I got that impression from selspiero's post. Just didn't want him getting his hopes up. :)
yeah - had this impression when i got off the phone, after thinking about it for a while though you are right - i will only get a call back if the person i spoke to is around - its fine that there is a 'note' on my accout, but this isnt going to do anything!
It is a shame Orange has such bad signal around my area otherwise i would be tempted!!
how many do you think limited stock is?

hopefully my orange one should be arriving some point tomorrow.
my only real concern is the data usage.
but i have setup spb monitor on my touch dual to run that for a bit see what my general use comes in at. then take it from there.
as i mentioned before if i like the phone but start to think the data is not enough then i will lok at waiting for t-mob.
just posted this where i went to xda on my phone then did a search for this thread and joined and it is quoted as using 362KB if thats only loading 4 pages i dont think the 500mb limit will be enough....

I have no idea of my data useage. I have exchange push mail on 'as items arrive' all day, plus i spend quite a bit of time browsing on the train...
What broswer do you use on your dual? i installed opera the other day on mine, but it si very slow...

i have push email from my exchange server running and i have it set to download as it arrives downloading the first 2KB and download the last 3 days.
i'm using a touch dual hacked version of the opera 9.5 1184 is memory serves me right.
so thast 4 proper web pages as opera mobile grabs it and resizes it. and it came in at just over 362KB, ok the addtion of wifi should cut back on this usage a little but at the moment that seems like a big chunk of thr 500mb for only 4 pages
anyone else spoken to them today see what the latest is?

just loaded football365.com and the useage jumped to 1.4MB so almost 1mb to load a page.
so 500 pages possibly, thats not including push emails or anything else. i dont think the orange limit is going to suit me.

You've hit the nail on the head there. Usually the launch day allocation is 50-100 units, and despite what's posted earlier in this thread handsets are always released on upgrade first - new connections such as on the website will be a few days behind.
I should be notified as soon as the stock is released, so I'll do my best to stop by here when that happens.

i am using spb monitor, to monitor my data usage.
t-mob have never even commented on my data usage thats a major reason to stay with them, as it looks liek my data usage is alot more then i thought it was. i thought the 500mb from oraneg would be enough but its looking more and more like the data package is a keeper :)

to be fair if you are calling upgrades they "might" give you call back as its sale, but if like me you have spoken to retetions. there is slime to no chance of getting a callback!.
as they aren't going to call you back to remind you that you was thinking about leaving!
as when you left the phone convosation with them, you left still having a contract in place so there job was done. you stayed due to the promise of the handset being released.
its still your choice to stay on that premise that it is due for release soon. or to jump ship to another provider that is offering the phone.
OK!
15th July 2008, 01:43 PM
You're wrong I'm afraid mattie, these places work on conversion rates rather than cancellation rates. So you cancelling makes no difference to not upgrading - I've been called back by retentions a few times in the past when waiting for a phone - it simply depends how busy they are, they're often not allowed to offer callbacks.

t-mob now just told me it will be released in sept!!!
why cant they just give it a release date. they keep pulling the same old crap about giving it proper testing and they why it is taking so long. to the point of well we give it to a 3year old to see if they can break it.!!!
i mean ffs its a touch screen all you need is a jam sandwich to **** it up.
they totally dodged the fact its been released in germany for 2 weeks.
i do believe what others have posted that they are trying to get rid of the compact3's first

Seriously, can't believe t-mobile are now saying September, it's already out on Orange ffs
They've got them in my local phones4u store, with the tariff I'm looking for. If the data bundles on Orange weren't so poor I'd have switched already, but £5 for 250mb ... come on, I pay £7.50 for 1gb with w&w

calling now
EDIT: YAHOOOOOO i ordered it :)
I asked if it was in stock, he was like no sorry, so i said a friend of myn had been called by Tmob, he said it could just be another company pretending to be Tmob but i asked himt o check anyway, he checked and said its not officially in stock because they MANUALLY check every single phone to check it turns on and works and they wont be officially in stock till tomorrow.
Anyway, i'm on Flext25 12month web'n'walk for £32.50 a month and i got the phone for £20 with £6.99 delivery which comes to £417 over 12 months, almost the same as SimFree - EXCELLENT!
Annoyingly im on holiday so wont be able to get it till monday

OK, finally I managed to order 3 that are being delivered tomorrow.
Check out www.coolsmartphone.com They finally confirmed and gave the game away that these are in.
I called spoke to a guy and told him a friend had ordered his for delivery tomorrow. He went away for 5 minutes (probably checking with someone if it was ok to sell me 3) and then came back and said sorry they're still not available, so I asked for our PAC codes.
2 minutes later he called me back and said "oh sorry, they are not on the main system, but showing on a different part of the system and they have 171 in stock.
Funny that how when I threatened to leave they suddenly appeared!
And this is after, as a business customer, my T-Mobile Business Manager was still telling me August up until yesterday.
They really need to get their act togther and not treat us like mugs!

Wooohooo nice catch
Have just ordered my upgrade and it will be here by 1pm tomorrow. Only 107 left in stock ... how nervous was i when he was taking his time going through the upgrade process
*under breath* come on ... come on
Phone for free, £27.50 per month including wnw, so £5 per month more than I'm on now, but it would cost £200 for phone if I stayed on that tariff.
How happy am I that I didn't switch to Orange when I was in phones4u earlier today :D

Mine is coming tomorrow too. I phoned TM 45 minutes ago to be told it wasn't in stock and the delivery date was still unconfirmed. Checked here, saw the story was slightly different, so called again and got my order in. The guy said there was around 90 units left and they were going VERY fast (probably to impatient Xda Devlopers........). Roll on tomorrow morning.......

Just had a call from T-mobile to say Compact IV was in so it's being delivered to me tomorrow before 1pm - only trouble is I've been looking at the pictures of it today and a colleague has the Diamond from Orange so have had a play with it and I don't think the Compact IV looks anywhere near as nice :(
Oh well will wait and see what it's like when it gets here tomorrow, might not be as bad as the pictures make out, I certainly hope not cos T-mobile are offering the best package from my point of view. Free on Combi 15 with w n w = £22:50 on 18 month contract, so £405 all in :)

Well tmobile is very generous over here. I'm on a 1 year contract for the second year now. Last time i was able to extent another year against the lowest montly rate possible and get the compact III for 60 euro. Now I'm able to extend again same story, compact IV for only 60 euro against 10 euro a month yearly contract.
Case you are wondering why I got such a low price-plan. I can deside to change contract or take a new contract since it's only 10 euro a month. And the contract is flexible, meaning the more I call/sms the less I pay a minute/sms calculated from the beginning of the month. Awsome deal.
Still I'm in doubt:
- compact IV (diamond)
- Vario IV (diamond pro)
- iphone
sucks no one knows when the varioIV comes along, we do know it's comming and that the diamond pro is comming beginning of august.

Hi,
I am also on the £15 + £7.50 wnw (Flext 20) and I got the phone for £120 and got to keep the same contract. Should get about £100 for my old Compact, so quite happy with that deal. I never go over my allowance so I am a low user.

The Vario IV is due September, at least on TMUK. I have another upgrade due then so I'll probably pick one up and sell on the Compact. I have to admit I really like the front of the Compact IV, with the silver trim, but not the back! It looks pretty dull like all of their MDA offerings. The proof is in the pudding!

If someone got any questions left: I already have the TMO version, mda compact iv that is, from TMO Germany. Mine was Sim-unlocked already and I also flashed another ROM, so I'm not able to answer anything regarding the fugly magenta tmo-rom. But anything else. Just FYI.
I also already sent an Email to Brodit, because they only have a holder for the original HTC version. They couldn't tell me if this holder also fits the MDAcIV, though. Maybe this is interesting for some of you guys...

I called earlier and got the a Compact IV for free, but they wouldn't give me the deal you have? I asked him about the loyalty and getting 25% off, he said there is no such thing! I was on a Flext35 with no w&w and paying £35/month. I have gone way pass my original 12month contract.
After some haggling they gave me the Flext30 £30/month with 6 months free w&w on a 18month deal, with a free phone. After 6months i need to pay the £7.50 for the w&w. Even as i asked for my PAC code they wouldn't budge and told me i've got the best deal.

I was referring to the way they have changed the casing, when I originally saw the Diamond months back I loved the sleek black looks and the facetted back and from the pics I've seen of the Compact IV they have ignored all HTC's hard work in styling their phone and turned it into a bland silver grey rounded blob! :(
Like I say I hope I'm wrong when it gets here and it actually looks smooth and sleek instead but it looks doubtful from what I've seen :(
If I do keep it I will of course be flashing it with a different ROM at the first available opportunity to rid it of that garish white and pink T-mobile branding :D

You wont be getting a Diamond, its an MDA Compact IV and it has none of the Diamond styling, see pic above. You could also call the diamond a blank black rounded blob, you could also call it a useless almagamation of atoms, that's opinion though.

Either you're missing the point or I haven't made myself clear, I will be getting a Diamond it will just be dressed up in a different casing which T-mobile have come up with in an effort to rebrand something to make it look like one of their own, underneath however it is a Diamond.
As you say it is opinion and my opinion is T-mobile have made a great looking product look ordinary, I was under the impression I was entitled to my opinion

Its not a Diamond though, its a Victor, it's not like with other phones where it's the original phone which just a little branding. This time they actually designed the phone with HTC, the casings totally different and its 12g lighter IIRC

Grrr,
Just my luck I noticed that T-mobile were selling the MDA Compact IV at 9:55 pm! They closed before I got the chance to speak to them.
Anyway I am on the Flext 25 (12 Month) +WnW this adds up to £32.50. On top of this I receive a 50% FnF discount on my line rental so I actually only pay £16.25.
I’m going to be calling tomorrow morning, what sort of deal do you think I can expect to get?

Hi,
I bought one in Germany
ROM: 1.37.111.3 GER
From: 06/20/08
Radio: 1.00.25.03
And I don't think it's ugly.:)
It's a MDA, not a diamond!
The MDA Compact has no Low Battery Alert, is it normal?
I already added it with SKTools.

If anyone is interested in getting the Diamond on Orange just thought I would post this link to a good deal they are doing at Phones 4 U, if you don't mind sending in your bills that is as it's a cashback by redemption offer.
Basically it's Orange Dolphin £35 on 18month contract with 11 months half price line rental via the cashback, so works out at £437.50 over the 18 months and you get unlimited internet :)

Mine arrived at 8AM. :) Very happy, although I think I will be flashing it as the pink ROM is hardcoded - no alternative.
Unlucky for those of you who didn't get the delivery, RM can be a pain. :(
No Windows Live as with all MDA's (and locked like every single T-Mob phone), WiFi is there which is nice although expected. The back could be prettier but I was pleasantly surprised - I thought it had some silver on the front but I was plain wrong, need an eye test I think. I couldn't get any GPS signal indoors at work or at home - not sure what's up there.
They were in stock at T-Mob until about 10AM, I'm told there's very limited stock until August. Hopefully will be proved wrong.
For those of you who have suffered from RM returning the phone to T-Mob, I'm pretty sure they won't be redelivering it to you after 2 days... It just goes back into the stockpile, I think you'll have to reorder. Again, hope I'm wrong on that one though.

All done last night. black theme looks so much better and seems less laggy, although i might just be happy to be rid of the pink
i can't remember what programs were already pre-loaded on the program screen, so not sure what i may need to load back on, but i've now got the diamond versions instead, so you tube app etc.
Also, the internet browser defaults to a htc search screen rather than the t-mob favourites so that's better too imho.
Just watch out for the internet settings in the rom as the t-mob ones don't quite work. just need to make minor changes (user name, password and proxy). did that and it worked fine. got all the instructions, files and answers by searching within the forum so another success for xda-dev :D
on a side note, i get the feeling the battery will be an issue in the longer term. it seems to get rather hot when used for any length of time and i'm noticing the power meter drop under use. then again, the battery is half the physical size of my trinity so hardly surprising.

Got the phone today, very nice, ordered yesterday, highly impressed.
Thinking of flashing it; would that screw up the co-pilot trial & the deal they have with free traffic thru t-mobile do you think?

Hi Guys,
I went today to the T-mobile HQ store in The Hague (Netherlands) and they just got the MDA Compact IV in.
I am currently upgrading from MDA Compact III (P3300) to the MDA Compact IV (P3700)
All I can say is WOW.
T-mobile hasn't slimmed down on anything. You get the following thing in the box:
1x Bluetooth headset for free
1x MDA Compact IV
extra stylus
Battery (900 mAH, 3.7 volts)
Carrying pouch (in grey)
Earphone that also works as FM-radio antenna.
1x CD with both Activesync 4.5 for XP and Vista. It also contains Spritebackup software. I dont know of it is a demo of the full version of it. I have to find out first.
Anyways, tonight after my social life duties, I will post some pics.
I'm happy..... Now it's time to unlock the baby and install some custom roms on it (It's on my own risk).

i don't have co-pilot after flashing with diamond rom as i think the tie up is a t-mob thing rather than htc. that said, i expect before long someone will pull apart the various roms so you can pick and choose whichever program cabs you want to install from htc and the various operators.

OK!

There is a problem within windows while trying to sync with more than 1 pc.
It seems you only can have 1 sync partnership.
Got the same problem and this was the answer i found.
I hope for an update soon
Didn't get a bluetooth headset with mine. :(
Ah, thanks for the info. Strangely, I can sync my Vario III with both my laptop and PC - I did need to edit some settings on the laptop to get it going though.
Plus I tried to sync Diamond with laptop first, which didn't work, and then moved to PC. Might be another issue?
My TouchFLO does seem quite smooth, not sure why others are not happy? I may try a HTC ROM, but I've never done it before. Battery also gets VERY hot, quite disappointed with that. Battery runs down pretty fast also, HSDPA seems to be the main drain. I quite like the pink though!
It is under 100g also!
T-Mob had 150 more of these today. And will have more in tomorrow. I believe they have ordered extra to try and meet the demand.
With my Vario III sat next to mine on the table, it looks like my HD TV next to my old tube set! Crazy how in an instant I see my (previously) beloved phone in a whole new way!
Oh and yes, Opera is present. :)

Hullo team,
Has anyone able to identify the difference between these two phone as phone keys are swapped in MDA compact IV so how the diamond rom can understand the swapped keys of MDA ?.In diamond phone keys are downwards and and in MDA they are upward side. Please be careful to note this

good morning guys.
Thought i'd just write up what i have done on my MDA, as this thread has been very useful to me (i wouldnt have even known it was out unless i had looked here!)
Ihave flashed the ROM on mine to the Diamond project rom. It was very siomple to do, just make sure you use the Hard SPL from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=408621
(I used the 1.23 version)
Don't use the HARD-SPL OLIN, as it doesnt work. (well it didnt for me, just sat at the 0% then timed out)
I then was able to flash the project ROM, took me about 15 minutes to complete
The difference is AMAZING. The speed of the phone is increased 100%, looks much better (no pink  ) and it includes the youtube and MSN applications. Also gets rid of the Opera branding.
I found that just installing the manilla.cab made it even slower.
I really recomend everyone does this, in its original state, the MDA is far to slow, and you wont get the most out of it
RE: the position of the buttons, this ROM doesnt seem to care.
Any questions about flashing the ROM, please let me know

Can someone explain in laymans terms as to what I need to do.

i would suggest searching as you may find the installation files you need. or try installing the version you mentioned. you can always uninstall if it doesn't work and you've not lost anything.

Hi, i'm with t-mobile and my contract was up for renew a few months ago. i'm on the old Flex35, paying £35/month with no w&w. After some haggling moved to flex30, £30/month gave the Compact IV for free. Also free w&w for 6months. I need to pay the £7.50/month after that. I tried to get more and even asked for my PAC code, that was their final offer. I got a call from them around 1pm today saying there were back in stock, should get mine tomorrow! He mentioned they had 1000units after 25mins down to 400.

When I switch to GSM, reception is generally ok, but once on 3G It's never more than 2 bars, when normally I get 4-5 (N95-8GB).
Ive found I have 1-2 bars and once I try to connect through HSDPA reception goes to 0 bars!?

Within the HardSPL folder is a .bat file called diamond-sspl.bat - run that and follow the instructions (basically just keep hitting enter)
once that has completed, you can flash the new ROM by running the DiamonCustomRUU.exe found in the ROM you downloaded

I've had my MDA for a few days and didn't waste any time to trash the default t-mobile scheme. Had no problem applying the latest Duttys Diamond ROM (after apply HardSPL 1.40).
