So, I have noticed that a lot of the newer roms have a discover icon flashing in the system tray. Is there a way to disable that? Its really irritating, and I like to leave bt discover on all the time.
Thanks!
I've tried looking in the forums and on google, but I havent found anything helpful

This isnt on the today screen its in the tray... see attached screenshot.
The only items I have on my today screen are HTC home, battery status, resco and IM+ but none of those applications have those features, and when I have everything tunred off and just a plain today screen it still does it.
I just flashed my friends phone... turned on bt discover and the icon is there.. its so irritating what can I do to get rid of this thing!?
Thanks!

Battery Status
Have you disable tray launch in battery status?

I use the tray launch stuff from battery status, but the flashing bluetooth icon is not part of battery status. Like I said, I just flashed my friends phone and have not installed battery status yet and it still does it. I think its part of the new WM6.1 roms

Sorry, it was a guess and it looks like a bad one at that in hind sight.

It’s in the Bluetooth file sharing settings. If you select Setting>Connections>Bluetooth>FTP>Enable File Sharing (check) the icon is always flashing. I’m sure it’s some registry setting that can be modified to fix it.

Yah I've been looking all over the registry, I have no clue even where to start though honestly, any settings I change are 100% pure guesswork which makes me a bit nervous about trying

you've checked?:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items
For what exactly? as i said this does not appear to be related to any today screen plugins

go to start\settings\connections\bluetooth
under bluetooth go to timeout tab
you'll see "Turn off Visible mode:"
select "after 1 minute" in the dropdown menu.
wait for 1 minute & the flashing is gone in the tray.
hope this help. :D

Thats a timeout for discovery mode... so of course after 1 minute when discovery mode turns off, that icon will go away.

All you have to do is turn off "Discoverable".
Any Bluetooth item you have already paired with will still work, so there is no need to have discoverable on all the time, is there?

if you have paired devices no need to have the discover me on, this is only use when you want new devices to see you . . .

alternatively, delete 'BTFlashIcon' key from HKLM\Services\App\Tasks\

Yes - that was my point exactly.

Yes again, but on some of these roms, when you select File Sharing for Bluetooth, it also enables device visible to other devices.

Ah, good point.
Back to the OP's question: But when using for this specific purpose, is it so annoying that the icon is flashing, once one knows why it is there, and knows that it can be easily vanished when one if finished with File Sharing? And if one does not ever, or infrequently, uses File Sharing, make sure that "Discoverable" is not selected, so the "annoying" flashing icon is banished?
