Might be the poor reception. Alltough, on the first boot with the 1.09.25.23 radio, the simptomes were as i described them in my previous post, now, on the second and third boot i dont get any edge icon.
I'll try the 1.13.25.24 radio, and go out of my girlfriends house and try outside, beacuse they really have a nasty reception here (but in wm gprs is running smooth...). Well...will see :)

Something went wrong with this build and my DIAM100.
Loopt crashes on his own a few minutes after boot.
Not only there's no sound, but launching any application (music player or ring tone config, for example) that uses sound freezes the system.
Many "vital" programs crash too, such as touchscreen callibration.
Are there any log/debug/info I could provide to help you guys solve those problems?
I've spent a few hours trying different zImage versions, boot params and even system.img, to no avail. Finally I updated my ROM from v1.93 to 2.03 SPA and that did the trick. Not only loopt is not crashing anymore, sound (and sound-related apps) works perfectly. Yay!
Hope it helps somebody.

Please some help:
I've installed 09-06-09 Tac-Pack and hit HaRET.exe and started Andriod without any modifications in startup.txt.
Everythings looks great but didn't had any internet connection of course, so i copy paste this txt file as default.txt:
set mtype 1910
set kernel zImage
set initrd initrd.gz
set ramsize 0x6000000
set ramaddr 0x10000000
set cmdline "root=/dev/ram0 init=/ console=tty0 mem=76M msmsdcc_id=3 zmgdevname=/dev/mmcblk0p1 imgdevnum=1 imgdir=/ msmts_calib=0x6D.0x5D.0x340.0x375 clock-7x00.a11=528 ppp.apn=live.vodafone.com ppp.username=vodafone ppp.password=vodafone lcd.density=185 msmvkeyb_toggle=off"
boot
but then i couldn't start Andoid anymore. I even deleted all files and copy the original back to my storage card but it doesn't boot anymore.
Only thing i see is the progressbar of starting haret... and then screen freezes, no booting android, nothing.
I have a touch pro (raph100) and have vodafone as moneycollector uhh provider :D
what can i change?
PS my startup.txt
set RAMSIZE 0x06000000
set MTYPE 1910
set KERNEL zImage
set initrd initrd.gz
set cmdline "msmts_calib=0x6D.0x5D.0x340.0x375 msmvkeyb_toggle=off mddi.width=320 mddi.height=480 lcd.density=240 ppp.apn=live.vodafone.com ppp.username=vodafone ppp.password=vodafone"
boot

Maybe the partition on your sdcard is an extended partition. I konw mine is and it produces te same error.
At this time android does not boot with an extended partition.
I think we need to clean up the initrd. We should remove the static device creation, and change it back to the automatic creation with mdev -s, which is displayed in the wiki.
i'll post a new one once it is finished.
thank you man.
you were right, i checked my partition and it was extended so i formatted it as the primary partition and now its up and running.
whats working:
audio - working
mic & speaker - working
edge - working (india, airtel)
bluetooth - not working
wifi - not working
camera - partially
gps - not working
i am using TaC pac 090609 (themed version).
very smooth and shiny.

Next step for me is to improve battery and related.

Awesome work everyone! Worked flawlessly on my Raph100. I havent gotten GPRS working yet but I will play around with the guide I found a few pages back.
Ive collected a few various startup.txt configs and thrown together two packages and published them over at connect-utb.com.
I have to do some upgrade work on the download system as the download counter has stopped working. I will just leave it untill tomorrow though so enjoy ;)
Now I want to figure out how to get Android running equally good on the Touch Pro 2!

Bah, I'm giving up on data... Having to wait 15 seconds for every command to start and everything timing out and not responding sucks. I'd rather have a fast OS than the ability to maybe download a few kbs every hours. >_<
EDIT: GAH! I just installed the 090609 image and I can't get past the pattern thing. The touchscreen isn't working.. >_<

At this rate, we'll have to change the topic name for this very soon... get rid of the "not yet working" bit!! :D
I think the only thing that is really holding me back in using it every day is the battery life. I can cope without bluetooth, wifi, accelerometer etc for a little while, but I need the phone to last at least 20 hours or so.
By the way, has anyone tested MMS? I assume that will require data connection configuration stuff tho. And I don't use it that much anyway. Just it doesn't seem to have been mentioned lately.

Open up the menu tab>Dev Tools
In there select Media scanner, this tool will then rescan and load up your media.
From what i've experienced you need to keep retrying it a couple of time until the message changes.

I'm very surprised that the project progress finally, it thought that it was abandonned.
I would like to know if one day this project works fine, will it possible to do a ROM under android or it won't be possible?

Please stop asking for an Android rom, its not the problem at this time, for the moment the major work its making drivers for all stuff on the diamond. After that a lot of optimisation will be necessary.

No luck with the 1.09.25.23 also. Now the edge icon is on constantly, and modem app says it's connected. But browser doesn't load any page, i can't sign in with a google account and if i ping my phone IP from my computer i get a 100% loss.
@RationalGaze
Thanks for trying and letting us know.
(Important!!! If you get a connection but it disconnects and connects, its probably due to your location. Try your connection outside or near metropolitan areas. Its not to you not following the guide correctly ;)
@babijoee
After having tried three different places in "metropolitan" Sydney, I cannot confirm this.
The signal strength bars were 3 out of 4 in Android. Sometimes even better in WM. I could get the G/3G symbol, and in the modem I sometimes could also see my IP address etc. But absolutely no luck with accessing anything on the Internet from Android...
But thanks once again for all your help and efforts :)

When you go back to the home screen it goes back to portrait but, so far Menus, SMS/keyboard & notifications work fine :) (It's the only things I have used)

Running on a DIAM100 on Orange UK
I ran the TaC build a few times, very nice. Got GPRS working too.
When I ran it today (maybe 3rd time), it seems to have done a hard reset on the phone - or something similar.
All my settings in winmo were gone, including contacts, messages, calendar etc. The phone booted into setup.
Just a heads up to people: back up important stuff before running the betas!

It's a miracle! My GPRS is working. I'm at home, with loads of reception (it isn't 3G but f*** it, it's something :D). Well, looks like it was the receptions fault (but i aint betting on that).
But i have to mention one more thing. My service provider has sepperate settings for data connecion and MMS connection. And while I was reading an online tutorial I noticed, that you have to add 'default' as APN type option (thats for data, for MMS you have to add another APN and it's type has to be MMS). Don't know if that makes any difference, but mine works now...

You need to make sure the files are places in the root directory on your storage card or internal storage (for diamond). Meaning no more "tmp" folder or anything.. Just place the files in the root directory!

I don't think you need to set any APN settings for Sprint. I don't think the CDMA radio is supported yet in the Raph/Diamond builds. On the Touch and Mogul you didn't need to put in and APN settings and data worked fine.

I'm loving Android!! It's so much faster than WM doing most things! I'm getting used to the different locations for everything, but I'll get there :)

I need some people willing to help me test some things :D
Both Diamond and Raph users
Install the raph/diam beta builds from connect-utb
Diamond:
http://connect-utb.com/index.php?option=com_rokdownloads&view=file&task=download&id=27:android-for-htc-touch-diamond-beta
Raph:
http://connect-utb.com/index.php?option=com_rokdownloads&view=file&task=download&id=26:android-for-htc-touch-pro-beta
And try to run the API Demo>Graphics>OpenGLes
Mainly i've been getting black screens, crashes and even the phone shutting off.
I was able to get it running once, and it ran beautifully. hw3d acceleration.
If you have run the tests in the past, you will notice that it was slow, laggy and lagged even more when you pressed the screen. Now its has no effect and runs smmmoooooth. :D
Then i was thinking how the GPRS connection works so i did remember playing xtrakt earlier in the day and then decided to try connect-utb new builds.
To my amazement it worked. So i just need some other people to confirm this.
Boot into WM and run a game that uses opengles such as xtrakt or COD. can't think of any others and then quit the game and launch haret and try the Opengles tests.
Please report you're finding and your device/type :D
I believe this can help the development, by seeing what HW needs to be activated in WM to work in android. :)
EDIT: NEOCORE NOW WORKS AND LOOOKS SO F@$#ING GOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Test results for neocore are as follow
Raphael
No sound = 18.3 FPS
With Sound = 16.3 FPS
Diamond:
No sound = untested
With Sound = untested
officia Dream device
no sound = averaging 22fps - 25fps
with Sound = couldnt find
On a side note, after doing this i have noticed that android is alot more stable. Could be placebo, but yeah would love to hear what other people have experienced

Just tried it now and.....
This is AWESOME!
Truly incredible progress!
I'm liking it better than WM already, can't wait till we get wifi ready (and hopefully, the widgets in Sense UI)
Also, just to note, I cannot recalibrate the screen within android. Though it is usable, it isn't exactly accurate.

Since the first dzo diamond zimage, open gl ES hardware acceleration has been working, i ran neocore, armadillo and mystic on that first zimage.
note: there's no need to run any open gl es game on wm, in order to have open gl es hardware acceleration on android, and btw if you want for this aplications to always execute use a 1.5 cubcake build not themed, they will work always, and 1.5 cupcake not themed is way faster than the themed 1.5 cupcake build's, on our diamonds/raphs.

Just tested on my Diamond, the OpenGL ES demos work very well, except for the 'Translucent GLSurfaceView', which didn't run.
When I showed the running android diamond to my 10-years-old boy, he asked: "is there any game to play?" I replied: "yeah, I think there is a game called 'snake'". Then he said "oh..." and turned away...
I have a dumb question: I saw a "AndroidApps" folder contains "Bejeweled.apk" application, how can I open it in Android?
Thanks a lot for the amazing diamond-android!

Hrmmm going to try this for myself.
As for the themed version, i have tested it thoroughly and android will not run those test or even load neocore. Only after running an opengl game in WM then booting into Android does it let those things run
Btw what kinds of FPS scores are you getting for no sound and with sound in neocore?

Hi.. i have a diamond from o2 germany (diam 300?!?! but everybody just talks about 100 and 500)
Android looks stable and really fast for me with the pack from connect-utb (thx for that, really great work)
OpenGLes works fine and smooth,
but i don't know how to show the fps at the tests ??
I only see 33fps (stable) in the "Sprite Text".
"Translucent GLSurfaceView" does't run.
_____________________________________________
The thing that doesnt work for me is GPRS/3G...
Don't get a data connection...
Perhaps i've choosen the wrong APN settings for o2-germany (but i think i nearly tried every possible setting i've found in the net)...
Does the phone have to transfer data during startup of haret or should data connection should just be enabled?
(doesn't find a programm that transfers data long enough for that.. i always have UMTS and data is transferred to fast ..)

Thx a lot for this work !!!

Ah sorry, I was jut referring to Android in general
For OpenGL ES, they all work except 'Translucent GLSurfaceView'
How can I test neocore?
Quick question though. How do I get back to home screen? The home button just brings up the menu.... and the back button only goes back to the previous process.
Oh and one more. If I want to set the language/locale to something other than the ones listed (Korean), do I need to build an img from scratch? Though there seems to be no problem with Korean output..... (input is another matter since there is no official Android device in Korea yet)
Concerning the UI, while most of the UI looks pretty good despite the fact that there are currently no VGA Android devices (when will we see them I wonder...), I can see some large pixels on some elements (analog clock widget for example).
For this, hopefully HTC will release some higher res android devices in the future.

Same here. Also got the DIAM300 and tried many different things.
But still I had no luck at all accessing the internet (even when having the G/3G symbol).

# board-htcvogue.panel_type - Panel type used to power the panel off and on
# 0=Don't power off the panel (Default)
# 1=Hitachi 2=Topoly 3=Samsung
# mddi.width - width of the scaled display
# mddi.height - height of the scaled display (these should be multiples of 16 for the camera to work I think)

Yeah, I use a couple-line hack so that MMC works when mtype=2040, but android still doesn't boot. I just get the white screen and android is in an infinite loop trying to start, but crashing. SurfaceFlinger, power, batteryinfo, usagestats, and telephony.registry all die, which is why it can't boot.
Android worked on diam500 at the beginning of the summer, so I'm going to start reversing kernel changes and try figure out what it was.
Also, I can successfully load the wifi driver, but I can't test it because I can't boot android.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=RSNHPETV
- Based in mssmison's squashfs adaptation of xrom1.4r3.
- Includes last DZO's kernel and last rootfs
- Added a few apps i like.
- Delete all files related to android (but folders) from root of storage.
- Copy all files in the pack, only change startup.txt if you need it.
- Be patient at first boot
- If you get an unresponsive screen or Android gets locked at startup, use zimage_old instead of zimage.
- Don't use wallpaper gallery to change wallpaper. Use images in sdcard instead.
- You may get random locks, sorry, i haven't a solution yet.
- All credits go to dzo, vilord and mssmison. Thanks enatefox for some tips.

Question, I am not blind, but during Android inside a dark screen, it very light shows 'menu' and 'contacts' softkeys from windows mobile at (seen this ONCE!). YES! Thank you very much for a new ROM.
Using it on a Raph100.
So here's what I know right now.
3G - no go, used same method to set up, APNs etc. Don't work this time for me.
Android boots in to headset mode.
The menus is significantly faster (me like very very much!), but home screen is very slow, and having difficulties deleting icons etc... The touch screen is unresponsive from time to time ex: Can't use the dialpad during a call..
But its looking great!! Love the new rom regardless!!
EDIT: Having difficulties scrolling, it don't seem to want to, instead opens the first icon I manage to touch..
EDIT2: Repeated the APN process got some kind of connectivity, but it jumps on and off from the 3G (I'm 300meters in sight from basestation, so it's not bad coverage).

Also, after some third and fourth try I now got a stable 3G connection :D
EDIT: Screen sensitivity got much better after the reboot.
EDIT2: Only got a stable 3G once, now system crashed, black screen and nothing is responsive =)
The best is how fast the menues and thing is, will try the zimage_old and see what happens =)
EDIT3: With the old kernel, the scrolling works, and menus still is fast.. But best is a stable 3G :)

I'm on a RAPH800, on Bell Mobility in Canada.
First off, none of the builds or startup.txts provided in the new builds work for me. I snagged the mtype and msmts_calib lines from an earlier build on Connect-UTB specifically for the RAPH800.
Then it booted, except as soon as the UI loaded it decided I have 0% battery and immediately shut down.
So then I booted with USB cable. This time it booted fine and didn't auto-shutdown.
I don't have this phone's ESN activated at the moment (using a Vogue with Android instead). So I'm waiting until this project matures just a bit more before re-activating. Anyone that's used a Vogue knows how much better the specs and general hardware are on the Raphael. Nothing against the Vogue, it's just QVGA and old and meh-ish.
That being said, it's still faster than the Raph on WM. Raphael with Android is what I want, and from what I can tell it's blazing fast.
I'll post more results once I activate the phone.
Edit: Biggest ball-breaker is that the slide-out hardware keyboard isn't working, and (along with that) I can't figure out how to rotate the screen.

Here we go. New bundle.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=RSNHPETV
Please, if you use or mirror this pack, give credits to those who deserve it.
Hi,

From there I started the haret.exe and it's loading since 10 minutes and there are some numbers and a text. It looks like this "[ 2929.2615698] msmfb_start_dma 105.652 ms after vsync request". The first number is always counting up and I'm waiting and waiting ... it seems not to end. Can somebody help me ?

Settings > About Phone > Contributors (then either wait or close it).
When you go back to the home screen it goes back to portrait but, so far Menus, SMS/keyboard & notifications work fine :) (It's the only things I have used)
I know a few if not most of you knew that but it's cool to me :o lol.

Not that has been reported as of yet. I'm going to remain patient, as I hope to be able to keep my $30 SERO plan on Sprint with Android on my TP, as it looks like they're going to force you to upgrade your legacy plan and pay twice as much per month to get the same features with their HTC Hero phone.
Eff that, but I've been waiting for Android on Sprint since the OHA formed, so it's really hard. Kudos to the dev team for accomplishing so much in the past couple of weeks!!
I'm hoping the CDMA stuff that Google released a few weeks back will eventually help out us CDMA users.

Diamond 100 here, it's says it's a fsck, but i kinda doubt it could run for this long... the 4Gb internal storage isn't that bad...
Anyone could boot this latest package sucessfuly using the regular zImage ? i might try with the old one...
EDIT: Confirmed, old zImage works fine and booted without issues...
By the way for the less up to date don't use a tmp folder in storage card anymore, files should be on the root of the internal storage in Diamond.

Hi all,
First of all, thanks for this great project! :)
I see that a loot of people have problem with mounting internal card (on Diamond), and they get the error:
"mount:mounting /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 on /sdcard failed: InvaFailed
Failed to mount the SD card.cannot continue.
/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off
This is because the Internal card is set to logical partition, and not to primary partition.
A sollution is to use the Diskpart program thats included in Win7 & Vista.
1. Type "cmd" in start meny.
2. Type "diskpart" in command.
3. Type "list disk" (this shows all the available disks, your internal card should come up as a 3,5 GB disk. If it dosnt come up, then the Diamnod USB-settup is wrong. Try turning of activesync.
4. "Select disk x" (where x is the Diamond)
5. "List partition"
6. "Select partition X" (where x is the internal storage)
7. "Delete partitione"
8. "Make partitione primary"
9. "Exit"
10. "Exit"
Note that when I listed my partitions on my Diamond, it showed 2 partitions each with 3.5 GB. So I had to select & delete them both before I could make the primary partition (you have to do point 6&7 twice).
Now you need to Format the card to FAT32 before copying the files to the root of the card.
And please, be SHURE thats its your internal disk and NOT the computer disk you select as this will likely f... up your computer! :p
Hope this helps ppl!

With old zimage the build 0909 of utb works.

Looking forward to a working version for my diam300 with 3g and better Power Management :>

Add this in set cmdline in startup.txt:

I like it that way.
Battery has random drops, which causes the device to shutdown. The application is very stable, connectu-utb's android-diamond-20090807-BETA.rar is what I talk about.
Had it on for 16 hours, emailing, chatting, browsing. It was connected to power, and gets quite warm the whole time, but it works like a charm.
Anyone an idea about those winmo softkeys appearing? Is HAret unloading windows allright ánd can it be the reason of stableness?

Im thinking a basic WM 6.1 rom ultra light with haret loading on start up would be cool.

The nand driver works, so you can flash your linux ROM,

LOL, the "classical" xda-dev rom cooking was about adding features to ROMs, and now you want to strip everything non-boot related from it ? :D

Only thing is that processes like downloading SMS and receiving calls should be disabled under WM, so that we won't download anything to our WM before Haret gets loaded, thus making us unable to open/read it from Android.

I don't think so.
What is the reason, the connection should be established?
Is it that linux detects the right hardware settings? When it happened once, it could be hardcoded, I mean the state after detection / working hardware could be saved.

There is a solution, just read a few pages back.
I noticed something strange. When setting my apn, it didn't work until I entered my apn NAME (that thing, that should be irrelevant) exactly the same as it is, when i auto detect gprs settings in WM. So when i had "simobil" or "simobil gprs" or "simobil internet" it didn't work. The connection was constantly redialing. When I entered "si.mobil GPRS" it started working like a charm.
So, if for any of you guys (or girls) the data connection still isn't working, try to set the NAME exactly the same as it auto configures itself in WM. It worked for me, but I have absolutely no logical explanation why...

Time to sticky?
Why should it be sticky?
I think everyone knows about this thread, if they need something, they'll look after it. And if there's an update, it will be posted here, by witch the thread will automatically go up.
I think there's no need to sticky this thread.
Sorry for the offtopic post.

Freakolowsky, no need to wait :) Android is already running pretty stable and is already a lot of fun to have on your raph ;) I am already spending more time in android than i am in WM (well, i'm in android until it "dies" due to poor battery management, then i switch to WM, which still show about 40% of battery).
Plus, it's a fun thing watching the development of android on your own phone ;)

Indeed it's very cool to see the progress. Actually it would be very nice if we could use apptodate or something similar to directly update android when there's a new version out.
Really not important, but it would be cool and usefull though.

No, you can't start wifi...yet. would be very nicevif people would read a bit more than just the first and the last page.
Btw, has anyone noticed their device getting rather hot while using android? Could it be beacuse the always on gprs connection? My diam100 gets hot using android, even if idle in that leather pouch in my pocket. Well...its hot even idling on my desk. And i mean hot as being warm :P

Yes, is soo hot that you can frie eggs... xD
But it's not because of the constant gprs connection, 'cause I don't use it and my diam100 is realy hot 2.

I would not call it overheating, but sure, while using the 090609 release the phone was very hot. Even a bit hotter while using wlan i WM with no power saving.
But I have not seen this issue with the latest release.
EDIT: Well, this heating I've got came after activating the 3G connection, and I'm using a Raph100.

I just got power collapse working, this means the apps CPU is completely powered down when it goes to sleep and should give lots of power savings. There are still some things that don't power down (panel and microp) but power should be better.
Get the latest diamond kernel from here:

Amazing, will try it right away!! I "knew" that it was good to stay up checking this forum
UPDATE: Boots up and everything is as it was last time I tested it. Will try tomorrow and see how good the battery is compared to the 090609 version (managed 5h30min with a 45min call with in that time).
Now i've got a 3g connection, but cant fetch data off it :)
UPDATE2: Hmmmmm now this is new. I left the raph on the table for 10 mins without touching it. Now it wont get back to life, it does not react to any input at all.. But still seems to be powered on... :)

I have a Diam100 and the 12/09 image works, the battery knows its being charged (even without having charger in when booting) however it was unstable when trying to answer incoming calls and the buttons just failed to work 2 out of 3 times. So back to TaC's package (with 0609zimage) which is working well.

hmm, you're right... I reset a couple of times - and finaly got passed the screen lock! :D
Now I've configured it to use a pattern to unlock - for some reason that seems to run better!
Another question:
I've been trying to get usb networking to work... But no luck so far...
(Kernel 2.6.30)
I've made sure I have the usbnet module - but what else do I need?
When re-plugging the USB cable nothing is found... (according to dmesg).
So, what do I need to usbnet to work?

Uhm.. I can't really help you there. If I remember correctly Jobo wrote a smaller guide on the issue a couple of hundred pages ago. Like finding a needle in a haystack. One thing I can ask you to try, is to have the USB cable plugged into your phone on boot. I know that's the only way we are able to recharge our phones, so it might provide a helping hand in order to get USBNet working.

On Diamond, by default USB is used for adb (android debug), not usbnet. Add this into your kernel cmdline: "board-htcdiamond.adb=0" to disable adb and enable usbnet. Also, at boot you need to bring up the usb interface: "ifconfig usb0 192.168.0.206 up" would enable it with an IP address of 192.168.0.206.

Having tested the new kernel today, it is nice!
I am getting battery warnings all the time, and it did shut down automatically once. I'm getting less home screen crashes now, and the 3G is even stable now, but 3g is very weird(unstable from boot to boot...
Actually I have managed to install several apps from marketplace, but then it warned that I was out of memory. I aborted and then downloaded and installed tree much larger appz without warnings..
But it really starts to look good! As soon as the battery holds more than 24 hours, and can be charged properly, then I will use Android instead of WM!
Great job all of you that is working on the project!!! You honestly give us plenty of hope for our not so new phones!! :):):p

Hmm... I frankly see no difference between 090909 and 120909... It still thinks 40% battery is critical and attempts to shut down, but just hangs there showing the "shutting down" sign and the data connection keeps dropping every few seconds. :/

try holding the crtl button when you try to download the file or right click on it and select save as. Also maybe try firefox if you haven't yet.
You do not need anything special to download the file though.

Nice! What phone do you use? This does not work with a Raph100 (unless the mini-usb is connected during boot).
Wanted to drop this while writing. Upon Android boot the battery was 100% (fresh out of the charger), but when booted it reported 89% not 98% or something that it should have been closer to. The indicator in spare parts, gives variable readings, the phone has been online a few hours now. The indicator "walks" from 81-83 and even lesser and higher (%). It does not matter very much, but better write of it than not too.. :o:)
