i toyed with the thought of posting it on its own new thread but changed my mind because i feel that if shogun wanted it he would have started a new thread. all he told me i could do is share the rom with others and to be sure you all knew to give him credit for his work. so i posted it in this V4 thread beause it has been his only busy thread. if one of the mods wants to do shogun up a new thread for it that would be great!

Probably makes little sense to start a thread for an unsupported and beta rom.

You are absolutely right, which is why I tried to do it. Putting aside your valid statement (which was also my feeling) that people will not be going to an 8+ month old thread with the wrong version number, there is also a reality that a 500 post thread is not useful even if it is on point.

There is no one who will dig through a series of posts this long even if it the topic was on point.

Oh well.

Perhaps shogunmark can edit his first post to say this thread now includes beta rom 5 in post # ???

Even if people knew to look here, it's still too deep. There is an unfortunate chasm between mods and help seekers. Yes, there are too many people who start improper threads, or ask questions without searching BUT those threads (if people respond with an answer instead of a flame) are FAR more useful than 500+ post threads.

I have read every post in this thread because I have been here since before v4.0 was released. I know this post contains help on fixing the movable SIP bug and how to fix the proxy bug. But if I didn't know that, would I flip through 500 posts of "Hey, can you add WeatherBug to the ROM because that would be great?" Of course not.

It is just unfortunate that the feeling has become "few threads of infinite length" is FAR better than "more threads of a reasonable length" because while that may work for an OP who knows the exact words to use to do a forum-wide search, that is not the case for people looking for help ... which breeds flames and closed threads.

But, of course, it's their board ... so they have every right to do as they wish, and we need to respect that.

All good points.

I'm using v5 now and loving it!

I am still thinking whether to go for it. The reinstall process, even with Sashimi, has me hesitating. If its ok, a few questions:

1) Is this Lite (business) or totally weighed down (full)
2) Are you using/testing with a 1.71 Radio and if so, did the performance of that radio vs. the battery get any better?
3) What HardSPL are you using
4) What is different?

Thanks!

I don't think its a full version but I'm probably not the best person to ask about that.

I'm using 3.29 SPL.

Radio 1.71 is having very good battery life.

I was using Garmin D.K.8 rom but some of my 3rd party applications weren't liking it. This ROM is very fast and works very well with AT&T.

I feel like I am probably asking this question into the void but ...

Are any of the Beta Testers from v5 on this thread, and if so, since the beta test is over, would you be willing to speak up and say what might be new or different in v5?

Also, I have a few specific questions:

1) Were any of the drivers which were optimized to use Radio 1.71 incorporated (v4 had very poor battery performance with Radio 1.71, but other ROM threads mentioned cooked drivers were also needed)

2) Are there any OS level changes or is this just adding additional programs

3) Is this "Business/Lite" or the full loaded version.

Thanks!

Well, until the mods change their decision and realize that a 500+ thread which is off topic is not the best place for Beta 5 questions and posts, I guess I will be talking to myself :(

For those thinking about v5Beta, I have installed and found that it is a 'lite' version of the ROM (not overly bloated like the non-lite version), but has the following bugs:

1) Cannot flash to 1.71 Radio ... it gives me a bad flash error on the tri-color screen when I boot up. All other radios, including 1.70 do work
2) Arcade Park does not work (will not even start up)
3) Astraware GTS World Racing does not work (black screen only)
4) The cooked in Office Game requires a soft reset when done
5) Email no longer can be set to check via Wifi if Wifi is present before moving to 3G if it isn't. (v4 allowed this).

That's all I found/know so far. It does seem like a very nice ROM but bug 5 is very problematic. Would love to hear from ANY beta testers out there as to known/actual bugs. They have to exist because the ROM is dated late October.

someone post it in its own thread then

msd24200 - I think this is kinda taking on a life of its own, and, as mentioned I must defer to the mods. I am more responding to the message you posted than the message it was edited into (which is there now).

I am thankful for ShoGunMark's efforts in his v4 ROM and for his attempt to update it. I am grateful that you checked into whether you could post it, and then that you posted it. At no point did I mean to discount ANY of that. THANK YOU BOTH FOR YOUR EFFORTS TO BRING A REAL AT&T BASED ROM TO TO THE TILT.

I was always under the impression that XDA-DEVELOPERS was here for users to ask for other users help. That is all I was hoping to do on v5. I am not asking or expecting ShoGun to respond. You made it clear he wouldn't. That's why waiting for him to create a thread, as the only way to start a thread, won't work. We have so many garbage threads on XDA ... ONE on v5 pales in significance.

However, when I started a new relevant thread, it was closed immediately by one of the mods under that mods false belief that there was a thread for v5. I then started posting here, but, there are no responses because this is not the proper thread for v5. I was in a catch-22.

I don't care who starts the v5 thread. If one of the beta testers wants to start that thread, all the better as they know what bugs were reported. I will be more than happy to start a thread posting my observations, if you think you can keep the mods from simply shutting it down.

I honestly just want to put this issue to rest, and find some way to seek some help from other users who may have workarounds or knowledge that I don't. That's all.

Thanks.

easy start the new thread and entitle it something like Showgunmarks Death V5.4 Beta (unsupported) upload some screen shots, and post it, and let me know right before you do it and I'll gave Dave or tater a holla, and make sure its all good. Shogun never said we couldn't give it a thread only to make sure he gets credit for his hard work, and that I could share it with you all and thats what I have done.

Okay, I don't know if this is a radio issue (I am using 1.71.09.01) or the rom, but I am finding that occasionally when I soft reset or replace the battery that the unit is locking up during the boot phase and not connecting to the network signal. A soft reset usually fixes it the second time.

I have tried a hard reset but it still happens occasionally.

What other radios are people using with the ROM that may work better?

This thread now attempts to support 2 different ROM's, so I will assume you are on the v5 through your footer. If you were on v4 I can say that I never had any issues with v1.71 radio, other than awful battery life.

On v5 I have tried on 3 separate occasions to flash to 1.71 radio, each time I never get past the tri-color, with a ROM error. I have been able to boot on v1.70 radios.

I will probably have to abandon v5 shortly. I like it, but of the bugs I have been living with (posted in a prior thread), the one I cannot continue to live with is the inability of the phone to elect the connectivity path of "IF WIFI, USE WIFI, IF NO WIFI, USE 3G/EDGE/ETC" for email. If the email account is set for "The Internet" it will not start the cellular modem to check for email - its wifi or bust.

Yes, I meant Death 5.4.

I was able to flash 1.71 via the SD method without a problem, but now will try to flash 1.70 to see if that works better.

Shogunmarks Death V5.4Betta is unsupported try using hardspl3.56 if you flash this rom as that was the spl I used and had no problems.

Anyone know how to change the Volume control back to the Default, as in-call volume doesn't seem to be working?

Thanks

Finally found my answer....

Very nice rom. But i have an question: how can you setup the "text-message recieved option"? The option that's sends you a text message after delevering a text message. I can't find the option on this rom.

Thanks.

I used KaiserTweak to change that.
