Is this the same as v4 except with fewer bundled applications, or are there additional changes?

Looks good either way!

Thanks for the new version. I will try this evening.

Actually after few day using V4.1 (as well as V3.5) I came back to V2. To me, V2 is the best in term of speed and stability. :p

I don't want to fill up the forums with another useless post, but I really had to give you (and all the incredible, hard-working cooks of xda-dev) major props.
I'm a chronic, compulsive ROM flasher. I've tried every ROM I could possibly find over the last four months or so.
Up until recently I had lurked the Death ROM thread, but had never flashed any of the builds until v4.1 and now flashing 4.1lite.

I have to say, as far as speed, functionality, and feel, Death is in a category of its own. I had bounced between L26, Dutty's, Hyperdragon, and ryncppr most recently, and though they have each individually made amazing contributions to ROM development, none of the ROMs run like this one.
Maybe I am having a different experience than other users and this one just happens to work incredibly on my particular device? Maybe it has do with the fact that you cook and tweak it for AT&T/TILT (I also use a Tilt)?
Whatever it is, it will take one hell of a rom to pry me away from Death.
When I pull myself out of debt, I'll donate some dough your way. If you're ever in the Los Angeles area, I'll buy you a drink (or 5). If you ever want/need sound design for anything (custom sounds[beeps, blips, rings, w/e] for ROMs, sites, software; films, post-production work), need recording, mixing, mastering work, whatever--just send me a PM.

You have ended my compulsive flashing in search of a ROM I can feel content with. My life has returned (though I compulsively check for updates still). I really liked V4, but as far as applications, I mainly text/email compulsively, Opera, and Calendar. Calendar is vital to keeping my life together and ThumbCal was not cutting it. 4.1 solved my problems.

Thanks to all the cooks again. Please don't flame me for the ass-kissing. I wouldn't have if I didn't feel it was necessary.
And since I'm here I might as well ask--

Do you know how I can make Calendar recognize a phone number typed in the location field so I can click them to dial? I can do a "tel:###.###.####" in the Notes section, but the Location field would be so much more convenient (my blackjack did it).

Also, any ideas as to how to make wifi more reliable? I think it's my crappy router, but sometimes it just can't authenticate or loses connection a lot.

Is there any way to cook IMAP-IDLE functionality into the standard email program on WM6.1 without using the (unreliable) software solutions that are out there right now?

Just flashed and am getting an error when I start the camera app... "The file 'camera' cannot be opened..." Haven't tried to troubleshoot yet but nothing obvious. I used the last version with this radio no problem, and all the right camera files appear to be there but it's not working. A little late at night to be trying to solve so I'll look at it tomorrow but could be an issue.

Have you tried to install a camera CAB? This should probably fix it until it's fixed.

I've been very happy with the Death v4.1 ROM. However I had to hit the power button twice from time to time to get it out of his sleep. Been using the HyperDragon ROM after this. But I will try this lite version as well, probably sooner than I might think.

Keep up the great work!

I've been wondering also if their are any changes to the ROM except the ammount of apps that have been removed?

Make a copy of carrierlogo.gif from windows and keep for sagety

Unzip and copy the attached transparent image to windows with total commander allowing it to overwrite and you should eliminate the carrier logo from the dialer.

For the IE connection go into programs and run the diable proxy. Then use connection wizard in settings/connections to set up your carrier.

You need the keyboard fix and you'll want to go to the screen where you can select the city for weather. The right softbutton gives you options, in there, you can select celcius.

Im starting to think my kitchen has become corrupt... I tried to reinstall the nadavi camera cab that i used for a package on my test phone and that didnt fix it.

No doubt about it. Once the camera issue is resolved, this rom is getting in on the Homestead Act on my phone.

@ poster asking about 1588 benchmark.

Every device is different even if it is the same.

I actually have a tilt sans-camera so that "bug" isn't bothering me so far.

I haven't posted much but I've flashed every rom posted for the past two months and I like this one alot. I am a US user so it is cooked very nicely "out of the box" for me.

To answer a previous question - HTC Home and HHC are installed

This rom seems VERY fast and smooth to me.

I like Opera 9 - nice funcionality.

Screen flips very quick and smooth!

I did notice that I have had to hit the power button to wake-up the phone a few times though... not a biggie for me.

to keep with the spirit of it being light, why cant audio manager just be kept out. i and im sure a lot of people never use it. theres already wmp and s2p which is the best. it just takes up craploads of space for nothing. same with opera 9. lots of people prefer opera mini but dont want it cooked in. besides i cant get opera 9 to even connect to the internet. all the other apps removed are great, but those have to be the two biggest. all the things taken out can be easily added back in and arent really needed to be built into the rom for speed and stability of the app. just my opinion and if it doesnt matter, fine with me :)

ok, i take the opera 9 part back. re-enabled the proxy and it works fine. dont know why you need the proxy to use opera 9. anyways, keep it in, the scroll is soo much smoother. now, is there anyway to make it the default browser? thanks

Is anyone else having the bottom of the SIP keyboard cut off? I have changed SIPs a couple times, and the keyboard continues to be cut off at the level of the bottom bar.

Mark - super ROM for speed and stability, and I appreciate the business edition!

You must have had the lucky flash or something. I always remove my sd card and do a hard reset (even though technically that's done automagically with the newer ROMs) but it didn't work for me. I'm reflashing now to see if it makes a difference but I'm not holding out much hope if it's not even working for Shogunmark..

Did you really revert back to 6.0? (like sig says)

I'm lovin' the lite rom Shogun. Just a few issues.. The camera, as other people have stated, isn't working for some reason. Maybe something similar to the wifi issue, but with the camera? Also, I can't bet my touchpal sip to work. For the lite version it'd be nice if you could leave out the bigger programs like opera 9 and such. Anyways..very fast besides these issues, extremely responsive.

Did you really revert back to 6.0? (like sig says)

I absolutely did. After 7 months of stock ROM I decided to make the journey into cooked ROMs in my attempt to get an updated Radio in hopes of getting a better signal at home.

I chose Dutty's Hybrid 6.1, and while it generally worked, internet access was misconfigured, and nothing could unconfigure it. For some reason, internet was ok, email was a no-go, and it would not substitute WiFi for the no-go. MyISP was setup as isp.cingulair (which is a very old protocol, being phased out), and no matter what I tried, I could not get the internet reconfigured. I tried different Radio's (from the AllTheWay list of compatible radios), but this was plain and simple a ROM issue ... ironically one which existed AFTER saying "Yes" to "I see you are on AT&T ... shall I install the AT&T communication settings" prompt!!!!

Since the ability to check my email (and to use the WiFi in lieu of the bad signal at home) is vital, I gave up, went to the HTC site, and redownloaded the very old AT&T stock ROM. Needless to say, everything is working again just fine (except I am still stuck with the old radio).

A cooked ROM is only 'everything' to the cooker, and the remainder of us have to put up with their choices (such as a heavily overloaded ROM which leaves virtually no storage space on the main device), but basic functionality is necessary. That is why I am looking at the Death ROM since it is based on the AT&T Tilt. I anticipate that everything that did not work for me with Dutty's Hybrid will be right with the Death series; and the creation of the lite version solves the 'no space due to overload' which is clearly present in the non-lite version. (Yikes!)

So my hopes ride high for the Death ROM! I am anxiously looking forward to the resported issues being resolved and for the ROM to leave beta, so that I can try again to leave the stock ROM.

By the way - for those who have flashed this ROM - does the Death ROM take care of the PTT issue (e.g., disable it and remap the buttons)?

drbowden
18th June 2008, 07:40 PM
S2U2 v1.05 is not working properly on this ROM for me. Together with the keyboard problem, I am going to go back to the full 4.1 (which worked well for me; just had many things I did not use).

I'll keep an eye on the thread and hopefully can reflash a later "Business Edition"!

Thanks again for your hard work, ShogunMark!

Bill

Bill - unless I misread, that cab collection is to reapply the AT&T PTT function (which is a ludicrous thought, since every time you hit that button you get a message that if you hit it again they will charge you $9.95 per month).

I just never got my head around those who manage to flash 5x a day. There are SO many things which need to be redone by hand including:

1) Disabling PTT and adding the registry entries to enable the buttons
2) Re-setting any AT&T connectivity settings if the cooker didn't do it right
3) Re-setting the email settings (the thread which discusses how to set up a CAB for that is somewhat convoluted)
4) Re-setting your wifi settings (which CAN be done by CAB)
5) Re-setting Owner information (which must be done before installation of any apps)
6) Unbacking up any PIM information
7) Reinstalling your apps (Sashimi should take care of this)

I am very interested in Sashimi as far as APP reinstallation, but most of the above still has to be done by hand. This is why I have never really gotten into the flashing game on the phone.

5) . . . Re-setting Owner information (which must be done before installation of any apps)
6) Unbacking up any PIM information
7) Reinstalling your apps (Sashimi should take care of this) . . .

Owner information can easily be reinstalled by exporting HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Owner and then importing it in after ROM flash, using the registry editor you exported it with. I use this method for resetting a lot of values, like my area code, my settings and registration for Resco Explorer, my default Ring behaviour, my TouchPanel sensitivity, etc.

Spb Backup 2.0 can now do a complete reinstall of all apps even with a new ROM or on a new machine entirely, so you might check that out also

I went to the site and it does, in fact, claim to be able to restore on a new ROM. While I don't doubt it, I cannot get my head around how this is even possible. Registry entries may change in the new ROM!

Some feedback for the rom.

S2U2 v1.04 and 1.05 when ran causes black screen. I tried to edit the registry setting for v1.04 to disable directdraw but still the same problem happened.

With PCMKeyboard, in certain apps (sorry can remember), the bottom row of the keyboard is hidden.

Yeah, it does it - I did it when I first installed Death v4 - seemed to be OK - Start Menu was not updated, and PIE+ was not functioning when I fired up IE - those are the only 2 things I noticed - but I decided I would hard reset and install by hand just to try to have the leanest setup I could. Certainly just for restoring your personal data it does a fine job, but it could do that in earlier versions even on a new ROM.

I let Spb Backup 2.0 run for about 30 mins while attempting a full backup. It just freezes on all versions of death so far. Haven't tried it on lite yet though. I got the cab direct from their website. Should I wait longer to see if any progress?

Other versions will follow.. Its easier to start with a PTT version since its already in the rom, no sense in removing it just to cook it back in, not to mention the dialer issues... PTT is a Pain In the A$$

The SIPs on the new Death BE (no PTT) seems to be shifted downward so that the bottom does not fully display. In fact, all of the SIPs seem to have a title bar on them. They can even be moved around on the screen. This is happenning to me in both portrait and landscape. Anyone else see this issue, or is it just me?

Otherwise, this ROM seems perfect.

I am also having the same issue. It actually pushes the text below the tittle bar in a threaded conversation. I was ready to hard reset but if others are having the issue also I will hold off for a comment from Shogun or a fix. Thank you for this rom and the sip fix.....I didn't even know you could make the sip do that.

my problem was:
1) I had installed touchpal so the whole keyboard showed up(didn't have the half-a-keyboard issue). However, lets say I'm editing a contact or typing an sms message, when I bring up the sip the window wouldn't re-size! So I would have to type then bring down the sip to see whats there, it was a bit annoying. So thank you for the fix. I'm running the BE version

2) my dialer showed up all white, no buttons nothing, when a received a call, it was still all white. So I install a new dialer, the DxC iphone dialer and all was fixed, so no issues here.

love the inclusion of opera9.....every OS should come with a really good web browser

I have an issue. (It has repeated the behavior after two Hard Resets.) I flashed the rom & hard reset & let it auto customize. Everything worked good. Then I disabled HTC Home from the Today Screen and all of a sudden I get a "Cannot connect with current connection settings" error when I attempt to connect to the internet.

It is resolved if I do a Hard Reset (I can connect to the internet just fine), but as soon as I disable HTC Home from the Today Screen, the internet stops working. Re-enabling HTC Home does not seem to fix it either.

Odd? Can anyone reproduce this?

funny thing happened, I flashed this rom this morning, all was working well aside from the sip and dialer issues. I've had it tethered most of this evening, now here comes the "new" issue: after I un-tethered from my laptop, and then tried to get online with Opera9, it tells me I can't connect and my soft keys stop working.....the windows, explorer, mail, "ok", and the two soft keys above mail and explorer buttons stopped working . No matter how much soft reset I did, still same result.
I disabled proxy and internet now works, but the buttons are still gone, only the "red", "green" and power buttons are alive.

sigh.........going to re-flash

Actually no. While I do have the problem you have described, I have seen that in other roms and is no big deal. This problem is when the screen is off and it flickers on and off (with just a white screen). Doesnt do it all the time, and it does it a lot less with this version. Shogun said it was an ATT baserom issue.

It was a bug in earlier builds but according to the release notes for the base rom that he built this on, it is supposed to be fixed. I haven't seen this yet--I do have the off and on problem but not the flickering.

I just go ahead and press the power button twice (presspress, without stopping) and it comes on fine for me, don't press wait then press again, just presspress, works everytime.

Before you all tell me to enable this in advanced config--it shows enabled but is not available. This was an issue not present in the other death builds but present in every stock ATT build since 6.0...Anyone have a work around?

UPDATE: I used bandswitch to work around this. But this is a bug that should be fixed....

phonesettings.dll needs to be replaced on at&t based roms in order to make the band tab available. Sometimes the chef will include this fix.

I use the attached cab. I also attached a phonesettings.dll that includes the band tab.

OK. So what part of "not searching for an answer, so don't flame if they have been mentioned." did you not understand? This is me being rude. I was simply stating that I didn't want some pillock giving me an answer to a question I DIDN'T ASK.

and really it doesn't matter if you release what you find publicly or not, at least you'd be giving back to the community when you give to the chefs in which case it will somehow trickle right back down the little guy.

change your radio to a compatible radio, this rom doesn't come with a radio

the 1.65.xx.xx radios are and the neon radio that AllTheWay released are compatible. I'm using the neon radio1.58.25.17 and all is well.

Actually all of the above can be automated with SASHIMI.
#1 is just a reg import
#3-#4 are provisioning XMLs
#5 reg import (and built in with next upcoming version)
#6 - technically this is the only one that SASHIMI doesn't do natively, but PIM backup will take care of it in a flash
#7 - as stated

:)

Reading this thread (with GREAT interest, I might add) its kinda tough to figure out what are bugs in the ROM which haven't yet been fixed, and what were problems isolated to certain users using bad Radios, old HardSPL's, incorrect comm settings for their locale, or not Hard Resetting after the flash.

From what I can see, there's a bug in the camera, a bug in the dialer, and a virtually necessary registry patch to be added if the default "movable sip" is causing such heartache; but that this is it.

My fingers are crossed for the next release ... thanks for the hard work!

Hmmmm - so you are saying there are workarounds, which is good news. If the ROM is ever redone it sounds like shogunmark might want to consider hard coding the registry to non-movable, and letting people do a regedit if they want it to move (and therefore start up partially hidden every single time).

I may just give this a whirl combined with Radio 1.65.20.29.

I had no problems with the camera, it worked right out the box. the only things I had problems with was:
1) dialer
[fixed: by installing another dialer, which I was going to do anyways]
2) unable to connect to internet
[fixed: by disabled the proxy in programs>tools>proxy manager
3)hardware buttons/soft keys mysteriously stopped working which they were working fine before. then no matter how much SR I did wouldn't solve it.
[fixed: mysteriously after I disabled proxy and soft reset hardware/soft keys seem to come back alive.
right now all is well and I'm really into this rom.
4) movable sip, 1 reg edit fixed it.

Only one of those issues is even going to get fixed, and that would be the dialer. The soft keys seems to be an problems specific to that user, the keyboard is that way on purpose and people can change it easily if they don't like it, the internet works fine on mine. I'll admit that i don't know what the issue with the dialer is since i use the dcx dialer cause i like the bigger keys and i've only managed to freeze it up when i was doing it on purpose :D Other than the stupid backlight issues that are a gift from the base roms, everything works great on my end. :)

I hear you on the PTT, i guess i never have seen the value in it. I know the reason he did it though was cause it doesn't work right if you try adding it back in, so he made a build with it in for those people who are requesting it cause it's easier to just make it before ripping it out, than to try to add it back in.

As for what will be fixed, who knows. Shogunmark has shown himself to be responsive. From all of the reported problems with his having cooked so many applications into his main ROM so that there is no room for anything, he created the light version. He could have just started removing some of the programs and been done with it, but he elected to forge ahead with a new version --- which is quite admirable.

THEN he created a version with the g-d awful PTT function reenabled. How is that for catering to the minority! Again, admirable.

With this, perhaps he will infer from the postings that the default of 'movable' was probably not the optimal choice, since the consequence (having to drag your keyboard 100% of the time before you can use it) is a fairly taxing one. It would seem that setting it as immovable, and making the registry key public for those that want to bring this on themselves, is probably more in line with his desire to make the ROM as usable as possible. He's a good guy.

Oh ... and I found a link to the dialer

With many of the newer roms (including this one) I am noticing an issue related to screen pressure threshold. It always ends up at 400 (maxed out from the calibration that occurs at setup) I posted a question in L26's Diamond Rom thread that got ignored:

As I mentioned in the post, with older roms this pressure threshold usually ended up just under 200. And, it only seems to adversley affect PIE (which makes the bug sort of uninteresting to most).

Have you tried any other roms since this started happening? Just to confirm that it is in fact only on this rom that you're having the issue?

I had the problem too. I did

Start>Settings>Connections>Connections

Click on Advanced tab.

Select Networks. The top one I put on "My ISP". Bottom I left alone (it says "My Work Network", if you care).

Then I ran Start>Programs>Tools>Proxy Manager>Disable Proxy.

Then I could always connect using PIE, Opera, and Opera mini.

Edit: Oh, and I'm in Dallas/Fort Worth area.

I too have an AT&T Tilt on an AT&T network and ran in to the same problem today. I had previously connected fine, ran TomTom7 with my free downloaded map and it immediately connected to the internet. Then after closing TomTom7 (I think I'll stick with Garmin XT) I no longet had HTTP access. I could still connect to the internet just fine. ActiveSync worked fine. Live Search worked fine. HTC Weather worked fine. IE & Opera no connect.

I tried disabling the proxy in the Connection Proxy Server settings. No go. It wasn't until I got home that I found out where the Enable/Disable Proxy Server cab were located (I looked and must have been blind to miss them originally). To get internet access working, I first had to restore the original AT&T settings for the proxy server, enable proxy cab, then disable proxy cab.

All is working once more.

I am thinking about jumping from the L26 ROM to this; L26 is too buggy with Bluetooth (Audio sometimes gets hosed after I make a call) and it causes Windows Media to crash after a BT phone call.

Can anyone share if this ROM has the same issues?

Push To Talk.

When you want to phone your mate, you have to walk up to them and shove before your phone is willing to dial.

the draggable SIP was intentional! You can change this with a reg editor.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sip]
change value DragStyle to 0

OK, this fixes the chopped off SIP - but if one wanted draggable SIP, it is not usable as is, because of the missing last row. There is a blank blue bar at the top instead.

Thanks Shogunmark. It was the radio, I had an older Niki radio. When I updated to 1.65.20.29, everything was fine.

Great ROM!

One item that is clearly (for me anyway) missing is a registry editor on the phone. I have one on my desktop that connects and works OK, but really miss the convience of doing local registry edits.

Anyone have the cab from the full version that can be installed on the Lite version?

Total Commander is included, and it has a registry editor.

Open Total Commander.
Goto the root directory.
Goto \\Plugins
Goto registry.

It threw me off at first, because it is the registry in a "Folder" format, but it works.

This task manager has a more traditional looking registry editor. I use it also.

+1, Had the same exact scenario happen to me. Was pulling my hair out and just about to hard reset when I saw our post. Had forgotten about the restore cab. Thanks for posting your solution.

Just thought i'd throw this out there, How do I change the date on the today screen to appear in different format? The old method by changing reg. values HKLM/nls/overides appears to be different. Thanks

All is working once more.

I also was getting the message "can't connect - check your settings" and could not figure out why, as I had configured MEdiaNet, WAP and ISP the same as I always do - but I did the above and now I'm connecting fine.

But why is this occuring? I am concerned that there is something missing or conflicting that may rear its ugly head again . . .

I just use the Regional Settings applet in Control Panel System.

As for the registry applets, thanks a lot.

For those getting the 'cant connect' error (which will effectively keep me from flashing this ROM), does this problem come back each time you re-run TomTom?

has anyone tried using any other versions of tcpmp on this rom besides the reworked tcpmp with builtin flv support? just seeing if anyone can get the others to run? the rehashed version wont work properly with mp3 plugin and the sound is horrible without it.

I am really having trouble with this too - finally got TCPMP2008 to install (other versions wouldn't even install!), and I can configure it, but it won't ever start up when I click on a YouTube video, because RealPlayer opens automatically, even though it can't play these videos ("Media File type not supported") and then shuts down. Since RealPlayer is cooked in, I can't delete it. RealPlayer is a hog. If I had my druthers, I'd ditch it - its only use for me has been to play Cingular Video. I'd rather have TCPMP working.

Anyone know how to disable RealPlayer?

real player was already in the rom, and if you the version of tcpmp you installed does its job it should overwrite the reg keys that set the file extensions for the files that play in realplayer... can you link me to the cab you are trying to install and what are the file extensions are you trying to play?

Couldn't tell you as I dumped TomTom7. I only loaded it to see if I preferred it to Garmin XT, but I don't. Garmin XT is much better as far as I'm concerned. And it has the same interface and maps as all my othr Garmin GPS.

someone mentioned something earlier about running the enable proxy first, then run the disable proxy. Try this and see if you still have the same issues!
