Hello, just wanted to share my findings about the speed on SD cards.
I've recently tried several different great :D ROMs, from Leo and Dutty. And with TomTom installed with Western Europe Map. This map is fairly big, almost 1 GB.
On my Kaiser, TomTom lagged a great deal when driving, meaning that the map moved only about every one second. On my friends Kaiser, the map moved very smooth. So I started to investigate this, as all of you that are trying new ROMs are concerned about the different ROMs speed.
I did a little Googling and found essentially this:
SD Cards with capacity above 2GB has a class marking. Class 2, 4 and 6 - 6 being the fastest. (See the attached picture.)
On my two Kaisers, one had a 4GB Class 4 card and the other had 4GB Class 6. This was the only difference in the above scenario. Experimenting with those to SD Cards, showed a big difference in performance reading from the SD Card like the TomTom maps now being very smooth. TomTom just being an example here of the speed difference.
I'm not big on benchmarking, mabye some of you could add some numbers to show the difference in read speed / Classes.
Just thought I would point out this (rather obvious) finding. So that when you want to buy a new SD card, make sure it's class 6 :)
The Doc.
