Here's my first attempt at releasing a theme for Marsware WeatherPanel (http://www.marsware.net/WeatherPanel/main.htm). It is based off of storyr's PhatFinger III theme but modified to make it look as close as possible to the HTC Diamond's weather application. Tapping on the centre of the screen will bring up the detailed weather report as well as control buttons to gain access to Setup, Update, Radar Images, 6-Day Forecast, and Charts. Tapping on the centre again will return to the simple Diamond weather screen.

For those that use my Touchflo2D theme for ThrottleLauncher you may want to download the attached mod to my weatherpanel layout that integrates more with the overall look and feel of ThrottleLauncher as shown below. Mostly the mod is spacing changes as well as header and footer changes:

To install just unzip the attached file into the WeatherPanel\Themes\Manila folder, over-writing the default ones from the base theme.

- Completed WQVGA/Omnia layouts.

- Deleted ThrottleLauncher layouts. ThrottleLauncher 0.9.6 is now fully compatable with WeatherPanel so there is no longer a need to maintain TL-friendly layouts.

- Adjusted animated icons for Fog, Smoke, Dusty, and Haze (new animations and repositioned to be more in line with the rest of the animations)

- Fixed ALERT messages in VGA layout.

Installation Instructions:

First of all, make sure you've installed Marsware WeatherPanel 2009 ([ http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=7357

1. Download the "Diamond WeatherPanel Theme" file from one of the following links:

VGA Devices:

QVGA Devices:

WQVGA Devices (i.e. Omnia):
http://depositfiles.com/files/wt4jfvcs5

2. Extract the zip file and place in the root of your device's storage card. You should now have a "WeatherPanel" folder on your storage card.

3. Download the "WP fonts.zip" file attached to this post and unzip and place the two font files in the Windows\fonts folder of your device

4. For QVGA and WQVGA Devices you need to download an animated icon set (sorry VGA users...there are no LARGE animations in VGA):

Yes...these are the full icons...there are no longer any TRIAL icon sets...so enjoy! ...though I'd still appreciate donations if you enjoy my work! ;) Donation link can be found below.

Unzip the icons place them into your WeatherPanel\Manila WP Icons\LARGE folder on your storage card.

5. In WeatherPanel options;
a) set Theme="Manila"
b) set Layout="Manila.wpl", "Manila-1line.wpl", or "Manila-5day.wpl"
c) select "Update Time"
d) clear "Don't Display Arrows"
e) set Icon Set to "Manila WP Icons"

6. Go to weatherpanel to setup your city and perform an "Update" to download the latest forecast.

WeatherPanel FAQ

1. Cannot add cities. Cannot update weather forecast. Cannot see hourly graphs. Cannot see moon phases?

2. No temperature displayed on main screen?

Try the following tip posted by mlalahoi. Go to Settings>System>Regional Settings and make sure you have one of the English language regions selected.

5. My city name is too large to fit in the space provided
By default when you add a city, Weatherpanel appends the country/state/province to the name...so remove this and chances are it will fit in the space provided. If there still isn't enough space you can manually edit the layout files and reduce the font size used for #CITY#. Alternatively...move.

6. The theme is too tall/short to fit on my screen!
If the default layouts do not fit your particular setup then you will need to adjust the height to fit your unique setup. To adjust the height of the main screen, edit the appropriate Manila wpl file and simply change the value of the ;HEIGHT variable.

7. How can I get these animations to work with HTC Manila TF3D/Manila2D/HTC Home/SPB Weather (or any other weather application)

8. WeatherPanel beeps when I click on icons
The only way to stop this is go to Start>Settings>Sounds & Notifications and uncheck "Events (warnings,system events)"

Also what HUGE icons are you using? I do have the Diamond HUGE icons if you want them...

The "Weather" heading is actually a XIAMultiTheme header. So the XIAMultiTheme header plus WeatherPanel make up one page of UL.

The developer indicated (here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=378145&page=12) that an update will be coming in June (which is almost over!). Hopefully the new features he mentions will include one to make the contact photos bigger!

I'm playing with the MultiTheme Header deal now.
Trying to figure it out.
I had made some nice Diamond Header images but couldn't figure out how to integrate them into UL.

Man I copied the latest version of XIAMultiTheme to my ppc but when I try to initiate the configuration, it doesn't seem to recognize the program. I couldn't find any more specific instructions on how to run this so I'm stuck for now.

Here's my first attempt at releasing a WeatherPanel theme. I tried to make it look as close as possible to the HTC Diamond's weather application. NOTE: In the screenshots WeatherPanel is running inside UltimateLauncher where the Diamond header and navigation bar are (i.e. they are not part of my WeatherPanel theme)

At this point there are no animations but since WeatherPanel does support animated PNGs (MNG) I may look into trying to replicate the Diamond weather animations once I get some more free time (in the mean time...if someone can point me to a link that shows what each of the diamond weather animations look like that would be a great start for me!)

this is prolly a stupid question, but where do i pace the theme for it to work? which folder in weatherpanel? cuz i see that all the images are together and not in a folder like most themes that can bbe placed in the themes folder, i want to use it with throttlelauncher

To install:
1. Copy "Manila Icon" folder into your WeatherPanel\Icons folder on PPC
2. Copy "MyManila WP" folder into your WeatherPanel\Themes folder on PPC
3. Copy fonts into Windows\fonts folder of PPC
4. If you want the diamond background, use the included Diamond.tsk today theme
5. In WeatherPanel options;
a) set Theme="MyManila WP",Layout="MyManila WP.wpl", Icon Set="Manila Icon"
b) select "Update Time"
c) clear "Don't Display Arrows"

What I would REALLY love to find are samples of the animations so that I can update this WeatherPanel theme to include all the cool animations. I have the PNG files that make up the animations (again...from one of the posts here on XDA)...I just don't know what the animations are supposed to look like!

can you further explain page 1? the indicators are phone alarm, right? what theme are you using? also, is the clock part of XIAMultitheme, phonealarm, or something else? thanks.

This is a nice layout, but I guess this is customised for black backgrounds because it looks very blurry against a light/white background.

I hope you can make a version for light backgrounds. Other than that it looks great :)

On page 1 only the heading (the date) is performed by XIAMultiTheme...the rest (including the analog clock) is performed using a theme I put together for the new PhoneAlarm 2.0. You can find a copy of the PhoneAlarm skin at http://www.pocketmax.net/smf/index.php?topic=6263.0

kittys and cats sit and stand. just some do so more quickly. kitty should stand when cat is sitting. the dogs dont worry. they get food

I just added your Weather panel theme to my Weather panel and I have to say that it looks really good. Is it possible to make the theme in different sizes or make it that when you click for the radar and other tabs to appear they appear above the weather not below? I'm only asking because since my pocket plus 4 isn't at the very top of the screen, the bottom part of this weather panel theme gets cut off. I can't see the radar or update button anymore.

Installation instructions follow. Just a note that this is NOT a "one click" install. Because the setup uses a lot of different utilities it takes some time to install and configure everything correctly.

Installation Instructions:

A. RLToday
1. Install rlToday from http://rotlaus-software.de/projects/rltoday
2. Download rlToday Calendar.zip. Unzip and place Calendar folder in rlToday folder (likely \Program Files\rlToday)
3. In rlToday configuration, set skin to "Calendar"

B. S2U2
1. Install S2U2 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=381588
2. Download S2U2.zip from below, unzip and copy gfx folder into S2U2 installation folder (likely \Program Files\S2U2). Allow overwriting of existing files.
3. In S2U2 configuration make sure to set Clock Font Folder to Option 4 (clockA\) and Weather Forecast to Option 2 (Weather Panel)

C. SPB Mobile Shell
1. Install SPB Mobile shell 2.1 from http://spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/mobileshell/?en
2. Download Spb Mobile Shell.zip from below, unzip and copy into Mobile Shell installation folder (likley \Program Files\Spb Mobile Shell). Allow overwriting of existing files.

D. XIAMultiTheme
1. Install XIAMuliTheme from http://www.xiaprojects.com/?section=All&project=XIAMultiTheme&action=download%20binaries. Installation instructions for this utility can be found at http://www.xiaprojects.com/?section=All&project=XIAMultiTheme&action=faq#3
2. Download XIAMultiTheme themes.zip from below, unzip and copy into, XIAMultiTheme installation folder (likely \Program Files\XIAMultiTheme)
3. Using XIAMultiTheme configuration utility, configure the today SMT themes as follows. Click on "Apply these themes" when finished
XIAMultitheme: Manila-Home
XIAMultitheme1: Manila-Music
XIAMultitheme2: Manila-Weather
XIAMultitheme3: Manila-People
XIAMulittheme4: Manila-Programs

E. PhoneAlarm
1. Install phoneAlarm 2.x from http://www.pocketmax.net/phoneAlarm.html
2. Download PhoneAlarm Diamond.zip from below, unzip and copy into phone Alarm installation folder (likley \Program Files\phoneAlarm)
3. Run phoneAlarm and set skin to Diamond
4. In phoneAlarm "About" tab click on custom settings icon, scroll down and make sure "useSkinDateTime=1" is not commented out with a ' before it

F. WeatherPanel
1. Install WeatherPanel from http://www.marsware.net/WeatherPanel/download.htm
2. Download weatherpanel diamond theme from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=401781 and unzip
3. Copy "Manila Icon" folder into your WeatherPanel\Icons folder on PPC
4. Copy "MyManila WP" folder into your WeatherPanel\Themes folder on PPC
5. Copy fonts into Windows\fonts folder of PPC
6. In weatherpanel options, set Theme="MyManila WP",Layout="MyManila WP.wpl", Icon Set="Manila Icon", select "Update Time", and clear "Don't Display Arrows"
7. Copy diamond.tsk file to PPC and set as today theme

4. Install CNETX Face Contact http://www.cnetx.com/products/contact/
5. Install SPB PocketPlus and SPB Diary
6. Install BatteryStatus
7. Install ThumbCal from NOTE: My rlToday theme that launches ThumbCal assumes that ThumbCal is installed on your storage card.http://www.thumbapps.com/pages/home/thumbcal.php?lang=DE

H. UNSELECT ALL TODAY PLUGINS IN YOUR TODAY SETUP

I. UltimateLaunch
1. Install UltimateLaunch from http://www.ultimatelaunch.de/
2. Download UltimateLaunch.zip from below, unzip and place in UltimateLaunch installation folder (likely \Program Files\UltimateLaunch)

NOTE 1: If you do not have all the programs installed there is a good chance that UltimateLaunch will fail to startup and you'll just end up with a blank screen. This is particularily the case if XIAMultiTheme is not configured correctly. If this happens to you the best thing to do is to go into the Ultimate Launch configuration utility and go through and delete references to any applications you don't have or don't want to use. Alternatively you can use a text editor on the UltimateLaunch.ini file to remove the unused applications.

The programs that UltimateLauncher uses are:
- PhoneAlarm 2.0+ (page 1)
- rlToday + SPB Diary + ThumbCal (page 2)
- WeatherPanel + WP Pilot (page 3)
- S2P, SetVolume, and Mortscript (page 4)
- Face Contacts (page 5)
- PocketPlus & BatteryStatus (page 6)
- and of course XIAMultiTheme on all pages

NOTE 3: Mobile Shell

Just a note that the Mobile Shell 2.1 theme I've attached ONLY includes the Program launcher...you won't be able to access any other features of MobileShell (such as photo dial, MRU, etc).

UPDATE: 26 June 2008: I've uploaded new XIAMultiTheme & PhoneAlarm files...so check them out. New feature in XIAMultiTheme is that now album artwork will update automatically on the today screen! :D

Any version for Pocket Weather? WP and PW themes tend to be used interchangeably with some minor modifications...I love this but since dev work ceased on Weather panel I've moved on to Pocket Weather and would really love to see a compatible version there...

Man, I do not know what it is with you balls ...

First greatbal had his great Diamond theme for MS 2.1. And now you ... holy, smokes! This is just, exactly what I have always wanted my PPC Phone to look like!!!

I will say this, it is a long and evolved process setting everything up. I'm only through phoneAlarm, Weather Panel (first version), Ultimate Launcher ... haven't even applied the them to UL yet, let alone the other stuff.

You know, it would be great if you had a set of instructions, check list, extended education course ... something to carry us slackers through the installation.

BTW, where do I leave the donations?

I've not tried throttlelauncher so I'm not sure. WeatherPanel is simply a today plugin (from Marsware) and I just put together a Diamond skin/theme for WeatherPanel. So if throttlelauncher allows you to add today plug-ins then it should work.

I've had some "boot lock-ups" requiring hard resets. I've traced the problem to installing the Ultimate Launcher ini file.

I haven't examined the differences between the stock one and yours, but I'm hoping you've already got a handle on it.

Any ideas?

Hmmm...if you don't have all of the applications installed that Ultimate Launcher references then that may be what's causing your lock-ups.
You can open up the ini file in a text editor and delete the PlugIns that you don't have installed. For example, say you don't have Pocket Plus...then edit UltimateLaunch.ini and delete the following from the file and resave:

[TodayPlugIn]
Preload = yes
PlugIn = "Pocket Plus"

[Page]
Title = PocketPlus

In this example you would also have to subtract one from the MultiPage line just above this entry since you've removed one of the items on this page. So...change [MultiPage] Count = 2

Another thing that can cause UltimateLauncher to lock up is if you have a Today plugin enabled on your Today screen AND inside Ultimate Launcher. So before enabling UltimateLauncher make sure that all the Today plugins are disabled under Settings>Today>Items. Ultimate Launch should be the only thing selected.

I did not have all the plug-ins installed, but I am very sure I didn't double hump a plug-in.

Looks like I'm goin' in boys ... to the ini file anyway. More work than I wanted, but it will keep me out of trouble while I'm on travel.

Not yet...I lost my diamond weather icons (the individual PNGs that make up the animations...i.e. the PNGs are individual lightning bolts, raindrops, windshield wiper blades, etc) and I can't remember where I previously found them! :rolleyes:

EDIT: Ah ha! Found them in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=401781 When I get back from vacation I'll work on trying putting together the diamond animations into WeatherPanel animated graphics.

The biggest new feature is that now the music tab will dynamically display the artwork from the currently playing album! :D

Hi all!

Found this superb theme just now and almoast lost it :) (in a good way)
So like the real Diamond theme (from what i can see on You Tube)

My humble request is now:

PLEASE!!!!! Make a tutguide for us non programers or lamers that don't realy have worked with this kind of stuff.

I asume that i need all the mentioned software first, then i copy and replace in some cases the files from your downloadlist into the installed folders....

Please, need some help to use this great theme.

Will there be a cab installer when you have the time maybe?
Would be great to just install the software needed and the one cab file to get it to work. :)

You can set this weather panel theme as the only plugin on the today screen. Then when you swipe down in SPB MS it will display this theme. At least that is a way I found to use weather panel with SPB (when I used it). I agree it would be nice if you could use weather panel instead of the weather part of SPB MS.

One thing I've noticed this morning ...

the rlToday ini for the ThumbCal stuff refers to it being installed on the storage card. So, if it's installed on the device itself, ThumbCal won't run.

Ya just have to go into the rlToday.ini file and remove the two references to the storage card and leave it just as Program Files.

I would imagine this would be true for any other software as well.

For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to install Xiamultitheme. Would anyone be willing to help? I've pasted the nightly build to my device program folder but when I run the configure prog my ppc freezes. Help me plz. :)

Just to be clear...you see the correct diamond weather icons...but they are not centered? What happens when you tap on the icon? Does the advanced weather screen display properly? What size of screen does your device have? This theme was designed for QVGA 320x240.

Ah I see.... yeah everything works perfectly except the weather Icons are not centered. I can tap and get all the correct options.

Um i got 2 pda's one's VGA 640 x 480 and the other is VGA 240 x 320

Is there no way to get these up and running on my device properly? I mean all it is, is just positioning the icons to the center of the screen. ???

how come after using ur Diamond skin for phonealarm, mine is showing the time and ur showing AM??

did i do something wrong or miss out something.

wat i did i just copy the three file into phonealarm skin folder. and select diamond skin in phonealarm.

one more thing, as i don wish to use UL, is there any possible to resize the diamond skin for phonealarm?

I just wish to see Phonealarm, BS and calendar on my main page.

In the PhoneAlarm advanced settings you need to set UseSkinDateTime=1. It is commented out with a ' by default. I believe a soft reset is required afterwards.

Did you install only the music part of the xia manila theme? If so, how did you install it? I am only interested in the music plugin and nothing else from that package. Please let me know if that is what you did. Thanks!

My music plugin was based off of the XIA Manila theme, but I changed out some of the graphics and updated it to automatically display the album artwork from S2P. If all you want is my music plugin then download my XIAmultiTheme zip package and only select the Manila-Music folder

When i viewed screenshots of your work i was really amazed and tried to install it on my Touch Cruise but failed. I installed all the programs I saw in your posts, copied nessesary files from yourattachment, removed all plugins from today, except ultimatelaunch, but nothing happens - i see blank screen. Can you explain for some stupid guys like me detailed installation of your great work? For example:
1. You must download or purchase the following programs......
2. You must install downloaded programs to........
3. You must copy (replace) the following files.......
and so on

OK. After numerous requests I have tried to put together a set of installation instructions. I've tried to make them as clear as possible but I'm sure I've missed some obvious steps. Even after following these steps you'll still need to tweak certain things to your liking...particularily SPB Diary, SPB Pocket Plus, and BatteryStatus.

The "Weather" heading is actually a XIAMultiTheme header. So the XIAMultiTheme header plus WeatherPanel make up one page of UL.

Where can i get your UL's icon tabs?

Here's my first attempt at releasing a Marsware WeatherPanel theme (http://www.marsware.net/WeatherPanel/main.htm). I tried to make it look as close as possible to the HTC Diamond's weather application. Tapping on the centre of the screen will bring up the detailed weather report as well as control buttons to gain access to Setup, Update, Radar Images, 6-Day Forecast, and Charts. Tapping on the centre again will return to the simple Diamond weather screen.

NOTE: In the screenshots WeatherPanel is running inside UltimateLauncher where the Diamond header and navigation bar are (i.e. they are not part of my WeatherPanel theme)

first of all great job, even though I could not yet get it to run as UL always freezes when saving data.

The other question I do have. In your Slide to unlock app, I really like the clock, but in my case, I do not see the pointers, I just have the plain clock - no hours, minutes or seconds.

Do you know what can be done to resolve this?

Thanks for answer. I think you missed some settings of XIAMultitheme, such as settings of every tab in XIAMultithemeconfigurator, & i find some mistakes in folder manilla-people\mscr. manilla-black. Ithink you may explain more detailed instructions in UL settings, because after installing all the programs i found in your posts & copying all settings in nessesary folders i was looking at clear screen. Nothing happened. That's why i post my previous post.

Sorry...no progress yet. I have the graphic components needed (individual lightning bolts, individual rain-drops/snow-flakes, etc)...but I just don't know what the Diamond animations are supposed to look like. I've only seen one low quality movie of the Thunderstorm animation. I could probably put that together...

WeatherPanel Traffic Image Tutorial

1. Dock your device

2. From ActiveSync, click the Explore button. A Windows Explorer window will open showing the files on your device.

3. In Windows Explorer, navigate to the WeatherPanel installation folder. It will contain a file named radars.txt. Drag this file to your PC desktop and open it with Notepad.

4. Next, find some traffic cameras. Try googling in your city or state

5. When you find an image you want, right-click on the image (in the browser window) and select Properties from the menu

6. A Properties dialog box will open with information about the image, including it’s URL

7. In the dialog box, drag and select the contents of the URL address. Then right-click on the selection and choose Copy from the menu

8. Now, go back to Notepad, insert a couple of blank lines and paste the URL at the top:

9. In front of the URL you just pasted, type a description for it (this is the description that’s displayed in WeatherPanel)

10. Continue steps 5 through 9 for each image you want. When you’re done, you can delete all the other crap that was in the radars.txt file if you want

11. Save the radars.txt file and close Notepad.

12. Copy the radars.txt file from your PC back to its original location on your
device – replacing the original.

13. On your device, open the WeatherPanel settings and select the city to add the images to.

14. Tap the Edit button, then tap the Weather Images button. On the Weather Images panel, add each image as follows:
• Tap Add New
• Select the image name (from step 9) in the Select Weather Image drop-down
• Tap OK and repeat for each image

15. Use the Up / Down buttons to order the images.

Done!

I am having two problems at the moment I am hoping someone can help me with:

1. When I click on the Voicemail buttion and tell it to call my voicemail, it takes me to the keypad, but won't dial. Anyway to get it to dial?

2. When the phone is in standby mode and goes to the slide to unlock screen, and I do it, I get an error message saying it can't open XIAMultiTheme\XMT_OnPowerOn. It doesn't seem to be affecting the program, but it is a bit annoying since I have to press ok like 5 times before it goes away.

3. Is there anyway to replace the Contacts icon/FingerContacts with the HTC Diamond mail application?

Installation instructions follow. Just a note that this is NOT a "one click" install. Because the setup uses a lot of different utilities it takes some time to install and configure everything correctly.

Installation Instructions:

A. RLToday
1. Install rlToday from http://rotlaus-software.de/projects/rltoday
2. Download rlToday Calendar.zip. Unzip and place Calendar folder in rlToday folder (likely \Program Files\rlToday)
3. In rlToday configuration, set skin to "Calendar"

B. S2U2
1. Install S2U2 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=381588
2. Download S2U2.zip from below, unzip and copy gfx folder into S2U2 installation folder (likely \Program Files\S2U2). Allow overwriting of existing files.
3. In S2U2 configuration make sure to set Clock Font Folder to Option 4 (clockA\) and Weather Forecast to Option 2 (Weather Panel)

C. SPB Mobile Shell

I was having the same problem and PM'ed him and he told me that the program is looking for ThumbCal on your SD card. So install ThumbCal on your SD card programs file and it should work fine. I have tested this and it works fine.

Another option for ThumCal is to go into the associated XML file and change it's installed location to your device (that's what I did).

The vertical bar for Weather Panel will show up if you use the updated WP theme Rumball posted a day or two after the original post.

As Kreigz indicates above, Version 2 of my WeatherPanel theme (available on 1st post) has the option toolbar roll out vertically rather than along the bottom. It also has a few other mods.

As for the FaceContacts...ya...originally I was using an XIAMultiTheme page (from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396910) to display contacts but went for CnetX Face Contacts instead. There is rumoured to be a version coming out soon that allows you to make the images larger.

Are you trying to update over GPRS or WiFi/ActiveSync? I have an update DLL I can post that will work over GPRS (atleast on Rogers in Canada it works)

Ok...try using this DLL. To use,

1) disable WeatherPanel (or UltimateLaunch if you have WeatherPanel running in UltimateLaunch).
2) In your WeatherPanel installation folder make a backup copy of WeatherPanel.dll (or rename it to something like "WeatherPanel.dll.bak")
3) Then replace the DLL with the one found attached in "WeatherPanel- My Patched DLL.zip".
4) Re-enable the WeatherPanel/UltimateLaunch today plugin

NOTE: The above assumes you are using WP v2.51. If you're not...then get v2.51 first!

Hey everyone...I updated my WeatherPanel skin to correct and modify several of the weather icons. I found a few mistakes where the icons didn't match up with the weather description. These have been corrected.

You can find version 3 on the first post.

No animations yet but I'm still researching it. :rolleyes:

I keep running into a problem someone can hopefully help me with:

With the rlToday/ThumbCal apps, when I click the left month (July), I get an error messages sayings it is not signed or missing components, but when I click on the right month (August), ThumbCal pops up. Any solutions?

Also, on the Home screen, when I click on the VoiceMail icon, it asks if you want it to call the VoiceMail box, but when I say yes, it doesn't do anything. It just takes me to my dialpad. Any solutions?

Hey fellow Diamond WP users. I'm starting to play around with the animations and thought I'd post what I've done so far. Nothing too special...I've done the "Sunny" icon and the "Mostly Sunny" icon animations. I'm learning things as I go so I'm starting off simple:p

Attached you'll find a zip file containing 30.wpa and 34.wpa. Copy these into the icons\LARGE folder of my Diamond weather panel theme and temporarily rename 30.pna and 34.pna (for example...change the extension to .bak or something).

Let me know what you all think. I'm not sure I can get the animations as smooth as the actual Manila animations. If there's enough interest then I'll work to create the full set.

Ofcourse the down side will be that the WP theme will take up more space (~10x). While one image is currently ~35K, the animation is about 400K a piece! Maybe I can find a more optimum way of compressing the animations.

Anyway...enjoy! :)

The other thing you might want to consider is that not all the weather icons have to be animated. The Stardock animated icon set for WP does not have animation for all icons. Rain, wind snow, etc, would make sense for animation. Not sure if the cloud and sun really needs animation (or make those last)...then again, since you have done sunny already, roll with it.

A question to Rumball: you have updated the Large icons. But does that mean, that the smaller icons used for the FC, are not showing the correct weather?

Making them loop is very easy to do however for these first "trials" I decided not to loop them. The two potential issues are: 1) Bogging down the CPU with continuous animations, and 2) Difficulty in making the animations run smoothly between the last and first frames. The way they are now the animation will show a noticable jump. Making it smooth could be a bit difficult.

As for the small icons...these are unaffected and will continue to show correctly in the extended forecast page. Only the large icons will be animated.

Here's my first attempt at "Thunderstorms". I still want to add the rain droplets appearing on the screen. I doubt that that I'll add the windshield wipers since the file will likely get extremely large.

Note that the enclosed file 17.wpa can also be copied to 3.wpa since both are thunderstorms.

Ahhh...ok. Actually you're correct...I never did check the correctness of the smaller icons and looking at them now there are a few changes I'd like to make in the area of the small winter icons.

After I complete my animation set I will post a full release of my WeatherPanel theme...version 5A being static icons and 5B being the animated icons.

Wow, this theme looks awesome..

But.. (always a but ;) ) I have gone through your directons 3 times, following the steps (Im pretty experienced in this..well..I like to belive so anyways :) )

But when I move the UltimateLaunch.ini file into UL, and soft reset, my Polaris freeze up.

So I was thinking, is it possible I have to old versions of in.ex SPB Diary and SPB PocketPlus?

And When I open the settings in Phonealarm, I cant find the line useSkinDateTime=1 anywhere? Im starting to wonder if im blind :)

Soooo....what I was hoping to know here, is what build versions you use with the diffrent apps, maybe that is what cause my problem.

It is easier if you scroll all the way down to the bottom and then search up since it is very close to the bottom of the list.

At the bottom, there is a list that looks different than the rest of the page. If you scroll a couple rows above that, then you should find it without too much trouble.

But definitely start from the bottom since it is almost at the end.

Okay, so I copied them into the Large folder in Icons/Manila Icons/Large and changed it to .pna. Do I leave it as that or do I have to change it to .bak? :confused:

EDIT: I think I got it working but I am not 100% sure. I changed them to .pna as mentioned above and I added Corpus Cristi, TX and I see the clouds changing very slowly. Hopefully, tomorrow I can see the sunny animations. I am loving this Rumball. Keep up the excellent work!

It is easier if you scroll all the way down to the bottom and then search up since it is very close to the bottom of the list.

At the bottom, there is a list that looks different than the rest of the page. If you scroll a couple rows above that, then you should find it without too much trouble.

But..I just cant get the total package going, with UL and all..Its sad, cause it looks so great..

I tried 5 times now, and it always ends up with a hard-reset cause my phone totally freeze..weird, cause I downloaded the latest versions off all software...well..guess its not for me :)

My recommendation would be to edit the UltimateLaunch.ini file from my package to remove references to all the today plug-ins. Then start adding the plugins one at a time through the UltimateLaunch setup menu in order to try and figure out what is causing UltimateLaunch to hang. I find that UltimateLaunch is very tempermental and easy to crash if everything isn't just right. Also...make sure that no other today plugins are enabled except for UltimateLaunch.

Here is something you should try since I have done a hard-reset about 6 times this week alone trying to get Rumball's theme perfect to my liking.

The thing I noticed is that once you install XIAMultiTheme before the rest of the programs it gives you issues. So the trick is install everything as Rumball has stated, but don't install or configure XIAMultiTheme until just before UL.

So put it in your Programs folder, but don't do anything to it. Once you install everything else and are about to install UL, go ahead and fix XIAMultiTheme. Then install UL.

If you still are having problems after you do that, simply uninstall UL and reinstall it.

But I figured it out somewhat (all besides the contacts, that only display facecontact as it is)

I needed to re-add the xia themes, and apply them as todaythemes in "install" tab in XIA, then it worked fine :)

Hmmm...that's weird. Are you using this on a VGA device? (the theme is only designed for QVGA...). It may be due to missing fonts... someone earlier pointed out to me that I only included the necessary fonts in V1 of my theme. I've added a link on the first post now where you can download just the font files. Try copying these into your \windows\fonts directory and soft-resetting to see if that gets the temperature to display.

Do not rename the .wpa to .pna. Go back and rename them .wpa and the animation should work in Weatherpanel.

Ok...I've completed 21 of the animated weather icons and I'm, for the most part, extremely happy with the results and am looking forward to being able to pass them on to you all to try out. :D

I did want to have a poll here to get some of your inputs on an item I've been unable to decide upon. I have decided to go with the endless loop / repeated animations (though I will likely post a non-repeating animation version of my theme as well). Surprisingly the long complex animations aren't that difficult to blend so that the endless animations loop appears to flow somewhat nicely. However when it comes to the short simpler weather states, I'm having a difficult time deciding on how best to do the animations. With short & simple animations it is very easy to notice the repeating frames and can end up looking a bit corny in my opinion.

So here's the poll I'd like to make. Attached are three versions of the "Partly Cloudy" weather state. I'd like to know which one you prefer so I have an idea on how best to approach these simple weather icons.

Version A: Simplest animation. Sun throbs behind the cloud.
Version B: Sun throbs and cloud goes by the screen repeatedly.
Version C: Sun throbs, and cloud swoops in and then fades out.

Version C, I believe, is the closest to the actual Diamond animation....but don't know for sure.

So...which do you like best? A, B, or C? If you have any other ideas, send them my way! You can either post your vote/idea here or PM me with it. For simple votes, I would prefer you simply PM me.

im using skin version 1 and the icon apears at the top left of the screenwhere the temp is. I tried version C of the icon and what i can see of it looks good. can you post the other versions of the skin using a different link? maybe zshare? thanks. plz keep up the great work.

I have mine setup as a plugin in ThrottleLauncher and it works great, I don't know about UL. Hopefully someone can help you get it working. Right now there are only 3 .wma's working, so it needs to be sunny, partly cloudy or windy and raining at your location to see them working in Weatherpanel. Hopefully this week there will be a new release with all the wma for all conitions.

Any suggestions for an alternate hosting site? The new V5 animated theme is going to be BIG. I would guess about 30-40Megs. And don't worry...this theme will be installable on your storage card.

How do you create .wpa files ?

.wpa files are PNG-Animation files (MNG animations) that simply have the file extension renamed from .mng to .wpa.

To create the .wpa animations I do the following:

1) Using GIMP + GAP (Gimp Animation Package) I put together my animation filmstrip. The output of this process is a "film strip" of .png files...about 11 for small animations and 40+ for the longer ones.

2) Once the serious of .PNG files are complete, I use ImageMagick to convert the string of PNGs into a MNG file (a great tutorial is at http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/anim_basics/#types)

3) Once the MNG file is created I rename it to .wpa and it's done.

Arrrg...Sorry folks...I forgot to mention that the actual weather panel theme has been updated in order to display my new animations in the correct location. When I release Version 5 of my WeatherPanel theme the animations will be correctly centred on the screen.

For now it is best to view the animation files in the stand-alone desktop PC MNG viewer I posted earlier (though I should note that playback speed will be much faster on your desktop PC than inside WeatherPanel). If you really want to try out the A, B, and C versions of 30.wpa inside weatherPanel you'll need to edit Manila.wpl and Forecast.wpx as follows:

I already copy the fonts to windows\fonts\ and soft reset, but the WP still no show the tempertura, H & L numbers, does anybody has the same problem?

No that's a function of Weather Panel. Once the current temp has met or gone higher than the forecast high, it goes blank.

i have spent about 18 hours doing this over and over... i have followed the directions to the letter. when i install the individual programs they work fine... it seems like when i install the UL is when things go bad... I really like this but it is not working for me... HELP

UL is somewhat tempermental in my experience. Try my suggestion at post 143 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2451200&postcount=143)

From what I can tell the animations stop running when WP is not showing. The way I tested this out was two-fold:

1) I start with having a long animation playing...such as one of the raining weather icons. When the windshield wipper starts sweeping across the screen I switch to another UltimateLaunch tab. When I come back to WeatherPanel some point later the windshield wipper is still where it was and then continues with the animation.

2) Using acbTaskMonitor I charted CPU% useage. When the weatherpanel tab is in focus my CPU is almost constantly at 100% useage. When I change tabs CPU useage drops to 17%. If I go in to weatherpanel and change the theme to a non-animated theme (such as the default theme) the CPU useage is also 17% when WeatherPanel is not in focus.

So this would tend to indicate that your battery & CPU should not be impacted by these animations when WeatherPanel is not in focus.

You claimed a few days ago that wipers were beyond you..... now you are a wiper wizard... and are currently costing htc ( work it out, I am happy with my tytn, no need for diamond yet,... a large sum of money!) Everything seems to work perfectly even with endless animation, thanks again.

Sweetness.....going to have to try it out after I am done working for today.

This particular theme only works as fullscreen, right? Meaning...I had Weather Panel installed before using the Phatfinger theme and I ran it from within Ultimate Launch. I had UL set to 225 pixels, and WP with Phatfinger fit in there just right. Since you are using it with UL too, to how many pixels do you have the plug in set? And.... in UL, do you have to use a certain pixel space definition for all tabs, or can that vary from tab to tab?

The first link is to the WeatherPanel application which was developed by Marsware (not me!). For the WeatherPanel application you can simply download the free trial version. The developer for this application has been AWOL for the past few years and so I think it's kinda turned into freeware and kept up to date by a bunch of people at http://pixel.citadel.org/weatherpanel/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=184&sid=96e4dea46dc68415e7c2cfeb2f41a18b

I only put together this Diamond theme/skin for WeatherPanel so if you wish to make a donation towards the skin that would be great. ;)

I'm not aware of any other weather application that can display these animation files. Can you post a screen shot of your omnia? I can see if a simple mod to the theme files can correct the text display.

Do the animations appear in the correct location on your omnia? i.e. centered?

Damn man! Now that the thing I have been waiting for all week is released, my activesync has died and I have to restore my laptop from scratch so another day before I install them!!!!

They look great Rumball!!!

One more item: Does anyone know if there is a Cab install of weatherpanel available? I restored my laptop in part to all the crap that I install through setup when I first got my Tilt (3 weeks ago) and it has too much junk. So I have Cabs of everything except weatherpanel. Please help.

in opening post rumball talks of ::

i am stuck here.. i dont/cant find "WeatherPanel options"

what am i missing?

ALSO:: i am running L26 V9.. would all the options here work better if i went back to stock wm6.1?

Hmmm...I just checked my source RAR file and those files extract fine with the same encryption password. Are they giving you an error? Also...are these the static, loop, or single-play images that you are referring to?

I took a look at your screenshot and the animation is in the correct location but the fonts are much larger than they are supposed to be (obviously!). Is the Omnia a 320x240 device? Can you find out what the DPI of the screen is? The perhaps the font size needs to be tweaked in the Manila.wpl file.

Try this:

edit Manila.wpl with a text editor. Go to the lines

;TEXT
#CITY#
0,140,240,40,C
helvetica light,25, GLOW-65-65-65 GLOWEXPAND-1,220-220-220

and try changing the font size down to 12. So change the line to read

helvetica light,12, GLOW-65-65-65 GLOWEXPAND-1,220-220-220

You'll probably need to soft reset afterwards.

Did this make your city name appear centered horizontally and positioned immediately below the weather animation? The other text will still be too large...but lets just focus on the city name for now.

Rumball, is there a chance you start using Unicode fonts in your skins.. for international users...
