[APP]Cloned TodayScreen - SecondToday - Alpha version

Since my next device will be an xda diamond (at least i hope :D ) where Today-Plugins can't be used together with TouchFlo 3D.. i've release a very early alpha version of SecondToday.
An application that behaves like the default-todayscreen. This way you can use e.g. TouchFlo 3D and all your today-plugins (wrapped by SecondToday).

Tap and Hold on a free window area will open the settings-dialog!!!

Hey ikarus, i'll gave your SecondToday 0.25 a shot and I'm quite impressed. I use it with the Diamond on the Left-Softkey on Hometab.

The only todayplugin I use is TodayAgenda ... there are some redrawing glitches after changing its preferences: it shows only a quarter of the screen, maybe you didn't notice this with qvga, but if I restart SecondToday everything is OK

solution so far.. add it to the exception list of htc-taskmanager and bring the SecondToday-Window to front by starting the program (executeable) again.

no not yet. It's coded, but tests missing. I guess it will be released end of the week but not for sure since i still have to work for money ;)

It is not enough to select a Theme - it is nessecary to select a definitiv Picture with resolution 640 x 480.

at first it should behave like default-todayscreen

then some features for plugin-developers are already implemented and used by BatteryStatus.
e.g. Performance features for quicker response or faster drawing like TODAYM_REQUESTREFRESH (which isn't supported by old windows mobile builds) to immediately recalculating the height..

So.. the most important feature is stability and performance.

I have some ideas to integrate trayicons, but this would only work with BatteryStatus since i don't want to hook the system or something similar only for trayicons.

And of course if you have ideas for a "better TodayScreen" then let me know hehe

Great idea. This is a must for those who use other plug-ins. I'll stick with you on this one. First I installed it, however the image I use for the today background (which with FLO 3D creates the background for the start menu) also creates the background for 2ndToday, can that be individualized in the config menu with a simple browse to file type function. Be cool to have a normal flo 3d background, and a naked chick in black heels on the secondtoday screen :D.

2. Is there a way for a checkbox option to bind the touchflo3d right softkey to activate the secondtoday screen. Right now I use WKTask which puts the minimized icon at the top to quickly switch over. Using it on one of the launcher buttons doesn't make for a super fast switch to hide the naked chick:D

I'm running my fave O2plus plugin will all my calendar events displayed nicely on the second today screen. Also changed the left softkey of TF3D to 2nd today screen. I'm a happy man. Now I don't know what else to put on the 2nd today screen :P

Imagine.. if we can have multiple today screens for those guys who are plugin-crazy. It's like having a unix system on yr PPC with multiple workspaces!

Unfortunately "Tasks" is a built-in plugin. Only the windows mobile todayscreen can access it. You can't use it in Ultimate Launch, iLauncher, Pocket Plus etc.

try TodayAgenda or some other freeware Plugins which can handle Tasks

somehow it doesn't seem to use the whole screen (there are scrollbars although at least 10 pixels seem to be free at the bottom)

Some feature requests (I know, it's only alpha, but I'm just thinking about it ;-))
- Ability to change the background (or at least don't use \Windows\stwater.jpg (?) but an image that only SecondToday accesses)
- Ability to change the softkeys (without 3rd party tools)
- Multiple SecondToday - tabs (change them with gestures?)
- As mentioned before: checkbox to automatically hook in TF3D right or left softkey (registry...)

Up/Down will be added later, as mentioned by ikarus. Give him some time, and it'll be up :)

Background can be set either by changing today theme or setting background from programs->pictures&videos, then right click->set as background.
It's just like changing your original today screen!

that's the error message if your path is wrong, so check your registry entry again! ... i know this is a misleading message

I have read that thread times but I can't get it working.

but i'm not sure whether your request is really reasonable. It's not a problem to enable it with SecondToday.. in fact it is easy.. Just some housekeeping for the plugins of the containing window and some logic to show/hide them, but i don't know yet.

you can do it right now with BatteryStatus if you place all the plugins into several views and switch between them by gestures. (Consider one Row with multiple Views within BatteryStatus)

- Multiple SecondToday - tabs (change them with gestures?)...you can have multiple instances of SecondToday right now.. (okay since version 0.2.7 hehe)

just clone the SecondToday-Folder and rename it to SecondToday1 or SecondToday2 or similar.. The Window-Title (configured in settings) of each instance should be different.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work for me:(. It shows only a quarter of the screen and it doesn't draw the whole screen upon selecting it. I've removed and we'll wait for a version that will work.

Well I got the same issue (rom 1.37 WWE). You can fix it by closing secondtoday by tappin on the SToday Quit icon. You can find it in the SecondToday folder, next to StodaySettings.
When you closed it, try to start it again. It works for me then. However, if you close it in taskmanager, you get the described bug/problem. So if you want to quit SecondToday (but why would you :p) then use SToday Quit and not the upper righ X button

I tried it out on my Diamond (running Chinese Traditional OS) last night, I was able to launch Second Today but things were a bit gobbled up & couldn't display anything but the time bar & MapKing, so I un-installed it.

Ok, here's a plan how to get this nice program to run :

1. first install SecondToday, remember where you install it : onto phone or onto internal memory
2. go with Resco Explorer/TotalCMD/Explorer to the location where you installed it
(typically : \programs\SecondToday for installation on phone and \internal storage\programs\SecondToday if you installed it onto internal storage)
3. remember the location where SecondToday.exe is
4. Open registry and go to \HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila
5. double click on HomeLSKPath and type in the EXACT location where SecondToday.exe is located (includung capital letters)
6. press OK when your finished.
7. Now go to HomeLSKText and type there "SecondToday" or some other text that you want to show for your LEFT softkey
8. press OK to save this value
9. Close registry editor
10. soft reset your phone
11. After soft reset, it should show on the LEFT softkey "SecondToday"
12. Start SecondToday, if everything went well, you won't see Touchflo 3D anymore but the familiar HOME screen
13. Go to Task Manager, it should say that SecondToday is running
14. Tap and HOLD onto SecondToday in the Task Manager
15. You will get a popup menu with the option : add to exclusive list (or something like that).
16. Take that option and your finished.

Now you can enjoy switching between TF3D and normal HOME screen (with all the plugins that you like).

Date, Calendar and all other default windows items will not show. It can only show additional plugins. This has been explained in a post before.

As for your resco plugin, try to soft-reset the device and see if it appears. I had the same prob with my O2plus plugin. I went to the original today settings to check if its there, then made sure it is mirrored onto the 2ndToday. Works after a reset.

What i mean is, when you open it with whatever method (I use touchflo on my mogul, right to left gesture) to get it to slide your wallpaper over from the right or wherever so it looks kinda like the spbshell slide animation, but load the plugins after to save power, etc.

I've tested some animations, but it's strange.. the BitBlt-function of Diamond is somehow slow.. even the VGA-Device-Emulator is faster in bliting memory blocks for rendering..
Maybe i'm doing something wrong, but animations looks good only for e.g. Prophet-Device..
i could employ Direct3D, but that's too much for just showing an opening animation..
Maybe someone can explain why the blitting is so bad or what i am doing wrong :(
Or maybe i'm one of the people having a device with so slow memory build in?

installed this program and evrything is OK. I also changed the softkeys in Touchflow, the left to start second today and the right to PocketInformant and also that is OK.

When I'm in secondtoday I got 2 new softkeys, the left Agenda (Calendar) en the right contacten (Contacts)
When I push the left I got PocketInformant Calendar, what is exactly what I want. When I puch the right one I got the standard contacts and not the contacts in Pocketinformant.
Is there a way to program those softkeys?

I've tested some animations, but it's strange.. the BitBlt-function of Diamond is somehow slow.. even the VGA-Device-Emulator is faster in bliting memory blocks for rendering..
Maybe i'm doing something wrong, but animations looks good only for e.g. Prophet-Device..
i could employ Direct3D, but that's too much for just showing an opening animation..
Maybe someone can explain why the blitting is so bad or what i am doing wrong :(
Or maybe i'm one of the people having a device with so slow memory build in?
I don't understand it yet..

When I puch the right one I got the standard contacts and not the contacts in Pocketinformant.

I have a specific plugin which does not work with SecondToday for some unknown reason.

Situation:
1. I install tofclock today plugin (a photodialer plugin), all goes well, I soft reset.

2. Device boots, and Tofclock displays on Default today screen (It automatically activates itself), I go into settings and turn off Tofclock.

3. I open SecondToday and tap n' hold for settings page, I check off Tofclock and the Settings page closes along with SecondToday.

4. Hmm... Thats wierd, I try to reopen SecondToday, It tries to open briefly and immediately closes.

5. Soft reset, Try to open SecondToday again, same results....

Now I have tried different methods to get it working but always results in this "crash" which is only fixed by uninstalling Toflcock, and soft resetting.

I have attached the plugin Im trying to use below.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Oh also im using a sprint mogul with the leaked "official" 3.56 rom (Wm6.1)

you have to reload PocketBreeze, since it appears to cache the background-image for faster drawing.

This works with default-todayscreen and SecondToday version 0.3.1

use DWORD Name=4 and value=.. for text-color

The default-todayscreen takes it immediately, but you need to restart SecondToday for the changes to be applied.

If I can make a suggestion, adding the next feature would be without doubt a big advantage for people who can not make changes in the registry.

It would be nice that we can directly with Second Today modify the left soft Key of Touch Flow 3D to start Second Today, and make it invisible to the Task Manager for HTC not close it by mistake.

I successfully installed and work fine but the option just showed "Internet Calling", Windows Live, Windows Live Search, "Messaging", "Device Lock" & RRS Hub. I want to add other program such as calendar, task, etc in Second Today.

Your question has already been answered multiple times.

You can't add standard applikations in SToday. Only additional applik. can be added. for example calendar+

You can see it if you have BatteryStatus with taskbar-indicator enabled.. the taskbar-indicator is still there what means that SecondToday is still running...

Do you have a solution for this?yes, you must deactivate "automatically adjust plugin height", since i don't know (yet) how the plugins calculate that. This function results in different behaviors.
Spb Diary uses the max height and pocket breeze just freezes (actually it does not freeze, but ends up in an endless-loop setting its height to >500 and afterwards <300 and afterwards >500 and so on.. and SecondToday executes this request immediately compared to default-today-screen).

At least i'm counting sms, calltimes, gprs/umts-data with BatteryStatus, oh and using BatteryStatus to spot the batterylevel/current cpu-usage onto the taskbar.. and some other things.. and these functions needs the plugin enabled even if manila is running.

Apart from that, you can have a second-todayscreen, that is two today-screens allowing you to use more today-plugins (useful not only for a diamond)..


Oh and killing a process could lead to memory leaks too hehe

First of all SecondToday is a great program. I've SPB Diary and SPB Phone Suite installed on SecondToday and put SecondToday in the taskmanager exclude. Also I have deactivate "automatically adjust plugin height" in SPB Diary.

After midnight my Diamond freezes. My Diamond says "Tap here to launch TouchFLO 3D", but I have to reset the device. When SecondToday is really closed with taskmanager my Diamond freezes not after midnight. I can reproduce this.

Any ideas? I would like to you SecondToday and the SPB Apps

Don't know what i did, but after one more soft-reset it worked as i want. Maybe to have the "show today-Screen on WakeUp"-box unchecked in batterystatus options/tools

There is a small thing but. A plugin PocketIslam is not shown correct on the Second Today screen. It is ok on the classic start menu. You can find in the attachments.

I tried a workaround: Run plugins on classic today, run Touchflo3d in second today.

When touchflo is started in the second today, it overrides the classic today plugins and nothing is shown.

Solution to either scenario is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi guys, i have a problem:

I have installed secondtoday on my device, the st start at startup in backgraound. I also installed chai-tai key remap.
so i have tf3d on and i can switch to sd only push the st prog in programs menu. When st is on i have the left softkey with SToday and for switch to tf3d i had to push the L.s.key.
How i can create also in tf3d the sofkey for Sec.Today?

If I remember corretly, if you have the old ROM (1.37), the registry editing for TF3D softkeys isn't visible, until you restart TF3D.

Could ST be setup so that it would not close unless it was done manually? I mean when I "close all" or just hit ok/close, ST closes. I have seen apps that close by running them a second time. If this were the case, there would appear to be no default and second. It would be switchwing between the two so to speak. You could map it to a single hardware button for convenience.

I only have one plugin activated under secondtoday, namely, PocketBreeze 5.4.1

The problem is that PB will NOT react to D-Pad actions, either the arrows or the enter key. I tried fiddling around with PB D-Pad settings, to no avail.

Has anyone found a way to use the scroll wheel with SecondToday? I'd like to use it to scroll through my PocketBreeze screen.

I've tried adding SecondToday to the Smarttouch programs list with the Advanced Config app but that didn't work.

I think you would have done this but just in case. Did you to Today under Settings and go to Items and check back TouchFLO 3D. That's the thing that starts up the TouchFLO screen.

i have some concerns with the app, but great concept. i tried to make UL the only today plugin and just use that to get to any apps. but, it redraws the graphics horribly and i cant add any of my icons that are stored on the storage card. i then just tried using beejive and pocketsportscenter as the only today plugins and i still get the same bad redrawing of the graphics. ill try and work it out and see if there was something i did though. thanks again and the concept and app are great

Hi guys,

i really have problems with this app.
I installed it, followed the instructions and remade the manila key.
When first pressing the manila key after the softreset the home screen would appear - so far so good. But i cannot edit anything in it. Not while pressing in a free space for a long time neither by trying to open the settings of secondtoday (nothing happens when i try to open it).
And the most striking is that whatever i do, it does NOT show secondtoday in the taskmanager, neither in the HTC Standard Manager nor in Schaps Taskmanager.
Lastly, when i go to my Today´s Options i see TouchFlo3D is inactivated just after i activate Secondtoday.
Any Ideas?

I already read a lot through the internet and the only similar report was BlackFears Report in this thread quoted in this post.

I had some plugins installed previously tough, all of them uninstalled a while ago and reg cleaned too.
The only plugins i use for the phone is Diamond TF3D Config.

While trying different things i messed up my Touch and had to Hard Reset.
After HardReset SecondToday works - so it probably was due to the previous installed and deleted applications.

When using PocketBreeze and secondtoday, PocketBreeze jumps left and right continually (as if adding and removing the scroll bar to the right). This happens only when setting "adjust height automatically". If i set the height in PocketBreeze manually, it's ok, but I'd like to be able to use auto height. It seems PocketBreeze doesnt know what height to settle on, maybe SecondToday doesnt report this value correctly?

I have a 240x240 square screen device. On the first page of the settings, the portion that allows a custom background to be selected does not show up on the screen. The only portion of the settings on that page that I can see is the plugin selection, and whether to add the program to startup.

Can a scrollbar be added for those with smaller screen resolutions, or maybe another tab dedicated to background selection?

Is there another way to get to the custom background setting?

Sorry to sound harsh but this doesn't seem like the responsibility of such a program. I suppose if original today can "adjust" then secondtoday should be able to adjust the same.

The harsh part is this: Instead of "fighting" a lost cause, making programs work in a resolution that never was successful (thank God) for WM, why don't you decide to buy something more modern?

It seems to load just an empty screen like the secondtoday one, but i dont have second today installed anymore.

just clone the SecondToday-Folder and rename it to SecondToday1 or SecondToday2 or similar.. The Window-Title (configured in settings) of each instance should be different.

i had an idea about a customized mobileshell like nowscreen, so i i put together the following secondtoday.

and added it to the notification queue.

i used pocket digital clock, pocketbreeze and rltoday to get this result i think homescreen++ would result in better results, but i didnt want to read the skinning guide. if you want to rebuilt this with homescreen++ feel freee i would be very thankful.

i have two questions for this

- can i force SecondToday to show up and not to toggle? the thing is when secondToday was in front and i wake up the device it will be minimised (funny thing - i requested the toggle behaviour)
- is there a better way to launch a program on wake up than the notification queue? s2su fires up everytime i wake up the device. over the notification queue the device needs to be in full sleep, which is only after a few seconds?

If started this way, TF3D does not make any changes to the today screen setup. I remapped my left TF3D softkey to call a mortscript that kills manila.exe, the softkey is labeled "Exit TF3D". That's not perfect, but it's ok for me.

Having TF3D on the 2ndToday would be better, but seems to be impossible with the current TF3D implementation.

When I hit the ok button, Second Today remains active in the background.

Another option is to configure one of the softkeys so that you can switch between TF3D home screen and the Second Today home screen.

Unfortunatly,didn't work properly on my Thouch HD, can install, can use/switch it several times, then device get stuck/ hang up!
Need to do serveral soft resets. Almost had to remove backcover for that issue, on screen was impossible because device freezes! I think there is a big need for a manual, what inform user to do /or not to do, over general settings step by step, installation, first things first etc.etc.
Because of the possobility to do some settings in the normal/first TodayScreen and SecondTodayScreen App to, it seems to more difficult then it looks like!
Can't find this info anywhere, neither on your website, or did I something overlook!

Ok, here's a plan how to get this nice program to run :

1. first install SecondToday, remember where you install it : onto phone or onto internal memory
2. go with Resco Explorer/TotalCMD/Explorer to the location where you installed it
(typically : \programs\SecondToday for installation on phone and \internal storage\programs\SecondToday if you installed it onto internal storage)
3. remember the location where SecondToday.exe is
4. Open registry and go to \HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila
5. double click on HomeLSKPath and type in the EXACT location where SecondToday.exe is located (includung capital letters)
6. press OK when your finished.
7. Now go to HomeLSKText and type there "SecondToday" or some other text that you want to show for your LEFT softkey
8. press OK to save this value
9. Close registry editor
10. soft reset your phone
11. After soft reset, it should show on the LEFT softkey "SecondToday"
12. Start SecondToday, if everything went well, you won't see Touchflo 3D anymore but the familiar HOME screen
13. Go to Task Manager, it should say that SecondToday is running
14. Tap and HOLD onto SecondToday in the Task Manager
15. You will get a popup menu with the option : add to exclusive list (or something like that).
16. Take that option and your finished.

Now you can enjoy switching between TF3D and normal HOME screen (with all the plugins that you like).

But I have a question also:
In SecondToday you can toggle different things like: TouchFLO3D, Windows Live Search, DeviceLock etc.etc.
1.Is it also possible to add manually for example the Messages from another account than the Outlookaccount (Mobiledeviceaccount) or other things like, SMS satus?
Because I also installed TodayAgenda and it appears automatically in SecondToday?
2.In SecondToday screen I have also a big gray vertical scrollbar, is that normal, can I toggle this anyway? Doesn't look great, but maybe it has to be so like it is!?
BTW, it's a very nice combination SecondToday and TodayAgenda, I love it!

Todayagenda 1.5 has been released to pocketpcfreeware and other locations and it doesn't play well with second today....had to go back to older v1.1 to have it work....I use "fixed size" in settings under 1.1 and it works fine...under 1.5 using same settings I get blank today screen.
