View Full Version : Performance Improvment - Kill BIOTOUCH.EXE
Nadavi
21st June 2008, 01:08 PM
Hi,
I've noticed that the file biotouch.exe is always running. (it's the file that activated the Old Cube, that doesn't work in the diamond anyway).
So i killed the process with TaskManager2005 (google it).
It free's up memory, and makes the device snapier.
The question is, How to prevent it from running by default? on Startup?
Nadavi.

You can make a fake biotouch.exe and replace the real one, but i don't now if this realy makes the device snapier.
Something like that I had made here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=368269

are you sure that biotouch.exe is just for the old cube?
i think it also implements the finger scrolling for all applications so that you don't have to use the old scrollbar with the stylus.

Yes, it's just for the Cube..
It's similar to the Elf one....
Just replace Biotouch.exe with a 0kb one...
Remember that there are also other applications releated to the cube (at least in Touch rom)...

I killed it :p but I don't see any difference in the efficiency and in the speed.

Doesn't work.
The device just won't allow this file to be "deleted" \ "Overwritten"...

I killed it as well, but nothing changed...everything remains the same.
But don't take me wrong. When I say everything remains the same, I mean everything remains GREAT!
This device has been the best HTC that I've owned until now

How did you managed to replace the file?
Edit:
This is how to:
1. Kill BIOTOUCH.exe
2. Install this cab provided.

Mine is 49% used (55.24MB out of the 113.07MB) upon power up with no program running.
What have you installed on your device to have it in the high 60's? There must be something running in the background or something (e-mail sync, RSS feed/sync, extra fonts, weather sync...etc)?

so I must soft reset...

So looks like there's a use for that .exe after all, but if it's just for non-threaded SMS gestures, that's fine with me since I like teh threadedness.

Hoi Ronny, the answer / explanation is a few posts up.
Too bad this is only a workaround as the memory leak on Elite V1.0 forces me to reset each 1-2 hours whith moderate usage...
Draining from 36mb in programs to barely 5mb is not what you can call "efficient" :(

Yeah, biotouch is neede for side to side scrolling on email, seems like a rather memory hogging process for such a little bit of functionality,
ALSO there is something else i have found! its happend twice now, if i leave my phone in sleep for a while and then turn it back on, it says 'launching touch flow' like it says after you have soft reset it... not sure if that this biotouch or my new 1.37 ROM... but its a new bug, and not consistently reproducible, seems sporadic. hmmm maybe i will try that new cooked ROM... l8r perhaps, need sleep... lol

For some reason the TLR Rom does not (or very very limited) seems to have the memory leak. I'll post other findings in the related TLR Rom thread.

It is not a bug I think
Seems to be "standard" on all new ROM's. Same on TLR's.
It might be a new embedded 2-step process starting up Tochflo3D after the mobile loaded all other applic'a and dll's.
On some stock rom's like 1.34 WWW Hk it was already there, though it started up earlier.

same here with 1.35.404.4 ITA and, also, sometimes the touchflo3d hangs... not letting me to use programs in "programs tab", showing me a message "can't find program" even if the program is normally installed and I can run it from the "normal" menu

I have killed biotouch.exe process, and installed the disabling cab, so far everything's ok - no more biotouch in processes, no errors in SMS application in threaded mode - the font size gets changed as usual when scrolling around the middle button. Rom WWE 1.37

HTC had no reason to include an application it their ROM if it wasn't needed.
The application is used wherever a "cube-like" action is requested.
For example kill biotouch, go to your mail and swing left to get to the next msg..
BOUM, phone freeze, soft reset.
At least this happened to me with a 1.93 ROM

Hi,
I know, a little late, but yesterday I also wanted to kill the Biotouch.exe and so I dicovered this thread.
I even didnt' know that I can swipe left to right in the message windows to change next/before.
So I never used it and don't need it, but possible crashes aren't acceptable for me.
So here is my solution. Works perfectly for me.
But this "fake" Biotouch.exe in your \Windows folder and everythings fine. Biotouch doesn't load and nothing crashes.
Of course you can't swipe messages in tmail.exe, but the left/right arrow buttons still work, so you can use these if you want to change messages.
