are you using a custom rom or the stock? and is your phone unlocked?
im about to hard reset and see if it does anything
Custom rom (Calcu 4.3). So yes the phone is "unlocked".

Any luck on getting this able to work at all on the DIAM500 aka sprints diamond. After trying like 5 different roms, I got one to work, but the touch screen was upside down, and the colors were really low quality and very far off. Anybody else with a sprint or verizon diamond that got it to work? Can I have a link?

Read... One post above you is me talking about it working on a Sprint Diamond.
One page back people describe how to fix the touch screen being upside down.

I did no such patch. I just changed the default.txt calibration and id (although I didn't need to change the id as it worked both ways).
As far as the colors, yes they are still screwed up. It has to deal with the differences between the msm7200(gsm) & msm7500 (cdma) from what I have been able to gather thus far.

So, I know all of you guys have probably gotten this down, and that it has already been posted by I just wanted to make sure it was redealy available again.
I was having booting android on my 1 gig sd card. I found the problem in two places.
1) The card has to be formated FAT32 (Should have known)
2) In Default.txt make sure that "msmsdcc_id=3" by default it is 2. I don't know why this is happens, but for me if it's not 3 it won't boot.
Just trying to help. As I said, I know it has already been posted, but It wasn't very clear and I had to search around for it.

Note about Raph800 Devices
Many Raph800 users have reported that the 20090219 release doesnt boot. To solve this, use the 20090203 release instead.
In order to get Android booting on the Raph800, the following changes needs to be made to the default.txt (manually or using the Android Config Tool)
msmsdcc_id=3
msmts_calib=0x81.0x393.0x358.0x7D
Save, reboot and run!

Guys,
I see just too many people complaining about not being able to send messages. Please note that sending messages works perfectly fine, but when you try to send a message that passes the 160-digits limit, you will get an error after sending.
The sms-structure is like this:
1st msg: 160 digits
2nd msg: 145 digits
3rd msg: 145 digits
And so on...
If you send a message with for example 330 digits, it will be 3 messages in one. After sending you get an error, BUT the receiver does receive the first 160 digits, with a note that the sms is not complete.
So far my results.

Yes, you are supposed to. In the build that I got for testing, before the 20090222, I was able to browse my internal storage. I could listen to music, watch my photos and so on. But in this last build, 20090222, I seem not to be able anymore. I get the message to insert my SD card when I try any of it. I think itś a little strange, but I'm sure that it will be fixed with the coming build, since the technology to get it to work is available :)

Hey, I would really like to thank the developers for the android port. My diamond work really well with android. However, I have a Sprint HTC Diamond and Sprint does not use sim cards. So I am not able to use android as a real phone. I really like to know if you guys are planning on making this usable for me and others like me?
Thank You 1000 times!

Hi,
I had problems running the latest version of android on my t-mobile RAPH300 version, and only the version 20090119 and 20090124 where running. The new version stopped at 'mmcblk0: p1'
I copied all the files from the 20090124 version to the SD/TMP dir, and replaced all the ext2.img files with the new e2.img files (and renaming them like the old ones, ext2.img). Now android boots up! I used msmvkeyb_toggle=off in the default.txt, and now it stops crashing too. I send an sms to myself, because i have no friends, and i recieved it, hooray!
hope it helps somebody.

There is no reason for the masses to be posting in this thread right now. I've been watching patiently since it started, watching the developers become frustrated with their flooded thread. Anyways... this is my first and last post in this thread until its released.

Damn! :) This was some 1500 posts (over 2 months) ago! (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3033846&postcount=1092)
We won't need separate Raph100 vs. Raph800 builds for that. With some modifications (which I had in place earlier) we could set those flags in the two different enable_panel functions and have them passed along to mdp.
I'm still out on a project, postponed 2 return flights already, but will (probably, hopefully ) be back home after next weekend.

I think it's because of the new root.cpiogz. I used the old root.cpio.gz with the new img files, and that worked.

A little confused, but a custom rom or stock or phone being unlocked will make no effect upon Android as Android will run separate from winmo and on top of baseband etc.

that's no problem at all. you can use deboostrap to make debian arm or ubuntu rootfilesystems. for ubuntu arm see http://mojo.handhelds.org
also you can easily use prebuilt rootfilesystems because it's very flexible with the monolithic kernel. (no need to install modules)

It's not entirely developed by google but initiated by them.
A lot of companies work behind the scene.
My company did also something - Not me, but the guy on the other side ot the table ;)
Something about accessing OpenSSL by Java (using JNI) and testing all those security things as well as a signature comparisation tool (which is probably not yet public) to check conformance of two API implementations.

I was actually referring to neopwn as well as the linux builds available at handhelds mojo. I know what android is/does, but im wondering if the other linux builds have sms/phone apps.
Anyways, does anyone here use CrunchBang Linux? I would KILL to have a mobile version of crunchbang, could you imagine your phone's home screen being set to conky?!?!?!
lastly, taken from the handhelds mojo website:
"We're delighted to note that Canonical has also announced it will officially support ARM v7 with the April 2009 release of Ubuntu! Yes! I admit, I had hoped that they would also support the ARM v5/6 variations of the ARM processor, like the mojo project, but this is a first step in the right direction.
In the meantime for the next 6 month you can still get your ARM bits here at Mojo. After Canonical pushes the official Ubuntu release out we'll just see what it makes sense for us to support."

Could someone upload the lastest RAPH100 build image on another mirror?
I tried both mirrors posted on the wiki but my ISP sucks and the download is very slow depending where is located the server (~3kB/s) and it fails after 5 min (even using a download manager doesn't help)
@balsat: If you could put it on your fileserver, it would be great as I'm getting good speed on yours :)

If you get 3kb\s from connect-utb.com, I am very surprised as I get 100-500kb\s regardless if I am in Norway or in Australia (which I was a few weeks ago ^^)

I make a daily build of Android, and not linux kernel... I think there still is some issue with the colors on the Raph800, but when that is fixed it should work!

I'm staying in Malaysia and I can assure you the ISP here sucks big time. They claim there is a problem in an international link and it is out of their control. As result I've returned at the 56k age for almost all websites/servers which are not located in the country, and it is already more than 2 week that it lasts
I guess this what happens when one company has the complete monopoly of the Internet of a country ... :/

Thanks I'll try that.
Actually today, I managed to make android boot on my device by missing files I took from you and from other diamond links on the wiki. But I could almost not do anything once the OS booted. Finally I decided to start from zero to see if I messed up by mixing files from different build and spent 4 hours trying to make it boot again but couldn't find how I manage to make it boot the first time. Hopefully your suggestion will fix my problem :)

I don't make any changes, but the people at Google does (http://android.git.kernel.org/)
I compile the Android source and put the stuff into a ext2 image, it's only minor changes i have done to make it run one DIAM/RAPH
I do some testing on the kernel, the real progress can be seen here (http://git.linuxtogo.org/?p=groups/mobile-linux/kernel.git;a=shortlog;h=refs/heads/htc-msm-2.6.27) but i do compile and publish the zImage (http://balsat.servehttp.com/zImage140309) on my server when changes have been made to the git.

Thanks, balsat.
Finally managed to boot your image. I've read the wiki like 10 times yesterday, but actually missed the important part: DIAM & RAPH hardware difference and configurations (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=RaphaelLinux#Hardwarex20.differ encesx20.andx20.configurations)
After passing the right parameters corresponding to the RAPH100, it boots wonderfully.
The only issue I had was during the first boot, it got stuck when detecting the mmcblok0 partition 1. But after searching in the thread, I found out I only needed to soft reset and launch haret again.
It works rather well on my phone, I can make call (didn't try to receive call though) and the basic stuff seems to work except for the sound.
I think my next step is to build the image myself and study the source code. I may be able to help as I have few years of experience on developing applications under Linux, mainly C network related applications. I have never really messed with kernel development though :)

Hi all, I've been lurking on xda for a long time and I recently got a fuze/tp/ raph for att, I've got some questions relating to this whole android business. I tried it and its very fast and responsive not to mention it looks like it's is just made to be fully customized and skinned etc. I'm wondering about google's role in android on other devices besides their own HTC variants, G1, Dream, etc. Would it not make sense for google to be developing android ports to all the recent HTC devices, giving the consumer a choice? would/ should HTC get bent out of shape about that? they don't develop operating systems, they just skin winmo and when we complain, blame winmo, chip makers, etc. I applaud the efforts of all involved but I do wonder if this could have all been further along by now if the source, google, would have had a wider goal, it seems that they want their OS on their devices for their profit, when if you could buy android for any htc device straight from google they could stand to make more money and gain more of the OS market share.

The zImage (http://balsat.servehttp.com/index.php?dir=Kernels/&file=zImage140309) is responsible for that, so it won't help updating Android images.

Cool, thanks for the quick answer. The colors are the same as before I updated the zimage though. Maybe it isn't recognizing that I'm on a DIAM500, and not a DIAM100? Do I need to change the mtype in default.txt? I don't see an mtype for the 500 in the wiki though.
Looking forward to more testing. ;D

Also having issues with a DIAM500. Updated all the files (March 16th).
mtype 1805 - Same messed up colors as it's always been
mtype 1910 - Still messed up, but the oreintation is horizontal rather than vertical. Blue box moves to top right (from top left)
mtype 2039 - Color looks to be correct (cannot confirm 100%, though there is still the blue box on the top left. )... but it will not boot still. Ends flashing on:
[ 8.684302] Init: cannot find '/system/bin/flash_image', disabling 'flash_recovery'

Guide for Raph800 Color fix included (thx to balsat for compiling the files and hosting it)
1. Go here first. http://balsat.servehttp.com/
2. Get the Android-images.rar from March 15 (Or try March 16 now or newest date) folder and extract the file with winrar to ur desktop. This will create /tmp folder.
3. Also get the kernel file zImage140309 (or newest available kernel)
Rename this file to zImage and replace it with the one in the /tmp/boot folder. (not sure if this is necessary)
4. Also get the root.cpiogz from boot directory and replace it with the one in /tmp/boot folder. (not sure if this is necessary)
5. Change default.txt to
set mtype 2039
set kernel zImage
set initrd root.cpiogz
set ramsize 0x6000000
set ramaddr 0x10000000
set cmdline "root=/dev/ram0 init=/init console=tty0 mem=76M msmsdcc_id=3 imgdevname=/dev/mmcblk0p1 imgdevnum=1 imgdir=/tmp msmts_calib=0x81.0x393.0x358.0x7D msmvkeyb_toggle=hide"

I found this quote about how to get the audio working from another forum:
Audio is incredibly complicated, to get sound out of this thing you have to start two rpc servers, one for adsp messages, one for audio manager messages. Then you send a message to the audio manager and it sends a couple of messages to your server saying that it is ready.
Next you send a message to the modem asking it to enable the adsp post processing task. It sends a message to your other server containing the number of an image that depends on what else the phone is doing.
Next you look up the queue number for the image to get the address of three pptask queues, these three queues are used to send messages to the adsp. First you send lots of parameters to one of the queues to set up the equaliser, the iir filters and adrc. Then you send a message to one of the other queues telling the adsp where your buffers are and asking it to start dma transfers. Now you send a proc_comm command to say which audio path to use. After this the adsp cause an interrupt when the buffers need filling and it plays your sound. When it has finished you send some more rpc messages to shut the thing down. Luckily the latest android kernel has some of this built in but all the queue numbers and some of the rpc commands are different.
I'm a programmer myself, but since I have almost no Linux experience, it would be hard for me to do it myself. Maybe Balsat can focus on the audio? Or who is currently working on it?

okay. so this thread is 260+ pages long and i don't have the time to read through every single page! I read to page 50 and it said that Android cannot run on the htc touch diamond yet (p3700). So i want to know is it done yet. Can you please post on how to do it and provide download links.
I don't care about the calling thing or whatever. All i need is wifi, internet, and that is about it.
im using Rogers HTC Touch Diamond (p3700) with rom version 1.93.631.8 WWE

Just read the title "Linux and Android on HTC Diamond 'NOT YET WORKING'" if it were working it would probably be different("not yet working" would be replaced by "working"). Stop being lazy and skim through the whole thing. If it wasn't for people like you that are lazy and don't read the entire thread would not be so long. If you're going to post you should post useful information up, or insightful questions that have to do with the current progress. I am seriously tired of reading the same questions over and over. I feel bad posting this message because i am not adding anything useful to the thread, but you have to understand that you can't just go around asking the same questions that have already been answered several times before, it's just wasting people's time. I've been reading this post since page 1 because I am really interested in the outcome. I hadn't posted anything here until today because all my concerns have been answered in previous posts. If you actually care about what is being developed, stop being so anxious. Be patient, these developers have been putting in countless hours of work into this, and the more useless questions they have to answer only slows down their progress. Just be patient, it will be completed eventually, and trust me 260+ pages is really not that much.

I'm running it on the Diamond very well, there's just two basic things that don't work - sound and internet. I have no sound at all (message when booting about some error with the sound thing) and on the browser i canīt open any page.
I have network (i can make and receive calls) and send and receive sms. I've also imported the contacts from the SIM, and all kinds of stuff.
Nice work guys, keep it going, i dream with the day when i can remove WM 6.1 from my diamond and use only Android :)

Since 2662 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3500084&postcount=2662) is my fav palindrome number ;) and I've refrained from posting here (till now) I thought I’d say a few words / ask a couple of Questions...
1. Bump (keep this thread in the first page - shouldn't this thread be pinned?)
2. What is the activity on the development of Android for the HTC Diamond like - is it bustling / fast paced or slow & steady away (i don't mean to be presumptuous honest gov I know the sound issue is a tad complimicated!)
3. What are your personal feelings on Android - its capabilities, layout, responsiveness, consistency, features, future, Application development ease/difficulties etc? (People who are familiar with WM, WM+TF3d AND Android please reply with honest Pros/Cons and unbiased answers please.)
My reasoning...
I have followed this thread quietly for over 6 months now & having tried a few builds - I gotta say (pretty much like MAC OS / KDE / Gnome - all of which I try every few months) it seems a little "hmmmmmm" and a bit "well..." to me! Am I missing something? is Android the greatest phone OS to date?
PS
DEVs I truly respect your abilities and REALLY want this project to fully succeed - I WANT TO RUN FULL ANDROID (which dev / hacker / Smartphone tinkerer wouldn't) so don't take this as a put down - i really wanna know what it is about Android that makes you all tick enough to put the enormous effort in to get it going on our beloved Jewels.

Hi!
To me, Android combines the things I love about Windows Mobile with the things I actually enjoyed with the iPhone OSX. Windows Mobile has some great functionality along with a great amount of usefull applications which truly unlocks the full power of a mobile phone. On the other hand, it feels and looks quite dated and here Android comes in.
Android, a operating system for mobile phones that was designed from the ground up for being finger friendly. No more need for a stylus for example and we can throw in capacative touch screens as well.
The iPhone has the same advantage off course, but since Apple is controlling EVERYTHING related to the market apps and what users can use the iPhones for, the whole iPhone experience is kinda limiting.. That combined with the fact that it doesnt even have multi-tasking, the iPhone can hardly be called a smartphone.
Android on the other hand is based on Linux and is Open Source. While it is still young, the Market already have some truly amazing apps, and is truly an "internet phone OS".
So yeah, I think Android is the best operating system for Mobile phone out there, and it will become so much more within a year as well. (Cupcake, new phones, better availibility, even more and better 3rd part apps)!
;)
Oh, and I almost forgot the mention the FANTASTIC intergration with Google services such as Gmail, Calendar and Contacts. You get a true push experience. The moment a new email hits your gmail inbox, it gets synced down to your phone as well. Same goes for calendar events and contacts too... I love it and I cant really go back to the old polled solution along with wired sync. (USB-cable + ActiveSync)

Internet on HTC diamond/raphael has been working for a couple of month now trow USBnet
On the mobile you have to setup a dns server with the command "setprop net.dns1 208.67.222.222" and "setprop net.dns2 208.67.220.220" for a second dns sever.
On the host side(Computer running linux) you have to turn on masquerade with
"echo "1" > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward" and "iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o eth0 -j MASQUERADE"

The file you have downloaded is for a partition install, you need this file (http://balsat.servehttp.com/index.php?dir=Android-19mar-09/&file=Android-images.tar.gz), extract the "tmp" dir to your "internal storage".
run "internal storage/tmp/haret.exe, and once haret popup press the "run" button!

android is not a permanent install at this point in time. when you close android windows mobile is there waiting for you. so you can fiddle around with what theyve done for android, and use the tv-out via windows mobile.

Thanks for the fast replay.
The point I don't know is what happens if you start Android.
For example: If there is a incomming call there is no pop up for windows (or am I wrong) if Android is running. That's why I think there is no actions made by Windows. And that why I'm not sure if I can use the TV out to show the Android view even if I started TV output before starting Android.
Or am I wrong?

This is how it works:
When you launch haret and run it, it shuts down Windows Mobile completely before booting into a Linux environment and then starts up Android. This means that Windows Mobile isnt running in the background at all.
Regarding wether or not the TV output will work in Android, all I can really say is that it wont work as of yet. I would reckon you would need to write a Android app for that. To be honest though, its not really high priority getting TV-OUT working :)
Hope that cleared things up!
Kind Regards

Hi,
I'd like to run this thing with an "original" Qualcomm 7200A development device currently running WinMob.
I suppose that this device is quite close to the Diamond (and it has a VGA screen...).
Where can I start ?
If I try to start the "package" as is, is starts to boot and hangs in :
console handover: boot [htc_fb-1] ->real [tty0]
While the script file contains:
set mtype 2039
set kernel zImage
set initrd root.cpiogz
set ramsize 0x6000000
set ramaddr 0x10000000
set cmdline "root=/dev/ram0 init=/init console=tty0 mem=76M msmsdcc_id=3 imgdevname=/dev/mmcblk0p1 imgdevnum=1 imgdir=/tmp msmts_calib=0x81.0x393.0x358.0x7D msmvkeyb_toggle=hide"

The Android porting project has been a bit slow recently. After some analysis I have narrowed down one of the key reasons for this being the fact that its been hard for new developers to join the project as documentation on current progress is lacking.
Therefore, after some discussion with others, a development section has been set up over at htc-android.com.
Its important to stress that the reason for creating the section is due to the fact that the topic over at XDA is flooded with unncessary posts and we dont have any other place that really discusses the matter.. The porting of Android to the HTC Diamond and Raphael is something that is difficult to fully coordinate in one forum topic. Therefore, in order for it to work this time, I hope that people can keep posting in the proper forums and not spam the development forums with questions such as "Does it work yet?" "When will it work?", etc..

What about locking normal users out of the forum, only being able to view the topics? I mean... If somebody wants to help out with the development, he/she probably already made contact to you guys. And by doing so you know what user to add permission to write in the forum.
But I'm glad that you're able to eliminate this Achilles heal, without much of a pain. :)

There should be no need to lock anyone out of anything. Everyone who wants to contribute should be more than welcomed to do so :)

Hi,
I'd like to run this thing with an "original" Qualcomm 7200A development device currently running WinMob.

Hi RR,
Do you have any documentation for the dev device? One of the problems in getting Android sound working is lack of knowledge about the ARM9 core. Maybe you have something useful?

If I eventually wanted to put Android on my HTC, which phone do you think would be better? Raphael or Diamond? Or are they so similar that it doesn't matter?
Just curious because I'm thinking about updating my Vogue to one of those. I've been trying to gauge the development-side of both phones and am having a hard time judging.

The answer to the first question is the same whatever operating system you have, the diamond is a slimmer Raphael without a keyboard and slightly different memory / storage. Your choice is based on hardware alone, not the OS.
The development is the same on both - it doesn't work, as mentioned in the title.

Android runs much better on the Vogue than on the Raphael or Diamond :)

So i've searched, and read this forum and the forum on htc-android, and also hit up the irc channel on freenode to get help with this.
The general consensus is that my Diamond (DIAM110) for some reason has the internal storage formatted as an extended/logical partition instead of a primary partition. I'm told that's what the errors mean as seen in the snapshot i took: http://www.flickr.com/photos/smesser/3408587152/
So, per my post here: http://htc-android.com/viewtopic.php?p=1214#p1214, I've tried reformatting the internal storage to be a primary partition (windows xp's computer management shows that it is a primary partition, however, diskpart nor with EASEUS Partition Tool Home Edition would see the internal storage to let me partition it with those tools, for some reason it doesn't see a removable disk as a partition that can be set as primary or what not.
I'm using the latest build 02-22-09 and 02-22-09-ALTERNATE from Edvard's Connect-UTB site.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

But is there something we as normal users can do? :)
The best thing we can probably do as normal users is just not make any posts which don't contribute to the Android project. Theres nothing I can see that a normal user would be able to do to actually help. But if we don't post it makes it easier for the developers to find the things they are looking for and not clog up the thread ;)

Can those images be booted with Haret? The two builds present are for Intel processors, not ARM.
I always thought Ubuntu MID Ed was intended for netbooks and the like, not PPCs.

Try a couple of times, there is still some issues with the kernel, sometimes it hangs doing boot.

I can confirm the hanging at the boot logo... It is however a fine logo...
I hangs.. blinks.. and hangs some more.. I have tried it three times now.. and I did do a soft reset after I had transfered the files to my phone.. But nevermind.. It'll probably be fixed in a new build, sometime in the future.
Edit: With ActiveSync on and off... with the cable plugged in and without it plugged in... I'm trying build 06-04-09 in a sec. I will be letting you guys know if it's any good, getting past the boot logo.
Edit2: Yeah that worked a lot better. I kinda missed the new logo though. I'm glad that you have implemented a battery status reader, or what ever it's called. You know.. That little thing by the Network status that tells how much power you got left on your cellular. A little thing that troubled me though, was that it looked like the battery was getting drained very quickly. I believe it looked like the battery status reader thingy was loosing bars rapidly... But I might just as well have seen the first bar dissapearing and then imagined the rest! :D

I have a diamond 500. It's a telus cdma touch diamond. The partitions on it are somewhat different than what appears to be on the cdma sprint and gsm versions of the phone. Atm all my data exists in an extended partition inside a primary partition sdd0/5 mmcblk0p5?. I haven't seemed to find a way to set up the default.txt to be able to auto mount the sd card but I was talking to lavender.t about it and
i think one way is to have mdev -s detect your partition automatically and then we make it into init. what you can do is, after boot:
mkdir /proc
mkdir /sys
mount -t proc proc /proc
mount -t sysfs sysfs /sys
mount -t tmpfs tmpfs /dev
mdev -s
after running the above, do a "ls -l /dev/mmc*". this should have the mmcblk0p? with the correct minor code. and you should be able to mount on that device.
This allowed me to mount my sd card no problem and then manually mount the images although atm it seems that I'm not able to use the on screen keyboard in the android image on my phone, there is no input in the command prompt when I try and type it and I'm too lazy to reboot to *nix just to test out some android image that doesn't even work on my phone.
Should work for mounting all sd cards on all versions of diamonds. I have seen 1 or 2 people saying they were having the same trouble as I. Not sure if you would want this on the wiki, it's good for testers but I'm sure there's a *nix manpage for it as lavender.t might have just directed me to if he weren't such a nice guy.
Edit:
As far as my sd card, I recently upgraded to windows 7 and I can't repartition the mmc w/windows 7, I think vista was letting me but it isn't really important. I used parted/gparted and removed all partitions from the card and then rebooted the phone letting the phone partition and format the card and it comes back as mmcblk0p5 every time. I've tried using gparted to remove the partition replacing it w/1 primary partition that would contain all my data making it the "default" mmcblk0 but the card isn't detected at all in winmo and is also not being passed along to windows 7 when I plug the phone into my computer when the card is partitioned as such. I can recreate the same structure using gparted and have winmo/win7 recognize it.

my device is DIAM500, a CDMA diamond of sprint.
after some research, i downloaded Untouchab1e's package "android-diam100-20090222-ALTERNATE.rar"
and i unzipped the folder "tmp" to my "internal storage" root
i found the mtype for DIAM500 is 2040 in the wiki, so i changed default.txt 's configuration to "set mtype 2040", then i try to run the application, and surely i got an error of "mounting /dev/mmcblk0 on mmc failed", and the system was hang.
after that, i revert the configuration to default "set mtype 1805", and i successfully make my diamond running with a messed up color shown and a messed up screen tapping. but finally it works.
my question is, is there a mtype 2040 for DIAM500 device or not?
BTW, the project is fantastic, thanks you guys the excellent work!:D

I believe the color fix was applied a bit later than when that version was build.
You should try a newer build from http://balsat.servehttp.com/ ... afaik there's some problems with the builds done in April, so you should try a build from late March out instead.
Oh and read the wiki.. I believe theres something about the color fix in there. :)
Edit: Balsat, that didn't work. I tried it with the 06-04-09 build. Did a soft reset. Put it into ActiveSync (dno if that's possible on Ubuntu though). It hangs at the bootloader screen, right after the two vibrations the phone makes in the beginning, with all that text that is complete nonsense to most people. :)

I reported that the 2040 mtype doesn't mount the internal storage properly. It hasn't been fixed yet though.
A few things I tried:
Change mtype to 2040. I got the same error as you.
Copy the MMC configuration for GSM phones to CDMA phones and recompile. I got to the Android boot screen, but after loading for a few seconds, my phone shut down.
Copy the color fix from the CDMA phones to GSM phones and recompile. Set mtype to 1805 for DIAM100 and it runs, but of course, this solution isn't viable.

Did you read my previous post? Changing the mtype in the default.txt and then passing mmcblk0p1 as your mmc when your mmc is actually mmcblk0p5 is going to cause the same error regardless. I posted a solution that was provided for me by lavender.t when I ran into the same issue months ago on the last page. I'll toss it up on the wiki as well as it is seems to be the only solution I can find atm since if I pass mmcblk0p5 in default.txt I still get errors for some reason. I would put money on it that a user more familiar w/linux could tell me what I'm doing wrong and even write a script that would do what needs to be done here to auto detect and mount the correct partitions regardless of device. This is a problem w/user input and not understanding the os not being able to mount a partition because it's on sda1 and not sdb1 like is typed out in fstab.
i think one way is to have mdev -s detect your partition automatically and then we make it into init. what you can do is, after boot:
mkdir /proc
mkdir /sys
mount -t proc proc /proc
mount -t sysfs sysfs /sys
mount -t tmpfs tmpfs /dev
mdev -s
after running the above, do a "ls -l /dev/mmc*". this should have the mmcblk0p? with the correct minor code. and you should be able to mount on that device.
Where he types "this should have the mmcblk0p? with the correct minor code and you should be able to mount on that device." the ? = the minor code. In my case it's mmcblk0p5. So after running "mdev -s" I would "ls -l mmcblk" and it would list all mmc devices. You could fdisk mmcblk0 and print out the partition table which would tell you what partition you should be mounting etc and then "mount -t ?vfat? mmcblk0p?" (I think it's vfat, might be msdos etc, man mount for more info) where ? is your correct minor code for the partition on your mmc in your device. In my case I tried setting my partition info in default.txt to mmcblk05 but I still come up with the error messages that the partition and therefore images cannot be found. I see in the log that the device is detect but for some reason w/out a little user input it isn't mounted correctly. Anyways, I added this to the wiki under the device info.
The issue w/screwed up taps is setting screen calibration in your default.txt. As far as I know this information doesn't need to be passed and if passing it causes your screen to be calibrated incorrectly wouldn't it make more sense to remove the calibration info and manually click the 2 dots on the screen when you get to that point? ^^

so ive been at this for over 4hours now on something I expected to take 4 min.
I cant get android installed on my vogue (bell). if i try the CAB file i get "installation of the cab file was unsuccessful" if i try placing the files (in the root, outside the root, in a folder, some in some out, if you look hard enough you will find every opinion the the issue) and when i try and run Haret.exe i get an error indicating its certificates are not trusted.
Ive formatted the sd card, ive hard rebooted, soft rebooted, reformatted the card and so on. I've run out of ideas. please help ive looked at probably hundreds of posts on your forums, to no avail.... yet
