highly appreciated.

All other software i have innstalled works very good and i am very happy with my HTC right now. A lot of free Ram and memory.

BTW, this is a great forum with a lot of people full of knowledge.

is it something that happens sometimes to loose the gps after installing vanilla?

there is no reg tweaks or so to start the gps?

was given the suggestion to re-flash, is this the only way?

Vanilla 4.02 show symbol E all the time but 4.01 didn't show. Anyone know how to fix it?

I have tried the artemis touch 4.02 vanilla but there is no way to have the GPS working (i tried many soft as tomtom6, vito activetrace, ...)

then I reopened it and set the good settings (port 4, 9000 kbps, autmatic access), tried tomtom and it worked even after a soft reset.

the probleme that I didn't solve is other application cannot find the GPS (vito active trace)

Only one device can use the compoort. To use it for extra programs you have to use fransons gpsgate (http://gpsgate.com/)

Hello.

Wonder if you can help me with a problem im having here.

I've installed the Artemis Touch 4.0.2 full version on my p3300 and everything seems to be working fine except for 2 things:

1 - can´t send sms's, keep receiving the message "Your text message cannot be sent"

2 - Gprs isnt working. Message received: "There is a problem connecting to the GPRS service in your registered home network"

Any ideas of what is going on in here? :|

Thank you all but I do not need more of the aid on because there is no coordination of movement of the cube, as already installed another rom (4.02 without being a red & black), and yes it occurs to some animation of the cube.

I wonder how the movement of activation of the cube, because even reading the instruction of the first post where I talk to move the finger in the direction of the arrow, it does not occur (the only times unintentionally!).

I would also like to know how to change the format of the number to xxxxxxxx, as happens in Brazil, instead of (xxx) xxx xx as is in default!

I have installed from the original wm6 the rom Artemis touch 4.02WME .The rom performs well and overall is faster.But I have some problems first of all bluetooth does not work secondly when I go to clear temp the following items are reported not found those are : Opera Mobile cache , Minimo cache,NetFront 3.2 cache, NetFront 3.3 cache,NetFront 3.4 cache,Custom Folder 1 ,Custom Folder 2,Large Mail,Mail Attachment,Spb traveller.Also some times battery status disappear.I have a 4 gb sd card .Waiting some suggestion .Thank in advance for your help

On the issue of the photo, the message did not finish that (I think) not picked up a signal from satellite yet, try open any program that starts up its GPS (I love the Tomtom7, I know, this is the earliest the boot the GPS signal) and then reopen the camera with the kind of photo GPS, do with the signals from GPS already initialized by Tomtom (or other software of your choice) can still finish the message, and success at the reception.

How do you mean no connection? If there is no connection in the first place, flashing won't be able. You first have to establish a connection through active sync.

If I start a GPS Software before the GPS Photo, it's still "Initiliazing...", but the GPS Software freezes :(

Did you run USPL before?
If so, then remove your SD card and try again.
BUT, DO NOT FLASH WITHOUT RUNING USPL FIRST.

the first stage is the USPL so try the one on the post of USPL... and after it goes to 100 you have to wait a few seconds then an update utility should come out.. then follow the instruction.
after it finished (it will gave you if succeeded)

run the step to.
this should work.

if not try to hard reset and then do the previous..

I have installed the 4.02 version, there is a good profile feature. But, on any entry (also free) on my calendar they change to automatic to vibrate.

How can I change that will only change, when on calendar the entry is Busy / Out of office?

Everything will be lost after upgrade and you have to do it all again manually. So if your contacts are on device only and you want to lose them, a copy of your contacts to SIM card is recomended to be done before upgrading ROM.

Hi, i have a problem with step 1 when installing 4.02 lite. I have started STEP 1, it was loading normally till 70% and then my device turned off, and in the "complete bar" from 70% it became 100%. I thought there is nothing bad with it, but when i started step 2, it loaded to 3% and then said that files are corrupted. I have read here that i must do STEP 1 again, but the problem was the same.. 70% - 100%.. files corrupted.. I tried again and again many times.. but nothing changed..So please, anyone, help me!:):confused:

Try to download ROM once more.
Before falshing remove SD card.
Run first .bat file (in "windows" window it will go to 100% very fast)
Phone will reboot itself, wait until it will activesync and then run second .bat. It should work.
Sometimes connection error appears, then try flashing once more.

After flashing Artemis 4.02 lite without cube, the wireless problem occurs.
Wireless networks detected and when I put the password it doesn't connect and the network becomes unavailable. Tried with many networks and different security.

What's the reason?

Could you advise how to change the icons to make them bigger for applications (ie word, excel) screen and other screens with email and music icons.

Hello to everyone on this great community....you have all been very helpful with all of your advice, and all this software.

As you may understand I am new to roms, flashing etc.

I decided to flash my P3300 with some a of the cooked roms that I found in the pages of this post, but with no luck. I have tried all of the roms that I can find in the post, and always get the same thing. As soon as 3% is reached I get error 207, the file is corrupt. So after some search I found that I can download same roms from different places (also within this post) and so I did. No luck again.

Always same message. I saw someone that had the same problem, and you proposed hard reset, running uspl cid again, etc. did all of that, but still no luck, any other ideas?

then you haven't tried enough roms yet, as there are lots of roms that are faster and have manila 2d already in them. also point to the wise. Manila and touch usually conflict as manila disables any other today plugins as soon as it runs

Just wanted to say thanks. I installed the Lite version 4.02 With Cube about 3 weeks ago and everything is working great. I had to make a few registry adjustments (don't remember what I did) to make the cube go to pocketmusic player (I installed this afterwards) when tapping on music, but other than that it's all good.

Im trying to understand how to install the roms on my MdA3. But i Cant find a real manual about that. Meanwhile ive unlocked my phone ( Sim & Cid) but i dont know how to install the 4.02 rom. would anybody be so kindly an help me with a step by step manual?

I have a weird previously unknown error with the vanilla version of this rom.

My Connections manager has a weird FONT problem. It has changed! The size is a little different, and looks real crappy! I have included some screenshots of before and after. But is more noticeable on the device itself.

Did you enable or disable clear type? Try to toggle it on or off and see if it fixes things.

Yes. I have tried that. It did not work..

But i never had to have clear type enabled in the begining anyway.
Besides, i dont think that would effect the font..

Other ROMs, such as BB have China Mobile included in their Network Wizard. This automatically sets up both Internet and MMS, which seem difficult to do by hand. The Touch ROMs do not have this. Is there a way to get an updated Network Wizard or can someone tell me where the configuration files are stored, maybe I can compare two ROMs.

I think artemis touch 4.02 is superb but HTC Home customizer is missing. Why is my shared internet from computer not working though activesync and I chose 'This network connects to internet" in activesync.

It was working fine earlier with original wm5 from T-mobile, when I had not used artemis touch 4.02.

I am new to Windows Mobile but managed to flash my ROM without any problem to 4.02 WWE WM 6.1 ROM given here...

Thanks to all of u for your help and post which gave me enough confidence to go through with it.

Now that I have started flashing the ROM.. I would like to try more ROMs to see which one suits my needs the most.. Is there a common location where I can find all the ROMs???

I have already tried the FTP (ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Uploads/Artemis/) but could hardly find any ROMs there.. :(

Also tried the wiki where I could only find the original ROMs (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Artemis_Upgrades)

Need help flashing the 4.02 version of the ROM in this thread..

I had successfully flashed it about a month and half back but then I liked the UI of Achilles's ROM and flashed it but it has a lot of performance related issues so decided to roll back but now I am not able to flash this ROM back for some reason.

I ensure that Activesync is connected and start the flashing.. but when the screen becomes blank with white screen which I believe is supposed to happen, and on my PC it shows that it will take about 10 minutes to complete the operation and then asks me to check if the phone is connected to the cradle. See the attached screenshot for the error. :confused: :confused:

Any idea why this is happening? I am not able to flash any ROMs now. I also tried running the USPL but that also ran into the same problem.

Taking it as some settings related issue, I tried it on another machine and also tried hard resetting the phone so that all the settings are set to default but didn't help.. :( :(

First of all, thanks to all the help from people on this thread, had a bit of trouble installing the new ROM (Artemis Lite - no cube) but got there in the end after some troubleshooting on here.

However, I've got a bit of a problem, the ROM's installed, but the bar at the top and the bar at the bottom are both still in the original green. Also, the highlighting of objects is in green. This really detracts from the overll ROM, and I';m just wondering how I can solve it.

I've tried install both the cube and no cube versions, both to no avail. Still green.

you seem to be new with the phone :)

it is green because of the theme

go to start > settings > today

and change the theme
try to get a nice black theme to match the looks of ROM

google it youll get many (themes are *.tsk files)

Hey everyone.

I used 4.02 Vanilla ROM for over a year, and I am sorry to say so, but it deretoriates over time.

I had to switch it to some new ROM a couple of weeks ago because every keypress took several seconds to register, and after not rebooting for a couple of weeks it had troubles with alarm clock sound playback.

I tested new ROM and got bad issued. I switch back to 4.01 vanilla most stable.

Anyone have any problems installing .Net CF 3.5 on these roms? Tried several times on Vanilla 4.02 but always get "shutdown applications, free more memory" error, even after hard reset. Worth trying 4.01?
