Thanks for the replies!
Hmmm, the convert program seems to work ok but the output .mng has lost its transparency. The original .png files are unchanged, so why does it put a white background for each frame in the .mng file?
Edit: I tried putting the larger .wpa file (with the unwanted white background) in the weatherpanel\icons\large folder and it still doesn't play in weather panel. Do I need to modify the .wpl file?
Weird...if you want to post one of your PNG sets I can try imagemagick on it to. You shouldn't have to do anything to the MNG file other than rename the extension to .wpl.

Attached are the resized .png files I used.
I did use imagemagick to convert them to a .mng file but when I play back the .mng file there is a white background. Even still, when I rename the file to .wpa, weather panel will not display any image.
Btw the image I chose is 34. To extract the .png files I opened 34.wpa from the root /Manila WP Icons/ folder, NOT from the /small/ folder. Then I resized each of the outputted images to 480x400, then resized the canvas to 480x480 for them all. (thank god for batch jobs!)
For what it's worth, when I used MNG Construction Set (shareware), it appears to leave the background transparent.
Thanks for your help!
EDIT:
Actually my mistake... Using imagemagick does NOT insert a white background. My mng player had a white background DUH :P
Nevertheless I still cannot get the 480x480 .wpa files to play in weatherpanel...

Are you using the Touchflo 3D theme in Throttle Launcher? If so you need to go to the Weather Tab in the Setup Config for Throttle and choose Weather Panel as your plug in and configure it from the resulting tab in Throttle. Follow Rumball's instructions to a tee and you will get it.
thanks a lot man. got it working perfectly
and thank Rumball for a great program

I just re-read this... Do you mean that the .mng files have to renamed .wpl when placed in the LARGE folder? In the SMALL folder they are all .wpa...
Sorry for all the questions :)

Oops...no, you're correct. The file extension should be .wpa

That's correct, weather panel is a today plugin only. From your screenshots it looks like you have it installed correctly and you just need to connect your device to the internet to allow it to download the weather information. On your first screen shot click on the icon in the top right to perform the download. Also, on the connections tab in the weatherpanel settings menu make sure you have it set up to connect and perform updates automatically.

Tahnk you Rumball,
i was sure that even if there is not connection data ,the layout will appear a minimum (i dont know if i am clear) ..
when i search for my city,WP connect to server and find my city,it means that connection works,no?
anyway, i will try another way ..

I really like the 5 day display, but it takes up too much of the screen. Would it be possible to create a smaller 5 day display, like the 5 day display in the PhatFinger theme?
BTW - I'm using this as a Today plug-in, not as as full-screen weather tab in touchflo like the screen shots show. I have an Omnia, not an HTC.
For reference, here is the PhatFinger 5 day display on my Today screen.
http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh116/cmcfalls/WeatherPhatFinger.jpg
Isn't there anything for this theme between 1 line and the large 5 day forecast? I'm really just looking for the PhatFinger Today display with the Diamond animated icons that then goes to the Diamond theme when clicked.

If you post the theme you show here (I just need the WPL file) then I can modify it to use the Diamond WP animations and layouts.

I've tried this out and there's a bit of bad news for the VGA users....it doesn't look like weatherpanel will support 480 wide animations. When I convert the frames to an MNG animation I get the same result as you: no image. I then iteratively reduced the size of each frame by 10% and regenerated the MNG animation file. The animations wouldn't start to display in weatherpanel until I droped the frame size down to 348x348. So it looks like there are limitations in WP. You can probably get the animations working with a slightly higher resolution since, as I said, I only tried in increments of 10%.
Oh ya...to make things easier for you...again imagemagick is highly recommended. You can resize all your images at once by simply using the mogrify command. For example; "mogrify -resize 50% *.png" will scale all your png files by 50%

EDIT: Sorry, did not see your reply. I will experiment with the 348x348 resolution and see if that is big enough. Still would love to see proper .png frames in 348x348 but thanks for your help bro!! :)

Rumball - the forum won't let me upload a wpl file. Any suggestions?
It is Phat+114 from the PhatFingers theme (theme is here (http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=50992)).

ive even tried the ones that came in there and got nothing... if it matters,im on stock sprint TP, but i dont thats where my prob lies, since evrything else works perfectly
thanks in advance, anyone..
To assign radar images to a city go into the WP setup menu. In the "Cities" tab select your city and then click "Edit". Now click "Weather Images" and add the images that you want via the "Add New" button. This will allow you to select images from your radar.txt file. After you've set up your images you'll need to perform an update in order for WP to connect and download the images. After this you should start seeing your images.
I should also point out that I checked out your added images and they don't seem to be the correct URL. When I copy and paste them into internet explorer I get an error.

Here you go cmcfalls. Unzip and copy the two files into my weatherpanel theme folder and then select the new Manila-5day-short layout. I have fixed a few layout bugs in the omnia detailed forecast page...but haven't figure out yet why the temps aren't displaying.

Thanks Rumball! Looks great. And no rush on the temperature thing...it's a minor thing that is really overshadowed by the robust beauty of WP.

Could you have a look at my radars.txt file if you have time? The CTV camera link that has always worked, stopped working, no matter where I put it in order. The link works on the internet but not in the program. Can you see something I am missing, or is there somewhere else I should be looking? It is an ANSI file, but should it be Unicode? or UTF-8? All the others work the way they are and I could display 8 before no problem.
Thanx in advance.

Looks fine to me. The only thing I'd recommend trying is go into your WeatherPanel config and re-setup and re-associate the CTV image with one of your cities. So try unselecting it, exiting WeatherPanel config, go back in and re-enable it.

Can you assign any program to the "sun" icon? If so I recommend using Secondtoday. I use it to view weatherpanel, it's basically an additional "today" screen where you can put any number of today screen plugins. It works fantastic for viewing weatherpanel full-screen.

There are currently no large animated icons in VGA (maybe soon). So your options are to either use the static VGA icons or you can continue using the QVGA large animations and edit your manila-5day.wpl file to centre the animation on your VGA screen.

Hey man, you should try Throttle Launcher as a Today Screen replacement. I use it on my HTC Touch. You can use Weather Panel full screen from the Sun logo and much much more. You would totally dig the easy customization of it. Here's a link to the latest version.

So I took a stab at creating some VGA animations and as Rumball can confirm, they are a BITCH to make! It took me a about night to make each of the 4 more simple animations. I learned a few things discouraging things about weatherpanel when I made them which do not bode well for a full suite of animations, I hope someone can correct me...
1) weatherpanel doesn't seem to like large animations with any more than 22 frames (won't play or show anything if there are more than 22 frames). some of rumball's have 40+ frames. I hope I'm wrong about this!
2) takes several seconds longer to load weatherpanel and switch screens (I run it in secondtoday) and the animations do not play as fast as rumball's smaller animations. file size does not seem to affect playback speed while frame size does. IE a 600k 480x400 animation plays at the same speed as a 2mb 480x400 animation. I had them playing from the internal memory so I have no idea if load times are worse if loading from storage card.
3) looping animations is out of the question as memory usage shoots up to 20mb+ program memory usage. also all other animations on the screen slow to a crawl such as in manila 5-day. point is: these animations only play once. Just switch layouts to see them play again.
4) the most simple animation is still about 1mb, some could easily hit 4mb each
That said, here are some I made that just happened to be the weather in Seattle when I made them. Simply copy them to the LARGE folder and rename or delete (backup first!) the original .png files. If you want to see them no matter what the current weather is, rename the .wpa file to whatever the weather currently is and refresh weatherpanel.
The animations included are:
11 - light rain (I know the rain looks nothing like TF3D, I suck at animation, working on it :P)
26 - cloudy
31/33 - clear night/fair
29 - partly cloudy night
These all work for me on my Touch Pro, and I believe they will require your weatherpanel layout to be at least 400 pixels high. Please let me know how they play on your device, or if they play at all! The way I see it I will continue making animations for weather in the Seattle area but I might be convinced to make some others if demand is high enough. Maybe a few of the most common weather patterns?
And of course mucho thanks to Rumball for an amazing theme and for giving me tips on how to make these! I probably wouldn't have even bothered using WP if not for this theme as a base.

Great stuff Psyki! Hopefully it won't be too long before I upgrade to a VGA device. What I could do, and if people are interested, if you provide me a list of the animations you plan to create in full VGA, then I can take the remainder of the animations and simply resize my QVGA animations to VGA (and trim any longer than 22 frames).

Thanks! I don't really have a plan of attack for exactly which ones I'm going to make but in Seattle I pretty much never see snow, thunderstorms or severe wind, heheh. I'm still learning how to do more complex animations like wipers or raindrops but I'll at least get the sunny and cloudy ones done. I'll post when I get more finished :)

Hi,
I installed everything as instructed on 1st page.
Display in Today's screen is perfect, but somehow detail weather pages do not display things correctly.
For example, on 6-day forecast page moon phase for Thu is displayed lower than other days. And characters on graph pages are chopped off at the bottom.
Could you tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks.

Unless you are installing my Animated Diamond WeatherPanel while driving over your Treo with a truck, under water, or in a microwave oven, you can not cause any permanent damage to your Treo. ;)
In order for the weatherpanel layouts to display correctly on your square screen you will need to refer to item #6 in the "Weather Panel FAQ" section of the first post.

I only want to change between the cities with sliding my finger up/down, so with gestures.
Is this possible?

Unfortunately you can't. However, Storyr made an app called WP-pilot that allows you to navigate through the weather panel skin using the D-pad. I wonder if he could create something similar that reacts to a finger swipe on an area of the screen.

If you use ThrottleLauncher then an upcoming release includes animated PNG (MNG) support...which means that the WeatherPanel animations can be used in ThrottleLauncher themes. Otherwise you'll need to put a request in to the developers of PocketWeather to support MNG files. According to their website it only supports PNG and TGA icons.

To fans of WeatherPanel;
REJOYCE! :)
The GODS/Geniuses of Storyr and tcbusch over at PPCGeeks have done it again. Thanks to some forward thinking of tcbusch WeatherPanel can still work.
There is an updated DLL (http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=7357)along with a completely zipped package (http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=7357)that fixes the issues that were problematic.
Also gksmithlcw along with some others @ PPCGeeks are working to create a new open source clone of WP to prevent this constant 'fixing' of WP when things stop working. That project (called Quick Mobile Weather) can also be followed over at PPCGeeks or directly at http://code.google.com/p/quickmobileweather/
Just thought i'd spread the word, LongLIVE WeatherPanel.
And thanks again to Storyr, tcbusch, and PPCGeeks for keeping the flame alive.

Animated icons are really great, but how to center them in WVGA screen? I know that this is a matter of editing WeatherPanel files but more details will be welcomed.

Hey folks
Finally an application has been released that allows this to work in M2D!
Check out this thread for the application by dan_ru http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=602221
The post showing the settings I used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5181404&postcount=16
It pretty much just slots straight in now! Few bugs on the app, but it’s only just been released.
Enjoy.

Thanks for the info, would prefer English so as not to make any errors,
So any one know of a fix in English that will fix the moon size problem on Omnia WQVGA, also should weatherpanel fit the whole today screen or just a part of it.
Many thanks in advance for any help.

Maybe Rumball could shed some light on this moon problem on my 240x400 screen, and is there a way to make it use more of the today screen.
Many thanks.

Hmmm...I don't have a WQVGA device so can't really test this out myself. I few things to try;
1) Make sure you have a "Moon" folder in Manila WP Icons. If you don't then you need to redownload to WQVGA files from the first post.
2) Delete any "Moon" folders that you find under "LARGE" and "SMALL" icons. Also check the WP Default folder for "Moon" icon folders and delete them as well.

Many thanks for your reply,
All the above checks out, the only "moon folder" I have is in "Manila WP Icons", Might try copying the Moon folder again, just to be sure.
Is there any thing else that could be wrong, how much of the today screen should the weather panel take up.
Again, many thanks, best looking weather yet.
Have re-done the moon folder, still icons are to big, when I check them there size is 180x164 is this the correct size for WQVGA.

I am in Delhi, India. The issue is that in weather panel, even in the night, the image displayed is that of the sun. It doesn't change to moon. Whereas I have seen the updations happening correctly on other cities for e.g. Toronto. I have tried Delhi, India, New Delhi, India and New Delhi, Safdarjung, India, but in all the 3 cases, the issue prevails. Your inputs please.

for all those having issues with the close button, on 6.5.3 roms, ive used AE button plus to map the close button to the start button. you can actually use a double tap otion, keepin the single tap of the windows hard key, to continue to activate the start menu like normal. MY question is on the moon part. Is there a way to just delete the moon and sun part all together, so i just get the weekly animations?
